The Plague That Stained Her Soul
Starter for @soulstagger's Celune
The Misty Lake of Gensokyo. For Emily Gates, it was the most familiar sight of the whole land of fantasy, and thus it was her point of reentry into the land from the distant future. As the blue portal vanished behind her, rather than tarry by the lake lit by the waxing crescent moon in the midnight sky, the foreign ginger-haired woman made her way through the forest behind her.
She peeked at her watch, a photo of a flowing river shrouded in mist projected from it. Facepalming, she returned to the lake before checking each of the rivers that led into and out of it. No mist, unlike the lake. She turned to tread through the forest before remembering her previous time in such a forest, tapping her ankles to equip her suit and leap into the sky in search of a mist shrouded river. She flew to it the moment she saw it, narrowly avoiding one of many nightly battles to the death between two prominent immortals in the land.
Gates landed by the riverside closer to her and retracted her suit with another ankle tap. She shined a bright blue light upon the river. Eerily calm for a river, and shrouded in enough mist to block visibility of the other side. Just as her photo depicted. This was it - the Sanzu-no-Kawa, where a woman named Celune resided according to the data provided to her from a briefly reborn foe.
After powering down her watch, she felt a red twinge in her left hand, which she clutched while looking around her side of the river for anyone to talk to - either Celune or one who could lead her to them.
She found a figure closed by and approached them with caution, left hand still clutched.
"Pardon me," she called to the figure once she had clearer visual. "Do you happen to be Celune, by chance?"
