I need some advice, if you find the time. I'm a girl who loves RPing as boys just because my better characters tend to be boys, but it's gotten really annoying with female characters actually /changing/ their personality traits just so they can 'have a chance' with my character. Something like, "She could feel her walls break down as she stared into his eyes". They always try to make me feel bad for not shipping with them, and I don't know what to do, this whole thing is making RPing a chore.
(2/2) And I'm starting to think that it has to do with my choice of FC because I usually have either Somerhalder or Pettyfer, and I even tried making Pettyfer the shy, awkwardly unsocial guy but every single girl keeps flirting with him and changing traits just so he'll like them and it's annoying because I can't develop my character if no one else is being true to theirs. Rant to me all you want, dear.
I have a few suggestions you may want to try as I have definitely dealt with the same thing before.
When you're para-ing and the other person says that utterly annoying line 'She could feel her walls break down as she stared into his eyes' reply with something that makes it clear your character is not interested. I've said things like 'The way she was looking at him made him wonder if she'd eaten that day because she looked about ready to maul him.' or the incredibly blatant 'She was nice company, but he couldn't help wonder why she thought he was actually interested in her.' Your character can make it very clear that he is not interested and the other roleplayer shouldn't take offense. They aren't getting with Somerhalder or Pettyfer vicariously through their character.
I would also consider changing the faceclaims you usually use which sucks because everyone has their favorites for a reason, but going with more underused male faceclaims can help deter the Attack of the Female Fandom. My usual male faceclaims are Jason Dohring, Chad Michael Murray, Daniel Gillies, and Ryan Phillipe. Yes, they are all attractive, but none of them are a Salvatore or a Winchester [though I do love using Jensen as a faceclaim]. Generally the faces from larger fandoms will get the most rabid attacking from roleplayers who can't separate mun and muse.
In these situations, I wouldn't knock just being incredibly blunt while still staying positive. 'I am not interested in shipping my character with anyone, but I have some great ideas for plots if anyone is interested' could be a good thing to throw in the ooc blog. When people start to get annoying and stopping you from developing your own character, you have the right to tell them they need to stop.
Oh, and shy male characters are like crack to girls who want to open them up. The better route is a douchy douche douche. Not the 'bad guy,' but just a fucking douche. Through that character, you can tell other people just how it is because he has no filter. 'Do you throw yourself at every guy that comes through town or what because with those looks I can't imagine it actually working out for you past a one night stand' can not be responded to with some bullshit about how she felt the walls fall down staring into his eyes. That character is just going to hate him and it'd be so weird if the roleplayer was that obsessed with the faceclaim to even try to work in their character falling for the guy that insults everyone.
