“Oh, uh, yeah, I’m down,” Amelia said. Although this girl was probably a bit older than her, she was longing for any sense of normalcy. The last time she went to a movies, she didn’t have anybody to go with her. She hoped that this opportunity, even if it were with someone she’d only talked to during field week, was something to just get her out of her funk for a few hours.

Amelia wasn’t sure how to respond. She had plans, but now she wasn’t sure they’d come through. “I guess I’m just going to do whatever I come across. So, not really? I’m mostly just going to dance classes and drama camp and doing my summer work.”

A familiar voice startled Cassidy out of her dazed confusion and a sense of calm washed over at the sight of the other girl. A fellow new freshman was good to see. She wasn’t really close with the other girl, though they were in the same dance classes and saw each other in the hallways of FMS. In middle school, Cassidy stayed fairly popular amongst all of the drama going on at home during that fateful year of seventh grade. The young brunette didn’t necessarily have an image, she was known as the dancer. Her smile was more, a shield, a wall of confidence to protect herself from anyone attempting to get too close, to know too much about her. “Oh, really? I heard the studio’s pretty big, too. What year are your sisters in? I’m sure I can try and figure it out. It’s Amelia, right?” Cassidy reasoned, a soft, almost protective smile crossing her features.

“Oh, uh, yeah. Amelia.” She was shocked the other girl even knew her name. Amelia wasn’t known to be quiet in class, of course, but she also wasn’t known to be ‘popular.’ Since most of the girls at the studio went to Franklind Public Schools, similar interactions would happen between dance and school, with the exception of a few french terms and maybe some clothes that the school administrators probably wouldn’t find suitable for the classroom setting. Amelia nodded. “It’s huge. I’d say twice the size of a room at the studio.” Having been in there multiple times to watch her sisters and their friends made the room one of the few familiar places she had in this school so far. But, one or two was better than none at all. It made the transition easier. “My sisters actually graduated a few years ago. I’m the baby,” Amelia joked.

“Shit.” The senior swore under her breath. She’d forgotten that she had the eighth grader shadowing her the whole day. She wiped under her eyes with her knuckle, making sure not to smudge her makeup. She realized that the middle schoolers didn’t know what went on in the high school, and she didn’t want to scare the young brunette. “I’m sorry.” She offered her a small smile, reaching out for the book with her foot, sliding it back under her desk. “I mean, my mom paid for it but I don’t really want it…” She sighed, twisting the book under her feet nervously. “It hasn’t been the best year.”

“Mine hasn’t been, either.” Amelia hadn’t had the best experience at the end of eighth grade, either. Her yearbook was filled with the faces of the girls she used to know, the ones that she used to hang out with every day after school and had the best memories with. She felt as if she was at the bottom of the chain all over again. Although she knew she’d have opportunities to make friends in high school, she couldn’t help but feel as if she was forgetting something as she left Franklind Middle School, like something within her was missing. After a long pause, she decided to jump start her curiosity, just to try to lighten the mood a bit. “So, uh, this library... are you allowed to just go in whenever you want?

And I thought middle school was big, everything here is huge. Bigger, brighter and busier. Could anyone point me toward the office? I need to drop something off and this place is like a maze.

Amelia noticed Cassidy out of the corner of her eye, and almost thought about ignoring her. She had known Cassidy from dance and school, but really wasn’t close with her. Then again, Amelia wasn’t close with anyone at that moment in time. Amelia ultimately decided to help her out, considering she looked like the only one that knew the answer in that area. “It’s, um, down to the right that big hallway right there, the one with all the windows. I’m pretty sure the office is the door right before the exit. I can show you if you want. I used to come here all the time when my sisters had rehearsals.”

The last day school served as a courtesy in Cierra’s mind. Nobody really learned anything, teachers didn’t teach, and the students just goofed around with each other before parting ways for the summer. Cierra didn’t see the point, and yet, her parents basically forced her onto the bus that morning. The brunette sighed, leaning back in her chair as the teacher played some boring video about the civil war. “I swear, Mr. DeLuca is the only person in this school who still does something educational, even on the last day of school.”

“Is this all that happens here, too?” Amelia asked. as a rising freshman, she was given the chance to shadow a student for the day, to begin to meet some of the teachers and upperclassmen who would become her classmates come fall. “At the middle school, all we did at the end of the year is play card games and board games and stuff, or some teachers make us watch some stupid BrainPop video. The younger girl looked at the screen for a second, and then back down at her lap. She wondered if she would get yelled at if she took her phone out just for a few seconds, but didn’t want to ask. She already felt that she’d asked too many questions all day.

“Stupid fucking yearbook.” Daphne sighed, glancing at the words written in her yearbook, forever inscribed for years to come. “Have a good summer!” “Nice tits, D.” “Send me pics over the summer. 401-555-6287″ The blonde rolled her eyes, slamming the book shut and shoving it across her desk, watching it hit the floor with a dull thud. Hot tears pricked at her usually bright green eyes, which had more of a hazel view to them lately. She just wanted the school year to be over. She wanted to run away to Miami, as she did every year, and escape the hell hole that had become Mauve, Rhode Island. “Don’t worry about picking that up. I’m chucking it in the garbage later anyways.”

Amelia glanced over at the girl who had slammed her yearbook. The brunette had been sitting just by the room’s exit, the red blaring light fading as she put her attention back onto her phone. She didn’t want to seem like she was staring at the older girl or anything. That was weird, and people didn’t want to be friends with weird people. So, she let herself relax again, pushing her back up against the plain wall. She almost hoped the girl would say something to her, but Amelia didn’t expect her to. When the girl spoke, Amelia was startled. “But... don’t you want to remember the year and all?” the younger teen said, her voice shaking just a little as her nervous side got to her. “Plus, I thought you had to pay for yearbooks. My sisters- uh, people told me that it costs a lot at more at the high school than it does in the middle school.”

OOC Introduction

Hey, I’m Katelyn!

I’m eighteen years old and I’m from the East Coast of the United States. I’m super excited to be joining this roleplay! I’m graduation on the 12th of June, so I guess I could say that this plot is sort of relevant in my life, considering I just lived it. Anyways, I’m really into vines and ironically whipping and dabbing, so if that’s what you’re into hmu.

Now, I guess I can introduce Amelia. She’s the cutest little bean that doesn’t really understand why she isn’t as popular as she was in middle school. I’d imagine it’s because she’s so fucking caught up with the past that she can’t even think about the future. Regardless, she’s very nice, she just doesn’t exactly know when to stop herself. She’s big on dance and theatre, and in middle school she was always cast as ensemble because of her dancing abilities. I imagine her dream role being a Lovely Lady in Les Miserables or Meg Giry in Phantom of the Opera. 

As for her entrance into high school, Amelia is trying her best to keep her expectations low. She is still caught up about losing her middle school friends, to the point that she can’t bring herself to make new ones. Therefore, she’s sort of closed off in a sense and instead waiting for others to come to her, which may or may not work. Who knows? School hasn’t started yet.
