Hello guys. I know it has been a few days since I last posted here and on the main but I have a reason behind my inactivity, as well as a sad news to break to you all. It’s pretty evident that the main has been inactive this past three days and I, being the creator of the roleplay, am very sad about the fact that I couldn’t be around much to manage the main nor to be on here as I used to since the rp opened last June. Personally, I have been busy dealing with real life things; I’m rarely at home these past few days and once I get home, all I want to do is to go straight to my bed and sleep. That being said, despite wanting to get online and manage the main and/or be active here as I used to, I simply can’t. Partly because I’m thinking about other things, which makes me distracted, and partly because I simply just don’t have the time. Next week, classes start for me and I doubt that I would be able to be here once I get busy with college, add up the fact that I’m taking a lot of classes this semester to catch up with what I didn’t, but should have taken the last time. The other lovely admins, on the other hand, have been pretty busy as well that communication through our group chat on discord has become sparse lately. Jen and Maddie both have jobs that take up their time, and we haven’t heard from Ana for awhile, so I’ll make a guess and say she’s busy with life, too, just like the rest of us. 

To cut through this short, as I am getting a bit emotional writing this, I have decided --- with the support of one of our admins --- to put MAFIASHQ to an indefinite hiatus for now. This means the main will no longer be active for sometime, and its contents removed, until the major revamp happens (which will happen, I promise you, but only after my/our schedule work out --- in case the co-admins would still want to run it with me in the near future but if they don’t, revamp will still happen as I’ve grown so attached to this rp that simply abandoning it once and for all seems rather painful to me) but you are all free to continue your storylines/interactions with other members, should you wish it. I, however, will be lurking on this account if you ever wish to contact me or talk to me but for now, both my muses here will be on hiatus as well until the roleplay gets revamped. 

There’s still much left to be done in this roleplay; so many plot drops and events in mind that never got to be played out because...life, it happens. When I started this roleplay, I had so much hope that it will be the longest and the best I’d ever run --- and it was, really. Out of all the roleplays I’ve created before, this one has been the longest I was able to run --- all thanks to the co-admins, too, who helped me run it and make it better. The members I’ve encountered since we opened last June were all great even though some have since left. The ones we have now, aka you who may be reading this lengthy note right now, are just as great and awesome that I couldn’t ask for any better members to join the roleplay. So, I’d like to take this moment to thank you all for being around and for joining this roleplay and contributing to make it a great and safe place for everyone to play their own muses. Thank you for bring such beautiful, diverse muses and for sharing us your writing.

I still can’t believe I am writing this note right now but it had to be done as I didn’t want to have to force myself to run the roleplay while I deal with life, making it a struggle for me eventually, and you guys deserve better than that. You deserve an admin who have the time to be around here most of the time (as I was during Summer time) and I, for one, can’t be that admin as of now. This may all sound like a goodbye but I promise you that it’s not permanent. MAFIASHQ will be back and hopefully when it does, it comes back better than ever and I (and the future co-admins) would be around most of the time by then to make the roleplay even more fun and enjoyable for its future members. I do hope that I’d get to see some of you guys when the revamp happens :)

For now, MAFIASHQ is signing off and I’m signing off as its admin, so are the rest of the admin team, until I find the time to fully commit to running it again and be able to revamp it in the near future. I am sorry for having to make this decision this abrupt but I do hope everyone understands why this had to be done.

“I’m sorry, but we don’t serve minors here,” Jourdan said a little louder than she usually would have. Actually, she normally wouldn’t have turned the kid away if it hadn’t been for her supervisor keenly and not so subtly watching over her during her shift. It wasn’t that Jourdan really cherished working at the institution she was currently in, but it wasn’t like she got first choice in choosing where to bartend; she needed the job. Using her eyes, the blonde tried to signal the man’s presence, but the kid clearly wasn’t picking up on her hints as he kept persisting, even sliding a few measly dollars over the bar. Unable to accept his offer and resisting from screaming in his incompetent face, Jourdan sighed in relief when she saw someone else near the bar. “Okay look, kid, I can’t help you. Besides, I have other customers to attend to.” The bartender went over a little too eagerly toward the person, resting her thin arms on the wood counter. “Please tell me that I can get you something. Anything that’ll occupy me long enough so that the sullen-looking kid over there leaves me alone.”

It wasn’t hard to pick up the gist of the conversation exchanged between the bartender and the evidently younger male sat two stools away from him, given the fact that the bartender was speaking a little too loud that others within proximity could hear what she was saying. An underage male, hoping to get a taste of liquor when he was probably a year or two away from being 21 but failing when the bartender was sticking to the protocol in order to not risk losing her job. Being a cop, it was to be expected for him to take appropriate actions if the bartender did serve the minor an alcoholic drink but seeing the look on the kid’s face, he probably would’ve felt bad for having to make the matter even bigger by emphasizing the law on his face --- and the bartender’s, too --- but thankfully, it didn’t come to that and the woman was quick to put her attention to anyone else but the kid in order to free herself of the burden. “A bit dismal, isn’t it? Having to deal with a kid who would do anything just to get his first taste of liquor while under twenty-one,” he uttered, remembering his younger self as he let out a dramatic sigh before uttering his usual order. “I’ll have an old-fashioned, on the rocks,” he says. “And please, do take your time...” leaning a bit over to the counter, his voice tones down a bit as he adds: “....at least, until the kid’s out of the premises, you know? It could be anytime now.” In truth, he could escort the younger male out, mainly because he had the authority and minors shouldn’t even be in a bar in the first place, but he wouldn’t dare add more to the already-sullen face the kid wore by having to potentially embarrass him if he escorts him out.

Vanessa breathes a sigh of relief as he opens the door. Mouth forming into a small ‘o’ at the sight of him, head shaking slightly. “You may be alive but you look like a walking corpse. What the hell happened to you out there?” She questions as she makes her way inside, small smile spreading across her lips as she notices the medical kit. She knows her supervisor won’t be happy when he realises she’s gone but she’d rather get a lecture than an invite to her friends funeral. “Actually don’t answer that, I don’t want to know. Because if I do I’ll want to go all kung fu on their ass. And I don’t look as good as you all scratched up.”

Removing her backpack the doctor rummages through her supplies, pulling out a pair of latex gloves. As she puts them on she studies his injuries. “What hurts the most? We’ll start there and work away down to the least painful. Sound good?” 

Her words. funny as they are, could only induce a small smile from him since laughter would’ve worsen the pain he was already feeling. “Please, don’t make me laugh,” he says, sounding almost like a plead, as he watched her take out her own medical supplies. “And even if I told you, I wouldn’t...” he groans, damn the wound on the back of his head and on his side. “...let you take revenge on behalf of my poor ass.” the humor came with his words effortlessly despite the pain he was going through. He’d rather keep his tolerance for pain at max than cry from the injuries he got --- not that he ever did cry in the past because them anyway.

“See this blood on the back of my neck?” He lifts a finger to point on the trickling blood from the back of his head, wincing with the movement of his arm. “Yeah, wound on the back of my head hurts like a bitch. Motherfucker somehow managed to split some skin on there,” he utters. “Maybe you can stitch that for me? Then you can tend the boo-boos.”

familiar voice snaps her out of trance, muddied orbs flickering up toward the figure. lump in her throat hard to swallow as she attempts to gain her composure, she can’t bee seen as a blubbering mess. ‘ he tried to kill me. i tried to fight him off but he had a gun. i killed him.. i just killed someone who has a family. ‘ guilt washing over her slender frame. vanessa tries to stand only to fall back onto cement, it’s only now that she realises the extent of her wounds. soft wince leaves her lips, body shivering in the crisp air.

‘ i never meant to hurt him, i just wanted to get away from him, from the trouble he brought. but there is no escaping it now.. they know. ‘ a hoarse whisper sounds. eyes blinking back the tears that threaten to spill once again down her cheeks.

shoulders at ease upon realizing who he was dealing with, a pang of sympathy washed through him once the female started explaining what happened. from the looks of it, the guy really was dead and he can only imagine how she must be feeling. after all, taking someone else’s life ---- whether it was intentional or not --- sure leaves a bitter taste in one’s mouth. “hey, shh...” he says softly, rushing to crouch right next to her; hands placed gently on her shoulders to keep her upright. “you didn’t kill him on purpose, alright?” jackson reminded as he scoured his mind of better ways to comfort her. at this point, he knew that understanding her would be the best option for him now. 

he angles her body to face him, to turn away from the dead man on the ground, as his, brows knitted upon seeing the fear and guilt reflecting on her features. “look at me,” he says, angling his head to urge their eyes to meet “that was self-defense, vanessa.” he reminds her just as he started noticing her own injuries, ones that she probably can’t feel or notice herself as guilt strikes within her. “it was either you or him, do you understand?” and he sure hope she did. “now let me help you, please. you’re bleeding and you need to be treated at once.”

   🥀  ––   ❝ if you got a look at the guys face before, you’d believe I was doing him a favor. that’s reason enough. ❞ she added dryly before accepting the cloth. grabbing the nearest drink she poured it on her knuckles before taking the handkerchief, ripping it, then continued to warp it around each hand. she did a half assed job, not too concerned at the moment. she had noticed that the club was slightly less crowded, but a few still stayed behind. tonight was a bust but cecilia couldn’t help but feel like she had at least some action.

       ❝ alright. i ain’t gonna put up a fight so you can calm ya’ tits. just don’t put the handcuffs on me because it’s a kink of mine. don’t think you want to put up with kinky cecilia, do ya’ ?? ❞ she stated with a straight face at first, but she couldn’t help but laugh at the end. no one could really handle kinky cecilia, it was an amusing thing to see though. 

         despite the circumstances, jackson found himself letting out a chuckle at her statement. she may have been saying it because she loathed the guy but he couldn’t help but somehow found the humor in it. after all, it doesn’t take much for someone to induce a laugh from him --- someone who appreciated pretty much all kinds of humor, no matter how dry some may be. “can’t be the judge of that now, can i?” he says simply, taking a swift glance behind him to see the poor guy now sat on a chair being tended by a paramedic who came with them. “poor guy didn’t realize who he was dealing with. now he’s got to deal with an almost-unrecognizable face.”

         the chuckle turned to laughter as he realized her next words and the fact that her laugh sounded contagious even to him didn’t help at all. “god, why do i always end up having to deal with you, cecilia?” jackson uttered with a shake of his head, thankful that the music in the club wasn’t turned down since it effectively drowned the sound of his laughter --- or god knows what his partner may think of him, laughing with a person in custody. “but alright, no handcuffs. just clasp your hands behind you, will you?” he says before realizing his words again. “actually, never mind. let’s go,” he adds, wincing at his words before guiding her out.

It was quiet. Almost too quiet. If it wasn’t for the fact that she was exhausted she would question the lack of people walking into the hospital. She did feel a little concerned when the nurse manager told her she could leave early. But even that brought more happiness than actual concern. Mostly because this way she could take a shower and leave the hospital fresh instead of tired. And because nobody else was done yet she had the whole changing room to herself.

The walls echoed her singing as she took a cold shower. Luckily she had some shampoo and soap in her locker. After she was done she took her time drying herself and brushing her hair. The heat of the city quickly made light and airy clothes her best friend. So she pulled on her simple white dress. And while it was a little bit too short for her taste, as it stopped around her knees, she still liked the dress. Because her apartment was pretty far away her shoes were nothing fancy. Just some light and comfy sneakers.

After she was dressed and refreshed she left the changing room. Just in time as her actual shift just ended. She said goodbye to her co-workers and with a smile she walked to the front. She talked to the bored receptionist for a bit who suddenly smiled as she ended the conversation. When she followed her gaze she met the eyes of someone she hadn’t seen in a while. A big smile broke out on her face. Until she realized where they were and she got concerned. She quickly walked over to him to inspect him to see if everything was alright with him.

‘‘Is everything alright?’‘ Penelope asked concerned even though it was obvious that there was nothing wrong with him. But that only worried her more. She gently placed her hand on his forehead to check his temperature only to find out that everything was alright. Penelope smiled in relieve but she wasn’t completely calmed down. At the moment only his words of confirmation could calm her down.

Coming to the hospital right on a Friday night was never even part of his schedule that day. It was his day off, one of those given to him simply because the PD didn’t need him around ( not when he already served and given far too much of his time for that week; way beyond how his normal shifts should last per week ) and while he usually don’t leave his house every time he had a day off, that night, he felt like he needed a change; needed to do something, to paysomeone a visit — and so, he did.

Ever since his paths collided with Penelope due to an unfortunate circumstance while in an operation with the PD, Jackson have had his eyes on the nurse who made sure he’d recover from his injuries in his 15 day stay in the hospital. Perhaps he had grown attached to her and her likable personality that even after he was discharged, Jackson felt the need to pay her a visit from time to time; to ask her how she is and make sure she’s okay. He wanted to be a friend to her but somehow, along the way, he felt as if his admiration for her have escalated so quickly, he barely had the time to realize just how much he wanted to get to know her better. Months passed and he recovered from his injuries but his will to keep his connection with the nurse intact never waned — not once, and he still continued to pay her visits at the hospital from time to time.

That night, however, his visit was rather spontaneous; unplanned, which left him suddenly uncertain of her reaction of seeing him there after such a long time of not seeing each other. Work has been hectic for him and if he wasn’t in such a rush when he swings by the hospital to escort an injured suspect in custody, he didn’t have the time to be at the hospital at all. Rarely did Jackson doubt his decisions though. Be it a small one that doesn’t include another person or a relatively bigger one that includes another person’s agreement to his idea, his confidence about a certain thing rarely falters. He was always so confident, never hesitant about pretty much anything — until he suddenly wasn’t.

Standing by the nurse’s station, partly unsure if she would even agree to his offer and partly sure that she would, the male waited for the woman to appear anytime soon as he looked at his wrist watch to check on the time yet again. Just about time for her shift to end, he thought as his left foot lightly tapped the floor. Waiting…patiently, until he looked up and met eyes with the person he was just waiting for. “Hey,” he greets, a small but genuine smile on his face before letting out a soft chuckle at the concern coating her words and her tone. “Oh, no..no, everything’s fine, Penelope,” was all he could say as the warmth of her hand was felt on his forehead. “I’m not here for a medical emergency,” he states, “but I am here for you, though. Hopefully, my memory still serves me right about the time your shift ends?”

Ophelia knew he wouldn’t turn down her challenge. In fact, she was happy to have the chance to show him the pain he had caused her with his words through her fists. Thought it wasn’t a pain that would last as long, she hoped it would be slightly fulfilling. The damage that had been done that night had lasted much longer and affected her as a person: she trusted less and guarded herself away more than before. After having loved and been humiliated in such a way, she refused to feel that way again, so she hid herself away from those closest to her. If the person who had claimed to love her and wanted to spend the rest of their lives together could leave, who is to say anyone else wouldn’t?

She knew agreeing to talk if he won was dangerous — after all, he had been the one to show her most of the moves in her arsenal. Her father had refused to help in this endeavor of hers, saying it was no place for his little girl. In reality, he had become so overprotective, he forgot to let her live most days. So O had turned to the next best thing: Bash. Of course she had continued her training after, but he had built the foundation. It had been hard to be in the gym those first few months after, the memories of them being everywhere she looked. Repression being the only way she could be here everyday and not wanting to punch the building to the ground. 

As Sebastian stood before her, Ophelia couldn’t help but take a few steps back, distance needed in the calm. She rolled her eyes at his proposition of talking during the fight. Why was he so hellbent on talking? What could he say to make anything better? She had wanted so much for any explanation in those months after, and now, as he stands before her 2 years later, that curiosity was back. Curiosity killed the cat, but it may just break Bash’s nose now. Rolling her eyes, she scoffed before speaking. “ Fine, sure, whatever, “ her words came out unamused. “ Don’t be surprised if I punch you in the mouth if I don’t like what you’re saying. “ A smirk graced her lips as she took a few more steps back, putting her weight on her back leg and extending it into a kick in Bash’s direction.

As silly as this whole idea was, Sebastian knew he really had no other choice. He knew how stubborn she was and knew that if she said something, she usually meant it and would do it without hesitation. Truth be told, he only came here to clear up some things between them --- things that has been bothering him in those two years since they fell apart and things that he learned to realize she deserved to know --- some parts of the truth he had been keeping from her, at least. Fighting, however, he does this pretty much every other day and for a living but never in an attempt to settle things with someone who refused to listen to what he had to say. How can she, really, when he waited two long years before he could gather up courage to come to her and decide to put some light into things? Why would she even welcome him or his explanations in the first place when the deed has been done and he already hurt her? 

Perhaps, he didn’t deserve her forgiveness but that wasn’t what he came here for. He wanted to let her know that the pain of their breakup had to be felt in order to keep her from something more sinister; to protect her from being tarnished and pulled into the pits of hell that was him, being involved in the mafia. Coming here was already a danger itself but of course, she didn’t know that. She didn’t know the risks he was taking by somehow associating himself with her --- the person he so wanted to protect from the dirty deeds of the mafia, but he had to take the risk. He had to come to her and to clarify things to some degree just so he could have a peace of mind and she would, hopefully, stop holding her grudge against him. It’s probably too late for that, he thought.

Sighing as he caught how half-hearted she was about responding to his words, Sebastian decided to abandon any other non-sense his mouth would utter as he knew words would be pointless as of now. The fire in her eyes could only meant one thing and that was her thirst to prove him something --- perhaps, that she could beat him and she could use her every kicks and punches as an instrument to let him know of the pain he put her through. If only she knew how he never meant to put her through all of that. But for once, he decided not to think through things a lot and just focus on the now. Already in his stance, his gaze never left her as he anticipated her moves. Her words, however, had some hint of humor in it that he found himself mirroring the smirk she had etched on her face. “Well, fine by me,” he says with a shake of his head before taking a huge step back to dodge her kick; the smirk widening a bit more when she didn’t hit any part of his body on her first attempt. “Come on, Ophelia. You can do better than that,” he taunted, walking a bit to the side and waited for her next move.

i apologize for not being around much here (and popping up like a mushroom on the main lol) these past two days. i have been pretty busy cleaning the house (i swear, our house is a mess ) as well as buying stuff for when my friends come over on sunday, as well as having to do follow-ups and submit other documents that my college has been asking for me to submit thus the reason why i haven’t been around. i was planning to do more replies tonight but i think i might just call it a night and do replies tomorrow. i will, however, be around tomorrow ! :)

that being said, if anyone’s going to read this note, i’d like to let you know that i will not be around starting august 6 since, as mentioned above, i’m going to have friends staying over for a week (i’ve known them since i was still living in my old country and since they had their internship in maine for three months, they wanted to visit me here before they go back home) so i will be on hiatus while they’re here, pretty much. i really can’t imagine myself going online while they’re around me all the time hahaha. but yeah, i will be leaving the rp and y’all in good hands (*shines  spotlight on the three beautiful admins helping me run this rp!*). before sunday, i’ll be on here as much as i can and then, i will be seeing you guys on the 13th or 14th of august c:

Hate. H a t e. If only that were the emotion stirring inside of her at the moment. Instead, her insides were all muddled up and confused. Having him this close, hearing his voice in person ( instead of through the voicemails she had saved on her phone ), it brought back the emotions she so desperately wanted to forget. Love, anger, desire, despair  — she didn’t know how to feel, and that scared her. O craved control, and not having that over herself terrified her. And because of a boy. A boy she had been foolish enough to give her heart to. She she held on to what she felt comfortable expressing: anger. 

During their relationship, she had found his persistence admirable and was one of the things that had drawn her to him in the first place. But now? In this instance? She couldn’t stand it. Why wouldn’t he just leave? It was as if she was a toy he could put away and pull out at will. She was no one’s play thing and definitely didn’t have to play by his rules. 

Her eyebrow quirked up at the raise of his voice, a sign she was getting to him. Good, she thought as a smirk adorned her face. But his gaze weighs heavy on her and quickly wipes it away. God, how she had missed his eyes. Ophelia felt challenged by his look, begging her to look away, as a fear of melting into them once more. Yet, she stared him down, a test of her resistance to the man in front of her. “ So this was your plan? To come here so we could talk?, “ hostility filling her tone. “ Unlucky for you, that’s not what this place is meant for. “ She walked past Bash towards the ring in the center of the gym. “ Fight or leave, “ O turns to look at him, a challenge in her eyes.

There weren’t many option to choose from as to how the situation could go. It was either he persists, attempting with all efforts to make her consider ever hearing his side, or he would have to leave, just like she had been wanting and urging him to do ever since he stepped foot in the place. Though the words exchange between them wasn’t much for their ‘talk’ to be even considered a proper conversation, Sebastian knew Ophelia well enough that her actions and the way she looked at him with such resistance was enough proof that if he still persisted with the ‘civilized talk’, all his efforts will go down the drain. 

Despite the circumstances, however, what Sebastian didn’t expect was for her to actually challenge him to fight her. Maybe he really was underestimating her in some way; thinking that her anger could be reasoned with or that, her resolve wasn’t as strong as her facade first showed him. Maybe he was wrong about all those because now that he was here, with her, he can tell that she was anything but impotent --- a force to be reckon with, whose anger was all that she had for him. However, a part of him still believed that it was more than just that and in some way, she was keeping her own struggles within her --- all that pertains to him, just as how he struggles to forget just how much he loved her, and that, even after all these years, he still do. 

For a moment, Sebastian remained silent, merely watching as she walked past him and onto the ring in the center of the gym. The spot where it all started --- where their story started. Just looking at it brings back so many memories that he felt as if backing off from her proposition. What more if he was in the ring with her? That might not be the brightest idea seeing as he was already conflicted on the inside. But no, Sebastian never was the type who’d back down on anything, she, of all people, knew that. And so, regaining back the confidence he lost for a moment, he began walking near the ring; removing his jacket and hanging it on one of its corner posts. “Fine,” he finally says as he halts before her with his newfound tenacity reflecting in his eyes. “You lose, we’ll talk,” Sebastian follows up as he steps into the ring. “Or we could talk and fight, how does that sound?”

Her smile grew wider when her brother finally appeared and greeted her with a smile. Most would find her annoying, even unbearable, for showing up unannounced; mainly because she did it often. But she was a spur of the moment person, never any plans and instead working on impulse. Her poor brother was used to it. She strolled in when he stepped aside and pouted slightly when she was told that she didn’t need to fight anyone. “Fine, I won’t throw any sucker punches tonight, can’t promise it won’t happen tomorrow— but luckily I have a big bro that can bail me out,” she teased as she hugged him tightly, suppressing the urge to pinch him out of sheer craziness. Her face lit up when he assured that she was indeed his favourite person. “I’m a little high but don’t tell my brother,” she hushed with a laugh, “and I spent my last cash on all of that shitty junk food and I’m going to stuff my face and probably pass out on your couch.” A sweet warning even if she’d likely pass out for an hour or two before disappearing into the night. Wasn’t that the charm of Vegas? It was a playground that never closed. “I didn’t know I was coming over, y’know the ol’ Matilda charm— how are you, Jackie boy?”

His sister’s spontaneity was one of the many things Jackson have grown quite used to over the years, especially since she came back from whichever place she stayed in in the past few years since she have grown and learned to do things on her own and in her own way. Some people may found his sister to exude such energy akin to a child, not a grown woman, and some of them may even judge her for it. But to Jackson, her every quirk and enthusiasm were also the very same things that he found particularly endearing. She reminds him of Texas, of the small suburban family that their mother and father created starting from when he was born, and of the past that can never be revisited ever again. Thus, he welcomes her with open arms every time he gets a visit from her, never mind how spontaneous the visit may be. “Behave, Tilly. Please?” Jackson jested though he probably meant the words, too. The last thing he wanted was to see his sister get into any sort of trouble. He may be part of the law enforcement but that doesn’t mean he can guarantee to save her from being put in jail if she ever found herself tangled in some crime. He hoped not; he hoped never. The smile that shaped his lips turned to a frown at her ‘confession’, not really fond of the idea of her, getting high. “Weed?” he was quick to ask, hoping that it really was weed that got her high and nothing else. “You're always welcome here, you know that right?” And he meant it, of course. “If you wanted to live with me, there’d be no discussion needed. I have two spare rooms here. You can take up one, just tell me.” Perhaps, he wanted nothing more than to have her sister around instead of worrying about her and wondering about her whereabouts from time to time. At her nickname for him, Jackson rolled his eyes. “I hate that. Stop calling me ‘Jackie boy’, Tills,” his tone may be serious but the words were merely spoken as a joke. “But I’ve been good --- been busy, as usual. How ‘bout you?” He gathers the stuff she took with her and gestures for her to follow him. “You stayin’ out of trouble, I hope?”

Despite being shorter than most men she ended up getting in a fight with, and a lot smaller than any opponent thrown at her, Esmeralda wasn’t a fan of losing. Every time she felt herself falling onto the losing side, all she was reminded of was her time spent at the unforgiving hands of those that had taken her away from her family, people that abducted a young girl just so they could gain the upper hand —— and now that she was so high up in the rankings of Los Santos, Esmeralda would be damned if she let anyone else use her as leverage against people she cared so much for. “I can be whatever type of person the situation needs me to be.” Esmeralda spoke, giving him a smirk and a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders; of course, she was talking about when she had to dumb her way down to keep up the facade that she wouldn’t hurt a fly, when in reality she knew quite a few different ways to kill someone. That situation called for her to be relaxed, but wary at the same time —- a special mix. Taking another shot at the table, Esmeralda let another ball sink into the netter hole as she heard Sebastian ask her a question that, if she didn’t know better, could be seen as him trying to hit on her. “It’s not my favourite bar of all the ones in the city but it has a good ambience if all you want to do is play a game of pool.” Esmeralda told him, letting a casual tone set down on her voice. “What about you? Do you come here a lot after getting your ass kicked?” She was joking. Maybe.

His eyebrows quirked up at the woman’s response, her words never failing to amuse him to some degree. She’s a smart woman, that’s for sure. Her every move, the way she manipulates interactions and how she deals with people ( or at least, with him ) says a lot about her character. He admired intellects and add up the fact that she’s physically strong, Sebastian knew this was no typical woman he’s conversing with --- which also makes her dangerous. Not just because she’s affiliated with the other mafia ( to hell with the damn rivalry ) but because it wasn’t everyday that he’d encounter a woman with such tenor and to think that he almost lost a fight to her pretty much says it all. “Adaptable, are you? At least, that’s smart,” and it really was --- she was, even he can see that. If a La Nostra comes in and sees him with her, they would think he was crazy for even entertaining a Lugarteniente but to him, so long as she won’t do him any harm, he’d see her as yet another woman in the bar, nothing more. But he wasn’t going to let his guard down just like that and he knew people can be fickle thus, he had to stay attentive; keep a certain boundary between the two of them so neither would fall into some sort of trap. Listening to her response, Sebastian couldn’t help but agree to it. After all, he only comes there for the same reasons as well and if he was going to be honest, there were plenty of other bars in the city that were superior than this one. He rolled his eyes at the essence of her last sentence, a half-smile playing on his lips as he turns to her. “Well, if that was the case, I wouldn’t be a regular customer here,” tone dripping humor as he spoke though he also meant the words especially since he rarely gets defeated in a fight. “And just to be clear, my ass didn’t get kicked the other night. I still won, didn’t I?” It may have been true but he also knew for a fact that she put up one hell of a fight, even he can’t deny that.

    🥀  ––   ❝ i’m sorry to burst your bubble pops but i don’t give out the pleasure of doing the dirty work to others. what’s the fun in that ?? ❞ she could have told the security guard but that would have been lame of her. she was a more do it yourself kind of gal. especially when it came to an ass whooping. boy did she love fighting. the carnage was her number one favorite thing as morbid as it definitely was. some where even good enough to get a few hits on her, but it only pushed her adrenaline further. most of the times guys were to afraid to hit a female, which was a bummer for cecilia.

        ❝ besides, that guy deserved the face beating so don’t get all high and mighty on me. ❞ she smirked, placing the cigarette between her lips. finally looking at her knuckles, cecilia laughed. it seemed the skin had split, blood drenched her hands, trickling don’t to her forearms. she wasn’t sure who’s it was, her or the unlucky fellow. her short dress wasn’t in a good state either she noticed. it had been ripped on the side, showing more then what it had originally been designed too. the sight made sissy pout. it had been one of her many, many favorites.

        perhaps, cecilia had a point. if he wasn’t a cop and he didn’t have a reputation to maintain, he probably would’ve done the same to the guy, if he really did what the female accused him of doing. he didn’t doubt her statement, though, despite the possibility that she was just saying it because the guy pissed her off. after all, men had the tendency to be such assholes and unfortunately, even jackson can never be certain as to how it could be stopped. however, no matter how much he agreed to her reasoning, he still had responsibility to do as a police officer and that responsibility must be kept. “i’m not getting all high and mighty on you, cecilia,” he says with a sigh. “just wanted to make sure your reason for smashing that guy’s face was acceptable.”

           he have yet to decide, however, since he hasn’t heard the guy’s side and there could be more to the story than the female was telling. “look, i’m not saying i don’t believe your reason but you still have to come with us at the station to sort things out,” the male finally says, glancing around the area only to realize that the crowd have finally moved on from the ‘show’ cecilia put up, before turning back to her and noticed the blood on her hands. shaking his head, jackson then pulled out a handkerchief from his  pocket and handed it to her. “here, might not be as good as a gauze but that’ll do --- saves you from staining everything you’d touch with blood,”

It was without a doubt a bad idea to walk into a supermarket with itchy fingers and the munchies. And she had sold a pair of underwear to a man earlier, so she had enough money to splurge. She wondered briefly why people didn’t take advantage of opportunities like the ones she did, but then she saw the snickers bars. Oh and the Reese’s cups. Twizzlers, Jolly Ranchers, Pixie Sticks, M&M’s and suddenly her basket was full. However, it didn’t stop her. Matilda balanced Doritos, Ben and Jerry’s and Double Stuffed Oreo’s in her arms as she made her way to the checkout. 

She yanked the door handle to see if it was open, despite knowing that regular people locked their doors, before knocking obnoxiously. “Jack, Jaaaaack, Jack!” Matilda whined, lack of patience spurring both out of boredom but because she wanted to shove everything in her two bags into her mouth. Right now. When the door finally swung open, she offered her brother a bright smile. “Surprise! It’s me, your favourite blonde and favourite person in the entire world or I will fight them. Who is it? Huh? Who’s the shithead? I’ll fucking fight them.”

After a long day at work, all that Jackson ever wanted was to be back in the comfort of his home and wallow in the refreshing cool of his house’s air condition. Summer in Vegas has usually been like this --- a hundred and twenty degrees in Fahrenheit at the peak of the day, never dropping below ninety in the evening, and spending a day out in the heat as part of his job to patrol earlier that day was never the most comfortable situation to be in as his patrol car’s air condition can never beat the heat either. Thus, when he came home, he was all too quick to hop in the shower before lazing around in his living room, turning on the tv to watch the nightly news broadcast as if he didn’t know the scoop for that day.

Just as he was in transition to falling asleep on his couch, the knocks that came from his front door jerked him awake. Who the heck would knock on his door at ten in the evening? Rubbing his eyes, Jackson stood up and headed for the door, partially opening it when he realized who the visitor was. Matilda. The frown that showed on his face due to his interrupted sleep completely changed as a smile then shaped his lips, one that he has on reserve for those who hold a special place in his heart. “Tilly,” he greets, voice soft as he spoke as he then opened his door open for his little sister. Stepping aside to let her in, Jackson could only laugh at her words; her enthusiasm never fails to induce such from him. “No need to fight anyone, little sis,” he jested before closing the door behind her and locking it once she’s in. He turns to her, eyeing the junk food she brought with her before helping her with the bags and placing them on the coffee table. Turning to Matilda, he says, “So how’s my favorite person in the world?” as he then wraps his arms around her to give her a hug, holding her for a moment before pulling away. “And why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I could’ve bought us something or cooked something for you.”

          Daniel flicked the smoldering amber end of his half-finished cigarette, ashes scattering in the wind before he took another drag. The bottoms of a pair of shined designer shoes scuffed against the concrete as he shifted in place. He thought better of leaning against the bricks, lips curling in distaste at the dirt and grime. Like HELL his suit would be ruined by that. Here, of all places. Daniel wasn’t happy to have been dragged out of his bed at such an ungodly hour; let alone knowing the torture was so he could take care of business at the fucking police department.

          Daniel’s eyes glanced to his watch as he huffed, impatient. Coffee and nicotine hadn’t worked their magic yet, and it showed in the way he blinked at the surface of the platinum-plated face. Squinted 11 AM. Almost time for the little rendezvous inside. Daniel was just about to enjoy a last taste when the door opened, the very man he was looking for stepping out into the street. Daniel cocked a brow — was jackson looking for him? EAGER? — and flashed a polite smile. He always minded his manners. ❝Officer.❞ Daniel kept the cigarette between his fingers, easing into a comfortable slouch. ❝I hope you’ve haven’t had too much trouble this morning. Such a pretty day … ❞ Daniel slid his free hand into a pocket and rocked back on his heels, not quite ready to start the day yet. ❝How about a cup of coffee before we begin?❞

             For someone who barely had enough sleep the past night, Jackson seem particularly energetic that day --- not that he ever showed his stress and exhaustion to anyone else, that is. He took a graveyard shift earlier that day and hasn’t been home since he came to work at midnight since he had to testify at court for a case tasked to him and a partner first thing after he was ‘supposed’ to get off work. But knowing himself, he never really was one who wasted opportunity to earn and to serve thus, upon being called by the chief once more after the court hearing, Jackson was back at the PD again to deal with yet another case he thought was supposed to be left closed months ago --- until it wasn’t, and was reopened once more by the department only recently.

               Todd Henderson, the late famed news-anchor who died ( or was killed ) in such odd circumstance --- a bullet in the head, one clean shot, as if the killing was planned; as if the deed was done to execute him ( and whoever they were, they succeeded since the man now lies, soul restless, beneath the ground ). But who did it? The question remains a big puzzle to everyone at the PD and the fact that no one was there to witness the murder man’s death didn’t help put the case to rest either. Months passed, it remained atop the pile of cold-cases in their office until someone provided some ‘supposed’ lead to the police and left a name that surprised everyone who have grown familiar of the name itself: Daniel Kim, the man who replaced the late Todd Henderson on the news channel. Though nothing was proven yet, because of the information they got, the police department was more than eager to question the man and Jackson, being the only officer to respond at the scene who have had experience for years now, was chosen to do the questioning. He had been told the questioning is scheduled at 11:15AM and when he realized the man in question was still nowhere to be found when there was only 15 minutes left for him to arrive, Jackson decided to step out of the building in hopes he’d find him there --- and to his relief, he did. 

              Putting on a small smile on his face, the officer approached the man and greets him back. “Mr. Kim,”  he says, giving the man a nod before he realized what he was offering. His relaxed facade took Jackson by surprise, if he was going to be honest. He dealt with people in question in the past, both declared guilty and not back then, who were too in distressed that they couldn’t even talk about the weather before it all started. At least, it was refreshing to know that Daniel was different and in some way, Jackson welcomed that. “I don’t see why not,” was his response as he halted before the man. “There’s a coffee shop down the street. We can take a walk from here?”

     🥀  ––  ❝ well if it isn’t officer friendly !! or are you officer meanie today ?? ❞ she perked up at the sight of a familiar face, but the feeling vanished as she caught sight of the guy her fist had gotten to know very well not even five minutes ago. she threw a few colorful curse words together before focusing back on jackson. popping her hip out with her arms folded in front of her, she couldn’t help but give him a look filled with potential sass. she didn’t feel the need to justify her actions but if she needed to she would definitely make it a difficult process. 

            naturally she rolled her eyes, ❝ why ya countin’ ?? I can’t help it if these assholes only think with their fuckin’ cocks. besides, he looked like he needed the gentle nudge in getting some work done to his face. i’m sure he’ll thank me later. ❞ getting slightly antsy, she pulled a cigarette out, lighting it quickly before inhaling the toxins. she did let her anger get the best of her the first couple of times and those were silly reasons as to why she started fights but tonight was different. but it didn’t matter all the same. she didn’t mind one more offense on her record.

               “it’s hard not to count when i’ve been mentioning your name a lot in my reports these days,” jackson reasoned, speaking in a less firm and more laid-back tone. cecilia sure had a different, borderline refreshing vibe around her --- at least, minus the fat that she’s far too ass-kicking, that is. he have had to deal with people like her in the past but perhaps, never within the same week and almost the same scenario. however, instead of judging her early on --- he always tries not to when having to talk to an offender -- he listens to her words, and basically caught the gist of it without any more elaborate explanation.

              watching as she lit her cigarette, jackson says: “he sexually harassed someone?” his brows immediately furrowed at the idea, never really liking it whenever he encounters such cases. still, this only proved that she threw the first punch and thus, he has to remain neutral and not pick sides without proving anything yet. “why didn’t you call for the security? i’m sure it’s part of their job to kick someone out if they’re being inappropriate or they’re doing something wrong to someone.” it may have been pointless to reason with her, judging by what’s written in her records, but jackson still had to go through the process. “why do you always always take these matters into your own hands?”

What was it about evening walks alone that were so special and yet so isolating? Evelyn quite liked just being out and about, especially when the city was always buzzing with a bright atmosphere, but tonight wasn’t about that. No tonight had been about remembrance, and praying for all that she had gained and lost. 

Holding her necklace tightly, Evelyn began walking through the park to get to where her car was parked. She knew it wasn’t right to keep hiding like this, but it also wasn’t as though anyone who knew her would understand. Going to the local mosque, when she herself was Church of England raised? It raised questions at best, and at worst, well, her only saving grace was that she was a white woman. 

Not paying attention to her surroundings as she exited the park, the young woman continued reciting prayers in her mind, begging God to keep her husband at peace. She was startled out of that prayer when she noticed loud voices, and footsteps nearing her. Wanting to stay away from any type of potential violence, she hurried towards the side street where her car was waiting. However as she turned to cross, she was jostled by someone coming her way. 

Someone particularly familiar.

“…Sebastian?!”

He probably should’ve kept his mouth shut. Hell, he should’ve never picked a fight with someone who turned out to be someone from Los Santos Perdidos and now, here he was, basically running for his life since he didn’t have a gun on him and the other guy did --- and he was being chased by death, literally a couple of strides away from him, and was in pursuit to get one of the bullets through him. In this fight, no matter how great he was with hand-to-hand combat, his skills would be of no use and so he did what any sane human would do in such situation: run. It didn’t help the fact that he had a couple of drinks that night, a couple past the bar of his alcohol tolerance, since the world around him seemed to be spinning through his eyes as he continued to run away from the man; never turning back despite his limbs screamed for help due to all the injuries he garnered from the fight early on. Fuck.

If only he had a gun on him, Sebastian wouldn’t think twice in pulling the trigger first --- not to kill, but merely to injure his pursuer just so he’d stop from pursuing him any further. But no, it so happened that he rarely brought his gun with him and because life was testing him again, he had to end up going head to head with a ruthless killer from the opposing mafia. If the guy only knew just how much Sebastian loathed the one he belongs to, he’d probably stop chasing him. But so much for wishful thinking since yet another shot was fired, missing his leg only by a few inches, and Sebastian immediately turned to the nearest curb, and another, and another --- which then lead to a parking space that barely even had any parked cars to hide behind. Great. Luckily, Bash was still a better runner than the guy and he managed to cover far more ground than the other could, losing him only for an instant, before he realizes that he wasn’t alone in the lot.

As recognition fell on the woman’s features, and so did on his, Sebastian suddenly wished his feet hadn’t taken him in the place. Now, not only was he risking his own life, but also Evelyn’s. “Eve, I---” he breathed, hand on his aching rib, one of the spots where the guy hit him from the brawl earlier --- and frantically, turns behind him to see if his pursuer was already behind him. No, thankfully...not yet. Turning to the woman, Sebastian knew he’d have no explanation for when she starts asking questions; the fact that he’s got a bleeding cut on his lip, bruises forming on his cheeks and a bleeding cut on the side of his head caused by the bottle the guy used against him and smashed when he hit him with it, didn’t help better the situation. “I’m sorry, you should----” and yet another bang was heard nearby, and a muttered curse escaped his lips. “I’m sorry, you really should go...away from here, from me.” Sure as heck, it wasn’t the perfect time to exchange ‘hellos’.
