Small Spells for the Everyday Witch 💫
Inspired by recent discourse on spellcasting daily, I thought I'd share some of what I consider low-energy & quick spells. While I love to do ceremonial work and big rituals, what's most practical is to infuse my daily life with witchcraft. I'm sharing this to show that spell casting doesn't always need to be time & energy consuming -- many of these small spells will actually help bring energy throughout the day. 🏹
🌻 Morning altar time, with daily intention setting. For me, sometimes this goes along with a little tarot magic, like using the energy from a corresponding card to help boost that intention for my day. I'll light an electric candle on top of the card to seal my intention, and leave it "burning" for 15 minutes. If I don't have time for that, I'll just leave a quartz on it.
🌻 Protective bubble, which is an absolute necessity to me since I'm an empath. Witches can, of course, seal themselves in a bubble of whatever their intention may be, doesn't always have to be just protection. It usually takes me five-minutes to do this.
🌻 Crystal spells are a go-to. Either a grid to represent my current goal, or I'll intentionally add stones to a sachet to bring their powers with me for the day. I'll usually visualize a glowing light getting brighter and brighter in the sachet until I've added the final stone.
🌻 Charging/activating spell bottles or using pre-made powder/oil/incense depending on what's called for during the day
🌻 Whispering intention into water, or brewing it in coffee/tea
🌻 Lighting a pre-consecrated candle to aid with a mundane task, like focusing, cleaning, or even home-blessings if your day calls for it
🌻 Gratitude journaling
🌻 Even going for a walk can be a spell, letting the Earth and Air assist
I'd like to make clear, it doesn't matter how often or not you practice your craft. Yours is unique to you alone, and there are no rules other than what feels right to you.
🌙 How To Build An Altar That Feels Like Home
When I built my first altar, it looked like a sad thrift store shelf, mismatched candles, half-melted incense sticks, a chipped mug standing in for a chalice. I was so desperate for it to look witchy, like the glossy photos in books. But it didn’t feel like mine. It felt like a stranger’s stage.
It took me years, and many messy, candle-wax-soaked attempts, to realize: your altar isn’t an Instagram post. It’s a heartbeat. It’s your magic’s nest. It should feel like home, because it is one.
Here’s how I’ve learned to build an altar that breathes with you, one that feels like warm floors, familiar shadows, and the exact right hush of your spirit.
🕯️ 1. Know What An Altar Really Is
Strip away the fancy words: an altar is just a sacred spot. It’s where you gather your power and your gratitude in one place.
It can be as humble as a windowsill or as grand as a dedicated room. A shelf, a table, a box, all that matters is intention.
Think of it as a tiny crossroads: your body, your spirit, and your magic meet there. The rest is just trimmings.
🌿 2. Start With What Calls You
Forget the shopping list that says you must have a pentacle, a wand, a chalice, this and that.
Ask: what do you reach for when you feel witchiest? A candle that smells like your grandmother’s kitchen? A stone you found at the river? A jar of salt?
Your altar is not a museum. It’s a nest of meaning. Let it be ugly at first. Let it be real.
🔮 3. Give It a Heartbeat
I always tell baby witches: your altar’s alive if it changes with you.
Maybe you set it up on the floor for a spell, then move it to a shelf when you get a cat who loves knocking things over. Maybe you swap the flowers every season. Maybe you leave offerings that rot a little, because magic is not sterile.
Mine has bits of charred candle wicks, a cracked seashell, and a scrap of cloth from my mother’s apron. I clean it, but I don’t bleach it of history.
🗝️ 4. Make It a Conversation
An altar is not a monologue. You don’t just speak at it. You speak with it.
When you light a candle, linger. When you place a new object, ask it, “What do you bring here?” Listen. Maybe you rearrange things when they feel stale. Maybe you sleep with a stone under your pillow before giving it a spot on your altar, so it knows your dreams.
This is the bit the books forget to tell you: your altar listens back.
🌙 5. Protect It, But Don’t Police It
It’s good to cleanse your altar, blow off dust, pass smoke over it, ring a bell if it feels heavy.
But don’t let perfectionism be your deity. I once wasted hours agonizing over where to put a feather. It’s a feather, Nyra. Spirits don’t care if it’s center-left or right.
Your hands are sacred. Trust them.
🕸️ A Few Simple Ideas To Try
Place something that represents each element, but only if it feels real to you. A rock, a candle, a cup of water, a pinch of salt.
Add one thing that smells good. Scent ties your spirit to memory.
Leave an offering to your guides or ancestors, even if it’s just a whisper of thanks.
Keep a tiny cloth or broom nearby to sweep off old energy when needed.
🌒 A Final Whisper
Your altar is not a shrine to aesthetics, it’s a mirror for your spirit.
Build it slow. Let it shift. Let it hold your tears, your giggles, your burnt matches and hopeful wishes.
One day you’ll sit at that sacred little corner, a mug of tea in hand, and think: This is mine. And it will hum back: Yes. And I am yours.

Hi, I'm not a Hecate devotee, but I was at a spiritual store the other month and bought a few quartz and obsidian for my friend who is worships Hecate. If I gave the gifts to my friend, and she gives them to her Goddess, would that be considered a gift from me or from her? Is it appropriate to give her them? Would it be offensive?
She would love them. The intent is to honor and she will appreciate regardless of offering-its the intent to honor her that is important.
weird little brain tweak/reframing that helped me out. i Often find that advice that seemingly helps Everyone Else doesn’t make any sense to me, in ways that are hard to describe, and it can be really frustrating. but when i find a way to explain it to myself that finally seems to break through and make it click, it feels really good

Water Witching
A page out of my book of shadows
Moon Water- When talking about moon water, unless specified, often refers to full moon water. Moon water can be made under any moon phase, which ever moon phase will work best for you and your practice. Look into the properties brought out by each moon phase and and charge your water with that intent. Leave it out in the moon light and bring it back in before the sun comes up. Store it somewhere dark and out of direct sunlight. Many believe that if your moon water touches a little bit of sun light it is okay, seeing as moonlight is sunlight reflected off of the moon. It is all up to personal preference. This water can be given as offerings to deities with moon symbolism.
You can add crystal or herbs to your moon water as you see fit. Make sure the crystal you put inside the water are safe to put in the water. A good rule of thumb is that if it ends in -ite do not put it in water. This is not always the case but its better safe than sorry. Tigers Eye also can not go into water. Some crystals can release harmful chemical into your water as well. Some, when placed into water can create poisonous gas. I choose to avoid placing crystals directly into the water.
Sun Water- Sun water is used a lot more for forceful banishing and cleansing. The fiery aspect of the sun is often used for a more immediate out come. Sun water can be used to help boost energy and can be given as offerings to deities that have any symbolism around the sun. Leave water out in direct sun light for about a full day and bring it in just before sun down.
Ocean Water- This is water collected from the ocean. This water is often used for healing, cleansing and purification. Focus on the way the ocean makes you feel as you collect the water and place your intentions into the water you are gathering. This water can also be used as an offering to deities with water symbolism.
Storm Water- Not to be confused with rain water, this is water collected during a storm. This water will strengthen spells and rituals, bring confidence, charge motivation, and will help break through any rough patches. This is great for self improvement rituals and baths. Remember how the storm makes you feel while collecting the water.
Rain Water- This water is collected during a rainy day. It can be collected by placing jars or buckets outside your home. Be careful, make sure to check the laws regarding rain water collection where you live. This water is multi purpose, it is great for spells regarding growth and rebirth. It is also great for spells you wish to empower over time. When collecting the water, take a moment to sit outside, in or out of the rain based on personal preference, and think about how this rain is making you feel. The water you collect that day will be great to use in spells with similar themes to how it made you feel.
River/lake Water- This water is collected from a river or lake. It helps with spells regarding moving on from past events. This could be an ex or a past experience you wish to no longer affect you.
Snow Water- This water is collected by melting snow. Scooping snow into a jar or bucket and letting it melt is the easiest way to collect it. Always collect more than you need, once the snow melts you will be left with less water than you originally anticipated. This water is great for purity, cleansing, and purification.
Dew Water- This water is collected from the morning dew on plants. This water aids in love, fertility, and glamour magic. Washing your face with that mornings dew water with the intentions of beauty is a great, simple use.
Simple Moon Phase Chart
It can be pretty easy to get confused about moon phases, so I'm going to give y'all a little cheat sheet here. It's what I've got in my Grimoire and hasn't failed me since I've started using it. Super beginner-friendly, easy to copy, and you can adjust it to your preference as needed.
Enjoy!
The new moon: Setting new or refreshing old intentions, new beginnings, fresh starts, and trying new things.
The waxing moon: Future planning, confidence in yourself, and being sure in your actions and life steps.
The first quarter: Self-appreciation, pausing to enjoy the moments, reflection on yourself, shadow work.
The waxing gibbous moon: Being mindful of yourself and those around you, honing your skills and talents, taking actions.
The full moon: Manifestation, shadow/inner work, divination, charging magic tools/crystals/moon water.
The waning gibbous moon: Evaluating next steps, reviewing choices and options, and assessing your options/skills.
The third quarter: Releasing worries and troubles, letting hard things go, cleansing mind, body, and soul.
The waning moon: Self-love and self-care, caring for yourself and/or others, forgiving yourself, and surrendering to your next steps.
Although it may not be perfect, this is the chart that I plan m practice around and it's yet to fail me!
As always, practice in a cleansed space and always do your own research. Good luck everyone, and blessed be!

colours // their magickal correspondence
Evening fellow witchy babes!
Tonight I wanted to talk about colours and what their specific correspondences have. This is a great way to increase the effectiveness of your spellwork, rituals, meditation, divination and more! The idea behind it is to incorporate those colours into your work, this can be in the form of crystals, candles, even ribbons and decorative items! So here goes!
White: Purification, healing, regeneration, unity, blessings, increased spirituality, protection and ultimately a good colour choice if you don’t have a purpose/intent.
Black: Linked with the planet Saturn, removes negativity, unlocking, uncrossing, breaking bad habits, getting out of unwanted situations, contact for the spirits, honoring the dead.
Blue: Peace, calm, renewal, healing, protection, meditation, dream magick, job spells, weather spells, honoring the element Water, linked with the planet Jupiter.
Green: Healing, fertility, growth, sensation, abundance, money, prosperity, health, honoring the element Earth, linked with the planet Venus
Purple: Empowering, enhancing your psychic abilities, divination, dream magick, astral projection, linked to higher reals/third eye
Pink: Love, friendship, romance, peace, physical and mental health, emotional, family, heart
Red: Passion, power, sexuality, speed, good health, vigor, honoring the element Fire, linked with the planet Mars
Orange: Creativity, inspiration, attention, expression, luck, attraction, adventure, new opportunities, positivity
Yellow: Intelligence, mental clarity, communication, contacting spirits and further realms, energy, honors the element Air
Gold: Success, wealth, money, health, luck, glow, attraction, honoring the Sun, linked to the male Divine
Silver: Empowering, intuition, prophecy, lunar forces, astral projection, dream manifestation, linked with the female Divine
Sending lots of love and light.

Wearable Spell Jars
Deity Jars
The idea of spell jars is no new concept, and this may be an idea done before, but I wanted to spread it out there for the new witchlings who would like to find another way to be with their deities!
Now why the loop in these jars? This is so you can wear the jar as a necklace, attach as a keychain, or hang up somewhere! These small jars are easy to hide for witches that are still in secret, and portable! I recommend wearing them when asking for a deity’s help, as well as when you are performing actions you want to dedicate to the deity! For example, when I am gardening, I would wear or keep close my Gaea jar to dedicate it to her. This can also be applied to spirit companions!
What you need
Miniature jar with metal loop in the cork (you can put in the metal loop yourself if need be)
Objects associated with the deity
Candle (optional)- color depends on the deity; if no candle, use hot glue to seal the jar
Incense/scented spray associated with the deity (optional)
Chain/cord/thick string to thread the loop
How to make the jars
While working on the jar, light a candle in honor of the deity you are making the jar for. If you can’t, that’s ok- incense or a spray works or you can even ignore this step. Pray to your deity to let them know what you are doing. These miniature jars can be found in craft stores, with the loop already in, in the jewelry-making section. If you have trouble finding them, you can stick a thicker wire in the cork of a miniature jar and use jewelry pliers to create the loop yourself! If you do so, I do recommend bending the other end to secure the wire in. Put the anything you associate your deity with into the jar. You can put little charms, miniature objects, herbs, gem chips, and so forth! I will list a few examples/recipes of my own. What’s important is that these are items that made you think of them- found or bought doesn’t matter. When you have finished putting in the objects, put on the cork and seal the jar with the candle wax from the candle you lit. If you were unable to light a candle, some hot glue will work just fine. Let the wax/glue cool. If you lit a candle, let it burn down with the jar placed near it. Thread the jar with some thick string, chain, or leather cord. There you go, all done!
Here are a few of my own recipes:
Aphrodite Jar
1 seashell
2 apple seeds
1 rose quartz bead/chip
2 myrrh pieces
2 small jasmine flowers
A pinch of lavender
Sealed with pink candle wax
Hestia Jar
Pinch of ash (mine came from a campfire I dedicated to her)
Pinch of lavender
Magic purple basil
2 dragon’s blood resin pieces
1 jasmine blossom
2 amethyst beads
1 garnet bead
Sealed with purple candle wax
Gaea Jar
1 rose quartz bead
1 green fluorite bead
1 sandalwood bead
2 pieces myrrh resin
Lavender pinch and sprig
Magic purple basil leaves
Pinch of dirt from my garden
Sealed with green candle wax
Note: Many ways to substitute. Any crystals or stones will do. I decided to represent nature in different forms: leaves, resin, wood, flower. You can also include a root of some sort. Gaea is nature all around us, so representing her in a bottle can be very diverse.
