CHARACTER ARC SUMMARY: Sarab Zaman is a homo sapiens superior mutant and a Muslim. In fifth grade, Sarab discovered her mutant powers after she watched a spaceship launch, a spaceship that her father (an engineer for Stark Industries) worked on. She and her family were given a special tour behind the scenes afterwards. In the laboratory, she touched an ancient artifact that triggered her X-Gene, which gave her the abilities of spacial manipulation, illusion creation, and enhanced empathy. She felt that something inside her had changed, but she ignored it and thought that she was just tired.
She discovered her powers a few days later when she was being bullied and her powers were triggered to create a wall of stars that protected her from them. Her powers disoriented the bullies and they were unable to identify her, allowing her to escape and keep her mutant abilities a secret. No one had seen who did it and people were still looking for the suspect, so she lived in constant fear. Not even her own family knew about her powers. She could not put them in danger. She refused.
Sarab hid her powers from her mother, father, and younger brother. During her freshman year of high school, Sarab's brother discovered that she had powers and confronted her privately. She did not want him to know for fear of endangering him, but he insisted that she did not have to go it alone and became her sidekick.
PERSONALITY AND CHARACTER ANALYSIS: Sarab Zaman is a creative, loyal, and emotional individual. Despite sometimes wearing her heart on her sleeve, she is often stoic and difficult to read, which she occasionally uses to her advantage, especially during a physical fight. Though she has been trained to have control over her body and mind, her emotions sometimes get the best of her. This typically leads to her being taken advantage of, allowing herself to be dragged into situations that she is not meant to be involved in, leaving herself vulnerable in dire situations, or the escalation of conflict on her part. Her strong use of words and occasional sass are helpful sometimes, but most of the time they get her into trouble. She has a tendency to be gullible due to her intense emotions and sometimes sheltered life, but she is getting better at protecting herself and learning how to read people better.
She is very protective of people whom she cares about and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. Though she can sometimes be closed off, she is usually open to new relationships, wants to help people, and has a generally happy demeanor. Her core personality traits are her determination, her loyalty to her loved ones, and her creativity. Though Sarab is still learning how to balance her mind and emotions, she is very intelligent and well-read. Her quick-thinking and keen senses serve as helpful traits in many situations. Though she is overly emotional, stubborn, and often indecisive, she is also clever, learns from her mistakes, and has strong leadership skills. She is a loyal friend with a gift for words and prose. She is also a dreamer and can sometimes find herself too caught up in fiction while letting her real life get out of hand.
Her powers sometimes make it difficult for her to control herself, but she is getting much better at dealing with that and has a well-balanced life. Sarab is slightly unstable after what she has been through and has trust issues after being deceived many times, but her heart and faith in humanity are still strong. She goes by and is widely known as Almajara.
