His brows shot upwards as Allison responded then looked thoroughly embarrassed. The half-smile he’d been sporting morphed into a full-blown laugh. “Hey, it’s not a big deal. Some guys are into that.” It was hard to find the right response to an admission like that, but Max was fairly sure he’d handled it well— nothing offensive or derogatory was said either way.
"Alright," he agreed after a moment’s pause, looking over at her with a serious expression that most didn’t ever get to see on Max Lockwood’s face. "Let’s bind this shit up, then. If I have any questions I think we could probably answer them on the fly as long as we’ve got the Holy Grail of witch powers with us." Max nodded at the book in Allison’s hands. "Do you have any questions? Or is there anything I should be asking but I’m not?”
When he laughed, her embarrassment only became worse and she looked down for a bit, grinning at his comment but still trying to retain a look of seriousness and indifference. "Shut up," she chuckled and shoved him playfully, almost wishing she hadn't once she realized that it had come off a bit more flirtatious than she would have liked it to be. If there was one thing she didn't need, it was Max thinking that he had some kind of footing with her.
Her eyebrows were raised with his response, not expecting it at all. "I have to say, I didn't think you were going to be this calm about all of this I didn't give you enough credit," she said honestly, speaking only the truth. She expected him to kick her out or call the police after she demonstrated his power, but this was a welcomed surprise. "No, I don't but I think you should understand that this isn't a game. These powers aren't just a toy for your own amusement I don't really have to give you the Spider-Man speech do I?"
Revelations .. Allison & Max
Staring at the paper, Max’s eyes were drawn upward by the sound of her voice. He caught Allison staring in a way that’d he had grown used to over the last few years. Unable to help himself, Max shot a lopsided grin over at the blonde next to him. “I wasn’t really too worried about the sacrifice,” he confessed. “From a self-saving point of view, I think sacrifices require a certain virginal attribute that I personally would lack.”
Settling back as Allison began pacing, his attention returned to the actual binding spell and processes required. One hand raised to rub at the scruff he’d acquired over the past few days as he contemplated what it all meant. “This binding thing doesn’t keep us in the town, right? Cus if it does than I’m not about to join up.” He looked at her intently for a moment, trying to judge whether or not he’d know if Allison actually lied to him with her response.
Allison returned the smile he gave and slowly shook her head, not at all surprised by his comment. "Unfortunately not all of us are as lucky as you," she hinted and regretted it instantly. There were some things that she didn't need Max to know and her being a virgin was one of them. She simply smiled again after the comment, hoping to keep the mood as light at it was and masking the sense of embarrassment the splattered her face without remorse.
Clearing her throat for the second time, she was relieved once he had took it upon himself to change the subject, as he began asking questions she took a eat on the couch for a second time. Shaking her head she looked over to him, "I mean I don't think so it says that we're being bound to each other not the land or whatever," she informed with a grin before taking her hair and wrapping it up in a quick pony as she looked over to him, "so do you have any questions or something?"
There's Where You're Wrong || Katherine + Allison
Katherine’s eyebrow raised in confusion, as her anxiety raised at every passing second. At that rate things were going she thought Allison must only have three months to live or something like that. When the blonde told her the truth however, she almost wanted to laugh. Not sure how to reply back, the brunette just stared at the girl for a few moments. Allison was a witch too, and somehow knew that she was one herself. At least she knew who else was a witch in this town now. “Ali…I know.”
Allison was not at all prepared for the words that came out of Katherine's mouth. She had prepared for Katherine not believing her, Katherine taking it the wrong way, even Katherine attacking her, but she was not prepared for the fact that Katherine would already know. "I wha?" was all she was able to utter as she tried to process what she just heard.
Revelations .. Allison & Max
With the ball of light still in his palm, Max considered the list Allison gave him. Thea made sense somehow, probably because he knew her a lot better than most people. “Who the hell is— never mind,” Max muttered, the image of a redhead in his history class flashing through his thoughts. Growing up in a town as as small as Crystal Cove meant that he was familiar with all the names, even if he’d never bothered to associate with a few of them.
"Alright, so how many of us would there need to be for this Circle thing to work? Speaking of, how would we bind it?" Max waved the paper towards Allison as he couldn’t be bothered to read it all the way though just yet; that would take precedence as soon as she had left his house. He wondered what it meant for them to form a circle— if they would all have to be ‘friends’ or something because of it.
At his question, she just slowly grabbed her book and skipped another set of pages until she found the one she had been looking for, turning it over for him to see, she pointed at the spell and the detailed instructions that the pages listed. "Its really simple, actually. We all just have to say an oath with all of our individual elements present, and after that we will be bound, theres not type of human sacrifice or anything--don't worry," she promised with a small chuckle and she looked up to meet his eyes again, however this time they stared into them for a few moments before her consciousness returned to her.
Clearing her throat, the blonde shook her head and stood up, pacing the living room again and looking at the boy for any hint of emotion or thought. She knew that this was a lot to take in but she soon realized that the sooner everyone in the Circle was aware of their origin, the sooner that they could just bind the circle and not have to worry about any magic or mayhem running amuck. After a few moments of silence she spoke again, "So...what do you think?"

"Yeah, well, I’m assuming that magic follows the same learning process as everything else," Max acknowledged, twisting the ball of light in his palm. It was easier to manipulate when he’d done it once or twice before, a natural affinity for the magic combining with curiosity to amp up his attention span. "Can you tell me that you’ve never soaked an entire room trying to perfect that party trick you showed me earlier?"
Looking up as she handed him the page, Max squinted at the cramped handwriting before raising his eyebrows. The idea of people he’d associated with his whole life were experiencing powers just like he was right then. It was disorienting but made him feel a bit better, at least. “So it’s not just you and I, then? Who else is in this little club?”
Allison smiled when he mentioned her soaking the room because it brought her back to the first day she attempted to control water, she ended up soaking herself and her father. The difference between her and Max was he didn't have anyone watching her fail and getting angry when he did so. He didn't have anyone who pushed him to get it right and do it right every single time. Allison was grateful for how hard her father was on her sometimes, but most times she just wished that her best could be enough for him.
Blinking out of her thoughts, she turned to face him after his question and nodded slowly. "Remember what I said about the different families? Well there are six families that make up the Crystal Cove Circle," she informed with a nod as she point towards her book for reference, "As far as I know, Katherine O'dair, Mason O'dair, Dorothea Strange, Tate D'souza, and Ivy Rosenburg are all witches too--according to the families listed in my Book of Shadows," the blonde confirmed and waited for him to process the information.
Revelations .. Allison & Max
She was backing away from him like she was scared, and that hardly soothed Max’s fears. He stared down at his hands, which now rested, palms up, on his thighs. They seemed to be much less painful to look at now, gleaming to catch his attention when his gaze wasn’t entirely focused on them. “Well, isn’t that reassuring?” He muttered, a glimmer of the person he’d been five minutes ago appearing as his eyes rolled before fixing on Allison as she eyed his hands.
"Photowhatever… Light," Max repeated, clenching his fists slowly, experimentally, before opening them again. It sounded fucking lame as hell— but he could work with it, maybe. "Ice would’ve been cooler." With a sigh, Max bit his lip and refocused his energy on his hands. A quick flicker revealed that with enough attentiveness he could control the brightness of his hands. Weighing the ball of light that formed in his left hand, Max bounced it experimentally, lifting it close to his face to inspect just what concentrated light looked like. His gaze went right to the heart of it— and when his attention slipped and the brightness shot up again, he was temporarily blinded before squinting over at Allison. "Shit. Light."
Allison watched him and stepped a bit closer when he seemed to have some kind of control over what he was doing. He reminded her a lot of herself when she first discovered her power, incredibly confused yet desperate to master the art. Of course she was far from doing so, but the same drive she knew she had, she could see it in Max. Something she did not see in him before. She knew it wasn't a good idea when the boy began examining it closely, trying to mask her worry with a face of pure indifference.
When the light got brighter, she squinted her eyes and put her arm up to block the rays of the ball of light. "I almost knew that was going to happen," she confessed with a small smile before facing him again, feeling safe enough to go closer, "See how you lost control there? That's how its going to be like all the time once the rest of the Circle discovers their powers which is why we need to bind it". Reaching for her book, she flipped to the Binding ritual and handed it to him. Once the Circle is bound, we'll all have control over are powers and there won't be so much...stray magic".
Revelations .. Allison & Max
Max took a deep breath as his gaze flicked over to Allison before turning back to the glass. Her reassurances didn’t do much to boost his confidence; a true first for Max. Instead he drew on the focus he applied to his extracurricular activities, bringing the intensity to his eyes that few people witnessed off the football field.
He stared the glass down, feeling the energy that seemed to be radiating between the pair of them. Max bit down on his lower lip and squinted slightly, lifting his hand the same way Allison had to move the water around. Instead of watching the glass freeze over like he’d imagined— his hand flared up with in a blinding flash. Max yanked away, freeing his hand from Allison’s and attempting to shake off the light as if it’d burned him. Flexing his hand, Max glared over at the blonde beside him. “What the fuck was that?”
As Max focused on the glass, she couldn't help but simply glance over to the boy and see a face that she didn't at all recognized. It was a look of pure vulnerability and insecurity, one she thought she would never see painted upon the boy's face. She then focused on the glass again and tried to send encouragement to him without saying any words. Her hazel eyes squinted at the glass that seemed to remain the same until she was blinded by the abrupt light.
Heart pounding, she instantly stood up and backed away from him instinctively, not quite sure what had just happened. After she calmed down some and her heart rate returned to normal she shook her head at his question, "I I don't know, that's never happened to me before," she pointed out and then squinted again at the boy's hand which still seemed to be displaying tiny shimmers of the light, "I think you I don't think your elemental affinity is Cyrokinesis. I think it's Photokinesis or Light."

Max scrubbed one hand over his face, not bothering to fight this. The last psychadelics he’d consumed were atleast a month out, and there was really no reason for him not to believe what he was seeing was real as Allison seemed to move the water back into the glass. He shifted slightly to make room for her on the couch, watching the glass with slight trepidation as she gestured to it. The book caught his attention too, and Max peeked over curiously at it.
He retreated immediately as Allison turned to him, taking his hand and directing his attention towards the glass of water. The contact made his skin tingle slightly. Max fought the urge to retreat and instead stared at the water, now looking perfectly innocuous on the coffee table. “I don’t think this is going to work.” Max said slowly, still hesitant about the whole ordeal. This was what the world was coming to— he was intimidated by a glass of water.
Despite having done magic with others before, Allison was still taken off guard by the odd feeling that was a result of the physical contact she shared with Max. Of course never being close to the boy, this was just as odd for her as she expected it was for him. It was strange to see the usually over confident boy not being sure of his skills and not so sure of himself. It was a side of him that she found much more tolerable than the one he usually displayed for the world.
"Look, I'm ninety-four percent sure you can do this just focus on the temperature of the water and your energy our energy, I've got your back," she encouraged as she began to not only focus on the glass of water but the energy she shared with Max, shaking a bit at the newfound power she had once they were both focused on a single goal.
There's Where You're Wrong || Katherine + Allison
The moment Katherine saw her blonde friend, she knew something was wrong. Most people wouldn’t be able to pick up on Allison’s tells as the girl had a knack for keeping her emotions hidden, but after knowing the girl for 17 years the brunette considered herself an expert in the area. Her room on being in total order was her first clue and the sweat dripping down her forehead only confirmed her suspicion. The fact that Allison seemed this worried over something put a sinking feeling in her stomach.
Hugging her best friend back, Katherine face contoured in confusion. She honestly had no idea what the blonde was planning to tell her. After everything she’d learned, she wasn’t sure if she could handle anymore life changing confessions at the moment. Sitting down on the edge of Allison’s bed, she forced a small smile on her lips. “Well, then shoot.” Sighing, she attempted to put up a calm front for the sake of her friend. “I don’t think anything would surprise me at this point.”
Crap. Just by Katherine's face she could already tell she had been found out. There wasn't a day that went by where she hadn't wished that Katherine wasn't so good at discovering her tells and being able to decipher what was real and what was fake. Allison just slapped on the most genuine smile she could muster and ran her hand through her tight ponytail a few times. Of course she wanted to come out and just say it, this was her best friend of course, but she simply didn't know how. "Is it hot in here?" she asked dryly before standing up and pacing around the room for a bit. Come on Allison, stop being a wuss.
"Look, there's really no way to say this without sounding completely insane, so I'm just gonna say it," she began but again she faltered. She cursed her dad for leaving this responsibility to her, but she knew the repercussions he would face if he were discovered to be orchestrating this, so she faced her fellow Circle members on her own. "Katherine," she began strongly and let out another breath, "I'm a Witch. You're a Witch. We're both witches," she finally said and waited eagerly for her friend's reaction.
