“There’s nothing like summer in the city”
He laughed. Honestly, what else could he do when his boyfriend was being so completely sarcastic. His boyfriend who was the human embodiment of a puppy – who was so happy at the slightest thing. But, the same boyfriend who couldn’t stand New York’s humidity because it made his hair frizz. Which, to be far, he thought was absolutely adorable. And it saved him from looking too much like Blaine. So, the frizzier the better, there. “It’s a good thing we switched to our Summer costumes early, huh?” He asked, glasz eyes flickering to his boyfriend. The couple of hours spent sewing on last minute details into Phalanx’s Summer costume was worth it. Worth it because it looked so good on him. God, did it look good. And – oh. He was staring. And Phalanx was staring back at him now. “You’re hair’s cute, if that’s what you’re worried about.” He reminded, leaning in to press a quick kiss to the other man’s lips. “Now can we please get that radio working?”
“Don’t say that,” the Ghost says, quiet and almost lost in the cold New York air. The New York City that was bustling with life down below, even so late into the night. And, even though the two super heroes were picking themselves up after a run in with two very incompetent but trigger-happy robbers … New York was alive. As alive as Phalanx – Blaine – always should be. “You know how I feel about that.” He added, not looking at his boyfriend. He couldn’t. Phalanx knew very well that this wasn’t the life that he wanted for him. That the Ghost has tried to keep him away. That he didn’t want him to die. Not because he made the same choice. He just – he couldn’t live with that. He wouldn’t be able to life with himself if Phalanx died on his watch. He just couldn’t. “You don’t have to die because of me. You know that – you … you already did so much.”
And … if patching up your boyfriend’s arm from a bullet that just flew passed a too late shield wasn’t enough to hurt his heart, hearing Phalanx say it would be worth it was even worse. But, his heartbreaking expression now was definitely the cherry on top – for lack of a better word. And even though he was hissing through his teeth as the Ghost disinfected the scratch he was still being so strong. “You’ve done so much. You’ve done so well. My very brave soldier.”

“Oh, sure.” The brunet said, rolling his eyes as he listened to his boyfriend and roommate talk. “Let me remind you that this whole ‘superhero civil rights warrior’ thing is completely ridiculous, shall I? No matter which side you’re on.” And, right on queue, this got Rachel worked up again. Just enough that Kurt could sit back and listen to the two – rolling his eyes and making noises of feigned displeasure as he listened. As much as he knew he needed to put effort forward into keeping up his secret identity … they delighted and distracted him. Both of them. His brother’s girlfriend turned Kurt’s roommate and occasional best friend … and Blaine. The man who’d literally fell into his life and … he couldn’t be happier.
“I’m just saying, Rachel, it really doesn’t matter. It’s just some dumb fad that’ll fade in a few years. Like wearing moccasin slippers as real shoes. No one’ll even know it’s a thing – as it should be. The sooner we all stop caring the better.” He added, before chancing a glance at his boyfriend who was just amused to be having this conversation. But was it because this was his idol, the Ghost, having this conversation with him or because it was Kurt? Either way he wasn’t too sure he’d be happy with the answer …
