She pursed her lips slightly at the woman’s ambiguous reply. “What kind of group would that be?” Delphine asked curiously. A moment later, she answered herself. “–Ah. You’re students, aren’t you? Oui, that would make sense.” They were young, away from home, and looking to get drunk and raise Hell. That definitely resembled university students. “Why France? Why not Rome? Or London?” Delphine leaned on her elbow, waiting for the other’s response.
Amelia nodded slowly at the woman’s realization--tour groups were easy to spot, but student tour groups? Well, let’s just say they didn’t need to be on the verge of a drunken disorderly violation for the locals to identify them in this bar. “We’re all in a French class.” She explained--almost apologetic--as she smiled at Delphine. “Our prof just has a thing for Paris...and apparently, leaving us unattended.”
into the lair | elisabeth & amelia
Elisabeth had been completely oblivious to her classmate trying to get to her, dodging the crowd just looking for a tunnel. When Amelia appeared at her side, with the man they’d been listening to glaring angrily in their direction, her eyes widened. “Now would be good.” She turned into the nearest tunnel, it turned out to be one of the less crowded ones. Who knew why some tunnels were flocked to and others abandoned, but she was happy to be away from most people.
It wasn’t much cooler, but if they walked a little further maybe the music would stop shaking the ground beneath her feet. Didn’t that bother anyone else? “Thanks for coming with me, you didn’t have to leave the party.” She was relieved that Amelia had followed her, the prospect of walking through this place alone hadn’t been the most appealing choice. Out of all the people who’d come on the trip, Amelia was definitely one of the more capable ones in this situation. “I just needed a break for a little while. Want to explore?”
Amelia nodded fervently as she shot one last worried glance over her shoulder before following closely behind Elisabeth into the tunnel. Heaving a sigh of relief, Amelia smiled gratefully at Elisabeth before looking around the tunnel. If there were a word for creepy and beautiful, the catacombs would be its definition. Bones lining the walls, dirt covering the ground and the slightly darker and colder setting made Amelia wonder things that made her glad she wasn’t alone. How much of the dirt is actually dust from these bones? If we got lost right now, how long would it take for someone to find us?
Though the tunnel itself wasn’t that cold, Amelia rubbed one of her arms as she felt goosebumps prickle. This eeriness wasn’t unusual to Amelia: quite the opposite, actually. Ames played enough horror video games to endure the strangest of settings, but this atmosphere left her with a sense of foreboding. When Elisabeth spoke again, Amelia raised her head in surprise--she’d been so lost in thought that she forgot Elisabeth was so close.
“Of course I did!” Amelia responded, her broad smile returning as she faced her friend, and snapped out of her apprehension. “Haven’t you seen Lilo and Stitch? Anyone who helps me get away from a rude asshole is family to me and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” She joked as she tried to link arms with Eli and continue walking, this time with determination rather than fear. “Are you kidding me? We’re standing in the middle of one Paris’s biggest tourist attraction with no supervision and no more off-limit sections. The universe is practically begging us to explore. The real question is: which way?” She turned to her friend with a raised eyebrow and a wide grin as they stood in front of a diverging path.
“I didn’t?” Of course she hadn’t told anyone why she was here. No one had asked yet. “I just wanted a vacation. Paris is always portrayed as so romantic, I thought I’d see if it was real. It’s a great chance to get out of the United States for a little while, just take a break.” She exhaled slowly, “Take a break from everything. What about you? Besides the sketching and crepes?”
“And what do you think? Did it live up to your expectations?” Amelia asked, her smile fading slightly when Elisabeth mentioned taking a break from everything. She wanted to ask if Eli was okay, but the girl was fast to change the subject. “Well, one of my profs thought I needed more culture for an assignment so this whole trip’s a little bit of a “fuck you”--not that I’d ever tell him that.” Amelia laughed lightly at her own story before shaking her head and trying to revert the subject. “It has been fun though...getting away from everything. I’m kind of looking forward to going back though. What about you?”
“Why do you need someone to hold you back? Sounds like he has it coming.”
“Can I take that as you want to join in?”
Greg noticed the woman’s sudden shift in demeanor as she gave him a once over. He instinctively stood a little straighter, one hand coming up to rub at the back of his neck. He’d never really mastered the art of flirting, though that had never scared him away from trying anyway. “I was actually trying to find a couple people I know. I’m kind of worried about them. But honestly, a drink sounds really good right now. And a distraction.”
Amelia smiled as the stranger rubbed his neck. It wasn’t the first time her boldness had intimidated someone, but something about his sudden shyness was endearing. When Greg went on to mention being worried about people, Amy’s eyebrows pulled up in concern. “You don’t think they’re in any trouble, do you? What are their names? Maybe I know them.”
As Greg went on talking, Amelia’s lips pulled into a smile as she nodded. “Maybe something strong would be good?” She asked sympathetically as she tried to grab both of his hands to guide him towards the bar. “So there aren’t any other mishaps along the way.” She added over her shoulder as she started walking. “By the way, honey...” She said, turning around to deliver her next line with a coy smile and a wink. “I’m more of a main event than a distraction.”
“Why would I hold you back? That guy thinks it’s okay to touch people without their consent, so I think it’s okay to let you handle it how you see fit.”
“Fucking right. I knew there was a reason we got along so well. Thanks, Coop. I’m going to keep an eye on that fucker and the second he leaves, I’m going to report his drunk, creepy ass. Then, I’m going to buy us some drunk food to celebrate at the hostel tonight. Sound good?”

She was an animation major of course Liliana was going to sing Poor Unfortunate Souls, because it was her second favorite villian song. Nazi hyenas kind of won out over everything else. Lily couldn’t help but notice the sway to Amelia’s hips (who wouldn’t to be honest?), her jaw almost dropped at Amelia’s next words. “Oh is that an offer?” The brunette asked, praying that she wasn’t hearing things.
Amelia blinked a few times in surprise at Lil’s response. Was she serious? Amelia wasn’t religious, but judging by Liliana’s appearance, goddesses were real and the hottest one was in front of her right now. Don’t mess this up, Ames, don’t you dare mess this up. Amelia laughed lightly as she leaned toward Liliana. “Well, that depends.” Glancing at the girl’s lips, Amelia ran her tongue over her own teeth before looking back into her crush’s eyes. “What do we plan on doing?”

“That uh, that actually might have been me. I was trying to keep my hands down as I walked, but my ratio is kind of… different from other people’s. If I apologize will you please not hit me?”
Amelia shook her head and laughed. “Yeah...sorry, man, I get a little defensive at these things. With everyone so close together, people tend to get a little ballsier, you know what I mean?” She took a step back, looking at the stranger up and down. “I see what you mean by ratio though. Why not try raising your arms instead? If there’s any place you can get away with that, it’s at a rave, right? It might be safer to get away from the crowd though...maybe for a drink, Mr. Ratio?”
“Some guy just slapped my ass and I swear, if someone doesn’t hold me back, the only thing he’ll be slapping is his face on the ground.”
“France? It’s uh, been nice so far.” She looked down at the full cup of beer that was still in front of her. “I saw the Mona Lisa, she looked just as happy in real life.” Deciding not to take a sip, she just turned back to her classmate. “But, yeah. It’s been nice.” She smiled to herself. “What do you think of it so far?”
Amelia nodded and let out a soft laugh through her nostrils at Elisabeth’s remark about the Mona Lisa--not sure if the girl was joking, but enjoying the story anyway. “Well, that’s good to hear.” She answered with a warm smile. “You know, I like it. The jet lag took some getting used to and I sure could go for fewer crêpe shops, but other than that, it’s really pretty. I’ve been getting in some new sketches too, which is always nice.” She replied before looking at her classmate with newfound curiosity. “You know, I don’t think you ever told me why you decided to come to France in the first place.”
