Justine’s free spirit never let her falter after her time at Hogwarts.

She booked her ticket to Amsterdam after graduation, the first place of her many travels and she completely fell in love with it. Stop after stop she kept up with her writing, visiting places both from the muggle world and the magical world. After a few years of writing, she submitted her works on her muggle world travels to a publisher in London and they picked it up for an entire series of travel books.

Whilst traveling in Paris she met someone who was very similar to her in the most unexpected way. He had actually set off to prove his worth to his family, but then ended up finding what he loved to do and finding someone he loved as well. Justine taught him that you shouldn’t forget what makes you happy and that you should live your life the way you want to. After meeting in Paris and falling in love he joined her on her travels before enrolling in culinary school just outside London.

They were married not long after he finished his schooling and Justine submitted her magical world travel works to a wizarding world publisher. She spent several years on it as she wanted to do the magical world she loved justice. It was picked up to be published and her name was finally out there alongside her mothers in the wizarding writing community. 

Shortly after the book came out, Justine had a daughter who she loved more than the sun in the sky. About two years after her daughter was born she had a son, two bundles of joy that made her heart swell more than she ever thought it could. She swore to herself and to her little family that they would stick together no matter what obstacles came their way.

“Wonderful!” Briony grinned at her friend and took her hand, pulling her towards the place everyone was dancing. Once there, she began dancing, or more, jumping and twirling around.

Justine started to dance as they hopped on the dance floor, waving her hands about in the air. Following Briony’s lead she also began jumping up and down to the beat.

“Maybe, things are getting better already in some ways. I’m excited about getting ready for school and doing some traveling before getting serious minded.”

Justine smiled, “I’m excited too, its just knowing there’s a blank page out there that finally gets to be written on.” She said as she thought about it, “I mean I find that exciting.”

“Because people feel strange when they are sentimental,” Ethan said with a smile. “Yeah, life is strange like that.”  

He looked over at Justine as she explained what was going on with her parents. “I think that can do it. At least I hope so, because I would hate for this to have permanently destroy your family. Especially since they were both a little right.” Ethan bumped her shoulder with his own then looked up at the stars. “You’ll be there for my wedding right?”

“Do we just get used to the strangeness? Is that how it works? Is this the secret we’ll finally learn?” Justine asked with a somewhat perplexed face before she laughed a bit.

As Ethan explained she still wasn’t sure if they would get back together, “I really don’t know. I mean you’re right those thoughts have gone through my head. But they’re both the most stubborn so it may take awhile for them to reconcile. I’m going to talk to them about it, ultimately the decision is still theirs.” She said with a small shrug. “Of COURSE I will be there! Front row!” She exclaimed, “Well maybe not the front row as your families will be there, but my butt will be in one of those seats!”

“Me too,” Amelia said with a nod. “People want to forget for a little while.”

“Which is completely understandable. And I’m glad that we’re able to forget even if its just for a little, maybe it’ll remind us that soon it will get better.”

“Sometimes corny is definitely true,” Ethan said with a smile, thinking of his own feelings about Rory. “Yeah, and I managed to do it without burning bridges. Something that I wasn’t sure if it was possible.”  

He nodded his head in agreement as she talked about how strange it was to watch their classmates start laying down the paths to the rest of their lives. “It really is insane. Life is strange, isn’t it?” Ethan looked over at Justine for a moment, wondering about her parents. “You think your parents will work things out?”

“I don’t know why we call it corny if it’s almost always true.” Justine said with a grin before she nodded to her friend. “Things worked out the way they needed to.”

“It really is you know, seeing how we’ve grown and how we plan on tackling life.” The blonde said with a smile, and when Ethan asked about her parents she really didn’t know the answer. “I really don’t know.. I wish I did but after everything I’m sure there will be a lot of reconciling once they get back home. I told my dad when he was here he should go and talk to her. It’s all very unsure at the moment.”

“I don’t think anybody has. It’s been tough, but that’s why we have tonight.” Briony nodded. That was why she was being so… unlike herself in the sense she was extra-excitable tonight. “Dance with me?”

Justine laughed a bit before she nodded to Briony, “It would be my pleasure!” She said as she playfully extended her hand for her to grab.

“That’s right,” Ethan said as he thought about the last time they were up here. “I was lost as well and all over the place. We’re in a good place right now despite all that has happened.” He looked over at his friend for a moment. “Proud of you by the way for taking the time to travel and reflect before committing to something.” 

As his thoughts moved over the last two years he bit his lip. “I mean even when we look at other people. How different is Adrian? Before he was unsure and now he’s political, not to mention, wanting to become an auror. Newt was very apathetic and then he grew up to be… a very active guy too. Albert went from rather self conscious, I suppose, into a leader. Amelia is a lot less in your face than she use to be and has a scary strength. Briony growing up in big ways too…. Bethany becoming a healer…Gabi grew up too.” He paused for a moment thinking about everyone. “Rory has grown and been through so much as well. I love her more everyday for it. Luka in many ways grew up. Aidan came out of his shell a bit. Laya is just as feisty as ever, but I’ve seen her mature too. Ezra stood up for something. All of our classmates went through a journey and now we get to test ourselves.”

“I agree with that, I mean we’ve got some wounds to heal but we’ve got a lot open in front of us to go and make ours, you know? It sounds incredibly corny but it’s true.” Justine said with a nod as she looked out at the view before turning to her friend, “Thank you, I think it will be good. And I’m proud of you too, you’re going to do what you set out to do and I think that’s amazing.”

The blonde listened to Ethan as he went on about their friends, and he was absolutely right. Everyone had grown right before their eyes, grown into who they were supposed to be. “It’s crazy to see people that we’ve known since we were eleven starting their lives and making plans, it just makes me really happy. We get to go put ourselves out there.”

Briony grinned even more than she had been while dancing, and grabbed both of her hands. “Thank you! And you, will you dance too?”

Justine laughed a little bit and nodded, happy to see her housemate smiling, “I think I will!” She said with a smile, “I haven’t danced in such a long time.”

“It definitely was a worlds away,” Ethan said softly. “So many things have happened it’s amazing to think that we actually survived it.” The two of them walked up the stairs then Ethan found the secret stairwell that led up to the balcony. Once he they were there he took a deep breath in, taking in the fresh air before sitting down on the bench.   

“Well, at least we could still find it and we know that it wasn’t destroyed. All good things,” Ethan said with a smile. He patted the spot next to him, so she could join him. “Seriously, back to our old conversation. Think back at all the things we’ve been through the last two years… doesn’t it blow your mind?”

“It really is, its enough to make you wonder if it even happened. But well, of course we know it did.” Justine said as she followed him up the stairwell. She was almost overjoyed to see that it was still intact, everything that she remembered about it was the same. The view had changed a bit and so had they, but everything else was the same.

The blonde nodded to his commend as she sat down next to him, nodding as she thought about it all coming back to her in waves. “It almost seems impossible how quickly it went. We were such babies back then and now look at us.” She said gesturing between the two of them, “You’re getting married to a wonderful woman, doing WWN. I’m getting ready to galavant around for awhile. I didn’t even know what I wanted to do the last time we came up here.”

Justine smiled as she watched everyone dancing, the light hearted atmosphere seeming to bring everyone up which she was grateful for. “You looked great out there!” She laughed as she saw a friend emerge from one of the dancing crowds.

Justine stroked her thumb across her train ticket to Amsterdam before putting it back in the ticket slot for her wallet. Taking a short break from packing her things to check her list and make sure she was remembering everything, though somehow she always ended up coming home with more than she came with.

Ethan began to make his way to the balcony that Justine and himself found a couple years ago. It was strange to think that when they first found this place he was not with Rory, he was still dealing with his father, and he felt a little bit empty inside. Now he was getting married, he was applying for local radio gigs in Dublin, and he was on his way to complete his ultimate goal, working at the WWN, with his family’s support. It was quite alarming how much has changed. 

He walked onto the balcony to see Justine sitting there, giving her a smile as he joined her. “You always come prepared,” he said taking a few snacks out of the bag. “Just like old times,” he said with a chuckle. “Yet not all at the same time. I feel like in some ways we are very different kind of people.”

“I know, that’s the weirdest part isn’t it?” Justine said in agreement with his statement, “I feel like we know some more things, maybe even did a little growing up since the last time we were up there.” She said as they made their way up the staircases. “Things were very different back then.. it almost seems worlds away.” 

They reached the top of the staircases and Justine started looking around, “It was around here somewhere... right?” She asked, it had been such a long time since the last time they ventured up here she couldn’t exactly remember. She walked towards one of the paintings near the end of the staircase and pointed at it, “This looks really familiar..” She began as she started to examine it.

Justine had run into Ethan earlier that day and for some reason the thought had come across her mind of the little balcony they had found at the beginning of the year. She silently prayed that it was still there after the battle as she ran down to the kitchens to grab some snacky things for them to munch on. She did some of her best thinking up there and it would be a real shame if it was ruined. Now the blonde just hoped that she remembered how to get up there, it had been a long time.

The girl sat on one of the bench areas near the grand staircases, as that was the easiest way for them to get where they were going. She played with the knotted napkin in her hands before her eye was drawn to the tear in her jeans. The jeans were always like that but there was a new scar there from the battle, probably a scrape from some rubble or falling. In a way it symbolized the new scars they had from this old place, but she didn’t dwell on it long as Ethan approached. She smiled as she stood and showed him the snack bag, “Just like old times?”

“Yeah, there’s definitely no stopping it from coming,” Aidan agreed. “I’m more worried about it not coming in a way that I want it to.”

“It’s going to happen the way that it happens, hopefully with some consideration of how we want it to be. I guess now we just trust that fate knows what it’s doing.” Justine said as she fiddled with her sleeves.

“Students shouldn’t have to go through what we’ve gone through. And the younger years… they’re just… worse, really,” he admitted softly.

Justine nodded as she solemnly agreed with him, “That’s what I hate the most about it, they’re so young and they have been exposed to the horrors of the world. At that age you’re supposed to be blissfully unaware of that kind of thing.”
