To my Bay Area friends! Anyone you know in need of a roommate or tenant starting this summer? I'm headed to the Bay (to stay!!) in June. I would be so grateful for any leads, advice, and ears you can keep out for me 💞 http://ift.tt/2ndG1ln

I stepped RIGHT OUT of my design bubble this week, and it felt 🌟💫✨💥!! Lawyers, academics, data scientists, and activists taught me the nerdy delights of redistricting reform efforts that are happening in NC and across the country. This is a late new year's resolution to make this a REGULAR THING. 🇺🇸 - #FairMaps @commoncausenc http://ift.tt/2lG0REW
Design Diary 03: I realized that by only reflecting on stand-alone projects I'm overlooking what's been the most formative part of my education, my TEACHERS. So into this #pressdesigndiary I'm sprinkling lessons learned from some of my professors, starting with Helen Armstrong-- who taught me the value of being a well-rounded designer. Of treating my discipline not as a never-ending depth of specialization, but as a broad lens with which to explore and specialize in other fields: like the humanities, academic writing, and education. Seeing Helen lead and teach from this perspective has informed how I've started defining my own design identity: by my passion for a sector of work (like education and the public sector) rather than solely by a tight discipline (like interaction design). Thanks Helen 💕 http://ift.tt/2lu6HZU
Was proud to be repping with moms, retirees, city council members, and other folks today, lobbying for nonpartisan redistricting reform. It's a room full of white people, but at least it's a room full of white people using their privilege and energy to pressure their elected officials to restore democracy in NC. #fairmapsday http://ift.tt/2mLZzt1

I think I made a goat pretty happy today! Or I just got played. 🤔 http://ift.tt/2kNpILC
Before ^this^ school project (to build a self-supporting cardboard structure) making things was always a method I used for representing an idea, after it had been conceived and become fully formed in my head. It was never a method I used for finding and forming ideas. But in order to build an all-cardboard ceiling, that cycle of iterating, testing, and revising couldn't take place inside my head, it had to be tangible. This lesson-- make to learn, make to think --is a reminder to think outside of my head. It curbs my philosophizing instinct to get too heady, and gets my ideas out of the clouds. #pressdesigndiary - Thanks professor @rainrainqueen for these lessons, and classmates @kclee3, @sarahmcousins, and Monica Ampolini for the quality collaboration. Thank you friends for holding me accountable to continuing this project!! I got caught up in seeking perfection, and forgot to go and MAKE. Just learned the above lesson twice...
V-day got artsy today. Stickered with love by classmates Lisa Wong and Erica Holmsen <3
"The American republic's symbols are OUR symbols. Cherish and brandish them." Arms up with the motto of the United States: out of many, one. (Paraphrased David Frum there) http://ift.tt/2khUcQH
I spent today down in the letter press room, bringing some self-reflective love to my #handmadevalentineexchange cards! And used it as an excuse to practice my guilty pleasure career dream of being a hand model.. 🙈 http://ift.tt/2kPxdk4
I’m exploring the issue of gerrymandering for my interaction design capstone project. I have no idea where it will lead but I’m starting with some basic research– seeing how alterations in NC voting district boundaries in 2002 and (especially) 2012 affected the competitiveness of those elections.
Thanks for capturing my peak smug today @_dipali_ ✌🏽️ http://ift.tt/2khH2as

Designers certainly don't need more ambiguous job titles to choose from, but this one feels essential, so I'm going to claim it. I'm a citizen designer. Join me 🇺🇸 http://ift.tt/2kesLe7
Design diary 01 : I used to think that “design,” as a problem-solving process, was so powerful because it was universal. That by following its organized steps my work could transcend specific cultures and contexts. Now, I believe the exact opposite is true: the process is powerful because it refuses to eclipse such things. It acutely focuses your attention on the systems, embedded in a culture and context, that create problems. And it is instead dangerously naive, and ethnocentric, to try to step over them. (My goal is to make this #pressdesigndiary a weekly thing. So see you next Friday!) – Graphic Design Theory textbook http://ift.tt/2kcdCu1
