A Poem from a Veteran
I am now but a flickering flame…
Once a bright star like everyone else…
Yet seasons passed and our home changed…
So did I…
While I persevered to stay…
Some days quite look the same…
And I couldn’t help but just quietly wait…
I may not be a constant light to your way…
Still, I hope and I pray…
That this flickering flame…
Was able to warm you from the rain…
Was able to shield you away from the pain…
Was able to guide you to the end…
I am now but a mere dying star…
Yet I wish I was able to make a mark…
On your journey to the light and beyond…
Now go little moth…
May you shine brighter than I.
(My thoughts about how I only adopt moths in my forest, wasteland, and especially Eden runs. I never visit them after, only meeting them again by chance. Most I never see again, some grew to become wonderful and beautiful veterans themselves, and a few would rain me kisses as if they remembered our first meeting. I miss them all the same.)
