Hiii!!! Okay so I had an idea for a Matt Sturniolo fic or honestly could be Chris, but they are a musician. They’ve been in love with their best friend for forever but have never said anything but they can’t hold it in anymore and they wrote a song about falling in love with their best friend (reader) and they just play it for her and he is nervous she won’t feel the same but she does and then they kiss and fall in love 🥰 could include smut or not! 💕
Here you go! I did it for Matt and I didn't include smut which I hope is ok. This is part one of two for sure, but I lowk might wanna make this a series if you guys like it!
Band!Matt Sturniolo x Reader
cw: yearning, mentions of crazy fans, little bit of angst but not much. I am having troubles with my writing app so if there are mistakes... no there aren't
| Part two. | 2.2k words |
You and the Sturniolo's grew up side by side. They played hockey with your twin Nathan and by default, you all became close friends. When high school tried to do what high school does, they started writing music and posting it online. Slowly but steadily, the boys all climbed to being internet sensations. Nick, the oldest, is on (waiting for poll to end). Matt, the middle triplet plays (waiting on poll) and sings. and the youngest, Chris, (waiting on poll).
You had heard them play many times. You had watched them go from terrible to world famous. Three tours in and they've never strayed away from the friendship you had known the majority of your life.
You, on the other hand, were not world famous. But you still got to be in the same world a little bit, instead of playing sold out shows around the country, you were in a classroom, making students fall in love with the art of music. Every once in a while, when the boys were working on a new album, they would come back to Boston to visit family, and even the school you teach at. Which made your class a highly desirable one. You never asked them to come, they showed up during lunch one day and they fell in love with watching kids playing their music.
And a particular triplet fell in love with the ways your eyes lit up when your students got as excited as you did. He sat back and watched his childhood friend become ten times more attractive when she was in her happy place. Gently guiding students, always patient and happy to answer any questions they threw at her. Oh he loved it. Which is why he was particularly looking forward to being home. They had been on the bus for hours. Tired, cramped, and really hungry. But all those things flew out the window when their tour bus rolled into their hometown, where tons of her students were lined up on a Saturday morning to greet them back home. Some kids had brought their guitars and cajons to play one of their biggest hits while they rolled in. Even a few kids playing it on flutes, He didn't realize it could even be played on a flute.
All the triplets decided to stop the bus, despite how tired they were and they whole band practically ran out of the tour bus following theirs, and they started singing along. A mini concert in the streets. You laughed when Nathan crushed you into a hug. He laughs along with you, singing their most popular song, that somehow they never got tired of. Eventually, the triplets all promise to visit the school on Monday and continue, but they were all visibly exhausted. "Did you guys want a ride? Mary-Lou already invited me over for dinner, so I would be headed there anyway."
"Absolutely! Thanks, Kip!" Nick grins, and starts heading to the very familiar car. They had pulled tons of pranks on you in your high school years. Painting it baby pink, which really wasn't a prank because you love pink, they had painted your dashboard and inside doors with doodles off their first album cover. They replaced your steering wheel with a modified boat one because you had argued over watching Pirates of the Caribbean or Star Wars for your monthly movie marathon. And so many more things that had long since been cleaned.
"It's a shame you didn't keep the boat parts in here, really gave the place some character." Chris jokes as he hops into the backseat. Matt slides into the passenger seat and runs his fingers over the sun-faded paint on the dashboard. Signed with all their names and stupid inside jokes.
"I love this car, but I don't love pirates enough to keep that in here. But it is hanging up in my apartment now!" you back off of the curb and start heading down the familiar road. Filling them in on everything. "Oh and Mandy from high school got divorced again." Nick laughs softly
"That's like her eighth one right?" Nate asks from right behind you. "What about that guy from high school she was always hanging on?" he asks as we take a left
"I remember seeing him and his wife with a baby. i think he went to community college after the baby was like three? Pretty sure he works at the pharmacy now. Avoid that place if you can"
"Why? Something happen?" Matt asks, leaning in slightly, he was sitting in the middle seat of the back town, so he was right by your ear as he leaned forward. You try not to notice how his eyes wander your face, probably just taking in everything after being gone so long. Yeah. That's what he's doing.
"There are posters of you guys everywhere. And there are people who have been lurking around public places like that hoping for a chance to meet you. It's basically a tourist attraction now. And not to mention Mr. White owns it now." Matt rolls his eyes.
"Let me guess, Lacy hangs around there too?" His very obsessive ex, and they briefly dated in like- middle school so it's not like they were even high school sweethearts like she tells everyone.
"Yup. Her new favorite excuse is being a makeup tester. Since they carry her very low quality brand there." My eyes flick to Matt's as we slow to a stoplight. "Oh and I think she had a whole story going in the fall about you guys breaking up the band to settle down, namely with her and Rachel." Nick gags behind us, earning a devious chuckle from Nathan
"Isn't that the girl who tells everyone I'm only gay to stop females from making me uncomfortable?" I nod, as the light changes.
"Yeah lots of stuff has changed since you guys left. Marcus and Tiffany had a baby. Oliver works as a lawyer now. Lots of people are married too." Matt sighs softly.
"But there's a world outside Boston, kip…" I shake my head looking at him through the rear view mirror.
"But everything I love is here. This is my home, I told you that years ago." Nathan frowns slightly, so do the other boys.
"Everything?" Nate questions hesitantly.
"We've been over this. I love you guys. A lot. But I can't just leave. You know how mom and dad are… and I'm really happy where I am. I have my dream job, and another side job to support myself. And our parents are here when things go wrong. And all the stuff I'm used to is here in Boston. I can't just leave that. It was easier for you because you hated high school and didn't go to college, you didn't have much tying you down. But for me? I get to see my best friends have kids. I get to watch you guys make a name for yourself like the proud sister I am. "
Matt is the first to utter back, "But you wouldn't need two jobs. You could work with us and help write music. You have all the classical training so we wouldn't be at risk of anything being leaked like before."
Nathan is next "And you could still see your friends, when we go on tour you wouldn't have to go with, you could just stay with us in the off season to help. "
Nick is the last to agree, "And I'm sure your parents wouldn't worry because they know we will take care of you."
Finally, Chris speaks up. "We don't want to pressure you, kip. But we miss you. And being able to work together even just part time would be amazing. Ultimately we support your decision but you have to see where we're coming from"
You pause. Actually thinking about leaving Boston for the first time in four years when they left the first time. "I'll think about it. How 'bout that?" the boys all seem to be content with that. And as you turn into the driveway, The triplets rush out, running like little kids to see their parents, Justin, and of course their dog Trevor. Nathan stays back. looking at you from the passenger seat.
"Missed you little sis." you scoff shoving his arm
"Don't get sappy with me."
"Hey! I did miss you!" he doesn't have time to keep arguing because you shut your door. Leaving him in the car alone, he runs to catch up with you and bear hugs you yet again before you have the chance to get inside. You laugh like a little kid again as he starts tickling you and poking at your sides, Matt watches from the porch. The happy sound that leaves you goes straight to his burning heart that aches to hear more. He doesn't bother looking away. Watching the siblings reunite, as childish as ever. But that's his home. His girl, even if she didn't know it yet.
That night, they all sat around in the living room of the triplets family home, as they had done so many times before. Your parents visited for dinner to see Nathan but left shortly after dinner for some other plans. You and Nathan were catching up while Matt was fiddling with his Guitar pick mindlessly, while also watching you shamelessly. It was no secret between the boys that he liked you. And every time they came home, Nate gave him the same talk 'You break her heart, I break your bones. Don't get her hopes up if you plan on leaving again.' and every time so far, he had listened. Except this time it was harder.
It was easy all the other times. Because he was leaving, and he would never want to ruin his chances with you by springing the confession on you in what were usually 2-week-long trips. So he waited, and waited. And there were even a few times they would come home that you had a boyfriend or someone you were talking to. And it hurt. His chest physically ached at the thought of not being the one you decided to love forever. And you were right, everyone was getting married and having families, how long before his chances were gone.
He didn't expect you to wait on him. Especially since you probably had no idea that he was madly in love with you, with no hope of ever- "Matt did you hear me?" Chris says from somewhere behind him. He turns to look and is met with him holding up a deck of Uno cards and everyone else awaiting his answer.
"Uh no, I didn't hear you. Sorry" you speak up from the couch, where somehow when he was lost in his thoughts, you had pulled on a hoodie, his hoodie. He tries really hard to not look into that detail too hard.
"Oh I just asked if you guys wanted to play Uno. If you guys are tired i can go-" Matt speaks up immediately
"No!" silence follows, you look at him with wide surprised eyes. "No, Kip. We can play." he lifts off the floor and takes the empty spot on the couch next to her. Chris gives her a look from the floor where he has a blanket and is sitting contently, Matt rolls his eyes but doesn't say anymore as the game starts. Everyone starts playing, the game goes on for a while before:
"Noooo I have 25." you pout. House rules say if you get 25 you're out so you sit back and watch. The game continues and eventually you're lulled to sleep, leaning heavily on Matt next to you. He doesn't flinch, moving so he's angled slightly to the right where you're sitting. Giving you access to lay against his chest. And still able to play. Chris gets out next and he heads upstairs to bed.
"She's delicate Matt. You know that. Don't you dare get her hopes up." Nate says. He's not unkind about it, but he's so protective of his baby sister, and there is no way he's choosing between his best friends or his sister if it came to. "I have no problem with you and her, but you've got to be ready to settle down. No more living across the country from her." he plays his card.
"Nate she's not just some girl to me. She's everything good in the world personified. She's the only person I could ever imagine a life with. It makes me sick thinking about what would happen if I hurt her. You've got to believe me, she's everything."
"Then prove it. Prove she's not some other girl to spend a week with here, and forget about as soon as we get back on the road." Nick offers, placing his last card and ending the game. "She deserves to know that. You can't expect her to just read your mind and wait. Let her know."
The other boys all retire for the night, but Matt refuses to move and risk waking you up. Instead, he has Nick turn the lights off and a lamp on as he starts writing. The best way he knows how to express his feelings is through music. He puts down everything he loves about you on paper, and starts working on melodies.
an: So im def gonna post part two tmrw or thursday, let me know if this should be a bigger series? Maybe elaborating on the other boys' love lives?? I am open to req's if someone has an idea for this series, or even a different one!
