Analyzing the character , Alucard
From the series Hellsing Ultimate / OVA
As an alucard lover and someone who delved deep into his lore for the past few months i do find it slightly irritating that some of the fans ive intereacted with merely see him as "a badass vampire with a jackal" that serves the hellsing organization. When i actually intereact with fans that do aknowlege his past i only see them talk about how his past is unfortunate and sad , which that is true but i would really like to delve deeper into his story and into many things that do irritate me.
This is a long rant so be prepared for A LOT
By what we know Alucard, known as Vlad Dracula Tepes was captured by the ottoman empire during his youth and later in life after losing his war against the Turks, he was captured again and slated for execution in 1476. At his last moment he drank the blood of his slaughtered soldiers and became a true vampire. When he was Vlad he didnt think "Ill die for my faith" he thought "I am too important to die and feeling as if God had abandoned and betrayed me once again ive had engouh". During his years of living he became the prince of Wallachia and slaughtered many people including his own. Vlad was famously known as "The Impaler" which obviously he impaled people. "Impaling" was a torture method used by the ottomans to strike fear and a threat to the enemies. It is known to be a slow torture method which unironically vlad used against them and his enemies.
By what ive read , during the victorian era he used to live in a castle and hide among humans, but this is mostly how i see his way of living there fit since after all Hellsing OVA is based off the novel of Bram Stoker.
Later on he was defeated by a group of vampire hunters led by Abraham Van Helsing which he later on gave vlad his current name, "Alucard". Instead of killing Alucard, they used "Control Art Restriction" a type of sorcery to controll his insane powers. How it works is that now he has to take orders by the current master that holds the "power" in order to unleash his power in levels. For example his "Alucard 0" form is the well known 'final form' , aka Vladcard / Vlad.
3. ALUCARD'S RELATIONSHIP WITH INTEGRA
Fast foward to the present of the early chapters/episodes with Alucard's current master, Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. And to note, honestly their dynamic is preety complex unlike how most people think it is.
I would like to clarify that EVEN if Hirano implied Alucard and Integra together romantically, such dynamic is not acceptable at all. Alucard knew Integra since she was 13 when she found him in the basement. I wouldnt call it a father-daughter relationship either since there are multipule scenes where Alucard is acting in such an unhinged way i dont even get why those scenes out of pocket are there.
Their relationship is clearly a master-servant one where he serves Integra as the hellsing's secret weapon and its main one. He always demands orders from her since he is a sadist and a masochist who enjoys the thrill of war and being ordered around but if you really think about it, its a really toxic dynamic.
He strangely prefers to push himself into his limits, even if it damages him or injures him. Alucard lets enemies slaughter him just to see how much will they have but also because as i mentioned its confirmed that he is a masochist and laughs the injuries off by mocking his enemies.(he has an insane regeneration of course, but it doesnt mean that he cannot feel pain) .
One of the main reasons he may do this is to mock his enemies as he can see their hope of winning fade and it amuses him. But it can also mean that he technically allows that treatment as a punishment for losing his humanity like a 'coward' as he calls himself such way. This action can count as sh because he IS allowing someone to injure him and Alucard isnt even trying to avoid the attack. Not to mention how he always craves a human to kill him but he pulls out the most insane ways to defend himself after he has engouh of the chase. His intentions may look confusing because they are and he is a really complex character. I will delve deeper into this again.
As i mentioned it he demands a human defeats him, as a punishment for what he lost (his humanity) yet Alucard always uses his powers to either regenerate or defend himself. Alucard is a bully with a death wish.
He toys with his enemies, lets himself get ripped apart just to "flex" his regeneration, and then complains about how "boring" and "empty" his life is.The "loser" mentality In Alucards twisted medieval mind, if you lose a war you become the property of the victor. Abraham Van Helsing beat him fair and square. His ego accepts the "servant" role because, to him, being a "loyal dog" is more honorable than being a disgraceful loser.
He claims to admire "human will" but he sets an impossible standard since he wants a "perfect human" to kill him but he mocks every human who actually shows human traits.
He is engouh self loathed to want to die but too proud to let himself fall.
Alucard is not just a "cool vampire." He is Vlad III, a medieval ruler who made a "rage-buy" for immortality and has had buyers remorse for 500 years. He is an arrogant and hypocritical man who hides his insecurity behind big guns and a red coat. He is a god who asks for permission to speak, a King who chooses to be a slave and a man who hates himself more than he hates any of his enemies.
Lets take the fight with Anderson for example later near the end of hellsing ultimate. I find it infuriating how Alucard went on a rage fuel when Anderson used Helena’s nail because genuinely what did he expect. He was way too strong considering he is a long living vampire and he also did slice off Anderson's arm. Of course hed take a level up by using helena's nail.
5. ALUCARD'S PTSD DRIVEN MOVES
Alucard isn't just "loyal" he is institutionalized. He has been the Hellsing family’s property for so long that he doesnt know how to exist without a master. He’s like a prisoner who finally gets the cell door opened after 100 years and just stays inside because the outside world and his own freedom is too terrifying to face.
I genuinely despise when people say "After he turned into vladcard and adressed to Integra as "my countess/count" and she adressed to him as "my count" he must see her as an equal!" because even if a part of it is slightly true actions speak otherwise. He was KNEELING before Integra as he said those words and it clearly shows that the master-servant dynamic isnt over.
For the "equal" part, it shouldve been Integra to see him that way at first and even if not he didnt need to kneel before her just to say those words. A sign of respect yes but its a time he should recive it back the same way. I will die on that hill when i say theyre not fully equal in the dynamic. I might make another rant on why i think alucard stayed in the hellsing organization after those 30 years despite being free.
A sign of respect, yes i do agree on that but it also can be releated to how he has no further goals and doesnt know what to do other than what he has been doing for the past 3 generstions.
(Also, Their dynamic is much more than that "non balanced master-servant" dynamic and i cant fully blame Integra for the way she treated Alucard due to the way she was raised.)
˚✙ 𓏼 . Thank you if you were interested to read all of this rant! I put a lot of work into wanting to make sense.
