At what point do they stop answering 'It's not possible' when she begs them to come back, to remember.
At what point do they start asking, if she truly does care for them this much...
'Why won't you fall with us?'
I am filled with motivation.
@soulstagger Say no more.
I'm still scheming doing incredible damage to my poor girl Flavia.
btw am playing nightreign with friends here atm.
"Am I being punished...why can't I ever find them.. Crush, Pierce.. why does your warmth always feel so far away. Why can't I replicate the feeling you give..."
A Moose in the forest should never be this lost, this is why we got Lyrataros with us.
Anyways I have the will and reason to live until December, till then I will be unstoppable again.
.....!!?!
This is so funny and so amazing that I'm so fucking excited.
"A slime girl? How very interesting. I've encountered some strange stuff but never nothing that was made of slime. Well, I do think I heard once about another mythborn fighting a shoggoth on a roof somewhere, so I guess they must ex-"
He was rambling along with enthusiasm as Charlotte continued to speak. Until she spoke on the year that she was from. A sudden gasp as that struck him off guard.
"3500!? That's over a thousand years from now! No wonder you're so cool. I can't even imagine the kind of augs that they've got in your time. You said your one mom was made of energy, huh? So that's gotta be some sort of hyper advanced nanomachines? Oh or some sort of biomod beyond anything that's ever existed now maybe?"
He wants to speculate but can only go so far. Rei's family were the ones to go to for an actual understanding of how these things work. Really the only implants that he has are the ones in his legs. They are advanced, yeah, but it's not like he was the one who had them installed.
"Oh yeah, of course I'll show ya, come on! No spoilers but it's a big ol' store, so I'm sure they've got a place for ice cream in it."
It wasn't that long of a train ride from Taito to Shibuya. Though Enji did take the time to point out the different sites as they rode along. The sky scrapers of Shinjuku, The Meiji shrine at Harujuka, Takeshita street. Eventually they've stopped in Shibuya and Enji is hurrying with his new friend towards the 109 building.
The massive round department store fascinated Enji so much. So many different shops and the big brimming 109 sign. It was his favorite landmark by far.
"Akari and I's last job went really well so I've got some extra cash. I'll buy you a few souvenirs to remember this year by! Don't worry I'll get you more desert too!"
"Hmm? Augs? Maybe! A thousand years, the focus might have changed. My Mum is augmented, though I could hardly notice. But my Mom! Zak'yanna! She's an ancient energy being from another galaxy. My Mum went to war there to battle an evil witch and other scary things, though they managed to destroy the greatest of evils there, we still don't know what happened after."
Charlotte's response is long winded but she doesn't seem worried about sharing all this information. A smile on her face, she clearly enjoys talking about her Mothers. Like they're her personal heroes, "Mom was as old as the ancient, a species that became pure energy and watched over the galaxy before leaving. She was the last one."
"I want to be a hero like them, face the greatest terror and bring peace to even just a city. I don't know if I could bring balance to a whole galaxy." But it seems Charlotte's spirits aren't dampened by that tall order.
Tailing Enji when she has to, otherwise the favored position of walking arms linked or side by side is the most fun. Especially because she can tell how bouncy he is when his excitement shows.
"Souvenirs? When I have nothing to share? I'd almost feel bad, almost though. Actually you've mentioned someone else, but do you have a network here?"
"Do you think you might have seen someone if I described them?"
Elyna knows her role in this fight as she refuses to give the enemy commander a moment's breath. While it burns through her own stamina, she knows the other combatant can only pay attention to her unless she wants one of these powerful slashes through. If that were an option, then Veronika's help wouldn't be needed.
The ex-knight can feel her muscles scream as they burn with every continued movement. It's excruciating. Her body begs for her to rest a moment as minutes roll into one another. But with how much she committed to this offense, to stop is to die even if she weren't buying Veronika time.
When the command is given, Elyna sidesteps in time to give Veronika the opening that she needs to sink her sword into their opponent. Yet she wouldn't give her co-commander all the fun as she brings down her slab of a sword against the masked fighter's form. Frost erupts down the line of the force, rapidly freezing all in its path including the super-heated metal where Veronika struck.
One blow isn't enough, however, as Elyna carries the rebound force from her slam to bounce her blade back into the air so that she could bring it against the new weak point with all the remaining strength she has after her assault. She would either cleave the general in two or leave a wounded combatant for Veronika to finish.
Falke brings her blades down to defend but the damage is done, the armor withstands one blow before it nearly explodes with a sickening cry of vibrating and tearing steel. The force knocks the weak over, it echoes as all eyes steer towards the dueling heroes in the mess of this battle.
Her body whips back, crashing damages blades toward to steer the following blow away from being deadly but blood is drawn. A good cut across the leaders body. Red is drawn along the arc of her swing as the sight of their heroic leader being set to her knee has started an irreversible swing in morale.
The panic that starts to brew, the weakening line spurs even the specialized lightning attack in progress to rethink it. They roll their formation back, pressure from the East is also mounting, perhaps their allies in the center without Falke's position there, have managed a victory was well.
Blade poised to strike with Elyna, the pair close in through the frozen path the last blow created. "Dying to some merc in the Faro Sea isn't how I bet she assumed it would go. Signals from the East, seems Ana and Noa's group have captured the Western most fort. We send them routing now."
They drive down on Falke only for a whirl, a blast of wind to force even the most steady back. Air pressure from someone approaching on the back of a long slender reptile, an orange sash, they sweep their spear forward creating an incredible wind blast that parts the struggling lines.
"General!" The stranger reaches out to grab the injured Falke, heaving them onto their beast as their spear raises up.
"Retreat! To the shore!"
"This wind, dammit the pay we'll get if we.." Veronika moves to take another step but the rider aims towards them. Hard to see narrow bullets of wind spread out, they're not armor piercing but for Elyna who has a wide blade and for the others who have shields it's not issue.
For Veronika her narrow sword and fatigued body can't guard in time, the wind bullets pierce her waist and thigh, causing to fall into the water.
The armies are starting to part, the general army pushes hoping to catch some prisoners in the route, and to push to the first dry ridge across the sea.
It seems at some cost, the day is won.
Amaya can't begin to imagine what she's agreed to in being Flavia's friend. She's seen for herself just how unusual and self-sacrificing this girl could be in the name of her childish idea of justice. But in her earnest innocence, she wore down the magical girl. At least this way, Amaya can keep an eye on the walking red flag.
A sigh slips through her lips. This girl is going to be a serious handful.
Still, that earnest side of her, that childlike optimism...It's cute and refreshing, especially when Flavia asks the magical girl to keep her secret identity safe. That sweet smile of hers, the one that she should be making all the time in a perfect world.
"Look. I'm not gonna promise things I don't know I can do. I'm not the same two heroes that saved you, and I'm not going to try to be them. I'm my own person, my own magical girl, and the only standards I'm meeting are the ones that are going to make me into a star...but, I'll promise you that I'm gonna try my hardest to keep everyone that I can safe. That includes you and Amaya.
"Does that work?"
"I know that...but you're just as warm as they are." Flavia remarks, that smile remains on her face as she sets her notebook in her lap for a few more notes. The question list is back front and center, this time with some things crossed off.
Now that they've had all this talk, there's no need to foolishly keep circling back to the topic. What matters now, is the research based on the busy lives of magical girls and celebrities with private lives.
"I know you'll be a star, just like Amaya-chan will. Maybe you two can collab one day, I'll be there to be your biggest fan. I have to live up to her words after all, calling me that....embarrassing as it was."
The rest needs not be said, though for all her perceptive traits and how she manages to handle herself in the moment when danger is nearby.
It's perhaps a little silly, that this girl doesn't even draw the connection between Amaya-chan and Ama-chan, but nevertheless her smile remains through the rest of the interview.
Including the karaoke that follows, given where they met. And surprisingly, Flavia's no beginner with music or singing, this bright eyed hope filled girl with a voice as pure and soft as silk.
"Well I've already decided my little friend that you are my number one minion from now on." Irina said this with the kind of gusto one would say when offering a lucrative job promotion. Not exactly matching the word "minion".
"You will work for- I mean with me, because I can make your life easy street. My reach and influence far greater than that rabble on the streets earlier. I'm a powerful vampire lord (a lie) with deep connections to the government and economic sectors (not lying technically)."
A TV in the background was talking about the sudden tragedy of a dozen people without explanation had thrown themselves into speeding traffic.
"You have a unique gift, Minion. A way to resist my charm, even though your body is still compelled to obey. I want to know what else you can do. You will tell me."
Resuka finds the strength to put a hand on Irina's face and push her back a bit, only weakly as any attempts by Irina to nudge herself back into Resuka's personal space would easily succeed.
Despite the strange markings all over her, void like hands biting at her own body, Resuka herself seems almost fatigued and tired. "What gift, resisting your charm? Is that what you call it, come on I just..."
"T-that's none of your business." Irina will have to get up in her space to force the answers out of her, physically she still moves as the other wants her to.
But as strong as she wants to appear, Resuka can feel her brain trying to tell Irina want she wants to hear. "What does a vampire lord need some lowly thing! Ugh.."
"I can feel stupid fangs, I hate them.."
The word "he" drew a small twitch in Mother Gates's right eyelid. Smaller of one than it used to be. She understood, though, that her daughter was dreaming of Harune and not some other equally fox-eared royalty she knew nothing of. But "those bodies"... right, Ziatrix and Deva. The two that the fragment of Core had spoken of.
The more Charlotte shared of her dreams, the more relevant data Artemis compiled in the background for the family's perusal. Mother let the AIA work in the background as she pulled a hover chair over to sit in. Even for her, this was quite much to take in. Or maybe she was still recovering from all that had transpired mere hours ago.
Charlotte mentioned an ocean world. A bullet point for it appeared under Harune. Just before her mother could ponder over what the dreams meant, the daughter drew her attention back.
"Part of it, yes." Mother sat more upright in the hover chair. "Rea Ron Fera, Queen of Kansaku."
"Yep, the same one in the stories Zak' and I used to tell you two."
"And, well, it's only fair I admit that I pocketed a hair of hers after we broke the Core, so to speak." A little bit embarrassing to think about. Such a stern and strong woman as the Red Slayer showing such sentimentality.
"In my defense, this was after finding out that she was both the last of her kind and the only woman I could possibly relate to in that galaxy. Literally the only Terran left - descendant of Sol, rather. I was not about to let her bloodline go extinct, not even after Jeanne made her way here twenty years ago to "reclaim what was hers" or whatever the hell."
"Anyway, long and short of it is I kept that hair safe in case it ever became prudent to clone the Queen, and..."
"...actually, Artemis, pull up the DNA splicing charts."
Artemis, waiting for Charlotte's permission, immediately pulled up the genetic diagrams Emily referred to. They were under a project titled, "Immaculate Conception," and at the top were three parent samples displayed - one from Mother Gates, the largest from Zak'yanna, and the final from Queen Rea Ron Fera. An arrow from each of them pointed to the middle, a point which itself split into two more arrows that pointed at distinct genetic sequences and the predicted results thereof.
The left one was labeled "Sophia" and had an almost perfect depiction of her. The one on the right was labeled "Charlotte"; all it was missing was the fox ears.
"I'm not mad or anything Mum, I mean if anything it means you really cared about her, to let her be apart of us knowing..." Well knowing her Mum's reservations, or more so former reservations towards possibly making her and Sophia the natural way.
And trying to avoid just a standard cloning, the oddity that became two girls, all traced back to one amazing hero from the stories Gates used to tell them both.
"Maybe that's all it was. We were perfectly sisters, but being two halves of an amazing girl..." Charlotte tables her thoughts, but they seem to make the most sense to her. How together, the lack of the sustain energy of their Mom, was fixed.
And Charlotte's interactions had helped spark her awakening, perhaps if Sophia had been the one to live, she might have popped away with ears instead?
"I want to find that ocean world I kept dreaming about. The fox woman Harune, she was someone who guided you into that galaxy where you met Mom."
Charlotte closes her eyes, "I know that the end of that galaxy was sudden. I know you and Mom were ejected out like everyone else, that anything that seemed foreign to that place was pushed out. Sezja the Shatter, the Red Witch, Ziatrix and Deva, this Harune and even possibly... what remains of that Yugveer, Core."
"So I know if I can find that place, maybe I can make sense of so many questions I have, and maybe. A way to help fix Miss Celune, save Mom...all of that."
"...I'm going to expect to be carried around all day by a royal escort."
"Same way I carried you through the warpdrift earlier?"
The way Lesago looked at Yukichi, she could tell he was pleased with the thought of donning a dress and personally bringing her her royal meals. At the very least he seemed open to doing it for her specifically.
The line was long, but at least it was moving.
"Ahh, don't worry about it too hard." Arm around Yukichi's shoulders. "You were caught up in school and getting your limbs replaced. And I've been caught up in getting my next year paid for!"
A Gelidan behind the two of them - another Onu-Korian - raised her hand to interrupt Lesago, before her partner pulled it down with a shake of his head.
"And yeah, part of that is being a waiter because I chose basic needs over scholarships from GGFF, but I wouldn't have it any other way." Especially since said 'basic needs' included a greater guarantee of time to spend with Yukichi.
The two of them were eventually next in line to visit the lookout island. As before, Lesago princess-carried Yukichi through the warpdrift up there with a grin. After their minute-long jump, they were on a much smaller island - twenty meters in diameter - and surrounded by five motionless guards. Lesago stayed close to keep Yukichi calm. In front of them were the enormous, specially-made binoculars, pointed straight at the top of Mt. Kolio, said to be where the legendary hero Vopahu stood frozen after giving his life to save the world.
"There he is," narrated Lesago over Yukichi's shoulder. "The man who saved us all... The man some say is still guarding us from evil to this very day, even while frozen atop that mountain."
"Wait, you got soul vision for your Blessingâ„¢, right?? See if anything comes up for you while you're looking at'im!"
For their part, Lesago, Yukichi, and each guard would appear bright blue and ethereal in Yukichi's soul vision. It would be harder for her to tell how the man said to be Vopahu appeared.
"You're lucky you have an adorable enough face, that pinching it would make everyone in line target me as enemy number one." That smile of his is infectious, it has just the right amount of playfulness but not enough to be smug or unbearable.
"When you put it that way, maybe I really need to double down on making you suck up to me a bit more." She hangs so easily off her, she doesn't bend or buckle considering how much she's gone through to even be standing here.
That doesn't last long, she's right there again in his arms, a frown with red across her face returns for the trip before she bounces back to her feet.
"Hard to believe someone can just... save the world like that, but there they are a solid reminder that all legends are rooted in some sort of history." Yukichi looks through it, then back to those around her.
"At this distance, I can't tell if it's the light, the ice and snow, but it all blends together so far away..."
Something about coming up short passes her mind, "what would someone say if I just told them I saw blue too like everyone else? Might it cause a panic? Or is that too mean of a joke?"
