isaias’ grip around his glass weakens out of the blue, an ominous sign that something is about to unfold. he’s never been one to trust omens, but this one fulfills itself when she begs his pardon in a tone that means that their conversation is far from over. how he manages to get himself in these things, he’ll never fucking know. at least his glass is empty, so he slides it over to the bartender and turns to her, gaze narrowed.
something close to a scoff escapes him in a quick exhale, as his idle hand taps against the bar. so she wasn’t a no-maj after all, a very small consolation. “ i assure you, i’m not lost, ” he drawls. “ if i didn’t have to be here, i wouldn’t be. ” some truth to that, but he curses himself immediately for his words. on the off-chance she asked what he was doing there, he’d have no ready answer.
he considers her for a moment. no idea what she’d done to make a friend in this part of town, but it would mean she wasn’t quite as upstanding as her mannerisms would make her out to be. that, and the fact that something about her altogether is making it more and more difficult to come up with good reasons to deny her help. must be the drink.
“ and how’s this friend supposed to look, then ? ”
she hopes only the delicate wrinkle of her nose gives away her discomfort. a downtown wizarding bar is just about the last place she wants to spend an evening. everything, from the glasses smashing like clockwork to the almost rhythmic grunts that ebb and flow around them, has her hair standing on end. it wasn’t safe, especially for beings like her. the blonde represses the urge to flinch. choosing to hold the man’s gaze rather than betray the nerves beginning to take hold.
“it must be something horrible to be keeping you here.” she notes with a tutt, the soft drawl of her accent doing very little to dull the judgement. her crystal hues still flash curiously, mind already racing to answer the question of then why, but she quashes it in favour of keeping things civil. “you seem quite comfortable amongst the rabble.” something that ought to unnerve her, and yet.
she blinks away, lashes fluttering as her features draw together in thought. how to describe little theo. “he’s... probably very well dressed, perhaps a pretty neck scarf? lovely eyes. taller than me but shorter than you. maybe a little lost.” delphine nods to herself, happy with her charming assessment as she glances back with a grin.
“should be easy to pick out, no?”
