They had prepped for this exact scenario for weeks now â months in fact, however now that it was actually happening, Sanem found that a lot of what theyâd talked through and mapped out had left her brain at the moment. In hindsight that was likely because, on top of faintly lingering shock, there were a few other things she needed to focus on as well, such as her breathing, monitoring the contractions â which werenât too unbearable for now. And the realization that likely by the end of the day sheâd be giving birth to their daughter slowly becoming realer by the second. Safe to say, things were working on overdrive up top. What helped to ground that all presently was hearing her wifeâs voice, nodding along, taking in a deep inhale, steadily as she could before exhaling out. Dark hues following the other woman as she worked quickly to get everything situated. â Donât forget to grab â â Not even needing to finish her sentence as Allison was already coming back over to her with her slides in hand, not wanting to step out on the cold ground with no shoes, in spite of her socks being a tad wet, not that she could be bothered to care. Slipping them on, in a flash, so to speak, they were both into the car and off to the hospital.
Doing her best to keep her breathing consistent, turning her head to the side as the blonde was on the phone with their doctor, asking in between. â Sheâs gonna be there right ? â While she was positive the other staff in the maternity ward were more than capable of caring for her and the baby otherwise â since her OB had been with them throughout this whole pregnancy, Sanem felt slightly more confident in knowing she would be at the helm. One hand rested on her belly, while the other kept a firm grip within Alliâs as another contraction rippled through, as if there was a sudden queue for them to start cranking it up, still nothing she couldnât handle though, at least thatâs what she was telling herself internally while letting out a groan. â Iâm sure youâre going as fast as you can aĆkım⊠but is there any way we can put the petal to metal some more, â Hint of a chuckle faded into her words, luckily the downtown area wasnât incredibly far from their home and soon enough were at the entrance to the hospital. Brows raising some when she heard her wife all but shout at the nurses to help wheel her in, who scrambled quickly thereafter to get the dancer out of the car and inside. It would seem they didnât have only her potential labor induced wrath to worry about.Â
Sanem was admitted in no time, wheeled up to the room and made to change out of her clothes into a hospital gown, before a couple nurses were quick to start checking her vitals, as well as securing a doppler belt around her abdomen to monitor the babyâs heartrate. One also began asking questions on how she was feeling and about her contractions, while giving an initial, physical once over, that included checking just how far along she was dilated. Certainly nowhere close to the delivery stage yet, but already just about into active labor. When it came to pain meds, for the time being she opted not to have any, though made it a point that may very well change sometime soon, knowing they were gonna be periodically in and out of the room anyhow. Still adamant though on not wanting the epidural. Shifting to get as comfortable as was possible in the bed, her vision landed on the lawyer, whoâd had all the bags and everything settled, now close to her side. Reaching an arm out to take her hand, this time itâd been more out of the physical solace of having her partner there than needing to squeeze it. â Wouldnât be our daughter if she didnât decide to make an early entrance huh. â A small pause, nibbling on her bottom lip some. â I can do this right ? I mean â I know I can but.. this is really happening.. sheâs coming, today. â
Asserting herself in the name of making sure Sanem was well cared for, that was second nature for Allison. But the irrational fear of whether or not the staff would move fast enough to escort a very labor-ridden Sanem into the hospital before she simply gave birth to their daughter in the car, was very poignant and at the forefront. She whispered apologies to Sanem in between making it known that they were not be undermined, that her wife needed immediately assistance and comfort and eventually when the dust had settled, they were situated in the room that would serve as their quarters for the next couple of days. Whether their daughter came today or even tomorrow if she had Sanemâs stubborn flair, Allison settled the overnight bag, one that she had packed time and time again and stopped unpacking things every time a new nurse came in.Â
Tests were run, vitals were taken, the doppler belt was situated and all Allison could focus on was the babyâs heartbeat and just how real everything had suddenly become. Not that the entirety of the pregnancy hadnât been real, but knowing in what could be moments or hours, soon a tiny human would be out in the world for her to hold, to love, to call hers. Gently taking a seat besides Sanem, she offered her hand and had to laugh at her unwillingness to take any of the comfort drugs, including the epidural. Though she hadnât been nearly as a dilated as she would need to be in order to start pushing, her main objective as of now was to make sure she was comfortable. âIt wouldnât be, though now that weâre here I canât help but wonder if sheâll decide to actively stall,â Allison teased, though hoped it wasnât the case. âIf it hurts too much, you donât have to be brave.â Allison began. âThisâll be extremely taxing on your body.â And that worried her, but she knew her wife is nothing else was a force to be reckoned with.Â
When Sanem needed cups of ice, Allison hesitated to bring her some, noting something sheâd read in eastern medicine how much worse it would make her cramps. âCan I offer you anything else? Maybe room temperature water instead?â Allison spoke softly, before she found herself pacing beside Sanem who was told she could try to walk around to further induce labor. She didnât mind being the crutch for her, that was her role after all, wasnât it? But soon enough, one grip on her arm felt a little too tight and she found herself asking, âWhat can I do? Should I grab the nurse again?â Once they were back in the room, she gently pushed back Sanemâs hair, kissing her knuckles as another check was being done and that's when theyâd let the wives know she was nearly at 10cm. It was almost time to push.Â
