I think my fiance and i just had a bit of a breakthrough. I was feeling very ?? Eh idk what that emotion is maybe guilty maybe insecure about being aromantic and in a relationship

We had a talk about it where I admitted I have no romantic or sexual attraction to my fiance but that Im with them because theyre my best friend and my (platonic) soulmate and I cant imagine not marrying and growing old together

It was pretty emotional for the both of us but in a very positive way!!

We’ve always been really open with each other about me being aromantic and them being asexual but this conversation was just.. different? In the way that we were both able to put to words that our relationship is that of 2 best friends and not one reliant on attraction

They know I don’t expect/want/need sexual attraction in our relationship and I know they don’t expect me to reciprocate any romantic feelings they have for me and that our friendship is enough!!

Like if you say you’re bi but you’ve only dated people of the opposite gender? you’re bi as hell i don’t care.

If you tell me you’re trans but you haven’t transitioned yet or don’t want to undergo certain aspects of transitioning? you are trans! I’m gonna call you by the name and pronouns you tell me to use

what if someone looks feminine, is afab, and uses she/her pronouns but identifies as nonbinary? what if someone looks masculine, is amab, and uses he/him pronouns but identifies as nonbinary? both of those people are nonbinary because they said they are!

if you’re asexual or aromantic but you’re still hetero in the sense that you experience attraction of some sort to the opposite gender and that gender alone? you’re still a part of the community babe! Aros and aces have always been queer.

If you don’t know if you’re queer or not? you’re certainly welcome to be a part of our spaces while you figure it out!

if you don’t wanna use labels? dont! that’s it! never let anyone pressure you into labels if you’re not ready to define that part of yourself.

if you use labels/pronouns that are uncommon and/or perceived as strange? that’s your label! those are your pronouns! who am i to tell you you can’t use those words to describe yourself??

basically fuck all the debates about the nuances of this stuff. if you tell me you’re queer, you’re fucking queer. I have no right to start discourse with people about their own identities and neither does anyone else.

percifem(inine): someone who is comfortable presenting in feminine ways, but only when those around them perceive them as male/nonbinary/non-female - for example, a transmasculine person who is only comfortable presenting in a feminine way when they know they won’t be perceived as a girl.

percimasc(uline): someone who is comfortable presenting in masculine ways, but only when those around them perceive them as female/nonbinary/non-male - for example, a transfeminine person who is only comfortable presenting in a masculine way when they know they won’t be perceived as a boy.

for anon! ‘perci’ comes from ‘perceive’, and masc and fem of course refer to the presentation, with ‘perci’ being a prefix to indicate that the person feels more comfortable knowing how they’ll be perceived before presenting that way.

the small outer stripes represent a sort of ‘buffer’ of masculinity/neutrality and femininity/neutrality placed between the person and others in order to ensure they aren’t seen in gendered ways they’re uncomfortable with, and the pink-to-purple and blue-to-green gradients represent the way the person hopes to be able to comfortably present!

i used transmasc and transfem in the examples of who might like these terms, but they aren’t trans-only!

so like. i thought we’d settled a while back that using asexual spectrum/acespec for both ace and aro is arophobic. especially alloarophobic.

like, i don’t care that you’re using ‘asexual’ in the general ‘not attracted to anyone’ sense rather than the ‘not sexually attracted to anyone’ sense. it’s still arophobic. it’s still lumping us in with asexual people. the aro community has been trying SO HARD to spread information about our identities and make people understand that we are not always asexual/aroace, and it’s fucking regressive to lump us into the asexual spectrum.

As an aromantic who experiences alterous attraction I’ll never understand how i got so lucky with my fiancé who understands that while i love them its not in the “normal” way and they completely accept that and we’re able to have a happy and fulfilling relationship regardless

I know boy, girl, nonbinary, gener fluid, and demi boy or demi girl, am I missing any genders? Cause I'm all sorts of confused right now and it'd be nice to know if I'm seeing everything there is to see or not.

Since gender is a spectrum, there are a lot. I compiled a list of the ones I know off the top of my head (correct me if I’m wrong.)

Gender Identities

Agender – having no gender

Androgyne – partially male and partially female

Aporagender – not identifying with the binary/nonbinary,but having a strong sense of gender nonetheless

Bigender – gender composed of two separate identities
