Flip through the chapter. Look to see whatās on each page - donāt read it yet, just look at the graphs/pictures.
Go to the end of the chapter. Did they give you any practice questions or quizzes? If so, read them before you read the chapter so you know what youāre looking for. These are the most important topics.
Read the bold print. The information in the bold print (titles, subtitles, key terms) are what the author thought was important. They put it in bold! It also helps to see how theyāve broken down the information for you.
Read the first and last sentence of every paragraph. The first sentence of a paragraph is an overview of what the paragraph explains. Usually, the last sentence is designed to help you summarize the information. This gives you a quick overview of the chapter, section by section. (Remember: at this point, youāre not reading for comprehension, youāre reading to get a roadmap and determine the main points. Itās okay if you donāt understand yet!)
Read the chapter, and take notes. Now that you have a good idea of what the main ideas are, you can go through and take notes.
Why does this work? āRepetition is the mother of learning.ā Using this technique, youāre getting repeated exposure to the material and the topics that are most important. This method is slower than reading the chapter like a book, but is much more effective. Watch a video on this technique.

My last week of freshman year was hectic, so say the least⦠still canāt believe Iāve done an entire yearās worth of college. This wasnāt what my original plan was, but sometimes plans change, and your path changes, and your entire future changes, and sometimes thats okay. I donāt think everything happens for a reason, but I do think that some things just might.Ā So looking forward to whatās to come next!
