god it’s just like. otto was the reason everything between rhaenyra and alicent went sour. he was responsible for betrothing alicent to viserys, he continued to drive the wedge between them their entire adulthood, told alicent she’d have to choose between rhaenyra and her children, planted that seed of resentment and distrust that festered and twisted and decomposed until the love they still have for each other was almost snuffed out completely. and then rhaenyra kills him, and it’s the first person she’s ever killed, a man she’s known all her life and who at one time might have even held some affection for. she kills him and he is alicent’s father as well as the man responsible for taking alicent from her. and then she takes her throne, leaving behind a trail of his blood and locks eyes with alicent over her father’s body. this is the best show in the world

i think the single best moment in the episode is just the split second of tessarion knocking over the sept candles that we have seen alicent pray over so many times. the same candles she tells us she prayed over when her mother died. the same candles that she showed rhaenyra how to pray over to help her process her grief when aemma died and they were 14. the same candles she lit and prayed over for lucerys when she wasnt supposed to care that he was dead. because shes a hightower and her faith is one of the only things that has ever been hers. and then she tells us she sent her only auburn-headed son away so that he could stay a hightower too and we watch as his dragon who loves him dearly tramples over those sept candles in her haste to burn and devour the corpse of an innocent man who her beloved rider just murdered after protesting in a way that sounded just like his targaryen father because he has to prove to his hightower patriarch that he is fit to be a king because he's not just a hightower he's a targaryen he's a hightower he's a targaryen does it even matter because most importantly if he is to rule he must betray himself and do things he once thought unthinkable. just like mama said last episode. poetry
