Release Day +1
Hey, everyone, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who stuck with me through the rollercoaster ride that the weekend and first part of the week has been. Warbound Legacy did publish on timeāwhew!āand for most of the world, it acutally did so with the right version of the bookābigger whew! Iāll admit, I worried about it. I even considered unpublishing the book and republishingā¦
Oops, I made a really big mistake
Normally, Iād use today to announce tomorrowās release of Warbound Legacy. Iād be shouting it from the rooftops because I really, really like this book. But over the weekend, I realized Iād done something really stupid. I still donāt know how I did it. But I pulled one of the biggest mistakes of my professional writing careers. For that I owe each of you who pre-ordered the book a bigā¦
Question for Everyone
This is a repost from my Substack. The reason for this is because it is getting too difficult for me to keep up with the blog here, the Substack (which, for full disclosure, I have monetized although most of my posts are available for free), my real life commitments, and actually writing. Anyway, hereās the post: Just a quick post. The snippet will be up later todayāpromise. But for now, thereā¦
Warbound Legacy Update
There are times when real life decides you need to take a step back and deal with whatās important: family. Thatās what happened almost two weeks ago and Iām still dealing with the consequences. For a bit, things looked a bit grim, but everything is settling back to normal. Well, as normal as my life ever gets, especially when my ulcer is trying to claw its way out of my abdomen. Anyway, this isā¦
The Trouble With Cutting Corners
Unless youāve been living in a dark cave or under a rock recently, youāve seen the latest round of complaints because Amazon is once again terminating author accounts. Iām not making light of how serious this is for an author. Waking to find an email from them saying your account has been suspended or terminated is enough to send someone into a tailspin. But hereās the thing: if you havenātā¦

AI or not to AI
If you subscribe to my Substack, you should have received notification already about a post I did this morning talking about the Google app, NotebookLM. Itās an interesting program with a lot of potential, not just for research but for digging out information from previously written books in a series. Yes, there are issues with it, foremost the need to be ready to try multiple ways of writing aā¦

Amid the rain a preorder is born
Iām a day late announcing this here. I blame it on the rain. Not only is the ground a mire, but my brain is soggy. Oh, and itās raining again this morning. I know weāll want the rain in a month or so, but right now Iād give just about anything to see the sun. Anyway, Warbound Legacy is now available for preorder. Release date is July 16th. Hereās some of what I said yesterday on Substack when Iā¦

Post is delayed due to rain
The North Texas area has felt Mother Natureās wrath the last few days. Until last night, we managed to escape with just rain. That changed last night and this morning. Weāve had major rainfall, hailāhere at the house we had some that was almost the size of golf ballsāand wind, really high winds. According to the news, there are more than 500k customers without power. My front yard looks like aā¦

Memorial Day
Yesterday, FB showed me a āmemoryā from 10 years ago. It was a post Iād made about Memorial Day and how, a decade before that, I tried explaining to my then young son about the meaning of the day and its importance to our family. That explanation didnāt take place on Memorial Day itself but during a visit to Washington D.C. So today, as I sit here drinking my first cup of coffee of the day, Iāmā¦

Update to yesterday's post
This will be the short version. For the longer version of how I got here, check out this morningās Substack post. Basically, I spent much of yesterday after posting here trying to figure out the best way to list Warbound Legacy on Amazon so that readers would know it is part of the Honor & Duty universe but that it isnāt part of the main plot arc that ran for the 8 or so books of the mainā¦

When you begin the day pounding your head against the desk
That thumping sound you hear is me. Yes, Iām pounding my head against my desk. I think I might have made a dent in the surface already. Yes, itās going to be one of those days. I know there are ways around the problem but it shouldnāt be a problem in the first place. It wouldnāt be that difficult to add a line or two of code and everything would be okay. Sigh. Grrrrr. Guess I ought to start atā¦

TuggerCat update and more
Thanks to everyone here and elsewhere who crossed fingers and toes that TuggerCat was all right. Iāll admit, the little bugger had me more than a bit worried night before last and much of yesterday. Note the past tense because the only thing Iām worried about where heās concerned right now is that I donāt kill him because he is back to being constantly under footāand that is a relief. Seriously,ā¦

A Cat Tale (Tail?)
Iām slow getting started this morning and itās all because of a cat. I love cats. Always have. Thereās something about those murder floofs that calls to me. I blame my parents. I grew up in a home where we always had dogs and cats. Okay, Iāll admit it. Iām the one who first started the family with cats. I was maybe two or three when I āadoptedā an alley cat that hung out near my babysitterās. Sheā¦

To AI or not to AI
Before anyone blows a gasket, let me remind you that I have been and always will be a supporter of artists. Thatās especially true because I grew up with oneāunfortunately, I canāt draw my way out of a paper bag. With one or two exceptions, every one of my book covers have been licensed images created by artists who are considered professionals. I will always do my best to support them and theirā¦

May Update
Iāve been lax about keeping this blog up-to-date and I apologize. Part of it has been because my butt has been in chair and writing has been happening. Part has been because Iāve put some focus on getting the Substack up and running. Part has been real life commitments, some planned and others dropping in without warning. Because of that, Iām going to do a cut-and-paste from the Substack and thenā¦

The grift isn't really new
This morning, my FB feed kept showing me a link to an article about the ālatest controversyā surrounding indie publishing on Amazon. I donāt usually follow such links but this morning was different. First, it wasnāt an ad. Never, ever click on FB ads unless you want your feed filled with similar ads. Second, I knew some of the folks who were sharing the link. So I decided to see what the uproarā¦
