Oh, oh I think it would be emotional for him.
Not so outwardly, like he would play it off in an exaggerated manner later, but he would be deeply touched and also a bit of “it’s about time.”
Like, I imagine, with Ayu who Malleus has known for so long. He wouldn’t realize his feelings first. Having had to keep his feelings, even those of joy locked away for so long.
But then…throughout his time spending with her. He gets this feeling of warmth. But, he doesn’t act out on it you know?? 😭😭 because he doesn’t want to hurt another loved one. Of course, malleus doesn’t say this though nor does it stop Lilia from wing manning at times.
But then, I want to say after book 7, Malleus opens himself up to his feelings more. Book 8 with her presence being so constantly near adds onto it.
She right over there. He can recall her smiles and her laugh from the day.
She’s within reach…
So he goes to Lilia, his room right next door.
Lilia is surprised to see him so suddenly.
The nervous shuffle he hasn’t seen in ages.
When Malleus sits by his side, he whispers the words, “I love her.”
Even he had to strain a bit to hear him, but hear him he does.
A part of Lilia blooms in warmth, so happy to see Malleus experience the kind of love that comes so rarely.
He hugs him while a part of him whispers ‘thank you’ to Ayumi and to the stars.
