yeah, new blog time!
and you know something? they were the only friends i ever had.
The Phantom of the Opera is so funny if you divorce it from the gothic opera house atmosphere like imagine if there was just some guy living underneath your local DMV and everyone KNOWS he lives down there and he’s demanding $20k a month to stop him from going up there and harassing the clerks
"If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me the excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die."

Redraw of That One Picture of Twelfth Night with Anne Hathaway,, added some blood for extra angst 🕺It's the best pic for sad OT3's and Love Triangles imo.
One of the things I love most about the novel and one of the best examples of how clever a writer Leroux is is the way Christine’s character is written. We’re expressly told that this is a girl who is grieving, who tries to kill herself, who is going through an extremely traumatic time in her life, yet whenever we see Christine and her interactions with others (with the exception of her conversations with Raoul at the masked ball and on the roof when she’s detailing to him the experiences she’s been through with Erik) she’s shown to be constantly laughing and playful, making fun of Raoul for not liking the cold, teasing him for being scared of heights, laughing when she first meets him again, suggesting playing engaged like it’s a game. All in all we’re shown a character acting very different to what the text is telling us about them which would normally be the mark of a bad writer. However, in the first few chapters of the novel Leroux writes the passage, “None will ever be a true Parisian who has not learned to wear a mask of gaiety over his sorrows and one of sadness, boredom, or indifference over his inward joy...In Paris, our lives are one masked ball” and this is exactly how Christine behaves the entirety of the novel, acting playful to cover up the horrid circumstances of her life and idk it’s just a really clear instance of clever writing and I love it
mood
Think of Me but you’re the Phantom of the Opera wandering around the subterranean passageways, listening to your angel of music. Best with headphones.
Daroga: [to Erik] You'll meet someone. Someone very special. Someone who won't press charges.

thank u @flora-gray for this original blocking note
If you weren’t aware, years ago, I purchased the Phantom’s original score of Don Juan Triumphant on eBay, which included his hand-written blocking notes. In order to preserve this important piece of history, I have been transcribing these real, totally not made-up, and unsurprisingly VERY horny notations. 😌
I so grateful to you for making these important literary contributions.
lots of opinions and hot takes about gerard butler and emmy rossums performances in 2004 phantom of the opera but barely any appreciation for patrick wilsons portrayal of the dumbest man in the world
The Daroga’s infinite patience is the ninth wonder of the world. (x)
She's a tiny Prima Donna and everyone should give her the proper respect.
