BEING
Anxiety and Action
I have conditioned a response. It is an ‘if then’ reaction.
If I feel my chest begin to tighten, my heart rate rising, my mind becoming foggy, racing thoughts, focus waning, then I act. I do.
It doesn’t matter what the action is, but I do act.
I might create. I might work out. I might begin reading in depth about a subject that’s interesting to me. I might plan and journal. I might start a session of yoga. I might pick up a weight.
Regardless, I do. I make my moment into a verb, and once I become that verb I choose a goal or a finish line.
I look in the distance at something fascinating, throw a rock as hard as I can, and begin after that rock.
Sometimes my anxiety is the burden I need to throw forward with my own will.
Alt Aspen
Meaning of the Aspen
Aspen trees are one of the first tree species to repopulate an area that has been cleared by fire or cutting. Groves of Aspen can replenish themselves in as little as fifty years.
My goal with alt aspen is to provide a simple blueprint for self-improvement. Sometimes it’s hard and fast rules, other times it’s lifestyle and moral philosophies. The end goal is to have communities of likeminded families who can help and support one another. Self improvement on an atomized scale is where communities really start. Those who self improve when isolated are the new seeds to create entire forests. I believe we can breathe life back into the world, and that there is hope for our nation.
Who is Alt Aspen made for? Why did you make Alt Aspen?
American ‘identity’ is something that is marketed and sold to us. One of the most important responsibilities of the alt-right is to provide people with a path to find their identity and culture. In many ways we will need to build this culture out and create. I humbly aim to serve that culture, and want to contribute to that identity. I believe that we must share our visions for what is ideal in order for that ideal to become a reality.
I see a lot of talk about virtues, moral ideals, degeneracy, self-improvement, but rarely do I see elaboration on the framework that these ideas exist under. Put simply, what is the ideal lifestyle that we should be living up to? I don’t ask that question to answer it in generalities either. I want to dig into physical health, personal philosophies, and understanding a shared moral framework and the types of lives that we should lead as a nation. I want to be clear, there’s a lot of wiggle room here. I’m speaking about living life with good form to the best of our abilities. These ideas stretch across both Pagan and Christian philosophies, as they are of our European lineage. You can take or leave what I put down, my aim is to be a resource of strength.
The Subjects:
Physical Health
Mental and Emotional Stability
Virtuous and Ethical Living
Social Standards
Life Goals
There are other subjects I want to cover, including raising kids, but I’m not there yet. I can’t teach what I don’t know. I can pontificate, and maybe collaborate with dads who I respect until I get there. However, I feel like anyone can get on track so long as they have a desire to improve themselves.
Physical Health
Everything comes from physical health. That’s not to say that someone can’t be virtuous without their health, but it is to say that success is much harder to reach without the help of a healthy and functioning body. You can lift a heavy object when you’re weak, but it becomes far less painful to do so when you are strong.
I should also add that I think labor is important for every man to know how to do, and all men should know how to do some labor well. A man of the highest estate and most technical of skills should still know how to chop wood, or frame a simple structure. Physical health is important for this, and those activities help to maintain physical health.
Nutrition, exercises, and healthy hobbies and activities will be discussed here. I intend to make things exceedingly simple and easy to apply. I also intend to provide information on how to get this actually incorporated into someone’s life. I’ve been with little money and exhausted to all hell and still pulled through a relatively healthy diet while living alone. There are ways to make this happen that make sense, and can be applied to anyone in a scalable way.
I won’t have many books to recommend regarding this as most of the information I’ve found is online. I’ll be referring to different websites, youtubers, and health website. If you are involved with any of these groups or want to be involved, get in contact. ( [email protected] )
Mental Health & Emotional Stability
Once physical health is under control then a baseline can be reached to start working internally. It’s difficult to look inwards when your diet is clouding your mental state. This subject will touch on both philosophy and actual simple practices that make it easier to wrangle tough situations and remain resolute and dignified. This will get varying degrees of esoteric and complicated, but at it’s core will be simple and easy to follow and apply.
I’m also writing these for people at very different stages of dealing with nihlism and existential dread. I’ll also be including writings on practices to deal with drug habits that I’ve seen people use successfully.
In this subject there will be many book recommendations and philosophies I’ll be referencing. I’ll include any youtubers or other personalities if I think of them, but I have most of my experience with this subject through direct reading.
Virtuous and Ethical Living
Wisdom, courage, justice, and temperance. These are the four virtues I will start with. Depending on your faith or your moral framework you may add onto this. I will probably talk about different faiths and what their perspectives on virtues are. However, I want to start with the very basic tools, a hammer, set of tongs, and anvil to forge the rest of our moral framework from.
There’s plenty of reading I could recommend, but most of this will be simple enough to explain that anyone will understand and be happy to comply. These teachings are nothing that I’ve created, simply lessons I’m passing onto you that our forefathers have passed onto us.
Social Standards
Who should we avoid associating with? Why should we avoid associating with them? What are our limits? What sort of friends, and family, should we keep in our lives? What sort of social circles should we be seeking out to improve ourselves?
There’s a lot of questions, and I am young. I’ve only just broken out of an old paradigm socially. Once I get to this subject, I think that there will be more conversation and more discourse. I also don’t think that there’s any one way to answer these questions for everyone. We all have a different role to play socially.
However, I do think there are some pitfalls that we must avoid falling into that will waste years of our lives. The sort of standards we set for the people we surround ourself with can make or break us as individuals and as groups. A man alone is no man, but a man surrounded by filth may need to clean his surroundings before his light can be seen.
Life Goals
Freedom is responsibility, and not everyone craves absolute freedom, not everyone is prepared to bare all that weight. This subject is going to be different for everyone. Not everyone needs to own property, have 8 kids, and own a business, and I really do think that’s fine. We all have a role to play.
However, I will be talking about different goals, and how to decide what goals are right for someone to pursue, and what goals really don’t make sense for them. Success is, and should be different for all of us.
Again though, there is a few minimum goals that I do think we should all have, and those will be laid out in a simple enough way. These goals may not even feel that difficult to reach once a person’s life is getting into order, but rather they might just be a matter of patience.
All of that being said, thank you for your time. If you have any projects you’re working on that might go well with this, questions, or feedback, feel free to reach me at [email protected]. I’m Alexander Mackey on facebook. Feel free to check out my website altaspen.com.
