Since I missed all the fireworks this weekend I made my own

For under $30, I scraped together a mostly stable tent-like structure for outdoor parties. (Note: fabric, curtains, candles, wine, cheese and dogs not included in price.)

I followed the rough sketch above based on what was available. For instance, I couldn’t find 90-degree elbow connectors with all three sides the same size, so I had to get 10-ft long poles to match. It ended up being 6 10-ft x 3/4-in pvc pipes and 2 10-ft x 1/2-in pvc pipes because there were only 3/4-in x 3/4-in x 1/2-in 90-degree elbows in the right shape. I also needed 4 1/2-in connectors for the 1/2-in side of the 90-degree elbows to make the 10-ft x 1/2-in pvc pipes fit.

It’s a bit flimsy, but three legs of the “tent” are outside the deck and attached to the deck railing with bungee cords. This is not permanent, but if you have old curtains and fabric laying around it’s pretty easy to put up and take down.
