declan’s voiceclaim is austin mahone (like early austin mahone) and for that one song, mark thomas (bc selfie is iconic).
declan also got started on youtube and soundcloud, writing and producing his own music from home, with the help of his dad...who was always purchasing him new equipment and helping him get his start in the industry.
he gained a following from his youtube covers and originals, as well as from having a presence on the lip syncing app, musical.ly...lip syncing other people’s song and biting his lip and messing with his shirt bc he’s trash.
however, his music career really didn’t take off until he ended up on the netflix original series stranger things as will byers. that acting job, especially in season 2, drew him in a new crowd of fans and on the day after season 2 premiered, declan dropped “selfie” his first official original single and it went viral.
declan released his first ep called “secret” back in december and has since followed up with one new single “what about love” after his breakup with his stranger things co-star gavin hunt.
prior to stranger things season 1, declan was in the closet and used female pronouns in all of his songs...covers or otherwise...but he harbored a crush on gavin throughout season 1, even when rumors of gavin having a relationship with their other co-star, chloe langdon surfaced.
after much debate with himself and his management, declan took to social media...posting a video on youtube and tweeting to come out as gay to his fanbase, and the announcement was well recieved. the following week, he took down all of the old versions of his songs online and re-uploaded them with male pronouns.
by the time season 2 of stranger things started filming, he was out and openly pursuing gavin, who he had a feeling, may actually like him too. the two ended up dating and soon after went public with their relationship. the shippers were living, breathing, and dying...well, except the chlavin shippers. they were not receptive to the relationship at all and often left negative comments on both boys posts about the other.
the two dated for several months until a fanartist under the twitter handle declanshands...actually named zach...caught declan’s attention one day through his incredible drawings of him and his castmates alike. after liking and reposting several of zach’s pieces, he followed the boy and eventually slid into his dms and the two began talking and formed a connection leading to the inevitable breakup of gavlan.
no one knows exactly why gavin and declan broke up. some think declan cheated. others think gavin broke up with him for chloe, since the two of them have been spotted out and about...but now declan is dating zach publically, and the super slueth stans are slowly putting the pieces together.
declan is currently working on the 3rd season of stranger things and is also working on releasing his debut album.
he’s set to tour with gabrielle thomas after season 3 of stranger things wraps.
