– He was pleased by her interest in him, and how obvious it was that she, too, had missed him. She said it in little, subtle ways. The way she shut her eyes as if she enjoyed the simple act of his hands on her face, and the gentle way that she spoke to him, even while teasing him lightly. Also, the way she asked about him, and how she seemed eager to take him with her and to tell him about her life as well. It was reassuring, and he felt at ease in her presence, the anxiety he had felt while away from her slowly melting away.
She seemed to know the area better than he did, so he allowed her to lead him to wherever it was that she wanted to eat and talk at. He wanted to know more about her life this time around as well, especially since there were still things that he felt somewhat anxious about.
Once they had arrived at their destination, he took a seat across from her, their hands having to part so that they could be seated easily. It left such an empty feeling, that electricity between them suddenly evaporating and leaving him feeling cold and alone in the booth across from her. When the waitress approached them and handed them their menus, she smiled between the two of them.
“I saw you two holding hands on your way in. Is this a date?” She asked, her tone friendly and open. It was only natural to assume that they were a couple by the way that they had entered the establishment. And, before Artemis could even say anything, Apollo interjected. “It is.” And the waitress smiled and left to let them have time to discuss and look over the menus.
“I go by Taiyou,” Apollo moved on quickly from the subject that the waitress had brought up. “Kamiyama Taiyou. I’m a school choir director, officially. I also make a little by playing at bars and stuff when I feel like it. What about you? Are you also living alone?” The last question was asked in a different tone, one more careful and secretive, as if hiding his true intentions for asking it. His biggest concern was that she had stayed single, and had upheld her vow of chastity even in this lifetime. For both her sake, and his own sanity.
When the waitress seemed a little too interested in them, she shook her head, her kindest smile evident on her lips. “Oh, no, no, he’s just my twin brother.” Despite him trying to fool her into thinking that they were on a date--which they were, except it bore no romantic meaning for her whatsoever, she wanted to make it known that she wasn’t, in any way, interested in him in the way she seemed to think. “Funny that your name means sun, do you always want your name to pay some sort of homage to your darling ball of gas?” she teased, her head tipping to the side, her elbow propped on the table, chin settled on her palm. When he mentioned he was a school choir director, she made a face, cringing. “They actually let you be a choirmaster? Are humans daft beings? But you’re so bad at it.” Again, a joke made in good fun. It was the sort of banter she grew up with when it comes to him; as much as she loved her brother, it was equally fun to tease him. “I’m happy you have a decent job, though,” she said rather sincerely, giving him another of those rare smile she only ever reserved for him when she was being completely honest. She hummed when he asked, her head tipping to the side some as she thought of how to break to him the life she had been leading up to now. In the middle of her silence, the waitress returned with their menu, and she took one, browsing through it as she spoke finally. “Well, I go by Tsukino this time-- Moriyama Tsukino. It’s funny, because we both have yama in our names. Are you sure you aren’t copying me?” Again, she laughed. “Well, anyway, so yeah. I live as the landscape artist, Tsukino. I actually run the business, it’s mine, and we go completely organic, if you know what I mean.” Oblivious to his underlying intention, the goddess went completely casual as she told him of her living arrangement. “I actually reside in a complex, or something-- they call it a share-house? Where I literally share a house with people I don’t know, but as I get acquainted with them, they’re actually very nice. I’m not always home, though. I’m more comfortable sleeping at the office. My couch is large enough to accommodate me during night ins. You know how I am-- I’m more at home with plants surrounding me. I couldn’t even bring a succulent to the share house since Akiji-kun is ‘allergic’ to plants.”

– “I don’t know, Artemis.” The god grinned, obviously amused by the joke he had made earlier. I thought referring to Zeus’ penis as a titan dick was hilarious.” That was an exaggeration, really, but her reacting to the casual, off-handed nickname for the genitalia made it all the more funny to him. “Anyways, I wouldn’t get killed for it. I’ve done worse. Rebel against him, kill an ally of his… Sure, I got turned mortal a couple of times, but I didn’t die.”
“For once in your life, listen to me!” Quite honestly, she was terribly annoyed. Irritated. Exasperated, even. Her brother had tendencies where he doesn’t give a care and just does anything and everything recklessly despite the possible consequences that hound him. She was only concerned for him like she had always been, but he was just so goddamn stubborn, that it gets on her nerves most of the time. “Why can’t you just listen to me, and do what I ask of you for once? Stop lookin’ for goddamn trouble! I’m growing tired of looking out for you and keeping you in line, Apollo, the next time you mess up, you’re on your fucking own!”
– “But Artemis,” he began, finally turning to face her and her wrath head on. “I can’t promise that kind of thing. It just comes to me naturally, and your reactions kind of just spur me on all the more.” He knew he was pushing his luck, though, as she was always true to her words and was not afraid of punishing anyone who crossed her, and his punishment was light for his crime considering they were so close.
Still, despite his brave attempt to stand up to her, he began gathering up clothing and whatever else he had tossed around carelessly before, putting them away where he could remember they belonged. “It’s not crap, by the way,” he basically sulked as he spoke, “I don’t sing crap. I make everything sound way better, right?”
“Well then, I can’t promise that I won’t break your bones or your nose the next time you even serenade me,” she wrinkled her nose in distaste. It wasn’t that she hated it, because it was truly nice, but the idea that she’s being serenaded just makes her itch and annoyed-- it almost made her think that Aphro sent him to irritate her, but she knew her brother wouldn’t do that-- or he would have just come on his own free will.
She watched him put her clothes back together, rolling her eyes as she stomped to where he was, standing in front of him and her closet as she shoved him out of the way, fixing her clothes in the way she liked them arranged, putting them together by kind and by color. “It is crap. It’s annoying and all you ever sing about around me is that bloody thing called love and feelings! At least sing something else!”
– The smile was never wiped from his face, even after her less than enthusiastic reactions to everything that was occurring. He could see her feelings in her eyes, so there was no need for her to directly tell him or show him how she truly felt. It had always been the most comforting aspect of their relationship to him. Though she never actually said how important he was to her, and never showed much affection toward him, he still knew how she felt, too. She would do anything for him. Kill for him, even, just as he would for her. Just as they had for each other in the past. To protect him and take revenge on those who hurt him were probably her reasonings; after all, she was the older one of the two of them, though only slightly. Not that he didn’t argue that fact sometimes anyways.
But, for himself, his reasons for his actions were slightly different from hers. Jealousy. Possessiveness. He couldn’t let anyone get as close to her as he was. She was his, wasn’t she? From the very beginning, she had been his. She was his other half, his mirror image and his reflection. No one else could have her the way that he did. And, anyways, as a virgin goddess, he had to make sure that she kept herself guarded and that men stayed away, to prevent any trouble from happening, and to prevent anyone from being punished by Zeus.
He could only imagine how she would react if he said those words to her. Anger, probably. She was often angry or upset with him, because they were just so completely different. Like the sun and the moon, naturally. More than twins, they were two halves of a whole person. Two halves of the same soul in two different bodies. They completed each other, truly. It was the only comfort he found in knowing that he had something with her that no one else could ever possibly have. No one could compare to his position in her life. Even a life that was infinite, basically.
She would, though, become aggressive if she knew his thoughts. She could take care of herself, and she had proved it many times before. Still, he always found himself thinking the same things and putting himself in the same position every single time. And maybe he wanted her in ways that he would never have her, too. She was nearly immune to romantic love, and would never look at him that way, and she had also taken a vow of chastity. His role, the position that he had fallen into, was only that of a brother to her. It was decided the moment that she had taken her vow, and it sealed both of their fates. And he had thrown himself at so many people; at other goddesses like Hestia or Hecate. But, no matter how many mortals or immortals he tried to woo, or take to bed, they always ended in emptiness. Mortals died, or some other situation ended the relationship in heartbreak. As far as immortals went, they usually rejected him. So typical of immortals. They never could appreciate when something amazing was in their reach.
In the same way that the sun and moon rarely met in the sky, he and Artemis were together and apart. At least the sun and the moon could be found in the same sky sometimes, or would meet during a solar or lunar eclipse. He barely even had that. Even when he touched her, just simply placed his hand around her wrist or placed a palm against her cheek, he still felt like he couldn’t really reach her. She was so far away, and he couldn’t even explain what he was feeling to her. He couldn’t say anything to her, who he had always told everything to.
“You were trying to hide from me? If you really were, then I wouldn’t be able to find you so easily. You wouldn’t have basically come running to me the moment you realized that I was so close by.” His voice was teasing, though he knew what he said was also basically true. Her second question, though, he had to think on for a moment. While he pondered it, he placed his hands on her cheeks, his thumbs stroking over the freckles on her face. Suddenly, his voice and expression seemed to become more serious. “Because you’re a part of me, and I’ll always be able to find you. I’d always come running to you, too.”
She allowed him to touch her when he did--perhaps, for just a few minutes. After all, there was no harm in letting her brother hold her face like he had. Her eyes fell shut, almost relishing the feeling of their physical connection, his skin on hers igniting a sort of spark, and she felt safe and secure; she felt complete. A sigh slipped from her slightly parted lips, before she moved her head away from his hold, the contact a little longer than what she deemed appropriate. However, she was rather aware of her brother’s need for a sort of connection with her that she reached for his hand instead, holding it a bit as she swayed them.
“Sappy as always, this one,” she jested, her eyes rolling a bit as she set aside what she thought was his cheese, although he did have a point. It was true--years have gone and went, and they’ve been born over and over in this planet, and yet each time, he seemed to have found his way back to her, just like how the sun falls to the west just as the moon rises there. Numerous times they’ve gotten together; not once ever failing. The force of attraction between them is just too strong that it brings them together all the time, no matter how far apart they may be.
“So tell me about you,” she began, as she wasted no time to ask him about his life this time around. They had been apart for far too long that she wanted to know how he was doing. It was her maternal instincts kicking in--Apollo was her younger brother after all, despite being twins. Just like how an older sister would look out for the younger one, she checked on him, asking as much as she could about his life until that day.
However, even before he could speak, Artemis, tugged on his hand a bit, her head turning some as she glanced toward the way down the street, toward another that was lined with various places to eat. “I’m a bit hungry,” she said, her nose wrinkling a bit. “I haven’t eaten a thing since breakfast because it was so busy at work-- I’ll tell you where I’m working and what I’m doing, but over food.”
I love the rain. I love how it softens the outlines of things. The world becomes softly blurred, and I feel like I melt right into it.

– His body flinched at the voice, one whose tone he was definitely familiar with. His back was toward the door of the bedroom, but he could already guess what her facial expression looked like without even glancing over his shoulder. Yes, his first instinct was to run from the goddess, but he instead turn around to face her, dropping the articles of clothing that he had been holding in his fists. There was no where to run, or else he probably would have. “You’re the one that hid my ukulele!” In his mind, that was the perfect excuse for the disaster area that had become her room. “I was just trying to serenade you with Hey Soul Sister.”
If he hadn’t been for the fact that the male was who he was, her fist would probably be already dating his face. She willed herself to calm down, her eyes falling shut as she grumbled quietly, words inaudible and incomprehensible, although she knew that he knew it’s probably something along the lines of ‘you should be thankful you’re my twin brother, or else you would have been dead the minute I saw you touching my clothes.’
“Just give me my clothes back-- no,” she paused, her eyes then opening to look at him dead in the eye, her gaze almost threatening. “Actually, you fix my clothes and put them back where you got them, and swear you wouldn’t serenade me with whatever crap you know, or else--you’ll never get to see your precious ukelele ever again.”

– There was no way of knowing for sure who was who in their mortal disguises. Under the cloak of a regular human, and while using a human name, Apollo would hardly even recognize himself. But, that could always just be because, though he was known for being the sun God, he wasn’t always the brightest God in the bunch. There was one person he would always recognize though, no matter what form she took. They had been together from the beginning, and his soul was linked to hers in so many ways that he could never even begin to untangle the mess that was going on there.
And, so, he knew her right away. Her presence, as always, just as powerful as the moon’s. His feet naturally led him to her, where she had placed herself in the park, and he stopped in front of her as if he knew that she would also recognize him by his simple presence immediately also. She probably would, and he knew it.
“I think we must be soulmates or something. I feel like I’ve known you all my life.” Lame. Cheesy. Totally him. If that didn’t give him away, he didn’t know what would at that point. But, no matter what expression crossed her face, he felt complete standing in front of her. As if they were reflecting images coming together as a whole again, he felt as though they were both in the right position. Not reaching out to place a part of his skin on hers was a difficult task by itself.
“What are you doing here? Befriending the squirrels?” He joked, though somehow, he could see her doing that still. After all, there wasn’t much else there to talk to. People seemed scarce at the moment. When he glanced around the surrounding area, he noted that they could still see the buildings of the city through the leaves and branches of the trees in the park. “This place really doesn’t suit you. So many buildings and people in such a small area, and you were never much of a people person, either.”
Perhaps, given the many times she would seek refuge there at the park when the world became a little too overwhelming, the people around found it next to normal to see the female walking among the tall trees, her palms resting on the trunks as she seemingly communicated with nature. Even her colleagues noticed just how much happier she was when outside--where plants and trees and grass were aplenty, compared to the cold, concrete jungles Tokyo was filled of.
However, something was different that day; there was a sort of force beckoning her to go to the park. Something was strange; although not exactly off, it was-- out of the usual. Almost as if the trees were excitedly calling for her, the birds chirping of a news that she can’t even begin to understand. There were voices in her head, all speaking differently of the same message: he’s here.
And with that, she took a few minutes off, leaving the comforts (?) of her office, to set on an adventure, in the search of what was there.
It was almost natural to her, how she would simply dash along the cobblestone ground, her flats smacking against the surface with every step. Auburn eyes scanned the place almost frantically, pink lips parting as she breathed, stopping on her tracks for a bit. Turning around slightly, she glanced at the trees-- where? Where is it, where is he? There was a force guiding her through the park, leading her towards the very source of the attraction.
She stopped on her tracks, her nose wrinkling some when she found him--he was glowing, truly, how can she not notice him? He was almost like the sun--no, he was the sun. Light radiated from his very being, and even more when he spoke, his lips parting, a dimple denting his cheek as he spoke. When he jested, she rolled her eyes. Of course, he would say things like such. He was greasy, after all; a cheesy sap despite his obnoxious tendencies. Artemis scoffed, her freckled nose wrinkling some.
“And here I was, trying to hide from you. How come you keep on finding me?” She asked, arms folding over her chest, a brow quirking.
If she were to be honest, though, she knew exactly how.
Aphrodite: So, which one of you is older?
Apollo: It doesn’t matter
Artemis: I am.

Poseidon - Greek Mythology
XXII. TO POSEIDON
I begin to sing about Poseidon, the great god, mover of the earth and fruitless sea, god of the deep who is also lord of Helicon and wide Aegae. A two-fold office the gods allotted you, O Shaker of the Earth, to be a tamer of horses and a saviour of ships! Hail, Poseidon, Holder of the Earth, dark-haired lord! O blessed one, be kindly in heart and help those who voyage in ships!

Artemis Hemerasia, Soothing daughter of Leto and Zeus, I call to you. You comb the knots out of matted fur, And do the same to your huntresses’ locks. Your gentle fingers carve trenches through rivers of gold, Past chocolate branches and black abysses, In between the copper coloured mercury that is a mane. You take turns with your followers giving back massages. After hunting your shoulders are sore and muscles stiff and aching. Summer-scented oils pour out of glass decanters, Warmed by the sun and fragrant like lavender. Stepping into clear waters you bathe among smooth rocks, Hair floating along the surface of smooth waves. Your scalp relaxes as water rushes by, clean and fresh from the dirt of the day. You aid your younger huntresses with their washing and scrub their tender heads gently. I praise you my sweet goddess, and pray you soothe me as your daughter.
