This kid is going places. (via johanstamos)
A tiny anecdote to go with the previous picture :
When I was a small person, I got pulled out of class one day and told that I would be attending “speech class”. I apparently pronounced my Rs incorrectly. No one had ever suggested such a thing to me before then, and no one ever mentioned it to my parents, so it came as a total shock.
Speech class was a huge stigma, and it wasn’t subtle - speech class kids got pulled out of regular class in the middle of class, and so everybody knew you were different.
I wanted nothing more than to not be going to speech class. I wanted to be safe in my desk, quiet and ignored. All I wanted in school was to be invisible, unnoticed, by everyone. I had to get out of this somehow.
At speech class I sat at a table with a “therapist” with a pack of flash cards. “What is this?” they asked, laying down a picture of a red car.
“An automobile,” I said.
There was a pause.
“What color is it?” they asked.
“Fuchsia,” I said.
(An answer which galled me to give, because fuchsia is not at all the same as red, but winning was more important than being strictly correct.)
Trees were plants, berries were food, green was lime, bricks were paving stones, purple was eggplant. I was very polite, but incredibly difficult.
I was declared magically cured after a few sessions, and no one ever mentioned it to me again.

me, a linguist:
them: holy shit
ceterum censeo….
It should be [tiːm]; [tɪm] = Tim (name)
‘i’ in the first statement refers to the letter <i>, not the sound [iː] or [ɪ]
“Oh, you!”

How White People Sound When They “Disagree” With PoC About Racism Posted on
This morning on Twitter, Mia had a few words for white people who “disagree” with PoC about racism. It’s funny because it’s true.

Pretty girls with long hair!! Stop cutting that shit off!! Boys don’t wanna date girls with boys haircuts!! Sorry!!
here is an idea: normalise the idea that adopting kids is a valid option even for parents who could conceive a child themselves, and not just an inferior backup option for parents who can’t
Iowa barber gives haircuts to children in exchange for them reading stories to him
DUBUQUE (AP) | Children who read books to a local barber have received a free haircut as part of a community event in Dubuque to help families prepare for the upcoming school year.
Barber Courtney Holmes traded the tales for trims on Saturday during the second annual Back to School Bash in Comiskey Park.
Tayshawn Kirby, 9, of Dubuque, read from “Fats, Oils and Sweets,” by Carol Parenzan Smalley, informing Holmes that the average person eats 150 pounds of sugar each year. Before Tayshawn’s 10-year-old brother, Titan Feeney, took his turn in the barber chair, he told his brother the new look was great.
“I just want to support kids reading,” Holmes said.
I LOVE STUFF LIKE THIS
Every time I go downstairs to the laundry room, this pigeon tries to seduce me.
“we have incompatible genitals” is now my favorite excuse.
Look at this adorable idiot trying to be all seductive and shit. I want like five of them.
Hatoful boyfriend.
Lady off screen: What are you doing pigeon?
[Pigeon begins to coo and preen]
Lady: No pigeon, breeding with me would be counter productive.
[Pigeon continues to coo and preen]
Lady: We have incompatible genitals, pigeon!
[Pigeon darts forward]
Lady: No, pigeon, no! Aaaah! [While laughing] Fuck! No! God damn it pigeon!
