Had my first appointment appointment with Dr Sarah Kennedy (private via yourgp) it was a cancellation appointment so it was 2.5 weeks sooner than my original was scheduled for. She was nice and asked how I wanted to be referred to etc, basically just went through the report Dr Myskow had written and asked the same sort of questions. She did ask a few slightly more prying questions like about relationships but nothing embarrassing or too personal. It lasted an hour and she basically just said I should be on hormones and hopefully that gets sorted as soon as possible. My appointment with Dr Myskow is in just over a month so providing my blood test results are fine I’ll be starting hormones at that appointment finally. I paid in cash (£250). By the time I’ve had my next appointment I’ll have paid probably 750 to start HRT and the process will have taken about 9 weeks total from first appointment to hormones, would’ve been 6 if Dr Myskow hadn’t been on annual leave however. So worth it and a lot less expensive than I expected. If anybody else is looking into the price keep in mind that’s with blood tests and prescribing from my GP. Would absolutely recommend going private if you can do it financially.

I had my first private appointment with YourGP in Edinburgh and it really couldn’t have gone better. The building itself is nice as are receptionists. Dr Myskow was super nice and not gate keepery at all despite what I’d read (was a bit worried about that). Saying that I am out to everyone in my life minus my extended family, had legally changed my name and spoken to my GP about shared care. Though there were definitely things I hadn’t done like the aforementioned come out to most of my family, change my name legally at a lot of places, but she was fine about all of that which was great because after reading other experiences I was a bit scared of this. She asked fairly standard questions, how did I realise I was trans, describe the feelings, who had i told, how long had i presented the way i do etc. There were no awkward questions at all and it wasn’t difficult or anything like that. She told me that I’m a pretty standard case and that it would seem to her that I have gender dysphoria. She told me to make an appointment with her in 6 weeks, but she’s on annual leave and then i’m on holiday the next week so the next appointment is in 9 weeks exactly and she says if all is good with my blood tests i’ll be starting T then. Kind of gutted about my holiday interfering but so thankful to finally have a date to look forward to. For anybody else that sees this and considers doing to her, absolutely do it without a doubt.

Approached my GP to come out and ask about a shared care agreement before my private appointment, which is less than a fortnite away. GP was extremely nice and supportive about me being Trans (called it empowering lol). She had no problem entering into a shared care agreement, which means I’m gonna save a TON because I won’t have to pay for bloods/prescriptions. Shocked at how easy it was but so relieved!

Transition Blog

Making this blog so I can look back at my ‘journey’ in the future. UK Trans guy here. Pre-everything, out to friends and close family members. NHS Waiting lists are a killer so opting to go private for hormones and maybe top surgery if $ allows it. Seeing Dr Lyndsey Myskow in Edinburgh a week into May. It’s a waiting game now.
