I Just Need Sleep

Amanda Anderson. I made it back.

“I see, I see,” Amanda nods her head. The wolf part catches her attention and she jerks her head up to him. “I feel you on that, lone.. wolf part. I know I look sick and battered up right now, but believe it or not, I look pretty similar on the regular. It’s unfortunate, really. I wish I could be a good, strong, useful hunter. I got stuck playing nurse instead,” she shrugs. She really didn’t mean to have such an intense answer, but it was late, and she wasn’t really thinking too much into what was over sharing and what wasn’t. Someone was listening to her, and she was probably just a little too excited about it. 

Amanda watches him sit himself on the floor and she frowns. “I am keeping you up, I am sorry. It’s just been a really long time since I have had any kind of.. normal conversation with someone. You don’t have to sit in here and listen to me, though, thank you for even staying this long.” She gives Charlie a small smile.

Charlie shrugged, wishing to keep the conversation a bit lighter, but relieved that she wasn’t immediately on her guard after he told her what he was. ‘’Can’t be good at everything, and to each their own i guess, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t excel in something else.’’  

While still tired, Charlie wasn’t dozing off or anything, but rather he was thinking for once without the danger of it getting dark since he wasn’t alone. ‘’No problem, plus, while i don’t mind hearing about other people’s problems, it kind of buffers my own, hell, it’s probably just me being self-destructive. So, if you don’t mind it, i’d rather stay here for a while.’’

“I am pretty good at what I do, that’s for sure. It would be just be great if it didn’t feel like I had to let my family down in the process of reaching it.” 

Amanda nods at him, “That’s fine. You could make yourself more comfortable and grab a chair, though.” The angel gives him a light smile. It didn’t exactly phase Amanda much with what he was, she had to patch up anybody that came through her doors, didn’t really matter. Unless, of course, he was a demon. That would be totally different, she would be running down the hall by now.

Once more, Eli turned his head and placed a long kiss on the side of her head. Breathing in through his nose, the man crinkled his nose. Amanda’s natural sent was nothing like the lavender that seemed to waft off Lux, but that wasn’t the cause for the distress. Amanda had been taken captive for months, in less then clean conditions. Pulling back, Eli looked down at his wife, noticing the discolorations in her skin. “You probably need your rest”, he told her still rubbing her belly. “I should go.”

Her peacefulness became disturbed and she clutched onto him. “I don’t.. I don’t want to sleep..” she whispers. Her eyes look up to his, and it takes all of her not to begin to tear up. The thought of being alone horrified her, dreams horrified her anymore. She did feel tired, exhausted. But that was all the time, that came with being pregnant, that came with being locked up and beat up on for a few months. “It’s.. It’s hard.”

“I’m sorry,” she frowns. She couldn’t imagine why any students would want to be mean to him. if anything, she’d thought there would be girls with crushes, people that thought he was the cool teacher because he was young. She had thought wrong, then. “Kids will be kids, yeah, that’s true.” Amanda rested herself on him, eyes closing. She felt tired, but his presence was too exciting. What if she woke up and he was gone, or had to go? What if she missed out on time with him just for stupid sleep? Amanda forced her eyes open, gripping his shirt. 

“Do you think it’s a boy or a girl?’ she asks him, keeping conversation.

Taking his hand, the man placed it on top of his wife’s swollen belly. They hadn’t been planning, they hadn’t been trying, they hadn’t even really talked about starting a family. But in this moment, the idea was settling better then many would have thought. Eli had always wanted a family, a close big one just like his Aunt Anna had, not anything like the one he’d grown up in. Though in his dreams, it was with Lux, he wasn’t exactly going to walk out on Amanda either. At the thought of the little pixie, he felt his heart drop. He was just starting over, moving on. For god’s sake, he asked her to marry him less then a month ago. And now here he was, with another woman, caressing their child through her taunt skin. Clearing his throat, Eli pondered her question for a moment. “Well, I don’t know”, he said with a small scoff. “You’re the one that’s spent more time with it, what do you think?”

Amanda let his shruggish attitude slide on past her, trying to keep herself feeling upbeat. "I think it's a boy," she tells him, honestly. "From all my time spent desperately bonding-"she frowns for a moment, "I think I can say it's a good 90% accurate guess." She watches his hand resting on her stomach. She felt so huge, lately. And she knew she would only get bigger. The aches and annoyances from pregnancy were enough of a pain, so all of her other bruises and cuts only added to the miserable feeling of her body. In all honesty, Amanda felt like she could be dying. But the doctors said she would heal, and she couldn't wait to just feel like her normal self again. Amanda wondered how much the clave had gotten to tell Eli, she wondered if she was prepared to really muster up a summary. Her throat suddenly tightened. She'd have to tell him about Jameson, wouldn't she?

She rested her hand over his, sighing deeply.

Amanda sat in a bed, it appeared. Well, something close to it, at least. She could feel all the usual aches and pains she felt when she had to wake up again. Waking up felt so hard lately. The only reason she even bothered to open her eyes was for the baby she carried. It was the only thing she had with her that kept her going. If she gave up, the baby would give up, and it had not even lived yet. Everything else had been pushed away, even Eli. She felt done for, good as dead, and she had been told over and over everyone had forgotten her-so much she had begun to believe it. But when she really had the chance to drink in her surroundings, the first thing out of her mouth was a scream. 

“Eli!” she yelled. Her eyes were frantic, it was hard to breathe. Was she home? Was she really home? She had dreamed it so many times before, that she would return to her husband and finally have the peace her and her baby deserved. “Eli!” she screams again, more desperately, her voice aching.

Isley was walking by the infirmary of the school, when she heard someone yell out her brother’s name. Obviously she was quite curious as to who it was, so she slowly made her way over to the door. She slowly pushed it open. The blonde looked around the room before her eyes fell on Amanda. Could it really be her? Isley closed her eyes, squeezing them shut. She hoped that when she opened them, the girl wouldn’t be the anymore. But surely she was. “Oh my god, Amanda? Is that really you?” She asked, cautiously taking a few steps closer.

Amanda watched the door open, and in came in little Isley. Amanda wasn’t sure how to feel. Her mind was going crazy, she knew she looked beat up. She wasn’t sure how Isley was going to react to her. And yet, she was glad to see Eli’s little sister. 

“Isley, it’s me,” she answers her, giving her the best smile she could manage. “Sorry if my yelling brought you here..” Amanda quickly tried to get herself under control.

STUDENT SYNOPSIS :

Born Amanda Grace Ashwood, the nephillim child was frail from her very first breath. Though she came from a lengthy line of strong shadowhunters, she never was graced with the skills for combat. And despite her sickly existence, Amanda excelled in other areas of study. Not only was she a walking encyclopedia for Runes, but she was also gifted with nursing skills. So much so that she was typically kept tucked away in the infirmary. Which was where she first developed feelings for Elliott Anderson.

To Amanda, Eli was tall, strong, and fearless. Everything she was not. Though the boy was strong, it did not spare him form injuries. And when he would limp into the dispensary bleeding, she would drop everything to patch him up. But even with her eager to bandage the smallest affliction, he continued to look over her. That was until the day his parents presented him to her as a potential bride.

Now though eager to marry the boy, Amanda was not ignorant to the fact their matrimony was anything but civil. Still, in hopes he would one day return her feelings, Amanda thought it best if at first she worked to be his friend. And after about a year of marriage, it began working. 

But like all good things in the world , it had to come to an end. One day, as Eli was attempting to help Amanda gain some strength, their field experience became a catastrophe. Quickly, they became outnumbered and separated. That was when the tiny shadowhunter was captured by demons.

Now, many, including her husband believe her to be dead. But she is much worse. Prisoner to the demons who are planning a total up-haul of the natural order, Amanda was sought after to become the surrogate mother of a half angel half demon hybrid. Little did Lemuel know, she was already with child, a nephillim child.

Elliott Anderson: In love with him form the moment she met him, Amanda would do anything for Elliott. Even accompany him on hunts for rogue downworlders, while pregnant.

“I never really did much myself, not until recently.” She returned the girl’s smile, trying her best to seem more relaxed. “But not even one? You’re quite lucky.”

“Did something happen?” Sometimes the girl asked questions when she shouldn’t, but she didn’t mean anything by it. “No nightmares that I remember at least.”

“I-well,” Amanda wasn’t sure how to answer. Yes, of course something happened. But what could she say without upsetting the clave? Was she even allowed to talk about what happened to her at all? “I was taken away for awhile, away from my husband. It wasn’t an ideal situation, I had a tough time.. adjusting.” The answer seemed appropriate enough.

“Well that doesn’t sound too pleasant,” she comments. “Do you think you’ll learn to enjoy it at all? Or is it just not your cup of tea?” She finally settled herself, two pillows on her back and another under her neck. Felt much, much better. 

His second answer wasn’t exactly happy either. Amanda almost felt guilty for even asking. “Against your will? That’s intense. Why don’t you run away or something?” She didn’t mean for it to sound sarcastic. But she knew if someone was determined enough, they’d at least attempt to get out. If it was her, she knew she’d leave. Although, Amanda was rather weak. Charlie looked like he could hold himself together. 

Charlie shrugged, not having much to add, he knew he was probably overreacting a little bit about the situation he was in, but it sure felt worse than it was. ‘’I won’t enjoy the classes anytime soon, but finding new ways to annoy the hell out of people never seems to bore me, so there’s that.’’ He chuckled, remembering some of the things he had done lately. 

Going back to more personal oriented questions, charlie’s mood turned slightly sour, starting to get a bit on his guard around her.‘’Because running away isn’t something that’ll work for me, being a lone wolf and all.’’ He answered truthfully, deciding to sit down on the floor next to her bed, since standing in his sleep deprived state wasn’t the best idea.

She looked at his smile and something flashed through her mind. Jameson, why was Jameson coming to mind? Her face seemed to freeze up, her eyes looking to the floor. “I guess the common question to ask would be, do you like it here? What brought you here?”

Amanda stopped shuffling her pillows around and just sat for a second. “Right, you’re right. It’s really just so hard to be comfortable at all when you’ve gotta this heavy weight on you.” She says it half jokingly, half completely irritated and serious. 

‘’The best answer to that would be that i’ve adjusted, doesn’t mean i enjoy being here…’’ He complained, having no idea why he bothered to tell her, perhaps it was easier to talk to strangers. ‘’I was sent here against my will, something about endangering lives,’’ Charlie shrugged, not planning on telling her the detailed version of how he had ended up here, he didn’t know her well enough for that.

‘’Of course,’’ His eyes shifting to her belly for a second in understanding, remembering the time his mother had been pregnant with his baby brother.

Amanda tried her best to get herself comfortable, to get her back to stop aching, a good position. She didn’t pay attention to what he was doing, where he was looking, but she knew he probably didn’t want to hang out with some random pregnant lady. Yet at the same time, she feared the thought of being alone again in the room. “Hi Charlie, I’m Amanda Anderson.” She smiles up at him, “you’re a student?”

‘’Yes, i’m a second year student,’’ Charlie replied to her, mimicking her smile as a way to try and be friendly and stop himself from being rude, lack of sleep usually put him in a bad mood, which often made him a danger to be around, something he gladly let others know. Noticing her constant shuffling, Charlie frowned. ‘’You know you could just stack your pillows right?’’

Then that means, baby time-ah!” Amanda is swept up and her only reaction is to grip onto him tightly and hope he doesn’t drop her. “Thank you,” she breathes out, unfolding herself onto the bed. “They know I’m in here, they send people over to check on me. My case is too permanent of a stay to take up their emergency space. Kind of like home visits, if that makes sense. There’s not much they can do for me but give me time.” She rubs her hands over her stomach, sighing. 

“By the way, what’s your name?”

‘’Good, wouldn’t want to be accused of anything,’’ Charlie said in amusement, but relieved nonetheless. There was a huge difference in his opinion when getting into trouble; you had the fun on purpose kind of trouble, and the kind wherein you did something wrong without knowing it and being called out on it afterwards. ‘’Well, the medical staff here is good at least, can’t say anything wrong about that,’’ He sighed, remembering a few patch up jobs we’d had this year alone. Considering whether he should leave or not now that she seemed alright, he looked at the door before looking back at her when she asked a question. ‘’Charlie Beaumont, how about you?’’

Amanda layed in her inferm. room. She had just woken up, and her mind was racing through the past few days she had spent back here, safe. She had to remind herself it wasn’t all a dream. She felt herself get worked up and she wasn’t sure if she was hearing things or not. But she called out anyway, “Hello? Who is there?”

Ophelia stuck her head around the doorway when she heard a voice pipe up. “Oh! Well met! Sorry, I didn’t mean to bother you.”

Amanda took a deep breath. “No you’re fine. I’m just a little.. just a little jumpy.”

“I think-” Amanda grits her teeth, trying to soak in the pain and keep herself from yelling, “I think it’s just, he’s just rolling. Or it’s an early contraction.” She manages to get it out, squinting, clearly in cramping pain. She didn’t dare to move for a few seconds. It subsided for a moment and she caught her breath. “They can start to happen this late into the pregnancy,” she explained. Another one rolled through her back and she gripped again. She hissed, looking up at him. “Could you help me back to my bed?” Amanda usually wasn’t the kind of person to easily ask for help, but she knew she could lose her balance and put herself and the baby in danger. Any small trauma was enough to set off a chain of bad events. “Please,” she added.

‘’I don’t know much about pregnancies, but i do know that contractions usually mean the baby’s decided to pop out,’’ Charlie told her in all seriousness, but with a hint of his own unique brand of humor in it. ‘’Sure, i’ll help, but just know that this helping in the middle of the night stuff is a one-time deal.’’ Thinking of how to do this without injuring her, he decided to not leave anything to chance and just carry her instead as he put one arm around her shoulders and one beneath her knees, carefully lifting her and walking towards her bed, softly putting her down. On a more serious note, he decided to offer one more suggestion. ‘’It might be smart if you don’t want to move to the infirmary to at least get a nurse here to watch over you for a while.’’
