第1G Sixth of the Teiko Kids
Generation of Miracles.
Years ago, that was what the reporters who saw the Junior High School Nationals called them.
These players with talents that you would only see once every ten years had gathered in one generation. Truly a miracle.
Regarding this title, the unbelievably tall year 1 center (C) said:
“Hmm…Not interested”
The shooting guard (SG) with a serious expression on his face commented:
“This is only the result of doing one’s best”
The small forward (SF) that seemed to want to quarrel in every interview said with an impatient look:
“Ah-how troublesome. I don’t really care about the name!"
The ace (A) who scored the most goals opened his eyes in surprise and said:
“Huh, the word ‘Miracle’ is used at the front? I thought it was at the the back”
(TL’s note: Aoimine thought that the ‘Kiseki [Miracle]’ in ‘kiseki no sedai’ is at the back like how it is spelled in english)
The boy holding the position of point guard (PG) dismissively said:
“It is an honourable title. We will continue to work hard in the future”
Afterwards, leading all of them, the one who is seen as the best power forward (PF) said:
“Although some people may think I’m exaggerating, these guys won’t stop here. The name, Generation of Miracles, isn’t a one-time thing. In the future, they’ll definitely become more well-known”
The reporters wrote down a note privately: the boy who spoke such words had eyes full of expectation and realisation. He appeared mature beyond his age.
As time went by, they left many brilliant records, and entered a new school year.
Welcoming them is the season of new encounters and goodbyes──Spring. At this time, they are recruiting new members.
During the afternoon in the hallway, Teiko Junior High School second year, Kuroko Tetsuya, was troubled.
“I did not think that things would become like this…”
“Eh? What’s wrong, Kurokocchi?”
Kise Ryouta who did not hear Kuroko talking to himself, titled his head to ask. Looking at how Kise was pretending to be mature with his lovable face, Kuroko shook his head lightly, “No…it’s nothing”
“Is that so? Speaking of which, isn’t this the first time I encounter Kurokocchi in the hallway?”
“No. We passed by each other quite a few times now. It’s just that Kise-kun did not noticed”
“Really? Ah, don’t tell me that even in your everyday life you are also using ‘that’? Urm, ‘that’, mis…di…urm, misdire…ah-couldn’t I just call it ‘misdi’?”
“It’s misdirection, Kise-kun”
“Right Right, that’s it! That’s amazing”
Kuroko stared at Kise when he said it with the utmost sincerity.
“What’s wrong?”
Kise looked back at Kuroko, his lips curling into a natural smile. If someone said that this mouth was also the one criticising Kuroko as a “useless person”, “shorty”, “only had a lack of presence” yesterday, less than one percent of the people told would believe it happened.
Kuroko continued staring at Kise.
Kise pouted in displeasure and said “Really, what’s wrong?~”. As such, Kuroko had to honestly say his feelings out:
“……Actually, it’s because the Kise-kun of yesterday and today is different so I’m surprised”
“Ah, that’s inevitable”
Kise calmed down and smiled.
“Inevitable?”
“Right. Because I won’t hide my ‘ㄐㄧㄥˋ ㄧˋ’. So from today onwards, I’ll be counting on you to guide me”
Kuroko paused for a minute before he figured out that ‘ㄐㄧㄥˋ ㄧˋ’ is actually referring to ‘gratitude’.
As for why Kise’s thinking had changed, Kuroko also had an idea. It’s because of the second-string game they had participated in yesterday.
Before the game, Kise had openly said he does not recognise Kuroko as an official player and in yesterday’s game, he had even wanted to bet on Kuroko’s uniform to see who scored more than the other. But, when they were both on the court, Kise personally witnessed Kuroko [Shadow] playstyle and his thinking seems to have changed.
Thanks to this game, Kise changed his opinion of Kuroko from the lowest of the hierarchy to a respectful figure. Even calling him with “-cchi~”, a nickname Kise bestowed only to those he acknowledges.
Towards those he did not acknowledge, Kise have never hidden his displeasure. Vice Versa, towards those he acknowledges, Kise will show his respect sincerely. After knowing this fact, it is understood why Kise had such a change.
Even though he understood, Kuroko still felt troubled because Kise’s change in attitude was too sudden.
“Don’t think too much~. Ah, right. If you don’t mind, I’ll give this to you”
Saying this, Kise took out a small bag made from baking paper.
Inside the paper bag, a mild smell of butter wafted into the air.
“……that probably……is the cookies made during home economics class?”
“That’s right~. You’re sharp”
“I understood when I looked at how Kise is dressed”
“I see”
Around the outside of Kise’s white uniform and sweater was an apron made out of twill cloth. On his head was a cloth folded into a triangular shape. One look and anyone would know he just went to a home economics class.
“Kise-kun is not going to eat?”
Kuroko asked after accepting the cookies.
“I’m a model, there’s a limit to how much sweets I can eat”
Kise adjusted his bangs happily while revealing a model beautiful smile.
“……”
“Eh? What’s wrong?”
“……because, a model is also very suited to wearing a bandana”
“Why is there such a long pause!?”
After Kuroko saw the dazzling aura from Kise, he acted strangely making Kise suffer a blow. Afterwards, Kuroko still said “But thank you for your cookies”
“Then, please excuse me. Akashi-kun said he wants to see me”
“Eh? Akashicchi?”
Kise was surprised to hear the basketball club vice captain’s name.
“What happened?”
To Kise’s question, Kuroko could only tilt his head and said “Well……”
Seeing Kuroko’s response, Kise also tilt his head in the same direction as Kuroko. “Well……?”
Kuroko scratched his cheeks with a troubled expression and said:
“I’m not too sure but Akashi-kun seems to have something to say to me”
After the morning training, Kuroko was stopped by Akashi.
Akashi walked closer to Kuroko only when all the club members have greeted their coach and left.
“Kuroko, do you have time? I have something to ask you”
“Yes……?”
What could it be about? Kuroko was nervous. He could not think of anything that Akashi would want to ask him about. Akashi is not the type who gossips about others which made Kuroko more curious.
However, Akashi did not continue asking.
“What? Wasn’t it Akashi who called out to you first?”
Aomine Daiki raised an eyebrow in surprise after listening to Kuroko.
After saying goodbye to Kise, Kuroko came into Aomine’s class.
Stopping Aomine at the corridor, Kuroko told him about the incident with Akashi in the morning.
“Why didn’t Akashi say anything?”
“Because captain called Akashi-kun away. So Akashi-kun said “maybe another time……”, turned around and left to find captain”
“Oh. But, what did Akashi want with you, Tetsu?”
“I have no idea. I’m curious but I do not know whether I should approach him first”
“So you came to ask me first…but, isn’t this strange?”
Leaning against the window, Aomine looked at his partner Kuroko.
“Just go straight to Akashi’s class and ask him”
“I want to do that too but I don’t know which class Akashi-kun is in”
April. Since everyone had just changed classes, nobody was sure who is in which class, some people would even forget they changed classroom. Students who were just promoted to second years or third years would walk into their former classrooms if they were not careful. This kind of strange situations would occur many times in the morning, it’s no wonder Kuroko did not know Akashi’s class.
“Akashi’s class. I think I heard about it before. Let me think, that guy’s class, class……”
Aomine closed his eyes, lowered his head and started humming.
Kuroko waited for Aomine to remember with high hopes.
After a while, Aomine’s humming became softer and softer, leaving only the sound of his rhythmic breathing; his eyebrows which was knitted close in concentration started to get looser.
“………………Aomine-kun?”
“……Ah!”
Kuroko felt that Aomine’s expression was weird and called out to him after a while. Aomine jumped up in surprise and opened up his eyes violently.
“This is bad, I fell asleep!”
“……Ah?”
With an embarrassed smile, Aomine scratched his head and said:
“As long as I’m not thinking about basketball, I fall asleep easily”
“……then, are you doing alright in lessons?”
“Eh? It’s okay. Maybe because I have grown taller since entering the second year, I have been moved to the back of the classroom so there’s no need to worry”
In other words, what Aomine meant was, he would not be discovered by the teacher that easily if he fell asleep during lessons.
“……I am worried in many other areas”
Afterwards, Aomine took on the challenge on thinking of Akashi’s class again. Kuroko was worried about whether Aomine would fall asleep again. At this moment, a savior arrived.
“Aomine, what are you doing?”
The person who asked was the basketball club manager, Momoi Satsuki.
It seems she was just passing by Aomine’s class when she discovered him deep in thought.
“What happened? You’re standing alone in a place like this”
“I’m not alone. Tetsu’s here too”
“Eh?”
Towards the shocked Momoi, Kuroko did a short bow.
“Hello”
“Wah!”
Kuroko’s sudden appearance into her line of sight caused Momoi to shriek. Her reaction caused Aomine to laugh uncontrollably.
“Pftt-haha! What kind of reaction is that! Going ‘Wah’!”
“B-Because I was surprised, it couldn’t be helped! K-Kuroko too, don’t suddenly appear every time!”
“I’m very sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you……”
After Kuroko apologised sincerely, Momoi sighed, not knowing what else to say.
Towards Kuroko who calmly apologised, Momoi could only say “Well”. Half of her was angry at him but she did not think that Kuroko would sincerely and seriously apologise to her.
Speaking of which, it was because Kuroko had a lack of presence that he could become the strength to advance in a match. After watching the second-string competition yesterday, she fully understood this fact.
Obviously an active challenger but the appearance lack arrogance.
Able to have a good relationship with the usual Aomine who does not listen to anyone. This kind of honest feeling is new, she did not know how to respond.
In summary,
“…I feel a little angry”
Momoi was stubbornly angry. Aomine looked over at her without understanding.
“What’s wrong, Satsuki?”
“Nothing! Speaking of which, why are the two of you together?”
Aomine told Momoi what happened.
“What, is that all? I know Akashi-kun’s class”
“No way!”
“Please tell me, Momoi-san”
“I can but I don’t think Akashi-kun is in the classroom anymore”
“Eh?”
“I passed by the Art room earlier and saw him with Midorin”
“Eh?”
Kuroko asked again after hearing an unfamiliar name.
“I’m sorry but who is he with?”
“Eh? It’s Midorin”
“Was there such a person?” Kuroko looked at Aomine.
Aomine laughed,
“Its Midorima!”
“Midorin……”
“What exactly are you trying to say, Kuroko?”
Midorima Shintaro looked at Kuroko, who had fallen into a deep silence after calling him by his nickname, with a look of pure horror in his face. Beside Kuroko, Aomine was desperately clutching onto his mouth and stomach to prevent himself from laughing. This made Midorima upset.
“Nothing, it's just the fact that Midorima-kun had such a cute nickname that shocked me”
“Ahahaha! H-He really said it right in front of him! Ahahaha!”
“You’re being noisy,Aomine!” Midorima snapped at the laughing Aomine.
“That nickname is something Momoi decided, I don't intend on acknowledging it or letting anyone call me that”
“Never mind. I also do not intend on calling Midorima-kun ‘Midorin’”
“Then it's alright” Midorima pushed his glasses up a little. “And? What business do you have with me? I'm busy”
Kuroko scanned his surroundings.
According to Momoi, she came to the Art Room together with Aomine but there seems to be only Midorima inside.
“Akashi-kun is not with you?”
“Akashi? He's not here. Why?”
Aomine rubbed the tears from laughing too much away.
“It seems that Akashi had something to ask Tetsu”
“Akashi?”
Midorima was shocked. He started thinking.
“It couldn't be that Haizaki caused trouble again?”
“Haizaki-kun? I didn't hear Akashi-kun mentioning it”
“You may be right. If it's Haizaki, there's no need to specially ask Kuroko. If that's the case…it's about Kise?”
“Eh?” Kuroko was caught unprepared by Midorima’s words. On the other hand, Aomine did not look surprised at all. “Is that so. That's possible”
A few days ago, Kise had stubbornly challenged Haizaki for the starter position.
Although he got promoted to the first string in just two weeks, Kise could not defeat Haizaki and lost. From that point onwards, Haizaki would unexpectedly pick a fight with Kise and Kise would rashly fight back. Training was troublesome/awkward (?).
The captain did not need to intervene but the other members could not leave them alone.
If Kise, after Haizaki, changed his target to Kuroko who he looked down upon, Aomine and Midorima did not know what he intends to do.
If that is the case, Akashi is planning to ask Kuroko about this? That was what Midorima and Aomine predicted.
“That bastard Kise, he isn't thinking of doing something to Testu is he, betting on the starter position and whatnot”
“……”
Aomine was completely correct. Kuroko remained silent.
Silence means they were right. Midorima and Aomine sighed.
“It can’t be helped, that guy, obviously meaningless to compete with Tetsu…Akashi can’t be thinking of using Tetsu to warn Kise”
“Akashi will not do such a thing. If he wants to say something, he would approach that person directly. This time, I suppose he wants to find out something through Kuroko to prepare a strategy”
“If Kise wins over Tetsu, he would probably shout something like ‘I want to change my mentor!!’ again”
“Really, it’s just winning over Kuroko only, Kise is really……”
Looking over their shoulders, Kuroko finally interrupted them. “About that……All of you are always talking about me losing this or that, it makes me sad”
“It can’t be helped in fact [nanodayo]” Midorima reiterated.
“It is not a fact”
“Eh? Don’t tell me you won?” Midorima and Aomine widened their eyes at Kuroko.
“Kise did say he wanted to challenge me but I rejected him. After that, his attitude towards me changed greatly and I was shocked” Kuroko explained quietly.
“Ha? What is this situation?” Aomine looked on with a look of disbelief.
Beside him, Midorima pushed up his glasses again. “Anyway, it would be faster to ask Akashi directly” he turned around and walked back into the art room.
“That’s why we’re looking for him” Aomine shouted.
“Midorima-kun, do you know where Akashi-kun is? Please tell us if you know”
Hearing Kuroko’s request, Midorima turned around.
“If its Akashi, he should be at the Student Council Meeting Room. If you go now, you should be able to see him”
“Right! Student council meeting room. Let’s go, Tetsu”
“Yes. Midorima-kun, sorry to have disturb your preparation for art class”
Kuroko bowed, making Midorima surprised.
“I’m not doing any preparation”
“Eh? Then why are you at the art room?”
“In exchange for some items, I have to tidy up the art room”
Midorima directed his gaze towards a wall of the art room. Kuroko followed his line of sight. Along the wall, a few three-dimensional statues were arranged. The most striking being the bronze replica.
“You wanted this one?”
“Correct. After negotiating with the art teacher, I had to tidy the art room to get it”
“Your hobbies are really extensive” Aomine commented.
“People like you won’t understand it’s rare value” Midorima responded.
Kuroko stared at the bronze statue. On the art book, it is stated that this is Rodin’s ‘Thinker’.
Although Kuroko was still not on familiar terms with Midorima, he knew that Midorima was good at playing the piano. At last year graduation ceremony, Midorima was selected to play the piano to accompany the music. Being a first year that was selected, Midorima’s playing abilities must be good.
Looks like Midorima seems to be interested in the arts generally and not just music. Speaking of which, it is no wonder he was attracted to the bronze statue. Additionally, even if it is a school item, he was stubborn.
So when he was faced with Aomine’s “Tetsu, do you think this guy have weird hobbies?”
Kuroko answered “Really? I think it’s not bad”
Midorima nodded satisfied with his answer. “Right, this is an interesting artifact”
He walked up to the bronze statue and placed his hand on it.
“Eh?” Kuroko widened his eyes slightly because Midorima had placed his hand on the totem pole next to the “The Thinker”.
“This totem pole is useful, look. This face, from the top to the bottom -happy, angry, sad, laughter-these four expressions. In this case, [Oha Asa] ‘s lucky item can be this. Whether it is the happy face or sad face, all of it can be useful. By the way, today’s lucky item is a small mirror” Midorima said.
Midorima conveniently took out a small mirror for the two to see.
“Lucky item??”
Kuroko glanced at the mirror, tilting his head slightly.
Midorima frowned. “You don’t know what [Oha Asa] is?”
“Don’t know”
“What!?”
Midorima raised his voice unusually high because of his shock and forgot about the mirror.
“!?”
The mirror fell straight down.
If it continues, the mirror will undoubtfully break, just as it was reaching it’s end,
“Ha!”
Midorima caught the mirror with his reflexes and determination.
“T-that was close!”
“That was a close call”
Kuroko breathed a sigh of relief too.
“I actually let go of the lucky item? Eh?”
“What’s wrong, Midorima-kun?”
Suddenly, Midorima stared at Kuroko.
“Kuroko, what is your horoscope?”
“Eh?”
“Answer quickly! What is your horoscope?”
Kuroko had to take a step back against the unusually flustered Midorima.
“Aquarius”
“I see”
Midorima had an enlighten expression on his face while crossing his arms together.
“Kuroko, from today onwards, do not appear within a metre before me”
“Eh?”
“[Oha Asa] said, the compatibility between cancer and Aquarius is the worst so do not come near me. Do you understand, definitely do not come near me”
Saying so, he chased Aomine and Kuroko out of the art room.
Walking towards the student council room, Aomine told Kuroko that Midorima was a avid believer in [Oha Asa].
“In that case, if the totem pole is his lucky item, he will carry it around the whole day?”
“Probably. That must be tough”
“Compared to that, he has an incredible amount of faith”
Thinking back, during practice he would always see an amazing item in the corner of the gym. Yesterday was a mosquito boar (TL’s note: a toy of some sort?), the day before that was an English newspaper, are all those Midorima’s lucky item?
Kuroko asked Aomine. The answer was yes.
“So you don’t know, Tetsu”
“I always thought those were lost items, I did not expect them to be Midorima’s”
“I can’t believe it! You did not see that guy holding those items before?”
“Because he was so serious, I thought Midorima-kun was keeping them to return them to their owners”
“You think too much”
“Yes”
Nodding, the two continued walking towards the student council room.
Reaching the student council room, Kuroko and Aomine checked on the credibility of Midorima’s words.
“Akashi? He’s not here. It seemed like he was called by the Teiko Festival Executive Committee?”
And thus, the two of them went to Teiko Festival Executive Committee’s meeting room.
“Akashi-kun? He went back already. He said he had to participate in the sports department’s regular meeting”
After being told by the volleyball captain, the two rushed to the staff room.
“Akashi? Ah, he was just here but left because the cafeteria had a sampling meeting”
When the two of them reached the cafeteria,
“Aka-chin? He’s not here”
Murasakibara replied them as he ate a late lunch.
“That guy! How many businesses does he have!”
Aomine grumbled as he violently kicked a cafeteria bench to sit down.
“Akashi-kun, maybe there’s actually three of them…!” Kuroko also sighed softly while sitting beside Aomine.
Murasakibara watched the two, he did not stop eating.
“Are you looking for Aka-chin? That’s difficult. Other than eating lunch here, Aka-chin is really busy at other times”
Kuroko realised after being promoted to the first string that Akashi and the other regulars had the habit of eating here every week. The well-mannered and calm Akashi who ate slowly was actually busy at other times.
“What do we do, Tetsu? There’s no more ideas”
“This is indeed difficult”
Just as Kuroko and Aomine were talking with each other, Murasakibara finished his lunch. He put his chopsticks down, put his hands together and said “Thanks for the meal”
The next instant,
“Ah, I’m hungry……” the sound of grumbling
Aomine was stunned.
“Just the same as ever, that digestion speed”
“I’m still growing”
Murasakibara pouted and laid his head on the table. Normally, he would have already gone off to buy snacks but today he just quietly sat where he was.
“Murasakibara-kun, are you not eating snacks today?”
“Yesterday, I quarrelled with my little older brother”
“Eh?”
Changing the subject, Kuroko was confused.
Aomine also looked at Murasakibara, “What is this guy talking about? Why would he describe his older brother as ‘little’?”
“Then, the middle brother became angry, big sister said both sides were at fault and confiscated our allowance…its too much, right?”
Looking at the angry Murasakibara, Aomine was curious again.
“Ha? Ah? Middle?”
“In other words, Murasakibara-kun have three older brothers and one older sister. Yesterday, he had a fight with the youngest older brother, that’s what hes saying”
With the deciphering accomplished, Murasakibara replied “Yes, yes” at the side while nodding his head and sighing.
“A life without snacks, its just telling me to die…I’m dying of hunger”
“Didn’t you already eat lunch?”
“Snacks go into another stomach”
By the way, lunch money is given everyday so no problem there.
“If only I kept more of the food we made in home economics”
Murasakibara’s mumbling made Kuroko recall a certain item he put into his pocket.
“If you don’t mind, you can eat this”
Saying so, he placed the bag of cookies Kise gave him on the table.
Like a christmas tree in a dark house, Mursakibara’s face brightened up.
“I’ll eat~I’ll eat~Kuro-chin you’re such a nice person~”
Murasakibara quickly stuffed the cookies in his mouth. This was the first time that Kuroko saw such a happy expression on him.
“Tetsu, you had home economics class today?”
“No, Kise gave them to me”
Aomine who was about to eat a cookie, stopped his hand in mid air.
“Kise? This? To you?”
He inspected the cookie, “This isn't poisoned right...?”
“I Aomine-kun’s eyes, how much am I hated by Kise-kun?”
As Aomine was hesitating whether to eat the cookies, Murasakibara finished them all.
“Ah, as thanks, I’ll tell you something”
Mursakibara licked his fingers.
“Aka-chin should be at the Basketball club meeting room”
“Say so earlier if you knew” Aomine was angry.
Mursakibara took the chance to take the cookie in his hand and threw it into his mouth.
His movements were quick for someone used to this, as expected.
Kuroko silently admired him.
“Yes” Mursakibara added. “He should be with Captain”
The basketball club meeting room. Kuroko took a deep breath before the door.
Then, he softly knocked on it.
“Opening the door…”
“Pardon the intrusion”
When the door was opened, Kuroko was welcomed by some unexpected characters.
“Eh? Only the senpais?”
Aomine glanced around the room. Captain Nijimura and two other third-years sat around a table. The basketball club meeting room only had these three inside.
“What? Is there something wrong?” Nijimura asked.
Kuroko told him his reason about finding Akashi.
“I see, Akashi told you that…”
Nijimura stared at Kuroko.
“Kuroko, did you do something wrong?”
“Eh?”
While Kuroko was surprised, Nijimura stood up and slowly moved closer to him.
“If he told you that, that means you did something to anger him! Isn’t it!”
“…Eh?”
Obviously, Kuroko was stunned and Aomine sighed.
“What happened? Say it!”
Under Nijimura’s pressure, Kuroko was speechless.
His stare was as if he looked into Kuroko’s heart.
The whole room was quiet as the others looked at Nijimura and Kuroko.
Then, breaking the silence was Nijimura.
“I was kidding”
“Eh?”
“I was joking around” Nijimura grinned. The nervous atmosphere slowly died down.
“Ah?? Joking? Eh? Captain, you?”
Aomine stuttered, looking at Nijimura and Kuroko alternately.
“As I said, joking. Look at you, shocked to that extent. Get a grip!”
While he said that, Nijimura gave a small flick to Kuroko’s forehead, as if dispelling a curse, Kuroko shook his shoulders.
“This joke is too scary, Captain”
“I couldn’t resist teasing you after seeing how overly nervous you are”
The teasing was a success. Nijimura grinned.
“Did you need to be so nervous speaking to me?”
“This…” after being exposed, Kuroko stammered.
To break the awkwardness, the other two third-years also laughed.
“Nijimura, don’t bully kuroko! Anyone would be nervous after seeing your glare”
“Sorry Kuroko. Despite Nijimura’s terrible face, he’s a person who loves pranks. He’s a fun guy”
“Hey, who has a terrible face!”
Nijimura stared at them while the others started pointing at him. “That’s the face”
But, kuroko still had a questioning look on his face.
“That…what happened?”
“Huh??”
Nijimura turned to look at Kuroko.
“that…actually I was nervous because it looked like the senpais were having a serious look on their faces”
His words made Nijimura serious again, Aomine also thought it was strange.
“Don’t tell me something really happened?” Aomine urgently glanced at Nijimura. Kuroko also waited for his reply.
“Ah!” Nijimura suddenly clutched his head.
“Kuroko you’re always so observant. I can’t believe you also noticed this”
“I’m sorry. Is it something I shouldn’t ask?”
“Nope. Actually, Haizaki caused trouble again”
According to a report from Akashi heard by Nijimura, Haizaki beaten his schoolmate into a hospital and he had to be enrolled in the hospital for three weeks. However, there is no definite evidence that Haizaki is the cause, so even the teacher of the student has gotten the exact information.
“In a witness report, it wasn’t clear when the fight began. That guy always does this. Even though we don’t need to take responsibility for him, its not a good thing either…”
Nijimura sighed weakly.
“I see!”
Kuroko answered solemnly. Aomine made a complicated facial expression.
“Idiot! You two don’t have to bother with him”
Looking at them, Nijiumura flicked their foreheads as a lesson.
“You can leave this to the captain. Go out and play basketball casually”
“But if we do that, captain will be angry”
“Nonsense! Don’t look down on me!”
Smack! Aomine suffered his second forehead flick that day.
And it was even in the same place. “Ouch!” Aomine rubbed his forehead.
Nijimura squinted his eyes at Aomine.
“Speaking of which, you were looking for Akashi. That guy should be ‘there’ right about now”
Then, Kuroko finally got useful information on Akashi’s whereabouts.
After Kuroko and Aomine left, the meeting room only had Nijimura and the others.
“Thank goodness for your lie”
One of the third years spoke.
“Its not really counted as a lie. When Akashi was here, we were on this topic” Nijumura sat down to talk.
“But,I didn’t think it was noticed by Kuroko…you all looked too serious”
“We have to be serious”
Another third year continued.
“Who told Nijimura to suddenly quit being captain”
Both looked at Nijimura. Just called out by him not long ago, he said that he would resign as captain and tell them before the official release.
And Akashi Seijurou will be replacing him as captain.
Of course, the two were shocked, and advised him to reconsider it more. But he told them calmly “I told the coach already”. After hearing his reason, both couldn’t say anything.
It was at this moment that Kuroko and Aomine came and made the heavy atmosphere warmer.
Teasing Kuroko, Nijimura looked alright as usual. This told the others that Nijimura’s decision was not reckless and he gave a lot of thought to it. This kind of decisiveness makes them feel a little lonely as friends.
One of the third years asked.
“This decision is not something that can be done at any time. When did it become so big?”
In the face of this half-joking question, Nijimura smiled a little “I was aware of it early in the spring of last year]
“What?”
“I will accept things honestly in order for my treasured things not to be taken away”
After listening to Nijimura, the two third years looked down and it was obvious that Nijimura was slowly having his most important things taken away.
Nijimura had a calm expression and he always knew he had an impulsive shortcoming. But now, his expression is really calm.
“I really like Nijimura as our captain...”
“Me too”
Nijimura sneered at the praise of his classmates.
“Why do you such a confused expression? We still have the whole middle game (?) (the last day of summer)]
“That's true”
The three finally looked at each other and smiled.
“What happened? The both of you”
“What's wrong!?”
Aomine said ungraciously to the Akashi who was hard to find.
“This guy had been running all over the place trying to find you!”
They took a big turn around the school and finally found Akashi in the place where Nijimura told them.
This is a place that they are familiar with and can no longer be familiar with ------- gymnasium.
When Kuroko and Aomine arrived, Akashi was practising his shooting alone.
“Akashi would willingly practise on his own?”
Kuroko looked at Akashi in shock. The person who was so busy in the afternoon still had the energy to practise for basketball.
“Since I became the vice-captain, it wouldn’t do for me to be tardy”
Akashi touched the ball in his hands.
“Are you two here to practise as well?”
At this, Kuroko recovered from his shock. He had forgotten why he had come here because of Akashi. He asked Akashi about the thing that was bothering him since that morning.
“Akashi-kun, what did you want to ask me?”
“Ah-about that”
Akashi smiled.
“It concerns Kise”
“Oh” Aomine widened his eyes. Midorima guessed right.
But he wasn’t completely right.
“Yesterday, you participated in the competition with the second team. How was it?”
“You are referring to?”
“Has Kise’s attitude changed? To be gentler?”
Akashi’s tone sounded as if he saw everything himself which made Kuroko sighed.
Aomine tilted his head at the side.
“What did Kise do? Didn’t you say you didn’t win?”
“Aomine, I wasn’t asking that, but whether Kise’s attitude towards Kuroko had changed for the better”
Akashi carefully explained to Aomine so that he could understand.
“How is that possible” Aomine laughed.
“That Kise? That Kise who always arrogant turning gentle?”
“So how was it, Kuroko?”
At Akashi’s question, Kuroko nodded.
“As Akashi said, he has indeed treated me better although I’m troubled by it”
“No way” Aomine frowned. But it was something that Akashi had already predicted.
“I see. I just want to confirm this with you”
Akashi nodded.
The knot in his heart was finally solved, and Kuroko said with a smile. “The doubts in my heart have finally been solved”
And Aomine shrugged helplessly.
“It took so long in the school; the result is this little thing”
“I didn’t expect you to come over and ask me specifically”
“Sorry, because I care too much...”
Kuroko scratched his cheek, and Akashi smiled and picked up the school uniform jacket that was folded in the corner of the gym.
As if it had already been calculated, the preparatory bell in the afternoon rang.
"Well, my next lesson is a physical education class! Tetsu, Akashi, see you after school!"
Aomine hurriedly ran out.
“Ah…”
Kuroko still wanted to say something, but Aomine ran fast and has disappeared.
“Forgot to say anything to Aomine?”
Akashi asked as he put his coat on his wrist.
“I want to thank Aomine-kun, I can’t get it... I can’t say it”
“Always, right?”
Akashi showed a deep smile, which made Kuroko ask with care. “What”
“Because you are too close to Aomine, so you can’t say it?”
Akashi’s words gave Kuroko a sigh of relief.
It’s all right.
Kuroko has always had some words that must be conveyed to Aomine.
That was thanks.
On the day when I was about to give up basketball, only Aomine believed in me.
When I entered the team, I couldn’t get the results. When I was almost downgraded, Aomine would rather fall with me and protect me. He believed so much in me.
Of course, Kuroko’s gratitude was not only directed at Aomine alone.
Walking from the gym towards the classroom, Kuroko sneaked a few glances at Akashi who was beside him.
“What’s wrong?” Akashi noticed Kuroko’s line of sight.
Kuroko couldn’t say his thoughts, so he changed the topic of conversation.
“…How did Akashi-kun know what I’m thinking?”
“It’s written on your face”
“……”
Kuroko gently touched his face. Akashi seeing this, chuckled.
“Relax. The average person wouldn’t notice it. I analysed what you said and understood”
“Just that” Kuroko was shocked.
“Occasionally there will be a few times... Also, Aomine is a very straightforward guy. So, don't bother to find the opportunity, just say it straight out in front of him”
"Also... there are too many places to thank Aomine-kun, and it’s not enough to say the words Thank you”
Kuroko scratched his face in a distressed manner, and Akashi also taught seriously with his hand to his chin.
“How about this? How about going to the stamp rally at the Puzzle Research Society during the Teiko Academy Festival? Aomine should want this year's prize”
“The stamp rally?”
When Akashi’s explanation was nearing the end, the two reached Kuroko’s classroom. Kuroko bowed towards Akashi and went inside his classroom.
Watching Kuroko enter the classroom, Akashi also walked to his class.
“So, next, what should I do...”
Akashi's whispered mutter was heard and disappeared into the silence of the corridor.
After the practice of that day, Aomine witnessed an incredible scene in the locker room.
“Aominecchi, Kurokocchi, how about going to a convenience store to eat ice cream when going back?”
Kise, who smiles and talks to Kuroko. Aomine can't help but yell
“You change your face too fast”
“What are you talking about! I am a man who does not forget to respect the respected people! Right, Kurokocchi!”
Kuroko can only answer “Oh”
Aomine finally understood what Kuorko said during the lunch break. He didn't expect it to be as Akashi said. After looking around, Midorima was surprised to some extent. He had almost predicted everything. Murasakibara silently packed his things and prepared to go home. He was completely uninterested in this.
“Forget it, I don’t understand but if you acknowledge Tetsu that’s good enough”
The only thing that was understood was it was all within Akashi’s expectations.
Kise took Aomine’s response as a sign that he agreed to go. He happily said “Then lets go together” and looked towards Midorima and Murasakibara who had packed their things already.
“Is Mursakibaracchi going too?”
“Eh……”
“I’m treating”
“I’ll go~~~~~~~”
“Midorimacchi?”
“Can’t. I have something to say to Akashi”
Walking out of the changing room, saying goodbye to Midorima. They met Momoi and the five of them went home together.
The starlight started shining. Walking on the sidewalk, Kuroko said
“Kise-kun, aren’t you dieting?”
“Its different after practice” Kise smiled.
“That’s right! That’s right! Ice cream goes into a different stomach”
“You always have another stomach!” Aomine couldn’t stand saying it.
Seeing this scene, Momoi who was walking behind them chuckled.
“How do I put it? How nice”
Aomine turned to her “What’s wrong?”
“It’s hard to go home together with everyone like this. How do you say it, there is a feeling of companionship”
Momoi said happily. Aomine had a surprised expression.
“What is the feeling? We are friends. Right, Tetsu?”
Upon hearing him, Kuroko looked up at Aomine, who was walking beside him.
Aomine didn't look at him, his eyes had already returned to the front.
There is no need to wait for Kuroko's response. For Aomine, the answer is of course only one.
Kuroko smiled and said
“……Yes”
His chest was full of warm pride.
At the same time, Midorima also met Akashi on his way home.
“Kuroko looked for you during the day, have you seen him?”
Akashi nodded “I saw him”
After answering, Akashi seems to start thinking about what to do.
“What happened?” Midorima asked.
At this time, Akashi recalled the lunch break and briefly returned a sentence.
“What will he do?”
Instead of answering, it is more like a whisper to himself.
“What is this about? Midorima has no way to ask for it.
At this time, a gust of wind blew.
The strong winds of early spring allowed Midorima to keep his eyes open and use his hands to block the wind.
Midorima's horizons and sounds are blurred
At this moment -------
“There is nothing wrong with attaching importance to friendship. But when there is a violation of the basketball club's philosophy, I wonder what he will do?”
At the same time as the whisper, under the bangs rising with the wind, no one saw the cold light flashed in Akashi's eyes.

Phantom of the Library Committee
Pushing open the windows, the sounds of cicadas surged through in the early morning.
Summer has arrived.
A light breeze immediately flowed into the enclosed club room, before Koganei Shinji had the time to make a sentimental speech of this view, he sighed.
“Ah, it’s too hot!!”
The activity room is after all squeezed full of all the basketball club members, who just after finishing their morning practice, are covered in sweat.
The activity room was also welcoming unusual warmth.
“Ah, so steaming hot, it has already come to the point where the outside wind would not come in! -----Eh? What did you say, Mitobe? This is the law of thermodynamic functions? Can you not mention this now!”
At first glance, it would look like he was talking to himself but in reality he was actually having a soulful conversation with the ever silent Mitobe Rinnosuke. This kind of ability a normal person would never be able master belong only to Koganei himself.
Hyuuga rushed to call them “If you have the time to move your lips, why don’t you change your clothes quickly. We’re going to be late!”
“Yes, yes-----”
Koganei’s shoulders drooped helplessly as he left the window side and walked over to his locker.
“About that, why don’t-----I go outside to change?” Furihata Kouki suggested.
Koganei was surprised. “Eh? Why?”
Furihata replied nervously,
“Well, if someone goes to change outside, the room would have a little more space, then it wouldn’t be that stuffy-----moreover, you see, I’m a first year-----”
“Furihata, you don’t have to have such considerations” Izuki Shun smiled at him gently. “A first year giving way to a second year, senior priority and such, in Seirin’s basketball club you don’t have to consider things like that”
“That’s right, it’s rare that the activity room have enough members to use the lockers. Just change inside” Kiyoshi Teppei agreed with a smile.
Hearing from his two seniors, Furihata nodded his head in embarrassment. “Yes!”
“Speaking of which, there’s no need to change outside. If we open the door, won’t the wind come in?”
As he said this, Kagami Taiga prepared to open the door.
Kuroko Tetsuya seeing this, warned him gently.
“Not necessarily-----”
“What’s wrong, Kuroko! It’s just letting the wind to flow through”
“Although it may sound reasonable to a person like Kagami-kun-----”
“Oi!”
“If we open the door dressed like this…”
Kagami followed Kuroko’s line of sight and examined his own clothes for a moment.
“Is there a problem?
“Big problem! Everything is exposed!”
Another first year, Kawahara Koichi pointed out immediately. The other first year Fukuda Hiroshi nodded his head too.
“Kagami, if you want to open the door, it’s better to change clothes first”
“Oh, is that so” Kagami accepted their views, putting on a T-shirt quickly.
“But,” Tsuchida Satoshi asked in an unhurried manner. “Is there a fixed rule that prohibits us from opening the door when changing?”
“Is there?” Kuroko turned around to inquire.
“There’s no school rule that says that but it’s considered an unwritten rule! Last year, the football club changed their clothes with the door open and was subsequently complained against by the girls saying something about seeing something dirty”
Tsuchida explained to Kuroko and the rest of the first years who nodded their heads in understanding. Only Kagami said dishearteningly,
“Something dirty-----how to put it, how hurtful”
“In contrast, if it’s Riko, she’ll definitely say ‘I’ll just look harder (T/L note: that means Riko would continue staring at them? Lol)’ or something along those lines”
Kiyoshi mentioned Seirin Basketball Club’s coach, Aida Riko’s name, with a boastful tone.
“This is a little…” Koganei had an amused expression on his face.
“Hey! Stop this conversation and quickly change into your clothes, coach will double our training this afternoon if we’re late!”
Hyuuga ordered angrily for them to hasten their movements.
However even if their hands moved faster, their mouths also began to move too.
“Say, we’ve never seen Mitobe-senpai’s locker before”
“Sure! I’m telling you that-----Eh? Don’t worry, just tell them a little bit, Mitobe”
Mitobe who has never been seen opening his mouth was changing his clothes silently when the energetic boys began speaking endlessly. When the topic changed to him, his movements unconsciously stalled. That was often the case.
Tsuchida barred the way of Mitobe who was desperately to stop Koganei, “Actually…” Koganei lowered his voice, except for Hyuuga, the rest of them surrounded Koganei. Just as Koganei was about to reveal the core of the secret,
“I~ Already~ Said~, change quickly into your clothes! You No good Second-years! (T/L: I don’t think I translated this part correctly but just imagine Hyuuga in his clutch mode scolding something at them) Don’t waste time!”
The sound of Hyuuga’s bellowing went as far as the corridor.
Clear blue skies, in mid-july.
After losing to Toou in the Inter-High (IH) preliminaries, the Seirin members have already slowly walked out of their inner pain towards their next step.
Their next goal is the Winter Cup (WC).
But first, they have to get over the summer vacations.
After changing their clothes, most of them left for their classrooms. Kuroko and Furihata went closer to Hyuuga who was at the back.
“Captain”
“Yes, is there something the matter?”
“Today’s afternoon practice, Furihata and I will arrive an hour late. We have the library committee’s work after school”
“Actually we always worked during the afternoon shift, but today we had to changed it to afterschool”
Furihata and Kuroko are both part of the school’s library committee. Members of the library committee main timing for activities are during the afternoon and after school. However, the two of them had basketball club’s activities and after negotiating with the other librarians, both were allowed to take the afternoon shift but today another member had something to do at the last minute so he had to leave it to them.
“Ok, if it’s the committee’s work you can’t help it. I will talk to the coach about it”
“We’ll leaving it to you”
Furihata and Kuroko gave Hyuuga a bow.
“Speaking of the library-----do you know?”
Hearing the conversation between the three of them, Koganei retreated a few steps and whispered to them.
“One of the seven wonders of Seirin High School is the library!”
“Eh?”
Kuroko widened his eyes, Furihata was so surprised that he turned to look at Koganei.
Koganei smirked then narrowed his eyes and whispered.
“At the end of the library there’s a preparation room, right? There obviously no air conditioning but why is it so cool all year round? Because there’s a story…..”
“W-What is it?”
Furihata’s heartbeat quickened and he eagerly asked. Koganei quivered his cat-like mouth and laughed.
“That is-----ah, I’m walking this way”
“Eh~~~~~~~”
Without knowing it they have already arrived at the staircase. The second year Koganei’s classroom is upstairs.
“It’s regretful but let’s stop here for today!”
“Eh! That just makes me curious, Koganei-senpai!”
Furihata cannot help but complain.
Koganei smiled as he ran up the stairs.
“Well, you can predict how the story goes and we can discuss it at a later date” He followed Hyuuga up the stairs.
“and that’s about it, see you after school”
“It makes me care more about it!”
“Indeed, it makes one curious”
Furihata and Kuroko held the same thinking.
“Hey! The school bell just rang”
Kagami who was walking ahead of them pressed/hastened them. Both of them hurried to their classrooms.
----
The library committee members in the afternoon shift handle borrowing and returning books procedures.
Sitting side by side in the counter, Kuroko and Furihata deal with these procedures for the incoming students.
With summer approaching, long-term borrowing would begin, hence, more students were coming to the library than usual.
Taking a break, Furihata stretched.
“Unexpectedly, there are a lot of people coming to borrow books”
Kuroko who was sitting beside Furihata was organizing a library card that was originally sandwiched between the pages of a book. The library card was thick, if it was changed into banknotes, it would definitely be enough to travel on a luxury trip.
“Most probably they are thinking of using their spare time during summer vacation to read books, challenging themselves by reading a long chapter is not a bad choice”
“I see. Kuroko, have you thought of reading books during summer vacation?”
“Yes, a book with a thick cover. The library has already acquired it. It’s said to be a masterpiece that the author came up with after 10 years. I’ve decided to muster up 120% of my determination to read it”
Glancing at Kuroko with his two hands clenched into fists and a radiant face of determination, Furihata could only exclaimed “O-Oh”
The usually quiet Kuroko become a different person as soon as the topic of books is touched on. This was what Furihata discovered after he joined the library committee with Kuroko.
In addition, when returning the books to the bookselves, Kuroko would unconsciously begin to look at all the books on the bookshelf, resulting in a slow progress in their work. When he saw a book that was open face-down, he would quietly put in a bookmark before closing the book. Such things Furihata slowly understood after joining the library committee.
It is actually tiring to juggle both committee work and club practice, but, to be able to get to know this silent teammate of his anew, to be able to discover his unknown side; Furihata felt that doing the work of a library committee member is unexpectedly meaningful.
The two are in different classes, the only time to converse aside from club activities would be in the library committee.
“That’s right, the movie that I recommended before is very interesting. The mystery movie”
“You already saw it. I only read the original work; I have not seen the movie yet”
“Looks like the movie and the original work have different endings. By the way, in the movie I originally thought the bento guy was already caught but-----” As Furihata rambled on, Kuroko covered his ears with his two hands immediately.
“Ah, I can’t reveal it?”
“Of course not. What Furihata-kun did before would make him an enemy of the mystery fans of the world”
“That’s exaggerating…”
At the time when the two were whispering to each other, someone interrupted “Excuse me-----”
“Yes? Do you want to return your books? Eh?”
Furihata lifted his head, opposite of the counter stood an unexpected character.
“Izuki-senpai, why are you here?”
“I heard both of you are on duty today so I came to see. I’m trying to find a certain book”
Izuki smiled gently, giving off an air of a senior.
“May I ask what that book is?” Kuroko inquired.
What kind of book Izuki-senpai reads, Furihata waited expectantly for his answer.
“Do you have the book called [Office Worker Senryu/上班族川柳]?” “Huh?”
Furihata was dazed for a moment so he asked again.
“What book?”
“I would like to ask whether the library has the book [Office Worker Senryu]”
“We don’t have it” Kuroko replied with an apologetic face.
“Thought so” Izuki sighed in defeat. “Someone recommended me this book as a good way for me to improve my puns, I even decided I want to read it a little”
Furihata stared at Izuki without blinking his eyes, Senpai I’m very sorry that the book you wanted is not in the library. As long as he does not open his mouth, just looking at an attractive man like his senior, he cannot associate [Office Worker Senryu] with him.
Furihata asked. “May I ask who recommended the book to you?”
“Kiyoshi”
“…”
Furihata did not know what to say for a moment because Kiyoshi just recovered recently. Furihata have not understood him. However, as Hyuuga called him a weird person before, he thought, he is indeed weird.
On his other side, Kuroko changed the subject.
“I did not think that even Izuki-senpai’s puns are still improving. Very impressive”
Kuroko said with respect.
Furihata screamed in his heart “that’s your only concern?!”
Izuki smiled shyly.
“Anything needs research. Recently, I felt that there was not enough inspiration, I may have reached my limit-----”
“Do you have any new puns?”
“The only puns I have in my joke book today are [Yuuga wa Hyuuga (T/L note: Elegant Hyuuga)] and [伊月家的好西葫芦(T/L note: someone please help me with this, I can’t translate this)]
“You’ve hit your limit”
Having said so bluntly, Furihata was terrified, Izuki on the other hand looked unconcerned, he replied in frustration “Looks like I indeed have hit my limit”
Furihata looking at the two deep replies and answers screamed in his heart “Isn’t it always this level-----?”
“How about suggesting buying the book [Office Worker Senryu]? If it’s able to go through the check, the library may acquire the book”
Saying so, Kuroko took out a form titled [Books You Want the Library to Purchase] from a drawer and placed it in front of Izuki.
Izuki started to fill in the brackets in the form.
“Is the check strict?”
“It should be but if you emphasize your reason is to learn it should be easy to pass”
“That’s great. I’ll put my whole passion onto this sheet of paper”
“Do you want to use a highlighter to underline the important parts?”
“Good idea! I must make sure the teacher in charge of checking does not miss seeing this”
“Isn’t that a method used in an arrest warrant!” Furihata screamed in his heart once again but looking at Izuki’s serious face as he highlighted the lines made him speechless in the end.
Just as Izuki was writing passionately about his pun research onto the form, “Eh? You’re all here”
Kiyoshi appeared at the entrance. In order not to hit the door frame, he even purposely curved his body to go in.
“Oh Kiyoshi, why did you come too?”
“Ah, I brought the tape”
Saying that, Kiyoshi placed all his video tapes onto the counter.
The library also has some tapes that could be borrowed, not CD but video tapes, probably something that someone donated to the school.
Furihata was about to do the procedure for checking out the tapes when he could not help but feel shocked.
“These are all Rakugo” (T/L note: Rakugo is a Japanese folk art performance that uses humorous words and actions in addition to an interesting ending to make the audience laugh)
All the tape boxes had the words ‘RAKUGO’ written in big letters.
Kroko took one of the boxes of tapes and sighed.
“Un, they’re antiques. Very much like Kiyoshi-senpai style, not a bad hobby”
“Oh, I really do seem like that?”
Kiyoshi laughed cheerfully. Unable to understand the meaning of Kiyoshi’s words, Kuroko inquired, “That’s not the case?”
“I didn’t borrow these. Riko and Hyuuga borrowed them for my sake”
“Coach and captain?”
“They gave them to me during my stay in the hospital. Saying it looks like something I would enjoy and so borrowed them for me”
“I see…”
Imagining Riko and Hyuuga trying their hardest to think of a way to comfort Kiyoshi, it’s really makes him glad. Kuroko and Furihata could not help feeling warmth in their hearts.
“But I’ve never heard rakugo before so I had to listen a few times before I understood. I also didn’t have a tape recorder so I had to invest some money to buy one” Kiyoshi scratched the back of his head and smiled in embarrassment.
“Isn’t that giving you more trouble!?” Furihata and Kuroko grew such subtle feelings but looking at how happy Kiyoshi was, both were speechless. Izuki even vowed in his heart to definitely keep this a secret from his good friends Riko and Hyuuga.
“About that, let me help you with checking them in”
While Furihata recorded the return date on Kiyoshi’s tapes and library loan card , he also took a glance at Kiyoshi’s reading card, besides the tapes there were also a bunch of Dazai related works, as the writing is not the same, he assumed that this is probably Kiyoshi’s interest.
Kuroko moved the tapes on the return pushcart, when he suddenly thought of something and moved the tapes back onto the counter in front of Izuki.
“Izuki-senpai. Do you want to try listening to rakugo?”
“Eh? Me?”
“If it’s to improve your puns, rakugo pieces/scripts makes a valuable research material”
“What are these scripts?” Furihata asked.
“It’s the point of the joke” Kuroko explained. (T/L note: again, I don’t think I translated this right)
“I’m not sure whether [Office Worker Senryu] would be purchased so why don’t you take these to learn first?”
“I see. Then…I’ll try?”
Kiyoshi also recommended “Un,Un, not bad, these are quite interesting”
“Then I’ll study these thoroughly and showcase my masterpiece during the summer camp!”
Izuki smiled happily.
“I look forward to it”
As always Kuroko had no expression on his face when he said that, making Furihata unable to tell whether he was serious or joking.
Not right, Furihata remembered suddenly that Kuroko could not make jokes, looks like he really is looking forward to Izuki’s new puns.
Please don’t set the difficulty level too high, Furihata criticized in his heart. Just then, he recalled Izuki’s earlier words again.
“Summer camp…” he murmured softly.
“Is something wrong, Furihata-kun?” even if it’s soft, Kuroko was still able to hear it.
“Ah, i-it’s n-nothing! Urm, Izuki-senpai. I’ll help you check these out”
Furihata took the library card from Izuki’s hands and started the procedure. Just as he was passing the tapes to Izuki,
“Oh, everyone’s here”
This time, it was Hyuuga who appeared at the entrance.
“Hyuuga, you also came to borrow books?” Kiyoshi asked.
“No, today I came to look at the new monthly. Kuroko, the new monthly of this month, is it here yet?”
“Urm, over that side on the board is the list of new books, but, this month we did not acquire any of the books Hyuuga-senpai wants”
Hearing Kuroko’s reply, Hyuuga’s shoulders drooped in sadness.
“I see, I came for nothing…”
“What kind of books are you searching for?” Izuki asked.
“The warring states period kind of book. I thought the new monthly was here”
“Captain read all the books on the warring states period and is now awaiting the new monthly” Kuroko further explained.
“All? That’s amazing, Hyuuga!”
Kiyoshi raised his voice because he was too shocked. At that time, he incurred the sharp gazes of all those in the library. Hyuuga, Izuki and Furihata quickly bowed their heads in apology.
“Idiot, your voice is too loud! Your figure is already standing out!”
Hyuuga lowered his voice and attacked Kiyoshi’s waist with a hand jab. Kiyoshi muttered an apology “Sorry, I accidentally…”
“But, hearing you’ve read all the warring states period books in the library, who wouldn’t jump up in shock!?”
Furihata helped Kiyoshi to say a few words in his defence. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Kiyoshi nodded his head in a serious manner “Exactly!”
“Reading them all isn’t something a normal human can do. That’s amazing, Hyuuga”
“How do I put it, getting praised by you does not make me happy one bit”
“Huh, why?”
“I keep feeling that it’s some sort of conspiracy”
“Ahaha, this is also…” Izuki laughed wryly. Kiyoshi naurally would come up with some calculating words, it is this Kiyoshi that made Hyuuga feel uneasy.
“I’m complimenting you from the bottom of my heart…”
Kiyoshi lowered his head in loneliness.
“However, maybe the best reader in our basketball club is Hyuuga!”
Hearing Izuki’s words, Hyuuga immediately perked up his ears.
“Well~~~it’s not wrong…, my library card is already used all the way to the back”
With his glasses glinting, Hyuuga took out his own library card in one swift movement and showed it to Kuroko and Furihata.
Every new school year, the students would be given a new library card but in just a span of a few months, Hyuuga’s card from the back and front were already squeezed full of book names and at the card’s right hand corner was the card number [3].
“You already used until the third card…that’s amazing, captain!”
Furihata gazed at Hyuuga with respect. Although he is part of the library committee, Furihata’s reading card only had three lines.
“That’s right, that’s right, respect me more!”
Hyuuga crossed his arms, nodding his head in satisfaction.
“By the way, this is my library card”
Kuroko took the opportunity to show his own library card. Kuroko’s card was only used one side but at the right hand corner the card number is
“Eh!10!”
Everyone widened their eyes to make sure they did not see the wrong number. The library card dropped soundlessly from Hyuuga’s hands.
Watching Izuki, Kiyoshi and Hyuuga who hung his head leave, Furihata exclaimed, “Kuroko, you’re unexpectedly very competitive!”
“Is that so?” Kuroko replied emotionlessly.
Furihata smiled and shrugged, and then got into his busy mode. Because soon, they’re going to enter the library busiest periods ----- ten minutes before the end of the lunch break.
The students who ate finished their lunch swarmed the library room, the borrowing and returning books procedures, the counter welcomed its peak period.
“Right! Let’s work hard!”
“Yes! I’ll work hard to make sure Furihata-kun’s queue line is not long”
“Okay, I’ll help to let everyone notice Kuroko”
“Un, I’m counting on you”
The students filed in wave by wave and the chaotic ten minutes thus began.
The two of them worked together, managing to complete the procedures without delay and stepping out of the library only when the bell rang.
Along the corridor, they saw two familiar figures again.
“Kawahara! Fukuda!”
Hearing Furihata calling them, the two who were walking in front turned around.
“Oh, Furihata. Kuroko. Good work”
“Is Kagami-kun not with you all? He said he’ll be joining you two for lunch” Kuroko asked.
“We did eat together. But that guy was called to the office afterwards”
Furihata and Kuroko caught up with them and the four of them headed to their classrooms together.
“Looks like it must be about his grades?”
Furihata guessed and Kuroko expressed his agreement.
“It is a possibility. Kagami-kun’s final grades were a little severe”
“It couldn’t be just ‘a little’, right?”
“True, it must not be just ‘a little’, why do you think we call him Bakagami”
With the exception of Kuroko, everyone else nodded their heads in agreement.
“Oh right, we passed by Captain earlier, he looked depressed, what happened?” facing the worried Fukuda and Kawahara, Furihata glanced at Kuroko.
Kuroko, feeling awkward, scratched his cheek with a finger. Seeing this, Fukuda had a bad feeling.
“It couldn’t be because Kagami’s grades were so bad that he can’t go to the summer camp”
“This, actually…”
Furihata explained what happened in the library to them. The two laughed loudly afterwards.
“Kuroko, you can’t be serious!”
“You overdid it!”
Glancing at the two who were laughing out loud, Kuroko tilted his head, making the two of them laugh even harder.
“But, Captain and Kuroko, you’re both amazing. With our daily busy activities, you guys can still read so many books”
“That’s right, with our recent lifestyle, its sleep, school and basketball on repeat. Being still able to read books when you get home, that’s simply of a different level”
Kawahara’s words reminded Furihata of the troubles that had been worrying him for a long time.
He has been hiding it since that day. Not knowing if he should tell someone about it. However, the result of his hesitation, only one word could match it “That’s right, I guess”
He did not know whether he was smiling just as naturally or not.
Afterschool, Furihata and Kuroko went to the library together again. Standing before the library entrance was a familiar figure. Mitobe was sticking his head inside as if searching for something.
“Mitobe-senpai, is something the matter?”
Hearing Kuroko’s voice, Mitobe instantly relaxed and turned to face them. “Are you looking for someone?”
Mitobe nodded his head while looking at Kuroko and Furihata. Looks like he was looking for the two of them, Kuroko and Furihata exchanged glances.
“May I ask which book are you looking for?”
Mitobe shook his head and passed something that look like a roll to Furihata. It was a big piece of rolled up paper, opening up the A3–sized paper, in the middle were the words written in big black letters
[Do not underestimate heatstroke!]
After Furihata read out the words that were edited to appear neat and nice, Mitobe nodded his head.
“Could it be that this is a poster made by the health committee?”
Kuroko looked up at Mitobe who was nodding his head with excitement,
Although Furihata did not understand the phrase ‘to be enlighten’ before, he remembered that Mitobe is part of the health committee.
At the end of the poster was the stamp of approval from the student council. Looks like it is an official poster. Mitobe brought it over to Kuroko and Furihata. Which means—
“Do you want us to place the poster in the library?”
Furihata asked Mitobe whose face instantly shone and nodded his head desperately.
“I understand. We will pin it up in the most conspicuous spot in the library” Kuroko said.
Mitobe bowed to them.
After seeing Mitobe leave, Furihata had a sudden small sense of accomplishment.
“It feels like it’s the first time I had a proper conversation with Mitobe-senpai”
“Oh, what’s wrong? The two of you are just standing there”
This cheerful voice could only belong to Koganei. Beside Koganei stood Tsuchida, looks like the both of them were on their way to the basketball club. Kuroko told them about the conversation they had with Mitobe.
“Eh, being able to communicate properly with his juniors, Mitobe must be very happy”
“That’s right, that’s right, from now on, we’ll still have lots of chances to communicate with each other. Mitobe is actually a person with many emotions. Hearing him speak is interesting”
“Eh? Listen…”
Koganei’s warning made the two of them freeze. Seeing the situation, Tsuchida smiled wryly and said “Well, don’t think too much of it, a normal communication would do. I’ve also never heard Mitobe’s voice before and have never felt difficulties with communicating with him”
“Oh…oh”
“Compared to that, about this topic, have you heard?” Koganei’s line of sight kept changing from one to the other.
“Which topic are you referring to?”
“The library being one of the school’s seven wonders!”
“Ah!” Furihata cried out, he had forgotten about it.
“Have not heard it yet”
Koganei’s mouth twisted up in an evil laugh.
Koganei loves stories about the supernatural, not just listening but also love talking about it, he enjoyed the reactions of those who heard these stories for the first time.
“Then, let me tell it to you! Where did I stop last time?”
“The library’s preparation room is cooling for all the seasons of a year”
“Then, the continuation” Koganei began to lower his voice.
“This is a story from before the summer vacation of last year. The rumors about the library being cooling for all the seasons were circulated not long ago. Two boys skipped their classes to hide in the preparation room because they thought it would be the best hiding spot since it is often empty. Just as the two were about to talk high (?), they were suddenly sleepy. Time fly by quickly without them knowing it, one of the boys woke up. The morning rays filtered in but the room was cooling. However, the boys were sweating profusely. It was obviously not hot but they continue sweating. It was even hard to breathe. In his confusion, he tried to find his friend. ---he is already not there. Don’t tell me, he went back first? But his bag was obviously still there. It was at this moment that he realized, why his friend vanished, why he was sweating so much, actually he already understood earlier, he just wasn’t willing to face reality. Actually when he woke up he already heard it. The sigh that came from the cement ground. The bloodied hands of his friend that were clutching onto his legs refusing to let go-----”
“Gyaa————————————” “Oh————————————!!”
Hearing the sudden yell, Furihata was so shocked that he jumped up high and fled behind Kuroko.
“W-W-Wha…”
He was so shocked that he started to stutter. Koganei smiled with satisfaction.
“Not bad. Nice reaction, Furihata”
“Seeing you scared like this. It appears that my supporting attack was effective” Tsuchida also smiled proudly.
“But Kuroko was completely unfazed. I really wanted to see your scared expression”
Koganei said in frustration.
“I’m very sorry because I don’t know why I should be scared” Kuroko scratched his face.
“Do you two always tell this story together?”
“Yep, yep. One tells the story and the other suddenly shrieks. What do you think, it’s excellent right?”
“That’s unfair, senpai! I was really scared”
Furihata protested making Tsuchida feel bad and apologize to him.
“But it’s no problem, I was also scared the first time Koganei and Izuki worked together to tell me the story”
“Like Hyuuga who was so shocked that he became furious. We were scolded harshly”
“If you knew this would happen, why do you still tell the story?” Kuroko muttered. Koganei did not hear him clearly and asked him what he said but Kuroko shook his head. “It’s nothing” he said.
“What?” Koganei pouted unhappily. Then as if remembering something, he adds. “But this ghost story must have a certain truth to it. There are students who have heard the sighing sounds coming from the preparation room in reality”
“No way…”
Furihata breathed in a mouthful of cold air, glancing at Tsuchida to confirm. Tsuchida gave him a small smile “It’s true”
Don’t say it with a smile, Furihata silently criticized.
Tsuchida and Koganei thus left Furihata ‘scarred’ before they leave the library. Kuroko and Furihata started their afternoon’s library committee work.
Normally they would handle the procedures for returning and borrowing books in addition to arranging the bookshelves. But today, they had another job. Recalling the books that are due.
Before summer vacation, they had to recall the due or missing books. It is the most important job of a library committee’s member for that period of time.
Taking the student name list from their teacher, Kuroko and Furihata headed out to hurry them to return their books.
Using the namelist, they set out to find the students recorded in it. Of course there are times when they did not meet each other. At that time, they would leave a warning note titled [A Warning from the Library], informing them of the urgency to return their books.
The chances of them meeting afterschool were higher. Sometimes, recalling the books directly from the student was possible.
The both of them went inside the classroom of 2-C first.
Glancing into the classroom, the person they had to find——Aida Riko. Was not inside”
“If she’s not here” “She would be there”
Furihata and Kuroko walked towards the student council room.
As well as being the basketball club’s coach, Riko is also the vice-president of the student council. Today she should be in an ordinance conference so if they go now, they should see her.
Just as they predicted, they met Riko along the corridor leading to the student council’s room. The conference had just ended.
Riko was surprised to see them.
“Eh? I thought Hyuuga said both of you will be late going to the basketball club because of the library committee’s work”
“Yes, we came as members of the library committee”
After hearing Furihata explained all the details, Riko immediately apologized.
“Sorry, I kept borrowing and forgot about it! I’ll give them back to you now”
Kuroko and Furihata followed Riko to the classroom 2-C.
From her cupboard, Riko retrieved the forgotten books.
10 books, all related to sports training.
“Although I read finished all of them. I forgot to return because of IH. I’m sorry”
Riko lowered her head, making Furihata feel at a loss on what to do. “It’s alright, we’ll collect the books and it’ll be okay”
“Thank you so much. I borrowed the books one by one but now it’s in a pile. It must be troublesome to move these”
“Seems like it” Furihata looked at the books again. Every book was thick and had many colorful pages. Looks like it must have a certain weight to it.
“Then, we’ll recall these books. Coach, we have to stamp on your library card”
Riko passed her library card with a smile. “I’m counting on you two”
Kuroko and Furihata simply carried the books.
“Then, coach, we’ll be leaving first”
“Un, see you later”
“Ah, right” Riko suddenly remembered something and chased after Furihata.
“Furihata-kun”
“Yes?”
“About the summer camp, pass it to me earlier”
“Ah, I understand”
“Then, bye”
Saying that, Riko left for the gym.
Furihata watched her leave.
“Furihata-kun?”
Hearing Kuroko calling him, Furihata regained his senses.
“Ah, sorry, looks like I have to return to the library first”
“Okay, we have to move these books first. Eh?”
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing, really, it’s just that…coach borrowed these books and one of them is of a different category than the others”
Kuroko looked towards the book that was in Furihata’s hands.
Furihata also bent over to look at the book in his hands.
I thought all of the books were sports-related but I didn’t know there was another book sandwiched between the other books. Kuroko read the book’s name,
“Serving Full Points! Delicious Cooking…looks like a cookbook”
“I see coach originally had a girly side”
“Furihata-kun, if coach heard you, things could get dangerous”
“Then help me to keep it a secret”
“Un”
The both of them smiled.
A few days later, before the both of them could witness Riko’s delicious cooking, they would have a taste of her dangerous cooking first.
------------
After going around the school according to the namelist, the two of them retuned to the library to start organizing the returned books.
They pushed the pushcart with the books to and fro in the library, putting the books back on the selves while chatting with each other.
According to Kiyoshi’s proposal, all the starters were changed to be first years. For the first time, Furihata, Kawahara and Fukuda donned their uniforms and debuted on the court. They were nervous but the result of the match was not too bad. Riko also gave them a passing evaluation.
“Ah, once again I feel that Kagami really is amazing” Thinking back to their previous match, Furihata sighed again.
Even though they competed against each other a few times during normal practice but he had not experience this as his teammate or in competitions outside of school. He could not help but lament Kagami’s power.
The difference between himself and Kagami was too far. Speaking of Kagami-----
While checking the book number, Furihata tried to confirm
“Did you patch things up with Kagami?”
“Eh?”
“Recently, Kagami have become strange and started to play basketball by himself. I felt that something was wrong especially between the two of you. How do I say it, I’m very sorry I’m not much help”
“No such thing. I am the one that’s sorry, making you worry about me”
“Eh? You don’t have to apologize, Kuroko”
“Ah, then, thank you very much”
“Eh? Why are you thanking me?”
“Thank you for worrying about us”
“It’s normal to worry for your teammates!”
Furihata tilted his head. Truthfully, he could not do anything but worry. Getting thanked like this feels surreal.
“In my former team, nobody would bother about such a thing”
Kuroko replied dismissively, making Furihata feel an added sense of guilt.
Kuroko would not talk about himself most of the time but the fact that he rejects the Generation of Miracles’ doctrine is something everyone knows.
Furihata also knows that Kuroko had once hated basketball and thought of giving it up.
Although he was curious, he was too shy to ask so up to now he did not broached up this topic/subject. However, today, maybe-----
It is not because he was curious but because it was linked closely to himself.
“Kuroko, about that”
“Yes?”
“Have you ever thought that training is tough before?”
“Innumerous times. Yesterday’s training was also tough”
“Eh? Yesterday?”
An unexpected reply.
“I always thought Kuroko did not find the basketball club’s training as tough”
“Why would I think that? I have not become strong enough to reach that stage yet; besides, it’s that kind of demonic training. Not to brag but every time we train in swimming I would suffer from short-term memory loss”
“I don’t think this is something to brag about…”
“Oh” Kuroko smiled wryly.
“Then why do you still go on?”
Furihata wanted to know how Kuroko would respond.
Kuroko replied quietly in his usual tone.
“I don’t know whether this counts as an answer. No matter how tiring it is, I want to continue playing basketball because right now, with Seirin, with everyone, I want to play basketball with all of you”
“Here?”
“When we win, I want to slap my palms (T/L note: I think he means a high five) with everyone. When we lose, I want to bear the regrets together. This kind of mutual trust between teammates exists. That’s why I want to play basketball with coach, captain, Izuki-senpai, Mitobe-senpai, Koganei-senpai, Tsuchida-senpai, Kiyoshi-senpai, Furihata-kun, Kawahara-kun, Fukuda-kun and with Kagami-kun”
“I see”
He didn’t know where he was influenced; Furihata could not help but nod his head.
Kuroko who work hard in practices because he trusts his teammates is too dazzling and is indeed ‘very far’ from himself.
“I’m sorry. It feels like I’m the only one talking non-stop”
“No.no. I was the one asking from the start anyway. Sorry for asking such a weird question”
The two got shy and smiled, beginning to finish their work faster with quicker movements.
After finishing their work, the two of them pushed the empty pushcart back to the counter. Along the way, Kuroko seemed to have remembered something, saying
“Furihata-kun, if it’s possible, could you accompany me for training during the summer vacation?”
“Eh? Me?”
“Yes. During the previous practice match I felt that the pass between me and Furihata-kun is not stable yet. Let’s take advantage of the summer vacation to overcome it”
“But, rather than fixing it with a person like me, wouldn’t it be more effective to fix with Izuki-senpai”
“Of course I will practice with Izuki-senpai too but when I stand on the same court as Furihata-kun, I also want us to have the perfect co-ordination”
What Kuroko said was natural but Furihata felt his fingertips go cold and his blood freeze.
“W-Will I get to go on the court? M-Me?”
Although he said it as if it was nothing, he was still hopeful he could go onto the court.
In a sense, he was placing all his hopes onto Kuroko’s certain answer. (T/L note: it is a bit confusing here not sure what he means) However
“I want to go onto the court with Furihata-kun again because playing basketball with Furihata-kun is fun”
At this moment, Furihata was called by the teacher in charge of the library. He left Kuroko to go over.
Thank goodness he was called over, Furihata thought. Or he would embarrass himself crying in front of Kuroko.
Is it okay to always stay the same? He would ask himself sometimes.
It’s not like he wanted to become a professional basketball player, why does he still tire himself half to death with training? Strictly speaking, he chose to play basketball because of his will.
Of course he like basketball the teammates he has now.
But, giving all his time to basketball, is it wise of him?
Perhaps, in other areas, he could be more active. (T/L note: meaning he could excel in other areas)
He started to have this kind of thinking from the practice match a few days ago. He was completely crushed by his teammate Kagami’s strength.
Kagami has a strong vision (T/L note: probably talking about his goal), unlike him, Furihata was beginning to feel lost.
Should he continue playing basketball?
Furihata who was given a task by the teacher in charge walked into the preparation room at the back of the library, put his hand into a pocket and took out the acknowledgement form by his parents for the summer camp. He always kept it with him without submitting it.
If he quit the club he wouldn’t need to submit it. That was what Furihata thought.
With trembling hands, he clutched onto the form. The blood flowing to his fingertips seemed to have become ice-cold.
At the same time, his chest was burning with joy.
Kuroko’s words made him extremely happy.
Furihata did not think that he would be able to go onto the court. ‘When’ we go onto the court together again, however, Kuroko has always believed that he will.
He should answer this trust.
I must keep training to increase my self-confidence and courage.
“I’ll do my best!” Furihata clenched his fists tightly.
The room was cooling yet Furihata was burning with fighting spirit. That’s right; inside of this cooling room…Furihata felt his body temperature sharply declining.
This is that unbelievable preparation room that is cold all year round.
“Ah, I must hurry and finish this task so that I can play basketball” Mustering up his courage, Furihata said as he headed deeper towards the preparation room.
The few bookshelves near the ceilings, the narrow passage only allows one person to go through at a time.
Whoever hides here or hides something here. Probably no one would find out.
“Ah…..what am I thinking?”
Furihata immediately shook his head, trying to shake off Koganei’s words. At this moment,
“Wuwuwuwuwuuwuwuwuwuwu!” (T/L note: well, this is strange. in Chinese, 55555 definitely means sobbing sounds but later furihata describes them as sighing sounds)
From inside came sighing sounds, Furihata cried as he ran out.
“It appears ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
Crying out loud as he ran out of the preparation room, Furihata shocked Kuroko who was sitting at the counter. A moment after Kuroko raised an eyebrow, he became calm again.
“Furihata-kun. You’re too loud”
“A-A-A-Appeared”
Furihata was practically leaning against the counter, his trembling fingers pointing at the preparation room.
“S-S-S-Sighing sounds!”
“That is to say the one Koganei-senpai was talking about?”
“That’s it!”
Kuroko immediately came out from the counter and walked until he was beside the frightened Furihata.
“Looks like we need to confirm it”
“No way!”
Ignoring Furihata’s warning, Kuroko walked straight towards the preparation room. Not wanting to let Kuroko go alone, Furihata had no choice but to follow him from behind cautiously.
Coming to the front of the preparation room, the door that had been opened earlier by Furihata.
“It’s locked?!”
“Because of anti-gravity so it’s locked (T/L note: not really sure what it means, perhaps it’s one of those doors that slowly close itself because of the spring/hinge?)”
“A-A-Are we opening the door?”
“Yes”
“B-But!”
Kuroko wasted no time in opening the door.
Furihata widened his eyes.
They should see the big bookshelves upon opening the door but it’s blocked by something right now.
“What are you guys doing?”
“Kagami-kun?” “Kagami!?”
Inside of the preparation room stood Kagami who was about to open the door.
“Why are you here?”
Kagami scratched the back of his head.
“…Remedial”
“Huh?”
Seeing as his body size was not proportionate to his soft voice, Furihata asked again, Kagami replied somewhat reluctantly
“I said I’m having remedial!”
“Remedial? Eh? Why?”
“My final exam grades was a little bad”
Kagami pouted.
“Then why are you having it here? If it’s remedial, shouldn’t it be together with the teacher?”
Kuroko asked while he walked into the preparation room. Kagami also talked as he walked with Furihata tightly following from behind Kuroko.
“Even though it’s remedial, it’s just a few pieces of exam papers. The teacher said the classroom is too hot to concentrate and recommended this place”
“Certainly, this place is famous for being cooling throughout the year”
“Eh? Is that so?”
It appears that Kagami does not know about the seven wonders rumor.
The three passed through the passageway, coming to a long table which is located the furthest inside. A pile of exam papers and a pencil case belonging to Kagami were spread out on top.
Kuroko picked up one of those papers, it was almost empty.
“What an uncertain future” “None of your business!”
Kagami looked depressed and frowned.
“Were you saying something as you did the questions?”
“Huh?”
Kuroko’s out of the blue question made Kagami feel at a loss but Furihata who suddenly understood let out a cry “Ah!”
“You mean that was actually Kagami’s voice?”
“Probably” Kuroko was certain. Kagami denied this immediately.
“I wasn’t sighing! Well…maybe I did say something along the lines of ‘Hai~~~so difficult’”
We’re not wrong, this is it! Furihata sighed in relief.
“Kagami, don’t scare other people! Sheesh”
“Huh? I already said I said nothing. But that sorrowful cry earlier really scared me”
“Ah…”
Furihata thought back to the earlier when he lost his composure, he could not help but hang his head. Seeing the situation, Kagami widened his eyes.
“Eh? That sorrowful cry. That was you? You’re over exaggerating”
“Sorry…”
“No need to apologize…well, it’s normal to drop this”
Kagami picked up a paper from the table and passed it to Furihata.
“This dropped along the passageway. It’s probably yours”
It’s the acknowledgement form from his parents. Furihata took the paper immediately.
“Thank you, Kagami”
“Oh. Speaking of which, hurry up and submit it or you can’t go to the camp”
The corners of Furihata’s mouth tilt upwards into a smile.
There is also someone here who believes that I and everyone else will be able to go onto the court together.
“I will. Later when we go for basketball practice I will submit it”
Kagami looked at Furihata as he smiled and said,
“Let’s work hard for the summer training camp”
“Yes!”
“Before that, please work hard to better your grades Kagami-kun” “None of your business!”
Seeing how Kuroko criticize Kagami automatically at the right time and how Kagami delivered his answer, Furihata smiled.
Walking out of the slightly cold preparation room, the outside air is hot and humid.
The three freshmen of Seirin would soon welcome their first summer in their High School.
-------------------------------------------
We have finally come to the end of this chapter. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I have (despite those translation errors that i may have made). This chapter explores more of the relationship between Kuroko and Furihata that we never got to see in the manga and anime.
I remember this one episode in season 3 where Furihata goes onto the court to face off Akashi and everyone was freaking out over how ‘evil’ Riko was. If you paused the video at the right time, Kuroko is seen smiling. He believes Furihata is capable of going onto the court together with Seirin and he did. Although his opponent is Akashi, Kuroko truly believes Furihata can help his teammates even if it’s just a little bit.
Well, this is Ame signing off until the next translation I’m interested in.

Morning 8 a.m.
New York seems to be just waking up.
A winter breeze blew through a corner of Little Italy street, there were three people wearing western suits who looked to be tired from work, their goal was to sell the stalls as soon as possible, there was also a boy who wore a school uniform often and seemed polite.
There was a variety of gorgeous red, white and green signs belonging to cafés and restaurants swaying with the snow.
Such a peaceful street corner, but gathered there were policemen in blue uniforms and black police cars, looks like they were surrounding something. The atmosphere was one of unrest…… but the people passing by the street did not seem to notice such an atmosphere.
Looking over the policemen heads, a tall Italian young man was setting up a large camera. Every time he pressed the shutter, the policemen would wave their arms like they were chasing away some noisy insects, the young man does not seem bothered.
"Hey" he said with a causal voice while facing the camera lens, not knowing who he was calling out to.
"We discovered another unusual corpse today, was it different from the one found yesterday that was wearing red high heels?...Violent gangs, revenge killings have increased from year to year. Those guys have become accustomed to murder, do they not feel tired of it ...”
Because the other person did not reply, his mouth appear to bend exaggeratedly.
The person being surrounded turned his attention back to the corpse that was beaten like a beehive using the machine guns used by the violent gangs as if he was looking for something.
“Ara~~Kujo?”
He pushed the policeman aside.
“Kujo?”
"Well ...... the dark sky has already begun to brighten. That is if you hear gunshots. Like voices. That’s the case, however, what does the region's oldest inhabitants think about the recent brutal gang? I don’t know where the voice of a decent man comes from"
Towards the police gathered in front of a small Asian Italian restaurant, a person listened politely while squatted in front of an elderly woman who was half his height.
His pitch-black hair with bangs extending outwards flowed softly with the winter wind.
He wore a navy blue suit on top with flannel trousers for the bottom, wearing an old coat and a hat that was a few decades old. The news reporter’s black eyes looked like they were attracting the darkness.
The people of Japan usually have short statures.
The first impression made was that he has round eyes with a clear and candid gaze, a gentle sight; candid gaze that is like a hit to the human heart.
The young man kept calling “Kujo……Kujo……Kujo”,at that time,a group of new police cars were turning around the corner of the street. The police were instantly dispelled off. The short Japanese thanked the elderly woman while the tall Italian photographer put the camera on his head jokingly and left in a panic.
“Eh, did you take a nice picture of the scene, Nicholas?”
“Probably definitely no problem, don’t worry~~”
“Eh..probably..definitely...which one is it?”
He continued the conversation while walking in the bustling streets of Little Italy.
The Japanese young man was——Kujo Kazuya.
After leaving his home country of wars, he gradually migrated to a new country over a few months. He started his new life by being a trainee news reporter for the newspaper, <<Daily Load>>. The man beside him swinging his long arms was his partner Nicholas Sacco, a trainee photographer. He was born in Little Italy but was a true New Yorker. Tall, yellow-green coat, big eyes. Around the lips grew a bushy beard.
Kazuya walked while flipping through his research notes, Nicolas appears satisfied.
“Ah~there are especially a lot of gang murder-related cases this month. It seems like every day is the same”
“Un” (TL note: the sound made when agreeing with someone)
“Ah, the new issue of the <<TIME>> magazine is out. Kujo, read it. I don’t understand the language”
“Un……Ah……Alright~”
The difference between Little Italy and Chinatown.
The Italian town surrounded in vivid colours of red, green and white Chinese (TL note: not sure about this) characters, mixed with oriental style painting landscapes. The taste of food across the two blocks stimulates one’s sense of smell.
Nicholas took out a TIME magazine from a juggling (?) corner.
On the cover was a middle aged man’s left cheek, wearing a tilted classy hat around a red cashmere scarf.
“What the hell, this week’s cover is 伽虏博•博斯 (TL: a name) who’s not as good as an actor” Nicholas muttered unhappily.
“Well, he’s a Godfather now, but why would the underground mafia end up on a magazine’s cover? I can’t figure that out”
“Poof~ you’re like an Italian”
“Oh, I hate those underground and whatever, because of them the street is so dangerous that it’s hard to breathe. Well, it seems that recently they’re engaged in charity work” Nicholas frowned.
Kazuya who have gotten the magazine, flipped through the pages. “It really says something about them doing charity work, burning something at the doorway of the Church. Well, I’m guessing it’s just all an act……plus the youngsters thinking, um, he likes exotic animals, if 伽虏博•博斯 is poor then rearing such an animal is only a dream. To say he’s a commoner……Well ~ Well ~ Well ~ in obtaining someone’s reputation, isn’t this news suspicious?”
“Maybe, and concerning exotic animals, regardless of whether it’s good or bad, boys obviously like it~”
Nicholas placed the camera on his head while resting and raising his voice to speak.
Kazuya seemed to have thought of something and become silent.
“Is that so, hmm, so that’s how it is”
“Cut, right, hey~ there’s more, there’s more”
“Eh , wait ~ the story of the strange gang BOSS has already ended. Compared to this, the upcoming presidential election, the power to send competitors is Gold Stage’s specialty. The puritans’ sons, has an extensive apple land rich family “
“Ah, I know, he appears to be a good person with his smiling face, I have a good sense of goodwill towards this person”
Kazuya couldn’t help but glance towards Gold Stage‘s photo.
“Indeed, he looks like a ‘clean’ celebrity who does not collude with gangsters and economic oligarchy. Next up would be the news of the establishment of the FBI!”
Looks like a mystery gentleman named Hoover became the first 任长 Officer.
“Well, let’s not bother about that. What’s next?”
“You look like you have completely no interest in the FBI. Next~ ah, there’s news about the arts”
“Read it, read it~~”
“Hey, it’s the topic about Hollywood as the representative for <<River Valentine>>. On the surface, he’s the hero of Italian immigrants. Anyway, no matter what they say the film seems to be starring friendship about a newcomer from Europe ~”
Kazuya read the news with a correct posture when suddenly Nicholas looked up at the winter sky as if he lost interest. Then, he wordlessly took the magazine from Kazuya’s hands and with a surprising method, threw the magazine back to its original position.
Despite the kiosk’s boss angry yells of “Hey! Nicholas! You’re not buying!?” he walked away without looking back.
Kazuya hurriedly apologized and bought the magazine. He also bought a lot of the boss’ daughter hand-made coffee cake. As a result, just like “you bought so many things again?” kind of response, the gifts he received slowly increased.
While chasing behind Nick, he used a very serious tone saying “You, recently I know about the things regarding you”
Through Little Italy’s Chinatown, you can see a tall Empire State Building to the right while walking towards the west from the south of Manhattan. Next, you can see a lot of modern reinforced concrete buildings where the octagonal windows of these high-rise buildings are bordered by gold which shines brightly. There are mystical stone carvings on the walls in the center just like a portrait.
Through the small green garden, you can reach a place called newspaper law as its full name. There is also a simple news design company building which is just like a tree in a forest situated tightly next to the high-rise buildings. Men and women dressed in western clothes, people driving black-coloured cars. All of them walking about in a hurry.
Kazuya rode an old black bicycle when Nicholas said “see you later” to Kazuya before waving his arms roughly and with the camera under his arms, entered the news office <<Daily Load>>building.
“Un, I’m going home for a while, I don’t know why but I’m a little worried”
“Hey, not again…” Nicholas chuckled from behind.
Kazuya rode his bicycle towards the back buildings.
______ Early 1930
Finally reaching winter at the recent end of the World War 2.
Unlike most countries in Europe and Asia, the war did not reach the new continent. We call it the new continent the United States and it is now on the road of rapid prosperity. The people of the new continent saw the success in their dreams after feeling fear first. If you talk about the country's history with other people, it’s generally just like ending puberty and entering a period of golden adolescence. Declaring that they would depart from superstition and magical era of the old continent, the new continent is now dominated by materialistic desires. And floating in the east of the mainland of the United States is Manhattan with the heart of a young prince, a land full of hope.
A street which cannot be said to be small and quiet.
Shallow New York.
The air in winter is fresh no matter where one is.
He left [Newspaper Law] and walked down the east side of Manhattan Island over the flowing lover river and atop the Brooklyn Bridge.
The working class people passed by in waves.
Living in a city where the people always seemed to be busy. Kazuya is one of them.
Kazuya stood up and stared at the rest of the distance of the bridge he has not covered yet on his bicycle. Stare…staring…still staring
He was a little short of breath; the Brooklyn Bridge is very long. The sea breze blew over his freezing cold body, pulling gently on the collar of his P coat. Kazuya continued pedaling his bicycle , his dark bangs swaying as he continued towards the other end of the bridge.
Finally crossing the bridge.
At last, the bicycle stopped right in front of some rental apartments, which looked older than the other buildings and was a bit slanted. The black door of the apartment had a handle that looked like a lying dog, the stone steps leading up to the door was up to ten, the mosaic tiles that decorated it were old and some incomplete and outside the door a wooden flower pot was placed.
The iron gates to the door was marked with the words –
<New York / Brooklyn / Cranberry Street>
Kazuya parked his bicycle and carefully locked it.
At the same time, to say it was the first floor but in fact, half of the room was underground, a window opened and a person could be seen. With blue eyes sparkling, a lovely face with long freckles -is this an energetic boy or a tomboyish girl?
“Ah, you’re back!”
Although the tone was of a boy, the voice was of a young girl.
“Ah, Administrator! I’m back but going out soon again…”
Kazuya returned the greeting seriously-
“Kujo-kun, right? That beautiful girl is also waiting for you to come back today”
Kazuya have not finished his bow when he stood up, stammering and even his face became red.
With her task of “teasing the guest who moved into the fourth floor not too long ago” completed, the Administrator winked and closed the window.
Kazuya could only say “Thank you”. Afterwards, he carried the mountain-like pile of cakes with all his strength while shouting “Hey—are you still there?” and climbing up the stairs.
“--Victorique?”
Low ceilings, plastered walls, black and white mosaic tiled floors, no lights in the hallway - it was dark once the big door behind him closed. Kazuya placed his hand on the wall and naturally walked along it. He did not slip or fall down as he climbed the familiar stairs.
Each floor of this small building have a room facing outwards and another room facing the small courtyard inside. Kazuya carried his baggage and went up the highest floor - to the faded pink door on the fourth floor facing the outside room.
"Victori...que...? Eh?"
Kazuya didn’t finish talking when he kicked something, and the pink, orange, red, yellow, and green cakes in his hands flew toward the dark ceiling in the dimly lit room.
"Woah?!"
Kazuya didn't know who piled the heavy books at his feet and cause him to accidentally fall. Looking as if nothing happened, Kazuya stood up, calmly dusted himself off and picked up the cakes.
Once he opened the door, he could see the kitchen. Inside, there are 2 rooms from red to black. Behind one of the rooms, the sound of a radio could be heard.
There are simple cabinets in the kitchen as well as a slender table and two chairs. Such furniture were typical of an apartment for poor immigrants from the Old Continent.
The back of the square chair used by Kazuya had become a trousers rack, and now it is also neatly placed with travelling pants. In a farther place, it is said that in a small African country, only the queen can sit in a triangular chair with a backrest that was popular in the past. What kind of person is suitable for sitting in this chair...?
Kazuya carried his colourful mountain-like cakes while calling,
"Hey, Victorique, are you still here?"
-with his hand on the door of the red room, just at that moment, a sudden ringing sound could be heard. It was followed by the Administrator who gave out the bills voice.
"Hey, Kujou-Kun! The room rental have to be given by tomorrow! I hope you haven't forgotten it!"
—— That kind of voice came downstairs.
"......I know! I didn't forget, Miss Administrator"
Kazuya replied while lowering his head.
"If you won't hand it over, I'll have to chase you out!"
"Un, yes......"
The ringing sound of the bell finally stopped.
Kazuya relaxed his shoulders and placed his hand on the doorknob once again.
The door slowly opened.
The sound of the radio seemed to come from the ground. Kazuya was scared by this unknown voice and closed his eyes.
This square room is larger than the kitchen, with a patterned cloth on the wall. The old wooden floor had a gorgeous four-foot swivel chair in the shape of a bird's claw holding an oval, and a lovely peach-colored lounge chair displayed. In addition to the round window facing the walkway and the small heater, the rest of the wall is filled with bookcases, and the bookcases are full of books.
Above the bookcase, there are all kinds of unknown black, white, wooden, square-shaped ovals... and all kinds of radios that are broadcasting in various languages at the same time.
Silvery hair fell from the swivel chair like a galaxy that flowed through the night sky, forming a soft vortex on the floor. Red, purple, pink dry petals are scattered everywhere and these petals are intertwined with the radio like they are doing a forbidden dance under the silver light.
Kazuya sighed with relief as he looked at the owner of those long silver hair.
With a petite and beautiful figure, it was like looking at a delicate ceramic doll. Her pale face is as quiet as the ancient creatures, and at the same time she had emerald green eyes like that of an old man who has lived for a hundred years. In addition, she have a small and nice nose, smooth cherry lips that made everything pale in comparison to her beauty. Because it is too beautiful, there was an incredible feeling in the atmosphere, like being shrouded in the tragic atmosphere of destiny -
The dark velvet skirt is decorated with crimson lace on the edges, and the red creases on the chest are like the waves of the night, and the skirts are filled with luxurious red roses. The colourful hair accessories on her silver hair and her slender feet which are wrapped in long stockings, and the black patent leather shoes decorated with violets made people who looked at her speechless. She looked pale as if her limbs would break with just a stretch. However, there was a heavy book on her lap. At the same time, English, French, Chinese and even jazz broadcasts that would make ordinary people have a headache could be heard. Her eyes were also looking at the books sprawled on the floor in a fan-like shape. Age unknown, like a girl but also like an old woman, like a demon-like mystery creature...she is......
- Victorique de Blois.
The sweet scent floating around was probably from the dry petals of red, pink and purple that was scattered on the floor.
After some time, the "Victorique" that crossed the vast Pacific ocean and escaped to a corner of New York had her beauty polished to become more non human-like. It was gushing out like a night fountain sprouting water.
The huge number of books and radios tangled with her silvery hair, it was as if it was a man made creature of the future.
Without looking at him and with a dull voice, she said-
"Oh...it's Kujou"
Kazuya smiled wryly and said:
"Un, it's me, Victorique"
"Un..."
"You must really like these radio broadcasts if you can hear all those broadcasts at the same time clearly"
"Humph"
She made a noise. Then, she turned her green eyes around and as if looking at a beautiful dream, said:
"But you're the one that rushed out early in the morning to collect information on the mixed war? You and your partner Nick-kun are very hardworking, working so very hard for materialistic issues such as rent, meals, and electricity. Ah. Ah - Ha - Ha -"
Even Kazuya could get angry. He switched off the radios and started nagging:
"Victorique, even if you don’t care about yourself and you are impatient, I won’t believe you? Because you are the one who should go to the <Grey Wolf Detective Agency> to start work, isn't it? But it’s noon now, I have a hunch that you're just being lazy...eh, EH, wait a minute, Victorique?"
Kazuya stopped his preach and changed the subject in disbelief.
"How do you know that I went with Nick to collect information about the mafia?"
"Humph, that's easy"
Victorique finally looked seriously at him and continued speaking emotionlessly.
Not correct......her face was full of pride.
She placed her exquisite lizard-shaped golden pipe to the side of her mouth. While sucking it, she explained.
"The <wellspring of wisdom> told me"
"Ah...that...not again, such big words, from the beginning, you're always like this..."
Ignoring him, Victorique continued.
"Kujou! Aside from work, why would you go to Little Italy? Because you're a honest, uninteresting, hopeless fool who stood in the streets with the Italians and stuck out like water and oil. Nevertheless, you still carried those Italian cupcakes you bought from the street. In addition, what kind of fool wears flannel pants with blood on the knees, probably from gathering information?"
"Uwah, really?! I need to clean it off! For casual wear, I only have one more pants other than this one..."
Kazu began to panic as he wiped it off. The beautiful yet scary girl turned her head around quietly.
With an ice-like expressionless face, it was difficult to say when Victorique had warmed up to him. Her eyes looked away as she was looking at his back.
Kazu smiled and said:
"Well, let's not talk about that first, okay? As you said, these are the handmade souvenirs from Little Italy, Victorique. This is strawberry-flavored, and orange-flavored, Mocha-flavored, vanilla-flavored, lemon-milk-flavored, yellow-green seems to be pistachio, and its a new flavour so they gave me a discount"
"Un, good work. Now hurry and bring them over to me"
"I say, Victorique, you should occasionally stand up and get it for yourself? Isn't getting it yourself an option?...okay, it seems like it wasn't. Okay okay, I know, Little Queen-sama?"
Kazuya complained but his face did not reflect his words. Instead, he felt happy to pile the cupcakes on the red diamond-shaped cat's foot table. Victorique turned to the chair, like a cat thief, scooped the cupcakes over to her small mouth and ate it.
Chewing...
Chewing...
Chew...
Still eating and paying attention.
Kazuya took a handkerchief from his chest pocket. While saying “You stained your face again?”, he wiped the chubby cheeks of Victorique who should already be an adult. Yet, Victorique furrowed her brows impatiently but did not expressed dislike. She only continued to eat.
The pile of cupcakes slowly dwindled.
“You should have head this before. New York, which is now the center of the New World, is divided into two worlds”
Stuffing the last cupcake into her mouth, Victorique said arrogantly.
Kazuya was boiling tea in the kitchen, pouring red and green tea into small bird patterned cups. He directly stood up to pass them to the small queen.
"Huh, what did you say?"
“I’m talking about the world at daytime and at nighttime. In other words, the economic circles of the politicians and entrepreneurs and the economic circles in charge of the mafia”
“Ah, oh......, the tea is ready”
“Good work. Wah, hot......”
Victorique blinked her eyes in shock while looking at the the teacup as if it’s her life’s enemy.
Then, she puffed out her chest saying:
“It is also the world of immigrants since ancient times, and the world of new immigrants who have arrived after the storm. The two world’s battlefield”
“Wait a minute, Victorique, even though you just started, this question......don’t tell me it’s going to be long......”
Victorique nodded her head seriously.
“You’re absolutely correct! Like the yellow river in China, the ganges river in India. History is like a river across the continent, it’s v-e-r-y l-o-n-g! It’s way l o n g e r than that little snake of an eastern New York river that I cross with you everyday”
Victorique proudly spread her fleshy hands on her chest, and opened her cherry-colored lips wide, looking at Kazuya seriously. Her emerald green eyes flashed as bright as the lake of Taikoo.
Kazuya couldn’t help but be dazed, and blush furiously as he looked away.
"That, but, I have to go back to the office soon. So, that..."
“Close your mouth and listen to me. You wouldn’t say you wouldn’t listen, right?"
"Oh, don't listen...? Your expression is terrible, what's wrong, Victorique?"
"I want to break ties with you!"
“Hey? Breaking ties? Are you a child? Victorique is the first arrogant- Ah, I know, I know, please just sit down... oh, your room only have your chair and a lounge chair, then I will stand in front of the bookcase tolisten to you. You are really... the nagging..."
Kazuya was really bothered.
The fire in the stove below the round window burned, and the book on the shelf looked like it was too boring, so he straightened himself to listen. Although the outside was very cold, the air in the room was very warm. Victorique’s cheeks also showed a rosy colour.
She began to talk incessantly.
"Hundreds of years ago, from the Old World, there was a disciplined religious group called the Puritans."
“Ok."
"They opened up undeveloped land, made streets, and went through battles such as order, politics, and the Civil War. They formed a powerful United States of America that could support the ‘new country of the pioneers’ and the basis of the country of freedom and hope."
“Ok……"
“But after that, before and after the second world storm, the new people coming from the Old World were blue-collar workers who were suffering from the problem of earning a living. They did not have strict rules to follow. Irish, Jewish, Asian And the Italians like Nick-kun ... Various people have come one after another, building a space in New York according to the culture of their country. Now the Brooklyn we live in is a Jewish neighbourhood”
Kazuya nodded his head.
"Yeah, the words of Little Italy are cheese and ketchup. The words of Brooklyn are celery and boiled chicken. If the culture is different, the taste of the food will be different. It is obviously still in New York."
“Oh, you shut up and listen!"
"Oh, oh..."
"Therefore, the serious Puritan children and grandchildren in the government and the economic and technological circles are now in a hurry. Because the new immigrants have actually drank alcohol. They also sang and danced! They fell in love one after another! That is to say, even if they are poor, they still follow the instinct to sing. Life is horrible. So they have to quickly enact the law so that it doesn’t spread..."
"Ah, prohi..."
"prohibition."
Kazuya was upset that his words were stolen by Victorique.
"Well, um... I know this..."
"But it seems that this law has caused a reaction. Because even if it is banned, people will still fall in love, and will eat what they want to eat.. Of course, the wine still has its supply. Indeed, after a day of labor. The desire to get a cup is hard to stop. Therefore, it is the mafia organization that has benefited from the prohibition of alcohol!”
"Uh-huh."
"Now in this city, the Irish gang is stealing whisky, the Jewish mafia is beer, then the biggest force of the Erlang gang is stealing whisky, the Jewish mafia is beer, and then the largest city of the Italian mafia is making and selling wine, and developing in the dark economic world. The corresponding methods of sanctioning crimes are also divided into the world's laws and sound laws, as well as the bloody regulations on the black streets at night... Revenge and killer companies exist at the same time. What the citizens want is neither the ancient order of the Puritans' high and justice, nor the iron of the dark world, but this ‘new thing’ So, come... and then... ah! "
The screaming Victorique suddenly fell into distress with her hand slamming down on her silvery hair.
In front of the bookcase, standing like a knight in armour, Kazuya couldn't help but be surprised.
"What happened, Victorique?"
"When its normal to talk to a boring man, it becomes boring... Ah, what a tragedy!!”
"How rude! It's obviously you who wanted to talk to me! You are always like this, showing a great look...then, I won’t bother you if I am boring, I am going to the office..."
Her green eyes suddenly widened.
"Kujou, do you have anything that could relieve boredom? Having said that, have you danced before?”
"Eh? What? Dance?"
"Yes, yes. I really thought about a good idea”
Victorique nodded her head in satisfaction. Kazuya shook his head furiously.
“Don't, how did you come up with this!... I say, when you insisted I danced, -青绿Kun saw and worse, told his Mother which is Ruri that it was strange. The style was reproduced. As a result, Ruri started laughing and rolling on the high-priced Persian carpet. He also pointed at me, laughing at me.
"Sing or dance, choose one yourself."
"Hey, give me one more choice... no?..."
"Well! Originally, if there are any interesting events, you can choose one more. In your own words, is it not worth it?... Come, sing or dance, choose which one!!"
“Eh, wait a minute. Wait a minute! Interesting events….ah, speaking of which, I went to Wall Street yesterday to learn more about the bank staff killings, are you interested…ahhhhh? Victorique? Don’t tell me you are interested?”
“Although I don’t carry any hopes, you may speak first”
“Oh okay”
Kazuya nodded, maintaining his posture.
Outside, the conversations of the people of Brooklyn people could be heard.
The winter’s sunlight was weak. You could hear the crackles from the fireplace. The books on the bookshelves were quietly accompanying the two.
Victorique opened her mesmerising green eyes and blew on her golden pipe.
“Listen well. There was a very serious bank employee on Wall Street. He accidentally mistyped the number and brought a lot of losses to the customer. When he was thinking of how to redeem himself, he committed suicide by raising a pistol in the office”
Victorique pointed the golden pipe at Kazuya’s face.
“Eh? Didn’t you say he was murdered earlier?”
There is still a follow-up to this incident... After the police investigation, the man was handed over the suicide note to the unrequited female payee before committing suicide. It was about 11:30. Then the time when the body was discovered was one hour after the end of the lunch break. In this case, I committed suicide during the lunch break. After that, the bank staff in the single room next door remembered that I heard a sound like a gunshot at around eleven o'clock. "
"Yes, chaos..."
"Yeah... and then according to this statement, the time of death is eleven o'clock. At that time, at 11:30, who gave the testament to the payee, it spread. The accused also remembered that the man still wore it. Glasses and hats may have been changed by others. After investigating the suicide note, it was typewriters and could not see the writing. Hey, this may be killing him, then..."
“I see”
“By the way, the dead bank clerk grew up in the multi-Golden family in Greenwich, the young master from the famous university, the man in the single room next door is the Bronx from the civilian area, someone who had braved the storm. With no parents, the people living around him were thieves and mixed-race soldiers. He was raised by the typist's sister, he became someone liked by the ladies. The young lady was the second generation of Jewish immigrants. And it seems that she also likes the man in the single room next door. The reason is that the old saying, people are very gentle. That is to say, this is a three way relationship."
Victorique looked at him in confusion.
"But how do you know this kind of gossip... you shouldn't know all the people?"
"No, no... you see, I am a trainee reporter now. This detailed information is being dug every day, so, just..."
Suddenly, Kazuya felt shy and became arrogant. After being urged, he reorganised his emotions:
“Then, everyone thought that he was more inclined to be killed than committing suicide. The boss was suspicious. It is said that last week, because of the results of the baseball game, their relationship was not good. The prosecution wants to identify the boss as a prisoner, the jury's opinion is different. Women argue that "there is always a suspicious opinion of the payee", the men's opinion is "we feel that the next room The man is a prisoner, and the argument is gradually biased towards a non-constructive direction. e named this incident as <Wall Street Rhapsody> and that is the information we collected yesterday”
“Waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait! What is this fantasies induced from the unknown?”
“Urm, according to the information, the men and jury felt that the man next door receive women’s welcome so they were jealous and felt he was not right”
“What, how did it became like this…but this incident is suicide without question”
“Oh, so its like that…Eh? Victorique, what did you say?”
Kazuya blinked his eyes in disbelief. Victorique snorted.
“Your ears are really hopeless. Are they stuffed with the fortune cookies from Chinatown? I said this was a suicide”
“Huh? Stuffed with fortune cookies? N-no, you said it was suicide? Even if it’s you…”
“The reason is…”
Victorique’s expression slowly changed.
Oh, don’t tell me this is laughing? If it’s so, he can’t tell the difference.
Kazuya tilted his head.
Victorique looked at the void boringly and made a small yawn. Her emerald green's eyes glowed with a cold light, and her silver hair curled, as if there was a secret magic. The golden pipe, which was exquisitely crafted, also shone. Finally, her smooth cherry blossom lips gently open:
"I just collected the chaotic fragments scattered around the world, and after I played it, I reconstituted it to make it boring. Now, my <Wellspring of Wisdom> tells me that the man is suicidal.
Kazuya didn’t say anything but looked a little dissatisfied.
Victorique continued to smoke her pipe silently, looking at his eyes from time to time, and then opened her mouth:
"Kujou, for example, if you want to hide something big..."
"Huh? I have nothing to hide?"
Kazuya inexplicably asked, Victorique said with a grudge:
"You actually bought twenty cakes but ate one on the way home!"
"I don't think so!"
"You listen, pumpkin!"
"Well, sorry...? I don't understand, why are you angry...? I didn’t do anything wrong but i have been apologising everyday....i really hope you can return these apologies someday...?"
Victorique wasn’t paying attention as she turned her golden pipe around and around.
“And you were dumb making chewing noises as you ate the cakes. If they weren’t blue rose flavoured it would be great but coincidentally that’s my favourite flavour”
“Ah, so its like that. Why didn’t you say so earlier, I’ll just buy more next time”
“I am absolutely not going to tell you something that important”
“Hey, what’s wrong! This is too weird”
“In conclusion, because you have something to hide, you avoided the colour blue. Your back is facing the blue curtains unconsciously, sitting in a different position from before. With the same reasoning, the man next door movements can be predicted like that”
“Man next door? Eh, in other words, that popular person is the culprit? The prosecutor’s instinct was correct?”
“You misunderstood!”
Victorique shook her head. Her silver hair swayed. The petals looked as if they were shining.
Victorique moved her body slowly.
“The man next door, at 11, he probably heard in his own words ‘a sorrowful sound’”
“To him?”
“Yes. That’s the sound of typing hard on a typewriter!”
Victorique had a dissatisfied look when he didn’t understand, her cherry blossom lips pouting.
"The dead man made a suicide note, right? It must have been more hard and squeaky than usual. Then thirty minutes later, the testament was handed over to the single-paying payee. The time to actually use the pistol is certain. It was during the lunch break that no one was between 12 o'clock and a little. So no one heard the gunshots."
"Wait a minute, what is the voice heard by the man next to the eleven o'clock?"
“Typing sounds. Although why did the man beside heard wrongly? ……Didn’t you say the answer already. He came from a poor family and was raised by his typist’s sister”
“Ah,urm……?”
“Listen well, it might be my imagination but I believe this is the correct answer”
Victorique puts her pipe down—
“Kujou, although kindness must be repaid but the person on the receiving end will mistake gratitude as debts. More so for someone with a gentle heart. On one side, he is greateful to his sister but on the other side, he felt like his sister was sacrificing her youth for him. He would feel apologetic, right? His gentleness towards women may be because of making up to his sister. To the him who does this, the sound of typing was a “sorrowful sound”. The fierce sound that he had never heard before in the single room, learning that it was the sound that he made when he committed suicide. The psychological aspect was naturally replaced by another "sad sound" - that is, the gunshot. So when he answered, he started with “Speaking of which, I think I heard a gunshot”
“Ah”
“When the two sounds were exchanged in his mind, he could have shot himself in a delusion”
“Yes”
“Humph, what a lame wound, right?”
Victorique said without expression. Her head lowered and using a low voice, she continued:
“Kujou, people will always unconsciously hide their passionate feelings to live but at times would unexpectedly express it out. Sometimes, they would have weird instincts and I feel this reason is it”
Victorique blew on her pipe while saying.
“To the man next door, typing was a sorrowful sound but also probably the sound of love by his sister”
Victorique sighed, lost in her own thoughts.
“…Yes. Then, I will be telling this to the editor or police. Victorique, you…Eh, what? Why are you looking at me with such a dangerous gaze? I, then I should be going…”
Victorique didn’t know when her cheeks swelled, her green eyes watering as she glared hard at Kazuya.
“…it was solved too quickly, and it became boring again. Kujou, you hopeless goose!”
“What goose?! I say….!”
Kazuya couldn’t help but be bothered until he smiled creepily.
“Right. Victorique, there is a way to cure your boredom”
“Eheheh?! What is it?!”
As if in a trance, Victorique moved her face closer to Kazuya.
“From now onwards go to the agency, your <Gray Wolf Detective Agency>?”
“Don’t want to…”
“Hey!”
Like a child, Victorique turned her head this way and that way, avoiding Kazuya. Even with the chair turning around, he couldn’t catch her.
“If you stay her for the whole day, spinning your chair, you will get dizzy and fun things would not just come over, isn’t that boring? Now go out. Listen to me, in the agency, wait for clients to come and take the fees for investigations …”
“But Kujou…”
“Now what?”
“I don’t want to go…”
“Eh, why?”
Kazuya asked worriedly, Victorique moved her face away and said in a barely audible voice:
“Because the New York we are coming to is now facing the biggest transition period. It is the temptation of race and history, the Puritan world during the day and the dark street at night. The two worlds collide with each other like a huge galaxy, so... don't want to be so conspicuous! Too dangerous! The war of mixed wars is constantly going on, and the president is still elected, the stock trading, the FBI is established, and the unknown illusory world named Hollywood is developing. Then, there is... mix! Mix! There is also a mix! The country of immigration, the city of sorrow, the present New York is very dangerous for us new immigrants... No, of course I am not afraid. But... theoretically... that... um...? "
Wrapped in a ruffled coat with dark red fur on the chest, Victorique fell into silence.
Suddenly she looked up and found that Kazuya’s carefree smile was close at hand, and it was a gentle smile. Victorique was so overwhelmed, her beautifully shaped eyebrows twitched.
At this moment, the sparkling rhinoceros-type silver bell on the round window surrounded by the bookcase made a sound of a bell, and Kazuya opened the window at the sound. “Ah, coming”
The administrator stretched out from the window on the first floor and held the rope attached to the bell. The red head of the bell rocked in the winter wind.
“There’s a call! It’s from your Sister in Greenwich!”
“Eh? Ruri? What’s wrong?”
“She said to hurry over and something big happened. She seems in a rush”
“Ah, Yes!”
“And, this month’s rent. Hurry!”
“Yes…”
Kazuya slowly closed the window.
Then he stretched out and said, "Let's go to Ruri's house, send Victorique to the detective agency, and go back to the news agency..." Kazuya thought that he had to work harder because Victorique could rely on him. Kazuya steadily closed his mouth.
Victorique slammed the pipe and looked at Kazuya's back.
“It turns out that people have to live for three buckets of rice."
While swallowing clouds, one side -
"It’s really a boring material issue that has piled up into a new life in the mountains. So, is this the chaos of the new world, you say...?"
A troublesome look, saying that it was really true, stood up slowly from the swivel chair.
It was a sunny winter day.
Old bicycles ran smoothly on the monochromatic Jewish neighbourhood.
Men wearing black and white national costumes had their hair in braids. The women's hair scattered all over their black coats. The nearby grannyes enjoyed a snow-white Jewish cream cheesecake on the terrace of the cafe. As for the bicycle that flashed by quickly, one will be scared at first, but now it had become a habit to enjoy watching the scenery.
The one on the bicycle was a young oriental man. He severely closed his lips while his dark hair was swaying in the wind.
Sitting on the back seat was someone that people can't help but make a sound, she was like a ceramic doll.
Silver hair dancing in the wind, like the Queen of Winter, which freezes around. The deep, emerald green eyes are as expressionless as ice. The soft coat and the red and black velvet dresses that are faintly visible from underneath are decorated with ruffles and lace that fluttered in the wind.
On the stall in front of the Brooklyn Bridge, they bought two red raisins and a winter raspberry ice cream ball.
Just as Victorique was expressionlessly licking her ice cream ball, Kazuya cycled on the bridge with his bicycle.
Cycle. Cycle.
... still Cycling on.
Still still cycling on.
The weather was pleasant and the sun was shining. After passing through Chinatown and Little Italy with different styles, they headed towards the central streets of Manhattan Island.
The high-end residential streets are decorated with reinforced concrete buildings, with toothed decorations and golden edges that are dazzling. Seeing this means they had arrived in the Greenwich neighbourhood. This would make people think that armoured cars are coming and going.
Like the car of the overhead kingdom - the emblem on the red and green flag that mimics the Italian flag, which is the symbol of the mafia in the night world of New York. It should probably belong to a very important person - Boss Jalbo's car. The box-type automatic car that follows the followers.
After turning a corner, a tall and handsome man was seen. Kazuya didn’t know why that man couldn’t stop dancing as if he was wearing red dancing shoes.
Black silk hat with a fine red cane and a sharp gaze, a mysterious dancer of unknown origin -
Kazuya can't help but be shocked and turn his head away:
"There are a lot of weird people in this city...right, Victorique?"
Passer-bys stared at Kazuya as he went by while Victorique who was wrapped in lace and wrinkled cloth and was talking to herself as she sat behind him.
The bicycle was parked in a corner just outside a high class residential area of Greenwich.
“But, Ruri said it was urgent” Kazuya seriously warned Victorique. Yet, when the girl heard that, she made a noise with her nose and gave off the impression that she already knew and need not be reminded.
Then, the two of them went up a beautifully constructed staircase with stone lions. The stylish door had handles shaped like lions and was made with brass.
Victorique desperately went up to the door on her high heels, straightened her back and knocked on it. Beside her, Kazuya also composed himself.
Knock, knock, knock. After a few times, a tall woman like a giant with wide shoulders appeared. With honey-coloured fine eyes, large, pointed nose and thick lips, as well as brown hair. Despite appearance being like that of an ancient goddess who appeared in mythology, she wore an ordinary, modern black dress and apron.
“Good morning, Miss Rebecca”
Kazuya placed a hand on his hat as a greeting and the other lady also bowed repeatedly.
She is the daughter of a relative’s family that adopted Nicholas Sacc after his parents died. As a result of this connection, she was hired as a housemaid by the Mushanokoji’s.
From the room came the voice of - Mushanokoji Ruri.
“Kazuya? You finally brought Victorique-san over! The new clothes are ready, quickly come and try them on!”
“Urm, this is the emergency you were talking about?”
Kazuya blinked his eyes and was speechless after Victorique spoke thusly.
Ruri continued speaking on the side while almost tripping in the long hallway. In the middle of the hall, the sunlight shone inside brightly.
“Because 绿青 (TL note’s : Google translate says he’s call Rokusho but I’m not sure) kept nagging that he wants to see Victorique-san. It seems he wants to see her wearing the new clothes no matter what. Right, Rokusho? Eh, what’s wrong, shy? Eh? Why are you avoiding eye contact? How strange!”
In front of the eyes of the international police agency’s Takeshi Wife and young child.
Ruri tied up her black hair with a ribbon that matched with her outfit’s blue and purple feathers. She seemed to be doing needlework, holding the thread in her right hand and coming out with a scissors in her left hand.
Rokusho, who is still a toddler, has a flannel ribbon decoration on his smooth black hair, and a blue kimono with a beaded belt. Although young, he has a slender beauty reminiscent of Ichimatsu dolls. At first glance, he looks like a smaller version of Ruri but his black eyes hid a sort of radiance similar to that of his Uncle Kazuya when he was young.
Kazuya energetically said-
“Oh, Kid! You look great today!”
He stretched out his hand to pat the boy’s head. However, Rokusho hid behind his Mother as if afraid of something. Kazuya’s hand was left there mid air.
“A-ah ? Rokusho-Kun?”
“Again? Kazuya...”
Ruri seemed as if she was used to this already.
Rokusho’s expression screamed of “strange”. To the one being hated, Kazuya, when he looked at Victorique with her red dress and silver hair it was clearly different.
Ruri said on the side “This is my pride. Victorique-san, quick try it on” Rokusho followed quickly and Kazuya had no choice but to also follow quietly.
In the living room, tried on the white and red dress
In the open living room, Victorique walked out slowly, wearing a modern red dress with red and white layers of lace, a modern dress decorated with lacquer, a handbag matching the long dress, and a peacock feather-decorated hat. Ruri makes temporary changes in various places to adjust the size. Rokusho leaned out of her body from the back of the sofa, staring blankly while chewing fried chicken.
Ruri laughed.
“Rokusho still likes Victorique best. I thought he became mature but he is still cute that way. Oh, are you shy? You funny child”
When he saw all the adults looking at him, he hid again shyly. Occasionally, his hands came out to take another fried chicken. Victorique took another puff of smoke and observed at the same time her surroundings.
At this time, Rebecca entered the room.
“A call for Kazuya-san. It’s from a Nick”
After finishing, she left.
Kazuya stood up to take the call. Nick said
“Hey, the editor is asking for you to hurry over”
“Ah, oh!”
“ says he has a sudden material, letting us be in charge, anyway hurry over”
And then he hung up. Kazuya nodded at the phone end.
The try outs in the living room were also done. Kazuya scolded Victorique who took her time to stand up and leave Ruri’s house.
Then the two left Greenwich and headed for the eastern business district, the Eastern District.
Different from the nobleness and stability of high-end residential areas, the buildings and stores in front of it are slightly cluttered. Because it's noon, the smell of various foods is mixed.
New York is the crucible of race and culture. Next to the hurried businessmen, young people play basketball that has recently started to be popular. Tall women with light black skin are wearing strange national costumes. Various convertibles carry lively girls running on the streets. The man selling dim sum sometimes barge across them.
In the business district-opposite the church in the eastern district, the green corner-
<<Miracle Garden>>
The iron bulletin board wrote, this place is like a park, but also somebody ‘s courtyard.
Kazuya stepped on the bicycle to enter it, and used to walk between the paths like a labyrinth. The Victorique sitting behind didn't care about it, just leaned on him softly, her big emerald eyes looked at the scenery like a dream.
Turn around, turn around, turn around.
Turn around turn around ...
It's harder to walk inside than expected. The bicycle was moving deep into the incredible little forest.
Finally, it stopped.
In front of Kazuya is a wonderful building shaped like a drum.
It looks three stories high, but it's built like four stories. Despite the green and blue tiles, it was peeling everywhere to see the inner layer. It looks like a chapel in the Middle East. The top floor is a wonderful decoration like a fountain, and now it looks like a cool water brush gushing out.
It is also known as the "Monster Apartment" in the East District where there are so many strange buildings. This building is so unpleasant.
——Generally known as "Merry-go-round”
It is old and inconvenient, and even before the Second World War, it had become a breeding ground for all kinds of horror talks. Therefore, despite its good location, it can be used for rent and the rent is very cheap.
After stopping the bicycle for a minute, Victorique followed with small steps and walked into the building.
The inside of the building is designed as a roof, and the sun shines into the house from the fountain-shaped decoration room. The huge spiral staircase in the center of the house shows a smooth slope
It's like invading the beautiful shell inside ...
The growth of plants in southern countries is gratifying. There are only large black birds with red beaks, brown penguins, giant tortoises, owls that are small enough to fit on their palms, and many other animals that have never been seen before.
<Merry-go-round> Although it is a rented office building rented by area, it is still a pet shop operated by a mysterious owner. Therefore, the magical creatures smuggled from the old continent, Africa, Asia and other places will live leisurely in human shops.
With extreme care, Victorique inadvertently avoided the feces of large and small animals on the ground, walked towards the spiral staircase covered with green tiles, and slowly walked up.
Turn around.
The icy stairs give a feeling of swimming in a sea palace.
Turn around, turn around ...
Keep going up.
Looking around, in the depths ... Occupying a corner of the table, young entrepreneurs working with papers, tanned leather and scissors and needlework, Toyo Shoemakers scattered everywhere, half-naked old men meditating for some reaso and so on. In this space, residents are immersed in various unknown matters. In the meantime, the lush southern country trees and the birds hiding in them were shaking vigorously.
Finally, they reached the top third floor.
After climbing the spiral staircase, it was a more incredible space.
The ceiling got closer, and the sunlight leaking between the branches came in, creating a comfortable space. From the triangular window, you can see the Miracle Garden and the opposite street, and from the ceiling is a pink chair-shaped swing designed by Victorique. Snacks such as a cat's foot-shaped chocolate bar and animal-shaped lollipops are piled like a hill. On the corner are three bookcases and a Toyo-style box carved with a flower pattern. The red and purple dried petals scattered on the ground exude a sweet fragrance.
Here, the flow of time seems to be changed, as if wandering between the gaps of history--
Kazuya let his beloved wife gently sit on a chair-shaped swing with a pink cloth surface and decorated with walnut shell buttons, just like an important treasure ...
After boiling the water, he brewed the tea and started to pack. Gather the books scattered on the ground in one place, dig out the beautiful white telephone decorated with golden pattern from the snack mountain on the table, re-plug the phone cord that was pulled out, and on the swing Victorique had a chocolate bar in her little mouth, then hurries to say,
"I'll say it first, Victorique, don't pretend you're not here."
“Ok--"
"What, uh-ah, you are really ... ah, yes, important things are forgotten."
Kazuya quickly hurried back, knocked down the mountain of books that was finally sorted out, and found the rectangular iron signboard from the inside.
Carefully remove the dust, and stepping on the box to hang the sign on the wall.
The sign says--
<Here is the Gray Wolf Detective Agency. There are no mysteries that cannot be solved here! >
"Victorique, I'm leaving? Work hard. Don't you go in and say that there are no unsolvable mysteries on the yellow pages in New York? Gamble on the last descendants of the ancient Cylons, philosophers in fur, legend In the name of the gray wolf, if there is a difficult client visiting, you must try your best to solve the mystery. Then, do you really know, Victorique? Then, I should go ... the editor is going to get angry again ... "
"Um --- um --- um-."
Kazuya turned around enthusiastically, carefully inspecting everything like an old grandfather, whispered something like a sermon, and said “Oh right" put the <TIME> magazine bought on the stand. On the box, reluctantly, one step at a time, three steps at two turns, finally came down the spiral staircase. Victorique yelled on a chair-shaped swing and said, "... noisy, dead, begging, tired ..." but looked a little lonely in the direction of his leaving.
After watching that for a while, Victorique finally bowed her head. But when she looked up, she still looked in the direction of the stairs unconsciously. Slowly, human expressions were lost a little bit, leaving only a little unpleasantness ... Finally ... Victorique like losing her body temperature , like a beautiful ceramic doll carefully crafted by a legendary doll master In general, the whole body became as cold as porcelain, almost completely still.
The bird who flew nearly close to the ceiling yelled, and flew to Victorique. Seeing her motionless, it calmed down and landed in front of her shoes. Even so, Victorique did not move.
She don't know how long it took but the bird flew up again, and Victorique finally started to move. Then "huh ~" yawned, which didn't match his amazing beauty.
Even though she was still in a bad mood, she picked up the <TIME> magazine on the box and flipped it, and then suddenly--
“!!”
She silently put the book back on the box as if it were an ominous object.
After adjusting her emotions, Victorique took another book and quickly read the entire book at an amazing speed.
The sun shone in through the ceiling, shining on her long silver hair. The birds of the southern country flew around the painting with their beautiful blue wings.
From this point of view, there is a small office in the east side of the south side of Manhattan Island. It looks like the private investigator Victorique , and the book that was originally hidden in the secret college deep in the small mountains of Europe-Sobel. The top floor of the museum is surrounded by deep loneliness, because the young little wolf who turned the pages of the book unfortunately fortunately or unfortunately overlapped.
The book was pushed.
The radio in a corner.
The shark ask tray had the golden lizard pipe.
The books, one by one, dropped as it was read.
Don’t know if it’s an adult or a child, a magical gray wolf, a rare creature like a cargo, exotic trees and flowers, and a wonderful urban dweller who is buried in the monster apartment in their own affairs.
Above them, time flows slowly ...
Suddenly……
-Victorique jumped up like a cat with a trampled tail.
The bell rang on the small table—the bell—was loud.
The ringtone cut through the silence, and time began to flow normally.
Victorique -back on earth, stared at the phone like it was her natural enemy.
As if being suppressed by her stare, the telephone stopped ringing. Victorica nodded contentedly, feeling good.
When she was preparing to start reading again--
The telephone rang again.
Riiiiing!
“Ok……?!"
Victorique continued to stare, like a squirrel, and the phone rang annoyingly again. After a pause, ...
——Ring——! !! ring——! !!
“Ok!!"
It hit and cut off again. call.
Called again ...
"Hmm-!!! Hmm-!!!"
Victorique can't stand it anymore.
"Really, Kujou, it was so easy for me to unplug the phone line and install it again ... Besides, that guy, what can I say is right ... and ah, no help at all”
While complaining in an old woman's hoarse voice, she lowered the book and stood up.
She crouched on the ground looking for a telephone line like a black cat. Large ruffled balls made of black and crimson moved on the floor. After finally finding it, grit your teeth hard—
“Hey!"
——The line had been unplugged.
"Hmm, how’s that?"
Victorique smiled with pride, and the sunlight between the treetops fell gently on her rose-colored cheek.
Victorique returned to the reclining chair and continued to immerse herself in the books. Suddenly, she felt something, and she froze. She approached the triangular window and began to observe the situation outside.
The huge black Cadillac, which would be regarded as an armored vehicle, came down the road. It was an ordinary, boxy car, but it was brewing an unnatural atmosphere. The car slowly drove into the green space, traveled back and forth in the trail, and gradually approached.
Victorique felt unhappy for no reason.
The car stopped in front of the <Merry-go-round> in the Miracle Garden.
The assistant seat slowly opened, and the man in the black suit got out of the car and respectfully opened the door in the back seat.
"Hmm?" Vidolica made a questioning voice.
From the back seat is ...
A handsome male wearing a high-quality suit, jacket and hat, which is also top-quality, and a red woolen scarf. Although he is not tall, he is very strong in terms of shoulder width and waist.
She saw the man leaning on the car and took out a cigarette and set it on fire.
Victorique stared earnestly at the ground where the second person was standing, as if there was an illusion invisible to the naked eye ...
The man raised his chin and made people go forward, and the other black suits started to act. Look at what's heavy in the left inner pocket of the suit ... she was afraid it's a gun, put it inside, and as they move, it swings unluckily.
Victorique looked up at the roof ...
"Hoo ..."
Emerald green eyes flickered expressionlessly like inanimate objects.
"Although I don't know what the situation is, it's really a troublesome guy. I hope it's not the client of our detective agency. But ..."
Glittering silver hair swirls on the ground, flowing between dried petals of various colors. The books on the bookshelves seemed restless.
"... where is the detective, little operator?"
Suddenly questioned, Victorique opened her eyes and raised her head.
It was as if no client had come in, and lying on a recliner casually flipping through the books.
Dark green eyes are like lakes that have existed since the Archean period. Opening them inadvertently will sparkle. Because it is too beautiful, anyone will fall for it.
Standing there was the man in black sent by the boss just now, and it looked like he had no other characteristics than Italian. Looks good.
"<Gray Wolf Detective Agency> Is this right? ... Ah, there is a sign. It's really here, I didn't expect it to be such a strange place."
“...”
"There’s a rumour spreading recently, “Who is the smartest.. to entrust tasks to...” Hey, can you call on Mr. Detective Gray Wolf?"
"Oh? You stink?"
The operator whispered in a hoarse, low voice like an old woman. She blew her pipe and looked out the window—the unidentified man leaning on the armored car-like Cadillac also looked up.
The man in black couldn't help shaking his shoulders when he saw the situation.
"There is a river of blood that cannot be seen by the naked eye, flowing from your feet. It is made of a lot of blood of innocent people. The smell has spread in the" Merry-go-round "..."
"so rude, who are you?"
The good mood had disappeared, and the man in black lowered his voice. Victorique just answered indifferently:
"I'm just answering the phone, I'm sorry the detective is not here."
The man was silently unhappy.
That's been a long time. Suddenly, the man looked out at the man who should be the boss. He seemed to nod his head in silence, and nodded here to let the outside see.
The man took out the documents from the bag and held them up in front of Victorique.
"Did you mean that you wouldn't let us see the detective, Miss Operator?"
“Un."
"It is said that the detective office was apparently not long open, but the detective was a lazy man who was so reckless as to accept" special events. "
“may be."
"But, we-we don't like being rejected. Then, we don't like it-we won't let it go."
"..."
"That's right, I have a good idea."
The man suddenly clapped his hands.
"Miss operator, listen to us on behalf of the Gray Wolf, and tell us later. How about it?"
Victorique kept quiet.
The man continues without hesitation,
"This is what happened this month. Once a week, on Saturday night, it should be said that Sunday morning, the young people in the Italian mafia will be killed. It has been three consecutive weeks since last week.
Victorique frowned in doubt, slowly looking up at the other person.
"You, ... just said three murders, right?"
The green eyes flashed strangely, and it seemed that she finally became interested in the words of the other party.
"... But at least one thousand gangsters are killed in a year in this city, and journalists are busy investigating gangster killings every day. Despite this, you say there are only three gangsters. Who, What's the difference?"
The man smiled lowly.
"Of course, because there is no motive at all.”
"Motive?"
The man curled up his thick lips and laughed even wider.
"Listen, Miss Operator? Most people may not know, for muderers there must be a reason for their actions. Revenge and the like. This so-called revenge, ah, may be just a boring quarrel in the bar. But only these three had no reason. Regardless of whether it is a man in a hostile organization or a guy who has been robbed of a woman, the killer company that has received the money has vowed that it has never accepted such a commission. And, more recently, the body will be released with flowers or with strange clothing. Generally speaking, it takes a lot of effort before you escape, but these three things are not the same. No matter which one is an ordinary corpse. "
The man had a blank expression and then he looked down at Victorique.
"That is to say, our organization used this commission instead of saying hello to the Gray Wolf Detective Agency. Understand, Miss Operator?"
Victorique frowned:
"Instead of saying hello? What's going on in our organization? Who are you commissioning as a representative?"
The man in black suddenly lost his expression, and that face became even more featureless.
"My name ... well, it's John Smith, that's it. Just the shadow of someone ..."
With that said, he looked out the window. Victorique looked at the face, apparently calling him trouble, and said dully:
"... The gray wolf is a willful and lazy detective. The trust of an unidentified client like this will definitely be rejected."
"That's right."
The man in black smiled lowly.
Then he silently took out a small thing from his chest pocket ... Putting it down aloud made people startled--
Wham!
It was a bullet.
A silver banana pattern is engraved on the silver side.
"!"
Victorique could not help but hold her breath.
"The bullet of a banana machine gun ... wait a minute ... you ..."
But the man in black just walked down the spiral staircase and disappeared. Victorique stood up, trampling her black enamel high heels so hard they made a noise, and she hurried to catch up and went down the spiral staircase. The red and black lotus leaves are covered with fantastic silver hair.
When Victorique stepped out of the "Merry-go-round", the man in black had already sat on the assistant's seat, the engine made a loud noise, and the car drove forward. She stayed in the same place and looked down. Suddenly, the car stopped, as if receiving an order, quickly backed out, stopped in front of Victorique, and slowly opened the window.
The window of the car only opened a dozen centimeters, and only the eyes of the gentleman sitting inside could be seen. The skin around the eyes is red and black like drunkenness, with scabs everywhere. Thick and thick eyebrows are mixed with white parts.
Eyes reminiscent of the muzzle looked at Victorique’s face and her tiny body.
Victorique opened her mouth mid way, maintaining a ceramic doll and watch with an expressionless face at the man.
The man exhaled heavily.
“We meet again”
His voice was rough but held power in them. Like a line that sticks.
“The Gray Wolf of legends……a philosopher covered in fur……yet……”
“?”
“It should only belong to me……”
“What……?”
Victorique watched and looked up at the man. A trace of disgust and uneasiness flashed in her ice-like expression.
At this time, the rear seat window has been closed and the engine of the car makes a low noise again. There was a violent noise, and the large black Cadillac like armored car started and drove away in a rough but slow manner.
The uneasy cries of animals came out of the <Merry-go-round>, and the birds fluttered.
The sound broke the silence, and the air began to stir.
Victoria was standing there alone. Her silver hair shining in the sunlight.
(We meet again.)
(It should only belong to me……)
(Gray wolf……!)
The thick, unpleasant breath left by the man was deposited in the silence.
Victorique ’s silver hair shook in the winter breeze, the trees that should be green looked chilling like they were frozen like the atmosphere.
Victorique's small hand clenched onto a golden lizard-shaped pipe. She looked up to the gloomy sky in winter:
"Look, kujou ..."
—— She whispered in an old woman's hoarse voice.
"If you just go out for work, you will run into troublesome clients!"
