Things to do in the Netherlands besides visiting Amsterdam
When I’m abroad and I tell people I live in the Netherlands, their first question is: ‘Oh do you live in Amsterdam?’ and I’ve noticed this is the only place people seem to know about our country, while there is so much more to see and to do. The Rijksmuseum and the van Gogh museum are lovely, but we have a lot of other things that will amaze you. I will list a few of them here.
Take a boat in Giethoorn Giethoorn is a little town in the middle of our country. It is also called ‘Little Venice’, because there are no streets. Inside this little village you have to travel by foot or by boat. There are a lot of really cute, old school Dutch houses
Visit Leiden or Utrecht Everyone really seems to love Amsterdam because of the old houses and her history. However, there are a lot of other really old cities in the Netherlands which are nice to see - for example Leiden, Utrecht and Groningen.
Go to the Beach We may not have a lot of very hot days in the Netherlands, but we have very lovely and wide beaches here. Scheveningen has a great beach with a lot of cute restaurants next to it!
Madurodam Madurodam is a place where you can see the entire country in 1 day: they made a mini-version of all of our greatest buildings! There is a lot to see in this museum.
Open-air museum Arnhem This museum is outside and it shows the way in which Dutch people used to live a 100 years ago. They made it really fun for children but also for adults!
These are just a few examples of what to do on holiday here!
