me holding a gun to a mushroom: tell me the name of god you fungal piece of shit
mushroom: can you feel your heart burning? can you feel the struggle within? the fear within me is beyond anything your soul can make. you cannot kill me in a way that matters
me cocking the gun, tears streaming down my face: I’M NOT FUCKING SCARED OF YOU
Hey OP? What the FUCK does this mean?
decay exists as an extant form of life
That’s a terrifying answer, have a nice day
was watching a video essay on how grim star trek is nowadays and saw some great comments.
Goddamit I did NOT sign up for emotional damage today.
I'm tired of hopefulness in media being derided as naive or childish. Cynicism is easy and frankly, lazy. Any emo teen can be cynical and jaded. Giving up is easy.
Hope is a STRENGTH.
You know how I know? Bc it's hard. It's hard and exhausting and really it would be so much easier to give up. But I don't give up on myself.
perhaps the greatest power of speculative fiction is how it imagines possibilities - rather, how it opens the reader's mind (or viewer's, or so on) to imagining how things could be different
and how, even in troubled futures, we have a future, we survived until that point
and that gets people thinking about how we get there from here
Star Trek has always been the great ray of hope, saying not only that we can survive world-shattering war, but also that we can overcome systemic greed, bigotry, and all the other harmful human traits those in power wield to hold down and stand atop the 99% of us who just want to live in a better world with our neighbors, to explore and invent and create
Star Trek says we can learn from our mistakes. it says we can change everything for the better if we decide to do so and work together to make it happen
and that kind of hope is a powerful motivator

Of all the authors I have read over the course of 50+ years, Sir Terry was the most life changing and educating. My life and the lives of those I love are the brighter and more wonderful because of his work. Where's My Cow has become a required gift to new parents in our orbit, destined to become the most chewed and loved book in their collection. It was my sons favorite for the entirety of their childhood and I have been assured should I pass on before they have children that it will be read to them as well.
Thank you so much Sir Terry, the world was a far greater place for your having visited with us for a while.
10 years gone today
The Sacrum bone of Tequixquiac, discovered in Mexico, is an ancient paleo-Indian sculpture of a canine, carved in a pleistocene-era bone of a prehistoric camel. The carving, dated around 14,000 to 7,000 BCE, is considered among the earliest pieces of art from the American continent.
The duality of man is thinking “children cannot help themselves and we all need to be patient with them as they explore what it means to be human in public” and also “damn, I wish this crying baby was not on the plane rn :/“
Just as courage is not the absence of fear but doing the brave thing in spite of it, patience is not the absence of irritation but doing the kind thing in spite of it.

there are lots of ways to interpret Lace's weird head... a bonnet, a wimple, a plush fortune cookie. But it's always looked like a kokoshnik to me, so I've turned it into one here. The designs on it are based on the ornate design flourishes found in the Citadel's architecture, and her clothes are a blend of Russian, Western European, and Central Asian influences. I'm not super sure about the lappets, but I thought it was funny to put bells on the ends instead of beads or tassels. Literally put a bell on this girl so she can't sneak up on anyone.
She looks human, but I imagine that she's still a magical silk-based construct. Kind of like how the Dimitrescu sisters from Resident Evil Village look perfectly like goth e-girls even though they're made out of swarms of flies. It's magic! Don't worry about it.
