The piano guy. It was still weird to Noah, being recognized for his music, but he had to admit that had a nice ring to it, and his grin widened a touch. But before he could answer she was speaking again, a comment turned into a rambling explanation of the sort Noah could very much relate to.Ā
āNo, I get that,ā he answered quickly, his own awkwardness slightly mitigated as he attempted to relieve some of hers.Ā āIām not really a fan of crazy concerts myself, I prefer more low-key stuff. Uh ā sometimes I play at Ithaca, thatās always a lot more chill than The Gorgon. I mean, just if you ever wanted to check me out.āĀ
Wait, that didnāt sound right. āCheck my music out, I mean.ā Noah could feel his cheeks flushing pink, a flustered laugh falling past his lips as he ducked his head to avoid her gaze. As if she even cared about coming to hear him at all, he probably sounded like a pretentious jerk.Ā
At least heād remembered her from the right place. And āĀ āWait, seriously?ā Again Noah laughed, this time amused and slightly incredulous.Ā āThatās like ā kind of evil. But in an evil-genius type way. I donāt think Iāve ever been in the shop when you were doing that, Iām pretty sure Iād remember. Oh ā Iām Noah, by the way,ā he added after a beat.Ā
āAmanda. Souza. Not that you need my full name, I guess, unless youāre about to stalk me on Google. And you donāt seem like youād do that.ā Amanda waved her hands in what she thought might be an appeasing way, hoping she didnāt sound insane. It was always difficult to tell what she should and shouldnāt say until it left her mouth and even then she sometimes didnāt realize sheād done something wrong until someone never wanted to talk to her again.Ā āI canāt be held accountable for the whole evil component. My friend Tristan works shifts with me a lot. Bad influence. Real neāer do well. Definitely has never been called a local hero or role model.ā
āMaybe Iāll check you and your music there some time. Iāve got an in at the inn; stayed there for like a month when my dad and I first moved here and were still looking at houses, and I managed to charm the owners with my signature strategy of annoying people until they Stockholm Syndrome themselves into liking me.ā
