Breaking down characters for animation. Getting a warmer look, this is starting to work!
Looking for a warmer look. Since I am trying to make cooking as something that feels good, related to love and care, that is more that just a need, I felt my illustrations were a bit cold. Colour wise I think the blue wasn’t helping, since when I had decide to work with those tones I had a darker message, I have moved on on message but not on style, that is why something wasn’t really working. I think adding a wider range of warm colours is helping to achieve a friendlier look, plus adding more detail in the illustrations is also bringing a stronger sense of what a kitchen feels like. Happy moving on
Beautiful day to day hommie scenes by “Puuung”, one of the inspirations for my latests illustrations.
Looks like a kids game, haha #illustration #kitchen
Second storyboard in progress. Getting better at it, but still slow! style is evolving too!
Working on storyboard. The ending is not strong enough. somehow the denouement needs to be clever and tell the message. The more ideas I have the worse they seem..braincrash
Meet the family. Defining characters for animation. Previous sketches were more realistic, as initially I have intended having that style. Understanding a bit more of animation than when I have started I have realised I need it to simplify the style. This will not just make it more possible to achieve but I also believe that the style will match better a positive message.
Making decisions, refining the brief. Helping to understand if I am reaching my goal.

Hide&Seek | Malika Favre by Kemistry Gallery
Amazing meeting with Malika Favre! Coline, Laura and myself enjoyed a coffee while talking about illustration, style, process, tools, inspiration and commercial work. Malika have also worked in a graphic design studio focused on animation. There were so many nice tips and experiences she shared with us, BIG THANKS MALIKA! Some thoughts she shared;
-as an illustration source inspiration from things that are not related to your practice, such as architecture, fashion, nature, but to look at other illustrator’s work may not be the best to do as you may compare your style or skills and that is not precisely inspiring.
-four weeks is a short time for animation! ...(scary!)
-When I ask her what road to take with the animation, either positive or slap in the face tone, she suggested that positive messages are more likely to get people engaged while slap in the face usually makes people feel guilty and turn around. When it comes to obvious atrocities, such as violence, war etc, slap in the face is effective, but issues that tells about people’s habits and decisions are better tackled empowering with positive messages. Still, she suggested that a bit of irony or a little hint could be added nicely and be also successful within a positive tone.
All these was very helpful and helped me to make decisions, THANKS!
How might we use technology to inspire all socioeconomic and multicultural groups to lead healthier lives?
New worldwide project by open Ideo. Great challenge for everyone to participate, nutrition and food as one of the key for wellbeing. Focused on families, curious to see that is the target audience where they seem to think there is more valuable impact.
Re-think what is a kitchen space. Cooking in a positive, comfortable and fun environment. Engaged with the concept and with hand-made (everyone can do feeling) style of lettering as a friendly tone.
“Iryna Shkarovska decided to make kitchen more interesting and not so boring for food absorbing. This idea was approved, and then we started to paint. We worked afterwork time, and without the most active supporters we could not have done our job.”
A survey by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University found that teens whose families ate together frequently were less likely to use alcohol, drugs and cigarettes, something that provides myriad other benefits besides better physical and mental health. To boot, these kids tended to get better grades. Other surveys have found that children who ate frequently with their families tended to be happier with life in general.
