Canon point: In between Saw 2 and 3, only:
* Amanda attempted to kill Adam in bathroom, couldn't do it, and released him, dropping him unconscious at a hospital
*Lynn's game occurred before Saw 2 in an attempt to prolong John's life, and she survived, was released by Amanda. Lynn's husband died however in accidental shooting by Lynn.
*Amanda has not directly killed anyone or made unwinnable traps
*Amanda has retreated from being an apprentice, now lives with Hoffman, whom she has just discovered is her half brother, and is trying to get a new life together
*Just dated Lindsey Perez and did disclose her past involvement with John after Lindsey survived a game, then broke up with her out of guilt and fear of what would happen if she stayed in Lindsey's life
Background to know:
*Amanda was born to a young mother who had an affair with Hoffman's father, but was involved with the man Amanda believed all her life to be her father. Travis Young was physically and otherwise abusive to Amanda's mother, Lisa, and out of fear Lisa told him that Amanda was his, knowing as well that Hoffman's father would not welcome or provide for another child
*Travis and Lisa were on again, off again and volatile, and both drank and used drugs. Lisa raised Amanda until she died of an overdose when Amanda was four. Amanda found her and didn't understand she was dead. Lisa was neglectful to her at times but not otherwise abusive. Amanda still has a doll Lisa gave her in her early childhood. As a little girl, Amanda would pretend it was her mother, and she named it Lisa.
*Amanda and Hoffman have a cat named Amber that Amanda lured from a cat colony with chicken nuggets. Amber is Lisa's middle name.
* Travis unwillingly raised Amanda after Lisa's death. He was physically and emotionally abusive and neglectful, and often locked Amanda in closets as punishment.
*As his addictions worsened, Travis began to sexually abuse Amanda when she was eight. At age 11 he started to "rent her" to people he owed money to or in exchange for drugs or rent buildings. They moved frequently and she missed a lot of school, never fully finished high school.
*Amanda left home at 17 and drifted into abusive relationships, in which she herself never used hard drugs but was often involved with people who did
*By age 25 she had managed to get her GED and had a decent job as a software security analyst, had started singing and playing guitar in a small rock band, and felt like her life was looking up in spite of a heroin addict boyfriend. She stripped on some weekends for extra money; unfortunately this is where she met Eric Matthews. Insulted when she turned down his solicitation for more than a lap dance, he set her up to be imprisoned for drug dealing and possession
*In prison Amanda was badly bullied and scapegoated, didn't understand the prison "rules," which ultimately led her to heroin use and addiction out of desperation. She tried many times to quit after jail but never could. Her therapy with Jill only worsened her despair rather than helping.
*Before her game she was selling herself for drugs and money
Currently:
*not in therapy but would qualify for diagnoses of complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, BPD
*Is very much wanting love, acceptance, and affection but terrified of losing it when she does get it, feels it is fake, conditional, or something she will lose for being "bad"
*Still self harms via cutting self, biting or hitting self, or scratching/picking at skin, though this has become less severe
*Struggles to feel like eating or sleeping sometimes and has nightmares very often, is now attached to Hoffman but ashamed and afraid of what this means and what it will mean for her if she loses him. Hates being alone and hates that this is now true after a life of dealing with aloneness
