☆ ˖ 𓄹 “ The two of us aren't so different. My whole life, I've desired affection from others... a heart that lets nothing in... will become empty before you realize it. ”
i am ashamed at the amount i enjoyed this fuck ass anime.
LET’S GO AHEAD AND ACKNOWLEDGE THE MASSIVE ELEPHANT. LIKE ABSOLUTELY GINORMOUS.
the step sister thing — purely introduced because they wanted to fulfill some strange fetish, obviously. they didn’t know each other, had a meet cute, and then find out they’re suddenly related.
the story could have functioned the exact same without that element. they could’ve been roommates at a boarding school, old friends forced to live together because of xyz situation, etc.
so yes, it is bad, and weird, and all that. (and then the non-consent stuff is a whole other yikes… few times i almost had to turn off the show and stop watching.)
with all that aside, and acknowledged that all that is bad, let’s get into a review of what i actually liked.
☆ ˖ 𓄹 “ Even if everyone else is against you... I will always be your ally. ”
i initially went into this because i wanted to watch an anime that featured a gyaru character (which, yuzu filled that itch! she’s very cute imo). when i read the description, i was like, surely it can’t be THAT bad, and if it is, maybe it’ll be a good hate watch.
so i watched it.
and fuck. i actually enjoyed it.
aside from what was already mentioned, i have my gripes with the show introducing younger characters who serve as sibling-adjacent to the main girls, who then thirst over their “older sister”.
Obviously, this is what Yuzu does, but it felt even worse — like these girls had known their respective “older sister” since childhood, not just one random day in their teenage years.
Plus I REALLY dislike how over-sexualized they made matsuri. she as a whole — i can’t even.
☆ ˖ 𓄹 “ when I think about you... my chest tightens, and it hurts so much. I didn't know that liking someone could be this painful. ”
but despite this, i kept watching. it was almost addictive, each episode leading on a cliffhanger as we took baby steps towards the couple getting together.
every episode i found myself caring for yuzu and mei more. i gasped when it was revealed that yuzu’s father had passed — it made me understand her desire to help mei reconcile with her father. every episode was a step closer to unraveling the mysteries behind each character and i was hooked.
also, loved harumi. the only non-freak in this freaked out bunch.
if you get triggered by sexual assault, do NOT WATCH THIS!! DON’T DO IT!!!
but if you can ignore some FUCKING QUESTIONABLE choices made by the creators of the show, i think there’s an intriguing story at the base of this. it’s just buried by LAYERS of bullshit.
woke up this morning, fucked my bf and was having such a good time and then all of the sudden my brain just decided nope! had a panic attack, freaked out, cried on him, having flashbacks to my evil ex for no reason bc my bf was so sweet and kind and took care of me, had to take an hour to recoop but he had to leave for work. but his puppy sat with me so it was ok :((
like holy fuck i was sixteen when will this stop plaguing me. so now i have to talk to my therapist about that
go to leave, feeling better, realized i forgot the new succulent he got me the other day i was really excited about. great. great!!! great.
get home, go to get the magic eraser i ordered to clean up the mess i made with hair dye, it says it was delivered to the lockers of my apartment, i go to the lockers, nothing there, office where they could help me is closed.
my room is a mess, it’s hot, my eyebrows look like shit, my candle is burning wrong, i’m hungry but not hungry. fuck. fuck. fuck! i want to start today over.
love live! school idol project -- season one mini review (minor spoilers)
rating: ★★★☆☆
☆ ˖ 𓄹 " Nico Nico Nii! "
I hate Nico.
Ok, let's not start off like that. This show is actually really cute. I started watching it because I wanted something to fill the gaping hole left behind by finishing my beloved K-On!
I actually started this show in 2024, and then lost access to Crunchyroll briefly. Funny how when you break up with someone their best friends kick you off their Crunchyroll account.
But we are so back, we are paying for our own account, and we are finishing up old shows that we did not have a chance to. LL!SIP was the first on my list, and I'm really glad I got around to it!
☆ ˖ 𓄹 " Harasho! "
This show is just really cute, to put it simply. It's very cozy, and though it's not quite like K-On!, it does fill that itch.
When I describe this genre of anime to my friends, I usually say it's "cute girls doing xyz".
But, with that sadly comes the gooner bait. This one I would say is a little worse than K-On, or about the same level. It at least does not have anything like the Christmas episode so far.... shivers.
☆ ˖ 𓄹 " Nya! "
If you don't know what Love Live! is, it's a multimedia series spanning multiple games, anime, and real life productions. School Idol Project is the first anime in the series, focusing on a group of nine girls forming a school idol group to help bring attention to their school in the hopes that it won't close down. Together, they form Muse, working towards both that goal and the ultimate goal of performing at Love Live!, a school idol competition.
Ultimately, (spoilers), the first season ends with the girls unable to achieve the goal of attending Love Live!, as they end up overworking themselves and almost losing three members due to miscommunication. Who would've guessed.
☆ ˖ 𓄹 " Becoming an idol is out of the question! "
I really was surprised they did a more dramatic storyline like that, as I don't remember anything like that in K-On! I was really stressed for a second that we were going to lose my favorite character, Kotori.
Despite all the cuteness and cozy vibes, there were some weird, fanservice-y sexual undertones that I was NOT a fan of, especially considering that these girls are what, juniors or seniors? (Why is Nozomi groping people ALL. THE. TIME!)
I love a good beach episode as well, but with any anime like this, it has certain... elements it focuses a little too heavy on that I would rather it not.
Despite all of this, I really enjoyed this first season and am excited to continue the series.
