He couldn’t remember the last day he spent sober. It was all foggy, either drunk or high, attending his classes with a dazed look, practically sleeping through every lecture, somehow by the grace of god he was just barely keeping his grades high enough to be considered passing. Tonight was a night he decided to spend in the company of strangers, or at least strangers in theory. The frequent visitors and the bartenders had gotten pretty acquainted with him over the time, knew exactly what poison to put in front of him without him mutter much of anything, and kept supplying it for the rest of the night. Though this night it was different, this night there was a familiar face sitting in the stool he normally picked. Alyssa.
They’d gotten a little better since the fight in Mexico, they texted every now and again, were friendly towards each other in the halls… but it wasn’t right, it wasn’t how it should be and no matter how much he enjoyed the company of all the girls he buried himself in to forget her, Alyssa was still always on his mind. Everything about her he missed, he couldn’t go seconds without wondering how she was, without picturing her face in his mind and wanting to kill himself for being so god damn stupid. If he had just been honest with her, if he had just told her about Jess, about his life and the situation he was stuck in he’d still have her, Alyssa would still be his; but she wasn’t. Not anymore.
He couldn’t help himself when he sat beside her, nodding in thanks at the bartender when he placed his drink in front of him, Wyatt’s hand reaching out to brush his fingers along her bare arm, missing the way she felt. When she looked up at him he gave a wary smile, her eyes sad and beautiful, muttering out to him sleepily. He wasn’t sure what to say to her, how to get her speaking to him, how to get her back, there was so much he could say, so much he wanted to say but he knew she deserved better, she deserved to be with someone who could be with her fully, for the rest of her life and die old and happy. His heart dropped when she muttered she should leave, his head shaking and hand moving to grip hers gingerly, “No you shouldn’t.”
Wyatt moved his hand to her hair now, fingers twisting the pretty blue locks between them, smile saddening some, “You look really good,” He sighed, his hand dropping to his lap, the other finding his glass, “You should stay, we can talk… catch up.” He took a sip from his drink, eyes never leaving hers as he set it back on the bar, “I miss you…”
His fingers on her skin still sent shivers down her spine, his voice quieting down the monsters that lurked in the corners of her mind at every moment of the day. It amazed her really, that he could still do that to her, that he could still cause such a reaction from her. She supposed she shouldn’t be surprised. Alyssa no longer trusted him, not fully, but she still loved him with every shattered piece of herself. Her heart stilled ached at the sight of him, even now when she’d been trying so hard to move on. Losing herself in Pearl and Damon, letting Bradley find her dates, it was almost pathetic really, how it all paled in comparison to the feeling of his hand sliding through her hair. She wanted to hit herself for being the personification of Bella Swan, swooning at his simple touch, melting at his words as he said that he missed her, forgetting what he’d done to her, the lies he told her to keep up his charade. With that thought, she let out a shaky breath, ready to tell him that she was going to leave. “You shouldn’t.” She wanted to continue, to finish the thought and say she was leaving. The words rested right at the tip of her tongue, ready to be spoken until her hazel eyes met his vibrant blue.
One drink couldn’t hurt, right? Never mind that she was already a few shots in and two tabs deep. Her legs weren’t steady anyway. She slowly slid back onto the stool, teeth worrying her bottom lip as she nodded for the bartender to get her a beer. This had been what she wanted, hadn’t it? Coming to this bar down the street from the home they once shared, knowing that Wyatt frequented it. In her drugged up haze she’d gone out of her way to see him again, and here he was. Except now she didn’t know what to do or say. They had been friends once, though even then they still slept together, they still fucked, they still acted as though they were in a relationship even though they hadn’t yet labeled it as such. Sighing, she took the beer that was placed in front of her, tipping it back and downing a few gulps of it before setting it back down and glancing back over to him. “What have you been up to?” She wanted to cringe at the question. They used to talk for hours, this was just a sad attempt at it. Plus, Alyssa was fairly sure she wasn’t interested in whatever, or whoever, he’d been doing to distract himself. “That was stupid, don’t answer that.”
