The recall has expanded significantly. Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled Mexican-grown iceberg lettuce that was distributed in 27 states, including products sold under private-label grocery brands.
Grocery chains that have been identified as receiving affected products
    â˘Â    Walmart (including Marketside shredded lettuce products)
    â˘Â    Kroger
    â˘Â    Publix
    â˘Â    Albertsons family stores (Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls)
    â˘Â    Food Lion
    â˘Â    Meijer
    â˘Â    Hy-Vee
    â˘Â    Stop & Shop
    â˘Â    Wegmans
In addition, large food-service distributors such as Sysco and US Foods received recalled products that may have been supplied to restaurants, hospitals, schools, and cafeterias.
The products of greatest concern are:
    â˘Â    Shredded iceberg lettuce
    â˘Â    Chopped iceberg lettuce
    â˘Â    Iceberg salad mixes
    â˘Â    Some romaine/iceberg blends
    â˘Â    Store-brand (private-label) bagged lettuce made with recalled iceberg lettuce
The affected products were generally distributed from June 29 through mid-July, with use-by dates extending into early August.
Taylor Farms has stated that its branded salad kits are not part of this recall, because they do not contain the implicated iceberg lettuce.
If I were trying to minimize risk over the next couple of weeks, I would:
    â˘Â    Skip bagged shredded iceberg lettuce from any grocery store.
    â˘Â    Skip pre-made deli salads that contain iceberg lettuce.
    â˘Â    Choose whole heads of romaine, green leaf, butter lettuce, or locally grown lettuce and wash and cut them yourself.
    â˘Â    If you already have shredded iceberg lettuce and aren't sure of its source, throw it away.
