Costa Rica has now powered the entire country for more than 75 days using only renewable energy. The country hasn’t needed fossil fuel for all of 2015 thanks to hydropower and a heavy rainy season.
The nation of 5 million inhabitants also gets renewable energy contributions from a mix of solar, geothermal and wind power. More info here
Tumblr, I left you for many, many reasons. But I return now, and I’m not sure why. Let’s explore.
Anonymity is a powerful thing. It grants us the power to recreate our own image. How I see myself, and how I would like to see myself is vastly different to how other see me. When I started this blog I was granted the power of anonymity. But when I quit, I was stripped of that power.  See, people within this network know who I am. I lost the ability to be open, to recreate my outer appearance to more closely reflect the person I would like to present. This blog was, to these people, merely a window with which to look inside the inner workings of my mind. But instead of continuing along my path of openness, instead of damning the torpedoes and charging forth, I stopped.  I molded to the form that people granted me. I no longer expressed deeper thoughts. Gone were the posts about my thoughts and feelings, replaced with images from television, gifs from pokemon, and literary quotations that were “deeply relatable” or “reflective”.  I surrendered my voice.  I attempted to remedy this by creating a second blog. A space where only my own thoughts and writings were stored, under the guise of a character. I had invented a new identity, included a new name on the blog so that no one would trace it back to me. But although I sought anonymity, I carry with me a burning passion for recognition, for remembrance. When my writings and, as I look back now, cries for help and guidance fell on deaf ears, I abandoned the project. It still exists somewhere out there, where you to search. However all you’d see where the depressed ramblings of a high school student, terrified of the future and the real world.
It’s an interesting thing, to search for recognition, while simultaneously looking to escape the boxes we are put in. You see, nobody wants a versatile person anymore. Much like in Fahrenheit 451 all we seek is two-dimensional. “Flowers growing on flowers.” I chose a University, partly because it was a sound institution where I would receive the education I needed, but also because nobody would know me there. I didn’t have to be stuck in the same box I had been in. For the first time in a long time, I am decently happy. I feel generally well-liked, even if I don’t completely mix with every crowd. I have friends and places I call home. Which is nice, even if I find myself in nothing but a newer box.  It’s an intriguing thing though, to be one person to the people here, and a different person back in my hometown. Almost as if I am playing a character, and just putting down one mask to pick up another.
But I’m rambling. The point I would eventually reach if I continued this post for hours, is that maybe I should ignore that some of you know me. Maybe I should come back to this blog that was once a safe spot for me, and give up on the idea of safety. Those that know me may even be included, or the cause of some of the thoughts and feelings expressed. But maybe I should ignore that. Because sometimes we could all use a space to ramble to, regardless of who is listening.Â
I may return to tumblr yet, and I may just glance at it in passing. But that I’ve yet to decide.

Our hands-free, hyper-tethered future is well on its way! So if voice command interfacing is the wave of the future, what good is something seemingly as reductive as an input keyboard?
That was my question—and guessing I wasn’t alone—until I saw Minuum.
Finally! A black hole that you can visit and survive!
Want a trip through a black hole without having to experience that pesky death? You’re in luck. There’s a special kind of black hole that’s not just survivable, but might get you to another time, or another universe.
Black holes are, traditionally, the scariest things in the universe. Huge, mysterious, inescapable, they wander through the universe and eat everything that gets too close. “Too close” is defined by their event horizon. This is the point at which they go dark, because it requires so much energy to escape them that not even light can get away. Since not even a photon can cross the barrier, no event that happens inside the horizon can ever have an effect on people outside.
Unless, something very odd was going on in the center of the black hole. Most black holes spin - this is something that was discovered way back in the 1960s by physicist Roy Kerr. It wasn’t exactly a shock, because most of the material that collapses into a black hole was already spinning. Sometimes, however, the spin on Kerr black holes goes a little above and beyond. Ever spun a glass of water, or soda bottle, so that the liquid inside swirls? Sometimes, if you spin it enough, the liquid actually parts, leaving a clear center and a spinning ring of water around it. The same kind of thing can happen in Kerr black holes. Instead of a singularity at the center, there’s a ring. And you can go through the open portion of that ring without touching the gravitational crush.
What’s on the other side? A lot of people have wondered. Some people think that these kind of black holes might be our key to time travel. They might be wormholes that let us hop between different points of the universe. Or they might be portals to different universes entirely. First we’ll have to find a few, and then we’ll need a few volunteers to go through. Preferably ones that haven’t seen Event Horizon.
