"Now, I gotta get in their face. I'm proud to be a woman. I'm proud to be a black woman, and I'm proud to be gay."
- Wanda Sykes, when asked about Prop 8
Doris Murphy: What are you lookin' at?
Dottie Hinson: Nothing.
Doris Murphy: That's right, nothin'.

This is a wonderful capture of the homosexuality debate in this country. Couldn't have said it better myself!

how very interesting!
From a fan. Amen, Jon.
Life is about choices. But I've never chosen not to be gay. Let that sink in.
“It is well known that I have gone through a good bit of reflection on this issue. But listening to the stories of so many people that I know and care about has strengthened my belief that marriage is a fundamental right for everyone. Loving couples, regardless of their sexual orientation, should have the right to marry whomever they want.”
Kasim Reed, mayor of Atlanta, voices his support for marriage equality. More. (via gaywrites)
Thank you Mayor Reed.
It takes no compromise to give people their rights...It takes no political deal to give people freedom.
-Harvey Milk
I got this in an email from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
At the beginning of the cold war, the federal government secretly looked into its employees' sexual orientation. Then in December, 1950, a Senate report called "Employment of Homosexuals and Other Sex Perverts in Government" was given to members of Congress. This report claimed that since "homosexuality is a mental illness," homosexuals "constitute security risks" to the country. This purging became known as the "lavender scare," and close to 5,000 gay men and women were discharged from the military and 500 lost their government jobs.

Hello, Cruel Word: 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks, and Other Outlaws by Kate Bornstein
“I wrote this book to help you stay alive because I think the world needs more kind people in it, no matter who or what they are, or do. The world is healthier because of its outsiders and outlaws and freaks and queers and sinners. I fall neatly into all of those categories, so it’s no big deal to me if you do or don’t. This may be a scary time for you, and if that’s so, I hope that I can help you find your courage again.”
The suicide rate is out of hand. Be comforted in knowing that YOU accept who you are, even if a small group of small minded people do not.
A quote from the editor, Candace Chellew-Hodge:
To defend their assertion that God condemns homosexuals, people always use small passages from the Bible to prove their point. Using the Bible in this manner is destructive. Instead of "exegesis" which involves examining the history of scripture to find out what it means and how it applies to us, "eisegesis" approaches scripture with a preconceived idea of what you will find there. It is abuse of scripture.
Verywell said.
