The day itself had proved to be a rather warm one. Warm enough that Link had decided that he wanted to spend some time down at the lake. There was, at least to him, nothing out of the ordinary. He sat at the edge, dipping his feet into the cooling water, occasionally causing a disturbance to the water, and giggling in something of a childish glee.
For whatever reason, he happened to look up towards Dark. As he did so, he froze. Hadn’t he been alone literally minutes ago? Indeed, was his eyes playing tricks on him? Regardless of that, he felt the need to go and investigate. Something appeared wrong with them, based entirely on how they were seated. Carefully getting up, he padded over to where Dark was sat, completely unaware at that moment of whom they were approaching.
“Excuse me, are you alright?” He asked, once he was close enough. He was wary enough, however, to stop short of them. Hindsight told him that that would give him enough time to react should they decide that they were going to do something malevolent.
All the shade did, was looking at his own reflection. He hated how he looked like. The others of his kin looked different from him as well. They looked stronger and healthier than he did. But then again, they weren’t failures like Dark was. They were strong and could wield a sword. The weaker entity couldn’t. He couldn’t even hurt a fly even if he wanted to.
It was because he was so weak he didn’t have a sword or shield of his own. Only a dull dagger he hadn’t even used yet.
He finally looked away, at the grass underneath his feet. The shade knew this was Ganondorf’s way to get rid of him. Because the King of Evil didn’t want to bother himself dealing with something that was but a mere insect in his eyes. It made Dark’s chest hurt.
He was so absorbed in his own thoughts, he failed to hear someone approaching him. It was only when he heard a voice, his body froze in place. Carefully, he turned his head towards the direction the voice came from. When realising it was the Hero himself talking to him, panic befell the shade.
Scarlet eyes grew wide in fear, he tried standing up, but his feet gave away under him fast and he fell back down the ground, staring at the Hero with terrified eyes.
