"ALWAYS THE BABYSITTER. ALWAYS THE GOD DAMN BABYSITTER!"
alwaysthegdbabysitter is an indie, private, selective, & mutually exclusive take on steve harrington of 𝕊𝕋ℝ𝔸ℕ𝔾𝔼ℝ 𝕋ℍ𝕀ℕ𝔾𝕊. canon divergent and heavily head canon based. multiverse & crossover friendly. written by luke 30+
a study in: being the golden boy until you aren’t, learning how to bleed quietly, running toward the noise every time, loving too loudly and paying for it later, mistaking usefulness for worth, a bat with nails and no backup plan, surviving on instinct and bad ideas, protecting kids who aren’t yours like they are, teeth knocked loose but still standing, being brave because someone has to be, the weight of expectation and the absence of praise, hands that shake only after it’s over, a hero who never asked to be one, and staying soft in a world that keeps trying to harden you.
rules for mobile under the cut.

[001.] **MINORS PERSONALS & UNDER 21 DO NOT INTERACT.** listen, i'm old by internet standards, alright? i was born in the 20th century. gimme a break. i just don't feel comfortable writing with people that are that much younger than me considering the content on my blog. i would rather you don't even follow me, but i'm gonna be real, i'm way too lazy to go and soft block every one who doesn't listen to this rule. just know if i don't see your age listed i probably won't be following.
[002.] **DON'T GOD MOD.** the fact that i even have to say this speaks for itself but the deal here is you don't get to control steve. he's tougher than he looks, alright? so he might be shit in a fight, you don't get to decide if he stays down. that's how this works.
[003.] **CONTENT TO KEEP IN MIND.** mental health and all the ups and downs that come along with it will be a big focus on this blog. steve has been through a lot starting at a young age. he's fought monsters, he's been tortured, he's lost friends and not only that but he doesn't seem to have the greatest parents. just note that there will be triggering content on this blog from suicide ideation to child neglect and abuse. although the latter will *never* be something i write, it may be mentioned and i will do my best to tag it and any other subjects that may be triggering.
[004.] **DON'T BE A DICK.** and i don't mean to just me either. everyone is here to have a good time and i really don't need to see or hear about people getting harassed, mistreated or abused. if i see that type of behavior, i'm not going to deal with it. i don't participate in "call out culture" but i will pop the fuck off at you personally. actions have consequences and trust me when i say i have no problem being a consequence. if you wanna be a dick, i promise i can be one right back. try me.
[005.] **I HAVE A LIFE.** yeah, i'm open about working from home and it gives me a lot of flexibility to do things here, but this doesn't mean that i will constantly be available to write/plot/chat. i do still work even if it might seem more laid back than what people are used to. it's still a full time job. i also have a family and a house to keep up on top of that so sometimes my hobby has to take a back seat. additionally, i'm also a fairly introverted person unless i really click with someone. this means i might not say anything to you ooc for days or even longer. it's nothing against you, i'm just that type of guy.
[006.] **ABOUT SHIPPING.** unless i know you and your character really well, i'm not going to autoship. the whole cliché it's about chemistry line applies here. i can't force feelings, even in writing. so even if your character has been in a relationship with steve canonically, that won't apply here unless otherwise plotted and stated. additionally, while steve may have had a history with the ladies that's likely all it's going to be; history. you find out a lot about yourself facing your mortality over and over again in your formative years. like the difference between who you think you should be attracted to, who you're expected to be attracted to, and who *you're actually* attracted to. additionally, i just feel more comfortable as a queer person writing queer coded relationships. that's not to say there won't ever be any ladies in steve's life it's just going to be something rare.
[007.] **THIS IS NOT MY ONLY BLOG.** full disclosure, i do have another blog over here -> dean winchester <- dean is sort of who i'm known for on tumblr and he's my longest standing character. established in 2012, dean will always be part of me! but as i've never really had more than one muse at a time i'm going to be realistic. my activity will probably flip flop from blog to blog. dean is loud and demanding but the stranger things itch was real so here we are.

i'm going to have to say that i think i'm officially just on hiatus. don't know for how long but i'm just kind of done here. i'm seeing the most immature high school style bullshit surrounding people who are in their 30s.
folks, if you're getting "anon hate" just don't engage. simple as that. don't post it. don't talk about it. don't mention it. just delete that shit and move on with your life. seriously, don't feed the trolls. all these people are looking for is attention and if you post about it, you're giving it to them.
this is all starting to feel very 2014 tumblr again and it just grosses me out. i've been struggling with these fandom spaces for a bit anyway and seeing this shit just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Verse - Steddie Dads, written with @alwaysthegdbabysitter

// I drew more of these two! Transmasc Eddie Munson with single dad Steve Harrington. I adore this verse. They're mutually pinning fools with two kids, trauma, and messy feelings and I love them. Legitimately one of my fave verses that I've written.
This particular scene is at a ball Steve's parents are hosting, where Steve invited Eddie as his plus one to avoid his mom pushing eligible bachelorettes his way. Eddie joked that he's his dragon boy for the night, guarding him from all the suitors. They just sort of kept forgetting everyone else existed, so I tried to make the scene look sort of dreamy~
so i officially finished writing all the summaries and finding quotes for my verses on my carrd. updated a lot of stuff.
and yet...
i'm still having a hard time coming back here to write. like part of me wants to and part of me is like "yeah but, effort" and man idk. i've got plenty of muse just nothing is grabbing me here. it doesn't help that 90% of the stranger things muses i used to write with have moved onto other fandoms. not that i blame them. but being here or being on dean feels a little like kicking a dead horse lately. idk.
maybe i should keep being creative for this space. i could make dean some icons. or maybe i'll write some opens. send some memes or something. i don't want to force it because then like...where's the fun? but i'm not sure what else i can do.
"You do look quite fetching in that cravat, I must say. Go on then, keep it. I'm sure you'll end up with more reason to wear it than I will, being retired and all." - Stede, happy to be a good step dad not-in-law lmao
"thank you, stede. it really is a wonderful change to feel something this soft against my skin again. ever since i ended up on the warlock i've been wearing nothing but rough linens and simple crew clothes, so this silk is an absolute dream."
he looked down at the elegant fabric, feeling a sudden, complicated pang in his chest. dressing like this again brought a heavy wave of old memories from loch nora, reminding him of strict royal duties and his father's suffocating expectations. but he quickly shook the tension away, reminding himself that the clothes don't make the man. just looking at the older man in front of him proved that. absolutely no one would ever look at stede bonnet in his bright velvets and delicate laces and expect him to be a pirate captain, yet here he was.
"honestly, looking at everything you have in here, i think you might actually have more clothing in this wardrobe than i did back home," steve added with a light chuckle, running a thumb over the fine silk. "and that's coming from a crown prince," he added, truly finding it amusing.
"i really appreciate you doing this for me. hearing eddie and ed out there on the deck trying to navigate the whole bonding thing has me a bit on edge. letting you fuss over my clothes is a very welcome distraction from all that heavy stuff."
this is a surprisingly well fleshed out character maker. i was able to give steve his throat scar and moles. and how could i resist making catboy steve lol
tagged by: no one. i stole it lol

i am STILL writing summaries for my verses page on carrd. and last night i had this awesome idea that i'd put a quote from each verse at the top of each summary. so guess who gave themselves more work? yeah. it's this guy.
at least i think it looks cool lol
it's funny because i know like NO ONE is going to bother to read all that shit but at this point it's for me. and that somehow makes it worse hahah
if Jack was being honest with himself he'd prefer to find the younger in some dark alcove than up on the roof. a habit that he was guilty of. a few of them were guilty of it. but this he could handle when it came to the other.
"please, if that's stupid then I'm a fuckin' idiot." it had been a long time since he'd walked out of a case before seeing it through. but it had happened a number of times. kids in general had gotten to him earlier in his career. it was still never fun to have to be on that side of treating kids, but he could handle it a lot better now. vets and active duty cases stuck with him the longest these days. but he wouldn't say that Steve was stupid for needing a break.
a snort leaves him as the other continues to explain himself unnecessarily, shaking his head softly.
"parents are fuckin' weird, I dunno what to tell you. panic manifests in all kinds of ways. don't get it twist," he assures the other. "not sayin' I don't get where you're coming from. it's hard being on this side of things and not expecting people to react a certain way. don't think he wasn't worried about his kids comfort, but that's our job, you know? his dad's job is to worry about everything else."
their outlook on things was a little skewed. they were focused on pain management and treating whatever was wrong. they didn't worry about what was going to happen with the patient ten years from now because it was unlikely that they were ever going to see them again. unless it was a life changing injury. but a fracture in a kid that young wasn't going to change the kid's trajectory in life that much. bones can be mended more often than not.
"needing a break isn't the end of the world. kid shouldn't need surgery, Ellis had him off to x-ray when I was coming up. probably just need a cast and some pain management. you want me to take it or do you think you'll be alright to see it through?"
he wasn't pushing them to go back downstairs, he was just trying to gauge where Steve's head was at. if it was just a need for a break or something bigger than that.
steve let out a weak, breathy chuckle at that, the sound lacking any real humor but easing the tension in his shoulders just a fraction. "somehow i have a hard time picturing you running away from a patient," he admitted, his voice still a little tight. "but it helps. knowing i'm not the only one." he dropped his chin to rest on his knees, staring blankly at the polished linoleum floor while the remaining adrenaline slowly burned out of his system.
he listened quietly as jack went on, turning the attending's words over in his head. the logical, doctor part of his brain knew that jack was right. parents were terrified in the er and it came out in messed up ways. but the kid inside of him, the one who grew up in a huge empty house with a dad who only cared about appearances, had just completely taken over the wheel for a minute.
"i know," steve muttered, rubbing a hand over his tired face. "i know you're right. it just felt way too close to home. all those expectations and looking right past the actual person." he let out a long breath, letting the quiet of the alcove settle over him for a second. he tilted his head to look at the large monstera next to him, reaching out to gently brush his fingers over one of the broad, split leaves. "did i ever tell you what my dad said when i told him i was going to be a resident here?"
the thought of hiding up here for the rest of his shift was incredibly tempting. but ellis was already swamped, and steve hated leaving his work for someone else to finish. he took a deep breath, feeling the tightness in his chest finally start to loosen its grip.
"i can finish it," he said, his voice sounding a little steadier now. "if ellis got him down to radiology, i can do the cast and handle the discharge. i just need another minute to get my head on straight and my face back in order." he finally turned his head to look fully at jack, offering a small smile that didn't quite reach his eyes yet. "thanks for not making me feel like a complete headcase. probably good i walked away. pretty sure strangling a patient's father is frowned on pretty heavily by the board."
"keep up with me?" there's a vague disbelief in his voice at the accusation. he wasn't winning any one legged races anytime soon. but the younger made it sound like he was running circles around him. at most he was just more adept at pushing through the exhaustion that had seeped into his bones decades ago and refused to leave. "you can keep your ancient peanut butter."
a snort leaves him as the other realizes his mistake. you could spend all night thinking that it was quiet or that it was slow, but no one ever dared to say it out loud. one day Steve would learn that the hard way. even more so amused when the younger downs entirely too much hot coffee in one go. sure that it burned the shit out of his tongue and throat the whole way down. and Jack couldn't imagine the heartburn he'd be suffering later.
tilting his head slightly, brows furrowed slightly at the sight of the other essentially copying him. rolling his neck against his shoulder he takes up his own coffee to partake in. and if he was watching the other while he was distracted… well that was between him and his coffee.
"you do remember where we work right? the universe is never distracted and constantly punishes us for meddling. and Lena would never take pity on us." if anything she would seek them out specifically just to mess with them. it was just how life worked around here at PTMC.
"I have two minutes of basking left. I wasn't aware you were basking in my presence as well."
steve rolled his head along the wall to look back at jack. he caught the tail end of the older man watching him but he decided not to draw attention to it or himself. "for your information, you move fast when you want to," steve pointed out, dropping his voice a little lower as he shifted to lean his elbows on his knees. "especially when there's a bad trauma rolling through the doors. i practically have to jog just to keep you in my line of sight."
he took another tiny, much more careful sip of his coffee, making sure it wasn't going to burn a second layer off the roof of his mouth. the teasing comment about basking brought a fresh wave of heat to steve's neck that he desperately hoped the dim break room lighting was hiding. he swallowed hard and winced as his scorched throat fiercely protested the movement.
"oh i'm not basking," steve lied smoothly, swirling the remaining sugary liquid around as a distraction so he didn't have to look directly at his attending. "i'm just acknowledging the fact that you finally sat down. it's a rare phenomenon, abbot. people pay good money to see things like that out in nature."
he offered a lopsided grin, trying to ignore the way his pulse picked up. jack was entirely too perceptive, and steve was operating on way too little sleep to keep his guard up effectively. "but fine. we'll say we're mutually enjoying the quiet. at least for another sixty seconds, before lena tracks us down and decides we look way too comfortable in here."
