Lightning Appreciation Post:

There are nearly 500 lightning strikes every second around the world.

Only about 100 of these strike the earth, the others are between and within the clouds themselves.

Lightning is very visible from space (last gif from Astronaut Reid Wiseman)

Besides regular storms (thunder storms, hurricanes, etc.) lightning can be found in volcanoes (gif 3) and even intense forest fires.

In conclusion: nature is fucking awesome!

Just before nightfall I decided to take a walk outside. The sky was low, enveloping any object in its reach. It formed a dull, purplish haze - like nothing I’d seen before. The streets were empty. Not a single soul was out. It was oddly peaceful - imagining I was the only one left.

I've been waiting for Angel Olsen's album to come out since I got a TAPE of hers a few years back. (Tape? Yeah.) And now that it's out, I know it's one of those game-changer albums for me. (Widowspeak, Bat For Lashes, Beach House, First Aid Kit have all made me feel this way in the past few years. Sometimes pained & lonely, but full of beauty.)
