The answer to any question that ended with ‘soon’ was a word Piper absolutely detested. There was no concrete answer in that answer. Did soon mean; seconds, minutes, hours or weeks? Maybe it went so far as to mean a months or a year. Either which way, it wasn’t a word for someone of the intern’s personality to accept wholly.
Structure and order were the absolutes in Piper’s life. She had a little OCD in that sense - not that it was anything worrisome. Being such an astute individual who lived through order by schedule in her life and NOT wanting to dive into the unknown gave her a sense of comfort. As odd as it sounded. But when she was aware of what was happening it made her feel at ease that there would be no surprises. Especially when it came to her job. By no means would she EVER be slacking; that wasn’t in Piper’s personality. She was an extremely dedicated individual - maybe a little too dedicated. Yet at twenty years old and she was here already interning under a doctor, she knew it was all paying off in the end. But that was also because she wasn’t dealing with surprises and she knew what was happening.. Unlike now.
Scanning through the important material of the file for Amberly Jacobs, the intern was honestly a little annoyed with her boss. But who was she to talk back to him - unless she wanted to be reprehended. The most Piper got from her short conversation with Sebastian was that Amberly would be one of their patients and that she had a brain tumor and short term memory loss. That was literally all she knew about the patient who was apparently going to show up SOON. ‘Whenever the hell that is’ The intern scoffed in annoyance.
Who knew if the girl would even be able to find where she was going if she had short term memory loss. Piper would probably be waiting all day for her to show up only for her to just show up randomly and really irk the spitfire. God forbid that happen. It wouldn’t be pleasant for either the staff member or the patient.
The trip between Piper’s office and Sebastian’s wasn’t a relatively long walk, yet there was enough time in that frame for someone to waltz into the intern’s office without permission and just have a seat.
As the brunette who was sat in the chair turned her attention to Piper and actually deemed what the intern would call an attitude towards her because she was “late”,immediately Piper wanted to say something back; unprofessionally. Besides, there wasn’t a chance she’d remember anything tomorrow. So really, was there any need to hold her tongue back so tightly from speaking? ‘I’m late?! I didn’t even know you were showing up! And who just opens a closed door and makes themselves at home - Seriously! I can only imagine how many people you must irritate.‘ In all honesty, it was probably best she did no such thing - just in case. Instead, the intern pressed her plump cherry red lips together tightly in means of calming herself down should she say or do something she would regret. Her hazel hues took in the young female before her, taking her time in finding the right words to speak. Who knows if that girl would be easily offended or not - even though she wouldn’t remember a thing tomorrow.
“You must be Amberly Jacobs then. Sorry, I wasn’t made aware of your arrival until just a few minutes ago, nor was I informed of what time you’d be showing up today.”
The intern explained. Although she wasn’t the least bit sorry. Maybe if Amberly had waited OUTSIDE her office then Piper may have been a little less cranky. However the reality of it was, the intern hadn’t given off the best first impression considering she was late for an appointment she didn’t even have a freaking clue about!
“I have your file here but I haven’t gone through it as thoroughly as I would normally.”
Piper indicated as she held the file Sebastian had given her in her hand before strolling into her office and shutting the door behind her. She walked around the brunette to the opposite side of the desk where she took a seat in front of her and opened the file once more and looking over the information once again.
“So, from what it looks like, you have a brain tumor that doesn’t seem to growing nor shrinking. And you suffer from short term memory loss. Is there anything else health wise I need to know about?”
She asked, now turning her hazel hues from the file in front of her to the actual patient for any other clarification she was missing.
The brunette nodded at the confirmation of her name; yes, she was Amberly Jacobs, and YES; the red head should be apologizing for not being punctual. There was a flicker within the Jacobs girl that reflected bitterness just then, a high sour note that coated the inside of her mouth as she considered the fact that Dr. Ramsey had seen fit to send his intern to look after her. Wasn’t her case enough to warrant a meeting with her actual doctor? Why then had she been schluffed off to the side, as if she were the wilted spinach on a plate of ooey gooey veal parmesan? Amberly swallowed this though, steeling herself against the feeling of spite that so desperately wanted to make itself known within the confines of this ‘doctors’ tiny office, despite how the next few words out of the crimson haired woman’s lips were like gasoline to that very feeling. I haven’t gone through your file as throughly as I would normally. Well why not. Was the woman just being lazy? Simply not taking each and every case seriously like she ought to? More quiet malice tumbled within the brunette’s chest so much so that Amberly found herself needing to heave a quiet sigh in order to relinquish her desperate desire to chew Piper out.
“No. Nothing else.” She answered sharply, pursing her petal pink lips together between words to quell the vast number of insults that may very well have hurled themselves forth like some inelegant word vomit. She took another breath, this one a little more audible as she readjusted her position in the seat, quickly drawing out her notebook from the satchel that perched itself against the back of the chair. The Jacobs girl flipped the book open quickly, finding the people tab rather easily and withdrew her pen from it’s slotted position against the pages. “Though if you don’t mind I’d like to keep the tumour aspect to closed doors. I already forget most things, I don’t need the people here pitying me for that too.”
There was something about Piper, an air that she held or a vibe that Amberly could easily discern that told her she and the vixen were not so different. To the brunette, Piper was studious, intelligent, clean cut and to the point. All things Amberly was and it was this realization that had the Jacobs girl reeling back her animosity, deciding to chalk up their unfortunate first moments to hormones or something of the like. “We’re supposed to be discussing my further treatment…at least I think.”
In truth the appointment’s purpose was to determine whether or not Amberly needed more frequent boughts of chemotherapy - as well as an increase in the meds she was prescribed. The fact that the tumour wasn’t growing was miraculous - but at only two doses of chemo a month, those of which occurred bi weekly, there was a good possibility that she would be subjected to more radiation not to mention the constant shifts in medicinal cocktails she was required to toss back on the daily.
