So far, Halloweentown, the Charlie Brown Halloween movie, The Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice and some other movies. And of course, the option of watching horror movies with someone else. That doesn’t count as a rec, but that’s obviously a good advice.

I can feel that. I don’t mind the slashers and the gory stuff, but sometimes if the movie has paranormal shit in it and I’m home alone– I can’t fuck with that. A person I can fight off, but a ghost? What the fuck am I going to do? Call the Ghostbusters? 

In a perfect world they’d be real, but this is the real world and the Ghostbusters don’t exist, or at least I’m not aware if that’s a real thing. I wish I knew how to fight a ghost, that would be scary and amazing at the same tiem... but only if I’m a sidekick to someone. I’m not dealing with those myself, nope.

What about Halloweentown? Those were total classics whenever I was younger. I’m a fan of the classic horror movies like Scream and Halloween, but I don’t know if you want to hang out by yourself watching things like that.

I’ve watched those when I was younger so maybe it’s time to rewatch Halloweentown this year. I’m a scaredy cat so even if I really wanted to watch Scream, I don’t really want to be by myself if I’m watching those. The only way I could watch them is if someone is near me all the time.

If you haven’t watched them and don’t mind binge-watching 20 minutes long episodes, I recommend you Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place. If you’ve watched those already, I’d suggest a movie, but I don’t know which genre are you into. Are you into rom-coms?

Exactly, why watch stuff that will probably give you something to have nightmares about when you can watch something you can actually enjoy without any regrets? We just want to watch something and enjoy it without being all scared.

Hocus Pocus is the shit, it’s one of the only non horror Halloween movies that I like watching, it’s hilarious. I don’t even mind all that singing and dancing. Probably can’t help you there, I’m a big fan of those scary movies. Grab some friends and watch it together or something - might be less scary with people around you.

Yeah, I’m starting to think that’s a good idea. I need people to hide behind them or bury my head in their arm or chest whenever the worst parts come out. I’m a chicken, Ryan, and the worst part is that I like horror in books but not on movies.

Right???? Comedy, action, like I’d even understand people watching a stupid drama for fun - bc you know, nerds. But horror movies just for the heck of it??? You know what they should do, star in the Centipede movies. Like someone told me about the overarching plot and I deleted them off my facebook.

Absolutely, we always got to decorate the front of the house with spider webs and pumpkins, it was all very fun. – I don’t think that makes you a crazy person, the horror genre isn’t for everyone. I am only barely tolerant of those scary movies myself. We could always get together to watch one of the scarier ones, maybe it won’t be so terrifying when watched with company.

That’s the best part of Halloween and nobody can convince me otherwise -- it’s all fun and everything. Making some Halloween-themed crafts is also great, but only when you have the time to do it yourself. You know what you be great? Getting a group of people together to watch one of those so whenever I’m scared I can hide behind someone. That’s the only way I can agree to watch the scariest ones.

Beetlejuice is a pretty classic Halloween movie without being very horror-y. If you are into Paranorman, you might like The Corpse Bride as well. But Beetlejuice is a good start. If you want a horror movie that is only “fairly” scary, The Poltergeist is a good classic.

From all the movies you just mentioned I’ve only watched The Corpse Bride, and honestly, that’s a favorite, how could I forget about that one? I’ll start with Beetlejuice and I’ll let you know what I think, okay? I’m not that well versed in the genre, as you can tell.

Of course. Halloween wouldn’t be the same without a few of his short stories. A few are admittedly re-reads, like Poe and Clive Barker, but I found a good mix of anything from dark fantasy to old school ghost stories. The supernatural aspect of it feels vital for Halloween.
