Perhaps it was just the whirlwind of the last few days, or maybe just the nerves of someone rather used to long rides in rough weather or in small aircraft, that Yukichi simply managed to doze the entire time.
Even when they landed, the first nudge on the shoulder was met with a sigh and a push. A little flick to keep them from being touched, only to slowly prop one eye open. "Les, can't you fly just a little slower, a few circles around the destination."
"I've never met someone so excited about parking." She nudges herself forward, a few taps on her thighs to get her legs moving before accepting the other's help jumping out. Sure she might operate out of plenty of odd things during rescue, but she's never really developed sea/air legs.
Cue Yukichi leaning a bit on her friend for a few paces, metal interlocking as she twists her leg a bit. "All good. Honesty, just what's got you so excited about today?"
"Heh, sorry 'bout that, Yuyu'." A sheepish tone from Lesago as he locked his aircraft. "I couldn't help myself. Walking in this lot is atrocious."
As "atrocious" as it was, though, he walked with a steady pace, with Yukichi leaning at his side, to that station up ahead. A security checkpoint, seated next to a pair of whirling tunnels of energies that Le-Korians dubbed "warpdrifts". He stopped partway as Yukichi twisted her leg, holding steady until she righted herself.
"First time I seen ya since your big Day of Awakening™! Hard not to be excited, y'know? That, and back at school you had talked about wanting to visit Mt. Kolio in person one day, so what better way to celebrate than a date up there?"
The entry line to the security checkpoint was unusually empty. "I also get to finally show you where I work!" He presented his ID to the station guard, gesturing for Yukichi to do the same.
A Fateful Date
Starter for @soulstagger's Yukichi Fuyuno
"Well, here we are!"
A two-seated civilian aircraft slowed to a steady hover as it approached a great floating island several dozen kilometers away from the both the city and the mountain of Kolio. This floating island, being a spacious parking spot for visitors to Mt. Kolio, was packed three-fourths of the way full of other such aircraft. Below the island was snow-covered mountain forest far as the average eye could see.
The day was Poday, Tahi-19th, 1048.
This aircraft's pilot, a Le-Korian named Lesago Soraumare, parked in a vacant spot close to a manned station near the edge of the island. He tapped on his passenger's shoulder - an Onu-Korian named Yukichi Fuyuno, who had completed her Journey to Awakening™ four days prior - to help her wake up after the two hour flight from Mezame to Kolio.
"Best parking spot I've nabbed in a while, too!" Lesago hopped out of the aircraft and rolled over it to the passenger side to help the more grounded Yukichi step out. "This is why Podays are the best days to visit."
She used to have one such person to rely on.
Used to.

Remilia chased Jeff through the motel, tearing through doors or phasing through walls. Spear lunging for his head, claws sweeping at his feet. Anything to catch him and rend him to shreds.
At one point, Jeff would find himself on the ceiling. The entire hallway upside down as he ran from the demon lord. Tiny hands reaching from the carpet above him, like the hands of babies. Bluish and translucent reaching down for him.
Until Remilia finally cornered him with nowhere to run. Baby hands grabbing Jeff and holding him in place. The vampire closer and closer. The corridor changing, becoming more like flesh than wood and plaster.
All that Jeff would hear next is an infant's giggle.
No answer from the Demon Lord that followed him through space time. Of course. Why would there be? She had better things to do. Like barely miss his head as she threw her demonic spears of blood at him, and swipe at his feet as he ran down yet another winding hallway for his life.
This next hallway had no end to it, though. Except when it did, and when he ran face first into it and bounced back. His zarkthanite heart pounded faster and faster as he caught himself standing on the ceiling. Right in front of the approaching Demon Lord.
He saw only one way out of this. Reaching for the floor above him, and drawing every ounce of energy he could from his veins, Jeff pulled a massive mound of solid earth out through the floor above him, and with a heaving motion, he threw it up from above at the Demon Lord before him.
But before he could confirm a hit, he was trapped. By the phantom limbs of infants passed, it appeared. He struggled to break free, as laughable as his fatigued attempt was. As fatigued as he was, though, his heart still pounded. Heavier, and heavier. The hall had twisted, winded, and turned to flesh before he even realized it. And his tormentor was approaching, undeterred by his earth wielding attack on her that...
Wait, it... missed...??
It missed?!?!
That was the last bit of energy he had left, too.
Jeff was frozen with fear.
"I'm a what now?"
Sakuya stares at Yamajin as he talks then moves to sit down on the bed as well. Remilia would have scolded her for lowering herself to the level of a prisoner, but she doesn't have to worry about that right now.
"You would be surprised. Creatures mimicking our appearances isn't uncommon here, and it's because of that I imagined you were some sort of youkai." Sakuya laughs. "I always imagined that aliens would look different, but my time here has proved me wrong. What is your world like? Is it similar to ours?"
"Aaah..." That seemed to make sense, at least. He would have to judge that on the morrow, or whenever he could catch a glimpse of other denizens of Paradise through the window during his imprisonment.
"This land of Paradise is my only experience with your home world proper... and given that it's over a thousand years in the past, it's hard to answer that in a way that I'm sure you can fully imagine."
"I only know that in my time, our nations are similar technologically to yours. Granted, your home world has the appearance of being further along, but that's probably just from how densely packed everything is on your world, even with the bigger planet."
"As an aside, it's nice to not need a translator just to talk to you here."
[[I know I'll never reach the insane heights of world building that Bionicle reached in its heyday, but I'ma shoot for those stars anyway.]]
His name Jeff, but the world must know...
What's the hobby you can most reliably see him partaking in?
...
You mean besides his hobby of building more and more "ammo and volume efficient" guns?
I am not your enemy...
...I am your way out.
"Lead, what the hell even is that dress and why are you wearing it?"
"Hah… We each got our problems, don't we? Us… well, except for Helia, believes that we've fought too much, while you believe your talents are being wasted. If we could, we'll bring you along to cut loose, but…"
Hell wouldn't like that, wouldn't they…? Specifically, they would rather have Jormungandr take care of everything instead of relying on 'outsiders'.
"But… I have to ask, since you've been in an invasion and even fought before. How did it feel? Not being in battle, but… seeing people whose lives fell by your hand. Soldiers who had families, friends, people who waited for them to go back, only for you to blow them up."
"Knowing this, do you still desire that kind of life? To fulfill what you were build for? Or would you prefer to find your own purpose… Veno?"
Even prefaced by an "If we could", the mere thought of this ragtag team of fairies bringing him along for an actual fight was, at the very least, visibly appreciated. If his one-sided smirk was any indication, anyway.
"How did it feel?"
"It felt am--"
"Not being in battle..."
"Oh." What the speedster got for answering like a speedster.
The actual question... felt heavy. Felt like it should have been heavy, rather. But why, he did not know, until after he sat up and gazed upon the lake, reflective of the night's moon.
Seven years already...
"It's... strange to realize, but the only actual soldiers I've killed were allies." A pause. "Apparently."
He continued before waiting for Leader to pry further, as he knew she would. "Training exercise, together with a childhood friend. He and I were meant to find a way to deal with seemingly endless suppressing fire. Lethal rounds, with non-lethal intent - to raise our adrenaline. A stray bullet hit my friend through the eye. I remember holding him in my arms, panicking, checking his pulse as if it mattered."
"The next few minutes after that were a blur. Still are. Brass told me I went berserk, charged through that suppressing fire without even bothering to dodge, took a few bullets through the limbs, and beat every single soldier on that end to death with only my bare hands before backup tased me into submission. Brass had the nerve to call it a case of 'Conditioning gone horribly right'. Damn if they weren't right though, look at me now."
Veno's vision turned to a blurry red. Leader could see his pupils turning red, too, for only a moment before he looked up at the night sky.
"Other than that, I only ever killed a handful of career criminals and rebels." Blue eyes once more. "Along with that demon Zaiuka and his shadow spawns, or whatever the hell it was he called them."
"I wanna fight more like him, if I can manage it, but... Oh, hell with it."
He grabbed another rock and skipped it across the lake, much like the last one he threw. Only this time it bounced back into the lake rather than into Bloody's stew.
"I'm stuck a millennium and a half in the past, I'll take what I can get."
It was as I thought. Several of the younger duelists in the neighborhood picking up those new Toon cards I tested in the sim' the other evening. They were having fun with them, as I could only assume the card makers had hoped.
Speaking of, hope was all I could do. That, and pray. Pray that none of them discovered the atrocious lines into an "instant victory" that I had found.
Also now I have a page full of links to posts/pages full of blog lore, go look at it.
Gelidan Identification Cards - Redux
(AKA I want a dedicated post to maintain info on Gelidan ID cards so that it's in sync with the Gelida Citizen Database.)
For reference, let us look at Mr. Jiphoshraton Jeff Yamajin's ID, taken straight from the database (Portrait from Picrew made by @ap4rtmnt):
Now what does all of this mean? Well, let's start by clarifying the date fields on the right of each card.
DOB: “Date of Birth.” This is tracked based on the Gelidan calendar, which has 30 hours per day, 8 days per week, 5 weeks per month, and 10 months per year. One Gelidan year is equivalent to 1.442 Terran years. The recent storyline of Gelida is set in the eighth month of the year 1049AI (“Anno Illuminatis” - In the year of enlightenment or awakening), which would be roughly in late AD 3548 on the Terran calendar. See the Calendar Overview for more info.
DOE: “Date/Day of Enlightenment.” This is the day a Gelidan travels to the Holy Temple of Awakening in Ru-Kori to receive their blessings of ability and protection from the Dark One’s Curse. These come in the form of an Activator™ - usually ring-shaped - that the Gelidan can wear, recall, and tap into for further power. The blessing of protection is a passive one.
IID: “ID Issue Date.” This is when the current version of a Gelidan’s ID card was printed and received. It is common for this to be the same as the DOE for younger Gelidans.
EXP: “Expiration Date.” The legal deadline for a Gelidan to renew their ID card. This is typically a hundred years after IID for regular citizens and ten years after IID for Elders.
Next, the non-date fields. SEX, HGT, WGT, EYES, and HAIR are more or less self-explanatory, as is PIN. The others:
EOP: “Element of Prowess.” The classical element the Gelidan is most aligned with and in control of. This typically aligns with the Gelidan’s home Kori, though it is possible for a metal wielder to reside in Ga-Kori, or for a Po-Korian to wield dust, for two examples.
BOA: “Blessing of Awakener.” An additional ability or feat granted unto each Gelidan by their Activator™ as they tap into it. The specific ability or feat is determined on receipt at the Holy Temple of Awakening™ on their Day of Enlightenment.
RUC: “Ru-Certified.” Clearance that allows a Gelidan to conduct business and enjoy extended stays in the central district of Gelida: Ru-Kori. A highly desired certification for most Gelidans. Those who play their cards right can receive this certification on the same day as their DOE.
There are also four possible stamps that can be at the bottom of each ID card. Jeff's only has one, so here is a picture of all of them for reference, taken from Elder Onuparu Yamashiro's card:
Here is what each stamp means:
HTK: “Holy Temple Keeper.” Signifies the Gelidan as having volunteered for work at the Holy Temple of Awakening or a similar place of worship or sacredness across the greater continent. Ko-Korians are the most common holders of this certification.
PHD: The stamp of the highest level of educational achievement. This is added to a Gelidan’s ID card upon receipt of diploma.
GGFF: “Global Gelidan Fighting Force.” The overarching military of the Gelidan people. This stamp is received upon completion of a year’s worth of service. Further awards are granted as appropriate and as badges worn on the person.
DONOR: Signifies that the Gelidan has volunteered to give their blood upon passing or donated blood in the past.
The Creation of Gelida
As written in Chapter 1 of the Holy Book of Zarktha
Before Gelida, there were the Forerunners. And the Forerunners were the stewards of this blessed world under our blessed blue star, both of which they had created by the power of their word.
And upon our world, the Forerunners created the beasts of the sea, the beasts of the land, and the beast of the sky. And for sustenance, the Forerunners created the plants, the trees, and all manner of foliage on the lands and in the sea.
And the Forerunners saw our world, that it was good, and they said unto one another: Let us send one of our own, to steward the land and sea, that the world may become a perfect paradise.
And so descended the Great Forerunner, whose name was Zarktha. And Zarktha stewarded the land and sea as she was instructed by her fellow Forerunner.
And to each beast, and each bird, and each fish that swam in the seas, she gave unto them a name. And unto each tree, plant, and every manner of foliage, she gave unto them a name. And by these names, the plants and beasts would come to be known to this day.
And for seven days, she stewarded the land. And upon the morning of the eight day, she looked up to her fellow Forerunners in heaven, and she said unto them, Let us create life like unto ourselves - yea, sons and daughters, that they may have stewardship over our world, by our guidance.
And unto Zarktha was given the power to create life like unto our Forerunners. And Zarktha said, Let this world be a great civilization for all the stars to see! Let this world be filled from north to south, from east to west, with life like unto us! And in but two generations' time, it was so.
And they were called Zarkthanites, being the children of the Great Forerunner Zarktha.
And Zarktha taught her children - rather, Zarktha taught our ancestors - to steward the world as she had before, that it may be the bountiful paradise envisioned by the Forerunners. And in but two generations' time, it was so.
And Zarktha taught our ancestors further, saying unto them, Be united with one another and this world, and be dutiful to one another and this world. Create great wonders, be a great nation, and replenish the lands. Do this, and it shall come to be that your destiny lies with us, the Great Forerunners from whom you came to be.
For we have other worlds that you know not, over which we remain stewards. And we must return to our stewardship over them. But be ye not afraid, for unto thee we will leave gifts of great and sacred power, that when times of great strife arise, ye shall not fall to eternal darkness, but shall remain in the everlasting light of paradise.
And ye shall use these great gifts, calling upon our names, whether the smallest shadow of evil looms over thy heads, or when the darkest times of all threaten to swallow you whole.
Nevertheless, fear not, for the Forerunners will always have their watchful eye over thee, and we shall not suffer that thou, our children, shall dwindle and perish in darkness.
And it came to pass that after Zarktha had said these things, the gifts of great and sacred power of which she spoke fell from the heavens where the Forerunners resided, and great was their mighty and sacred impact. But hidden still were these sacred gifts, for by the words of Zarktha, they would arise only during our darkest hours.
And Zarktha, still having more with which to bless us her children before her departure, left unto our ancestors the power to control the very elements of the world, after a similitude to the way in which the Forerunners controled these elements. And after the manner of Zarktha did our ancestors shape the land into a paradise in which our Forerunners were well pleased.
And in but two more generations' time we built great cities and nations upon Gelida, the manner of which our Forerunners were well pleased.
And in but six more generations' time, a great and terrible beast of darkness descended from the sky. And fiery was his descent, and great was the destruction left by his impact.
