Olivia Rodrigo’s new album is so perfect, I really did not expect to relate to it so much! I think the last few songs of the album are my favourite because of how specific they are. It goes from less, which i think is the break up point in the album, to expectations which is like the funniest campiest song about the manic hoe phase everyone goes through after a break up. We’ve all been there <3. And then after that cigarette smoke which is like the lingering anger and sadness when you realize that entertaining other men will only make his absence more apparent, and you’re really forced to process what has happened. It almost feels like we’re intruding on a personal conversation in their relationship. Like I feel like a fly on the wall. I really do think it’s her best album and also her saddest album. It’s such a uniform body of work, each song truly belongs there and serves a purpose. But each song is also so unique, while still maintaining her signature sound. It’s so crazy. Although it’s hard to pick a favourite, I’d say cigarette smoke hits the hardest for me personally because of how raw it is. She hasn’t been this vulnerable in her entire career which says a lot considering sour and guts are both incredibly emotional and personal albums. She has truly outdone herself.
been feeling like a chud in a really major way lately …
Why did nobody tell me fleabag is the best show ever made? I finished watching it a few days ago and I honestly wish I had watched it sooner. I think I avoided it because I had seen all those tiktok edits of fleabag and the priest and I don’t usually love the corrupt church trope. Not because I find it offensive or anything - I’m not religious. It’s just never really done right in my opinion. But Phoebe Waller-Bridge somehow managed to nail it. She captures what it feels like to be a young woman grappling with your morally ambiguous (leaning unethical) actions and what that says about you as a person, if anything at all. The main thing I’m taking from this is that people are complex, good intentions don’t always lead to good actions, and despite all of that, we can still BE good! Maybe an overly optimistic takeaway from a seriously devastating show (don’t talk to me about the ending), but I think that might be the whole point.
i love al pacino
