This is going to be quite the battle! Two no-nonsense women who are the final representatives of their respective leagues. Who will come out triumphant?

Firstly, representing the Indigo League, is Lorelei! The very first Elite Four member that anyone ever faced, she comes from the Sevii Islands, where she grew up on Four Island. That's where she caught her star Pokémon, Lapras, when she was very young, and that set her off on the path of the Ice type specialist! In the Kanto games, she's unique, being the only member of the Elite Four to have a team of unique Pokémon, no repeats. Likewise, she's also the very first Elite Four member ever seen outside the league- at least while they're working in that capacity, with Lance being seen elsewhere while he's champion. She's a tough trainer, and works hard to protect her home, with that being potentially why she eventually gave up her Elite Four position, making room for Will. But for now, she's counted among the Elite Four, and can she be counted among the best?

And representing Unova, it's Caitlin! Originally seen as the head of the Battle Castle in the Generation 4 Battle Frontier, at some point, Caitlin moved to Unova to become the Psychic type Elite Four member. With this being the case, she joins Koga as the other Elite Four member to be seen in a previous Generation before they become a member of the league. While she served at the Battle Castle, she was its princess- with the impatience and demanding demeanour that fits the role. But after spending time training alone, honing her battle skills and psychic abilities that would explode out if she lost her temper, Caitlin cooled off- becoming more reserved and put together. She still has some status however, owning a villa in Undella Town that she lends to Cynthia of the Sinnoh League! Caitlin can be seen spending time with her- as do the other female members of the Unova League in the spring and summer. With her ace Gothitelle by her side, Caitlin is not someone you want to be on the wrong side of- but is that threat enough to win her the match?

Little Cup Polls: Week #63 (Gym Leader Themes)

The Pokémon series has some great tunes! Though oddly, it's a topic that this blog hasn't really touched on before, so let's start with a particularly strong area- the Gym Leader themes!

Each region has its own take on the tense music that plays when you're attempting to earn a badge, but which is your favourite? I've linked music below so you can refresh your memory if needs be! And if your favourite theme has multiple versions too, which of those is the best? let us know in the tags!

(Just a disclaimer that I won't be including any Alola themes here, since neither the Kahuna or Totem Pokémon are exactly the same as a Gym Leader, and it would be unfair to pick either one over the other, or to add both!)

Both Ice and Steel can be cold, and so can these ladies! Which of them fares the best when put up against each other?

Glacia is the aforementioned Ice specialist! The third member of the Hoenn Elite Four, Glacia has a cool, tough exterior, but has a passion for battle! She trained in a far off region and came to Hoenn, where she crushes her opponents with her star player, Walrein. In fact, she's been rather disappointed that the trainers in Hoenn aren't as tough as she'd hoped! Glacia has a fiery passion for battle you see, hot enough to burn through the cold of the Ice types she fights with- she's also been known to enjoy the heat of spicy ramen. Hot and cold all at once, will she be able to burn through her opponents and freeze them to their core?

Well, Amarys would like to say otherwise! The BB Academy Student Council President and Elite Four member uses the Steel type, with the help of her ace Metagross by her side. As befitting her position, she's serious, stoic, and by the book- but don't let that fool you into thinking she doesn't care deeply about her friends and the people around her. She's good friends with Carmine, and worried greatly about Kieran before the player helped him out. Like the rest of the BB League, she's a formidable fighter, with a team not out of place in a competitve setting! She has the upper hand here in terms of type matchup, but can she follow through with the victory?

When it comes to their demeanours, these two couldn't be more different really! But you still have to pick!

First up is Sidney, the Dark type specialist from Hoenn! The most chilled out man in his Elite Four, he's the only one of them who doesn't share a type with an Elite Four member from the Kanto games- instead he matches Karen from the Johto games! Aside from the shared type though, he's completely original, using only Hoenn native Pokémon, his team capped off with his ace, Absol. Like Lance in previous Generations, he does have a Pokémon he technically shouldn't have- at least in Ruby and Sapphire- albeit to a lesser degree. His Shiftry has a move, Extrasensory, at level 48, that it shouldn't know until level 49 at minimum! Just like a Dark type user to cheat! But there's no cheating here, he's got to win on his own!

On the other side is Molayne! Or Big Mo, if you're Sophocles. He's a man of many talents! Both a former Trial Captain and the manager of the PC system in Alola, he's had plenty of experience before joining the newly formed Elite Four (in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon anyway). A Steel type specialist, he battles the player in the original Sun and Moon as a regular trainer, but no matter his status, he's accompanied by his signature Alolan Dugtrio and its luscious locks! He's a quiet guy, but enjoys helping Sophocles with his experiments. Molayne also seems to be a friend of Professor Kukui- close enough to know about the latter's 'secret' identity, anyway! One of few characters we also have a canon height for, Molayne is a tall 6', though you wouldn't know with the way he slouches. Will his unnassuming demeanour win you over? Can he take a win in his first appearance in the tournament?

It was close, but Sidney manages to eke out a win! The Hoenn League have done well so far, let's see how he holds up in Round 3. Poor Molayne though has other work to do, as he heads home for now.
