Q: Gosh, another rec blog, why?
Hi, welcome to my humble blog. The short explanation for this is that I read too much fanfic and I: (a) I'd like to share my reviews with the word, since there are stories that I love way too much and I want to rant about them; (b) I love review blogs; (c) I want to organize the fics that I love in a way that is better than my ao3 bookmark page. Also, I feel into BTS rabbit hole in February 2018, and suddenly being a lurker and commenting on stories I like is not enough anymore.
That said, English is not my first language and this is mostly for me to have fun, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes.
Q: What are we going to see here then?
Mostly, stories that I love with me trying to convince you to go read them. I will be kinda copying daily-stucky-recs.tumblr.com style of reccing, with topics such as "is this fic for me?" and a few of the highlights and maybe warnings in review form. I will be adding tags as I use them, and the future I will organize them in a post. I ramble a lot, and my recs may or may not make sense, you will see. Eventually, I want to make themed rec lists and some features like "if you liked this story, you will probably like: .....". I will also make an effort to try to rec stories that are not every well known despite being excellent - those deserve all the love, people <3.
I love all the pairings, seriously. And trios. And quartets. And OT7. As long as the story is good, that there is no graphic torture and that most of the characters are not truly evil most of the times, I will read it. ALSO, I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHO TOPS OR BOTTOMS WHO. This is not something that I will point out about a fic unless it's a scene that is very touching or hot - so, there will be no tags referring to who bottoms or tops each other. Really, I just enjoy reading them interacting and being friends with other, so the dynamic doesn't have to be necessarily sexual.
I understand that not everybody know all aspects of Korean culture (I don't know a lot, that's for sure), but I usually do not like stories in which this aspect of the boy's identity are overly erased. I like to read stories in which there was a minimal research effort in this aspect.
WIPS are also not usually recced.
I have a few pet peeves, sure, but they are not really related to pairings. I usually don't like overly OOC characterizations (yeah yeah, I know that OOC is not a very good definition of characterization and a very subjective perception), I don't usually like when one of the boys are the trashed (because I love all of them), and I will add more general dislikes here as I see fit. ALSO, I usually don't read unhappy endings, but if the story is good, why not. THAT SAID, if I dislike more than like a story, I won't be posting it here or making bad comments about it. If there's something "negative" that I have to say about a work I like, it will be on the lines of: "if you don't like a lot of romance, maybe this is not for you" / "if you are not into Jimin/OC, maybe this won't be your cup of tea". But to be clear: I will only rec things that I like. This is here to celebrate and to love more works that ultimately make my day get better in small ways.
(i'm putting a list of my general likes and dislikes at the end of this post, if it interests you)
Q: "I am looking for XYZ, do you know it?"
While I think that blogs with open ask boxes are very useful for the community and it's amazing to have people helping you find a work that you lost, I have seem a lot of rec blogs I like overflown with requests and it makes harder for me to find posts that I am interested in (when I am not the one looking, lol). Anyways, it may seem a little pretentious of me, since I have not really started this properly I am already think that I will be some kind of superstar of the recers LOL. Maybe this will have no audience whatsoever, but I think that I won't be accepting those kind of asks for now, or at least I won't be answering them individually - let's see how it goes.
HOWEVER, if you want to rec me something, please do :D I love getting recs! This fandom is so big that there must be a thousand hidden jews out there :)
Well, I intend to do ALMOST daily recs lol. I have a lot bookmarked already, so at first I will be reccing that here. Also, I am a grad student who has a 9-to-5 job, so sometimes I just disappear to cry about my life choices, whine about deadlines and eventually do assignments.
cis, she/her. Besides long walks by the ocean, I like to to get lost on links in wikipedia, love all pets, I am constantly suffering with capitalism and surplus value (lol), grad school student and very bad at replying messages (sorry!!!!). I run this blog alone, to rant and to have fun :) hate and disrespectful comments will be ignored/blocked. Racist comments or whitewashing comments will also be ignored/blocked.
the boys just being best friends / found family
fave tropes/guilt pleasures
subversion of ABO stereotypes
canon with one of the boys slowly realising that he is in love with the other during the years and pinning for a long time :D
one is famous, the other is not
one is friends with a member of the other's family (i don't know if this can be called a trope or why i like it but i just do)
when a character is overly negative about themselves without great justification
yoongi being overly cold or overly tsundere in general
a lot of violence and gore
rape/sexual violence as a cheap plot device
healing dicks/vaginas/sex in general to sexual violence victims (when a person suffers a violence and he/she/them finds the one, have sex with them miraculously heal all the scars)
very uke-ish/seme-ish dynamics
i don't really read much of (aka i don't go looking around for those stories actively but i might be convinced to read it them if they are good)
third-person omniscient narrator with multiple povs in the same scene (it can work wonderfully if it's well done, but when it's not I find it very off-putting and disorienting)
